TravelRe: Are Taxis in Lagos Now Safe? by Greatpeter(m): 9:51am On Oct 17, 2005
I don't agree with you that same is still there.
When last did you go there?
There are lots of changes and the cars there are relatively okay.
That the taxis are brakeless? I won't agree either.
Taxis in lagos are safe only the Molues are death traps.
EducationRe: Post-JAMB Examinations in Nigerian Universities by Greatpeter(m): 7:27am On Oct 17, 2005
Well people that did not know the birth of JAMB quickly rise up and say post UME test is the best that has happened to education in Nigeria in the recent time but not at all.

In the efforts of FG to ensure that admission into universities in Nigeria is fair and just, relevant guidelines like marit, catchment area, educationally disadvantaged states were introduced in 1978.
through decree (act) No.2 of 1978 and amended by decree (act) No.33 of 1989 which established JAMB, joint Admissions and Matriculations board.

After the success of JAMB in conducting a criditable exams, additinal responsibilities was given to them to conduct exams for Polytechnics and Colleges of Educations. And due process was followed.

Now Universities have not been empowered to conduct Post- UME test, such test which some universities are now conducting before placement, to me is null, void and unconsistutional.
Before the post UME test should take off, it is either we scrap JAMB or amend the relevant act since JAMB will no longer be the final authority in the placement.

The fees charged by some of these universities are alarming. It shows education is now Plc in Nigeria.
If JAMB is scrapped, then the Universities can return to status quo ante and admissions will be based specifically on the immediate environment which describe here as "regionalism in education" especially in federal universities.

If post UME test is not urgently abolished it would be a veritable platform for unscrupulous university staffers to extort money from students, parents and guardians.

Post UME teat will encourage ethnicity, favourism, patronage, red-tape and other factors that will be a cog in the new admission policy.

If we are to scrap JAMB other examination bodies like WAEC and NECO should also be scrapped since exam fraud takes place at all levels of the educational system including tertiary institutions.
