I think there is a mistake here between balanced football to defensive football, the way Conte likes his team to play, pochetino, etc.

That a team does not play ultra attacking football does not mean that they play defensive football. There is what is called balance in football.

The Atletico game is an example of how a reactive/defensive tactic will always affect you in the long run, After a while your team forgets how to coordinate attacks or forget attacking patterns, All they see is the threat of the opponent and how to nullify it while forgetting their own attacking plan. Its the same thing affecting Mourinho to a large extent

Atletico shines more vs team that they go into the tie as underdog, they score first and counter for the rest which is what they have always used for the top teams in the CL like Liverpool last season, Bayern 2016, Barca 2017 etc They almost used this to win the CL in 2014 and 2017 taking Madrid to extra time in both finals

But when they meet teams that are equal to them or where Atletico is the slight favourite, they become clueless. This was what happened to them vs Leipzig last season too, There was a season Roger Schmidt and Leverkusen took them to penalties over 2 legs. Their plan this season was to play 0-0 in the first leg or at worse get a fluke goal but the Giroud bicycle kick scattered their plan and they didnt have a plan B.
You have Suarez, Carrasco, Saul, Koke you have a 120M Felix, 80M Lemar, Correa 40M Dembele etc and still struggling to string 3 passes in opponent half never mind shots on target

The minute you take away that back 3 from Jorginho and put him in a midfield 2, he will get ran through as usual whereas Kante can play in any system. We need robust players, not specialists, so no one should start hailing weak players based on system. Alonso is another one. Good as wing back, but completely useless as full back. I have never seen Rudiger or Chris play well consistently in a back 4 but all of a sudden they are toast of the town in back 3 now.

No be today these all start, I was campaigning against specialist players like Ramires, Oscar, Fabregas, Mikel when they were in winning teams, and over the long run these players cost Chelsea consistency and were eventually found out and shipped on. We will all be here just like we have been over the last 3 years when Jorginho is being hailed one minute then becomes liability next minute. I rather put my hat on Pulisic and co long term than be hailing weak players just due to a stop gap solution.

I said penalty handball, when in your own box just like Kante's case. The amended handball rule for opponent box says, no goal no matter what as long as the ball touches they scoring teams hand during the cause of the goal.

You just can't hate Mount, there is no possible way. Boy is working so hard everyday to improve, and the results are showing. He has really improved. Hard work and dedication really pays. He will always give his all. Even though he is lacking talent wise in creativity, he just more than pays for it with putting all in the little one he knows how to do, giving at least 7/10 each match. And with that he keeps getting playing time which will help him improve and gain more experience. That is the type of players I like. Kudos to him.


I have noticed that our counter attacking has improved. There is now swift movement and running from counter opportunities and the urgency for the passes to be released forward and not reaching half way and later passing back cowardly.
