Eight princesses from Abu Dhabi’s ruling family, Al-Nahyan have each been issued 15-months of suspended sentence and fined €165,000 yesterday after a Belgian court found them guilty of trafficking and abuse of their servants.

The case dates back to 2008, when Princess Shekiha Hamda Al-nahyan and her seven daughters rented an entire floor of Conrad Hotel in Brussels for months and brought more than twenty servants along with them, an action which according to them, is part of their tradition and entitlement as royalty.

Prosecutors say that the workers were treated like slaves and forced to attend to the princesses’ every desires 24/7 and were not given proper beds to sleep on.

The princesses had also allegedly confiscated their passports and denied them pay. One servant fled captivity and reported the case to the authorities who raided the hotel and freed the rest of the servants.

Sheikha Hamda and her seven daughters, including their Indian butler failed to attend the trial and denied all the charges.

First, i will use this opportunity to say well done for a platform like this where people can share their life experience and ordeal without anyone knowing who they are.

My heart goes out to all especially the rape victims, yes, i read every one of the stories

I was only interested when a friend of mine managed to convince me that the pictures are not the real people but only used to illustrate the story and also when I sent a message on facebook to ask if it’s true, I liked the way you people response.

I know my story is what some women have experienced and some are still going through it. I am sharing this story to please get people to give me their opinion, if I am wrong or right, please tell me.

I left my marriage about four years ago when it became unbearable. I did everything within my power not to leave, initially my strength was in my husband who I thought was on my side until i knew better.

Last week here memories came flooding back to when my ex sister in-law sent me a friends request, I came on face book and i se this friends request waiting there for me to cofirm, I saw the name but had to be double sure I was not in a dream, went to view the page, low and behold it was indeed the right person.

I went into a panic mood, started palpitating like I was going to pass out, then I got red with anger, how dare she, this same girl that took me back to hell together with my mother in-law.

I remember every single day of her stay and my mother in-law in my house then, those two dealt with me, I will leave home in the morning for work, by the time I get home, the kitchen sink will be piled with dishes from the all sorts.

I use to wonder what they were always doing everyday making such mess, anyways that was the daily punishment from them to me, for me to wash dirty dishes.

I did not find this much of an issue, but the attitude that get to me, the right in my face talk as I was yet to have a child, my sister in law will walk up to me and tell me to hurry up as she wants to use the kitchen and will remind me to make sure it’s clean enough.

This was not a one off, like daily bases, it was all a very calculated attempt to get rid of me. My mother in-law will always remind me how am just temporary, that the son will soon get a wife, saying girlfriends move out when real wives move in.

A lot went on , but as an African woman I felt it was my cross to make my marriage walk, all that matters was my husband was on my side, though he has never openly spoken to the mum or sister about it, he only ever encourage me to ignore them and focus on us.

Then my husband started having an affair, they even knew before me, God, I went through hell, though they did not tell me to my face, they will always taunt me, especially my sister in-law, saying “shine your eyes Aunty me, your eyes go soon clear” and then walks away.

I suspected but was too scared it might be true, so I pretended about it and hoped it was a lie.

My world came crashing on the day my mother in-law was to leave our place for hers, she just walked right into our bedroom as was the norm, she never knocks neither say hello.

She walked right in as always, ignored my greetings as always, looks straight at the Son and said ” I hope the next time I return Yetunde (not real name) will be here, she needs all the care and support from you and us” and she just walked away, like that.

I was confused, could not really understand what she meant, i turned to my husband for with that look of please, ‘tell me what she’s on about’ but none was forthcoming.

I stormed out, for once in my life, I spoke to my mother in-law with a raised voice, demanding to know what that was all about, my sister in-law who was living with us came out, looked at me in this pity way, I will never forget what she said that day

‘ i told you to shine your eye, aunty wife, mama is only advising brother to take care of his pregnant girlfriend, soon to be wife’ and she hissed and walk away.

That was the beginning of my nightmare, my husband would not confirm or deny anything rather he stopped talking to me, stopped eating food prepared by me. I became a resident of ‘Mountain on fire church’

Long story short, I had to leave, I was left with no choice when I started seeing pictures of the pregnant lady on my timeline as we have my sister in-law as common friends.

The day I told myself, this was no marriage anymore, was the day I got to know through facebook that my husband has bought another car, the lady took a picture with the car and shared it with my sister in-law.

Late last year, I was told by a friend that the women has left my ex but not before dealing with them all, she is yet to tell me the full details, I will share it here once i get to know.

Now this sister in law that de-friended me even before I left the brother is now sending me a friend request, I don’t understand, for what I ask myself.

I have not even narrated what I went through, my concern why am sharing this today, is why does she want to be my friend? A girl that once spat at me, a girl that calls me a nobody and a prostitute, saying their family juju will soon kill me if I don’t confess.

The question is, why does she want to be my friend now? The brother, my ex relocated abroad I heard.

i have just read the story of the young lady who was set up to be raped by a ‘senior friend’ she had so much respect for. The truth is that most young girls have being betrayed this way. To the young lady believe me you are not alone.

This is my story;

When I got admitted into the university, I was very naive in the ways of the world, I was very excited to be on my own for the first time without my parents watching every of my move.

I went about settling into my new environment and studies, I was like a fish out of the water. There was lot of parties going on within the campus for freshers, I was invited to one of this party by my room mate, I was excited.

We went together, I stayed by her side most times, at a point she encouraged me to dance with a particular guy who I did not know then was her boyfriend, I obeyed her, she was in 300Level studying english, I was just beginning, I still had that mentality of the secondary school girl and school mother thing.

I danced okay with the guy, i got a lot excited, first night party, just could not believe life could be this free of parental rules.

We left the party together, I went in, leaving both of them outside the entrance of our hostel, still clueless if they were dating, later events made me to think back.

A week later, I was making my way to the local cafeteria to eat, i saw him, the guy i danced with, i said hello and passed, on my way back i saw him standing outside the cafeteria, as I was passing he called me, i went to him, he asked me some basic question, I answered him, how I was settling and then to tell Gloria to see him later. I left.

i can not remember the exact day I saw him again but all I remember and I will forever remember was him asking me, after following me out of the lecture hall, how and why he was there i never knew. He simply walked up to me said ‘Hi and started walking with me, once we got to the point of diversion to the male and female hostel, he said very casaually;

I am coming with you to see Gloria, but I quickly need to pick up a text book for her, come with me please so we can walk together back, never thought twice, i just went with him on a natural whim, looking back now it was all pr planned.

We got to his room, he gave some excuse and left, came back after a while with a bottle of soft drink which he offered me, somehow I was even intelligent enough to ask him when are we getting back, he answered soon, that the book was kept by his room mate who is coming now.

Then i started feeling very weird, I see him come near me, start touching me, I could not even resist, I would try to say something but i just could not find my voice, I felt the room spinning, i just started crying, i knew what was about to happen, I have read and heard about this.

He raped me, with me crying, he raped me twice, not once,left the room after the first time, told me not to move because this hostel was very dangerous, he’s coming now to escort me out, i was feeling weak and sleepy, how could i even move even if i tried.

He came back after a short while, am sure he was just outside the entrance, then again he raped me, this time i had a bit of energy to try to fight him off, he just laughed and told me to behave or else it will not be only him.

Said I will be fine, that he liked me and if not for Gloria, he would want me to be his girlfriend. I could not even utter a word, i was in shock and above all i was SCARED.

He told me I could stay if i want, I just quietly stood up, put my clothes on and left, but not before him warning me not a word to Gloria or anyone. I wobbled my way back, i was lucky it was quiet around my hostel when I wobbled in.

I quickly grabbed a half bucket of water i saw outside, went straight to the bathroom, i would not stop scrubbing.

For two weeks I was withdrawn, I missed my classes for straight one week, I would cry when no one was watching.

I never understood his relationship with Gloria till I left for another hostel as they were never together as regular couple do, but there was something about her till now, that made me to believe she knew what was going to happen that day.

Dear Unbrokenchords, thank you for encouraging young girls to share their stories. I have never told anyone this story before. I am married now with two children, not even my husband knows, i just feel better knowing i have put this story out there.

It’s no longer a burden I carry around alone.

So Tea or coffee, this is one question that keeps popping up especially when we deviate to the health benefits of it. Tea has always been regarded as one of the healthiest drinks around, unlike coffee which for a time was even regarded as carcinogenic only later to be ruled out as harmful and even proven to be helpful in preventing colon cancer from coming back after treatment.

Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, the first being water, and beer coming up 3rd. Make no mistake though, coffee is really popular as some boasts that it acts as a drug of some sort or energy boost.



Deviating from health and moving a little upstream to the general overlook of both coffee and tea, to get a precise breakdown of which has more benefits over the other, I would compare different factors which both beverages possess to find out the better.

Taste
Most folks make up their mind on whether to go for coffee or tea just based on the taste alone.

Coffee which comes in different blends and from different parts of the world, appears somewhat bitter and harsh most times. This taste might not appeal to many who are not on the coffee side already.

Tea on the other hand, especially ones from tea leaves are easier to ingest and have a lesser acidic value so doesn’t really upset your stomach much.





Irrespective of the drink you prefer, it is not advisable to add many unnatural sugars and sweeteners to your drink, you are better off going with a beverage you can tolerate with little or no sweeteners.

Caffeine Content

It’s also a good source of getting energy. It’s because of this reason that most people take coffee or tea in the morning before kicking off the day.



Coffee has about twice more caffeine than Tea and this is actually kind of addictive to some people. Even though both contain Caffeine, the effect on the body takes two separate paths.

Coffee due to its high caffeine content quickly gives you that burst of energy and vitality you need to start the day, well there is a con to it though; the energy burst is short spent and then leaves you with that woozy feeling.

Tea on the other hand, has a milder effect because evidently it has lees caffeine and also Tea contains an amino acid called L-theanine, which actually reduces the absorbtion rate of caffeine into the body. It also has the ability to stimulate a neurotransmitter in the brain called GABA which has anti-anxiety effects. This puts you in a relaxed state and improved brain function.



There’s actually no winner here, it all boils down to the situation the beverages are to be used in. For example if you require to stay awake without doing any mental work later on, then Coffee is your drink, but for a student who needs to study and write a test the next day your best bet should be tea.

Okay I won’t over stress this one. Caffeine actually affects the human body longer than most people think.
