Politics / Re: Did Buhari Really Schedule A Meeting For APC Members This Morning? by greggles: 3:17pm On Jun 09, 2015
9jatriot:

Do you have a spy camera inside my mind, because I have been wondering same thing? Considering how Saraki has been described as desperate, it may not be beyond him to have pulled this stunt o, because the president arrived 2am, when did he convene the meeting, how were the members communicated with?

Immediately I saw the channels TV news that he was absent at the meeting, My suspicion became strong. This morning, the national assembly gates were locked, probably if there were workers in there at the appropriate time, someone could have tipped the APC party leadership, lots of unanswered questions. This is called "Politics in high places", hope it brings development and not another crisis that will end up causing suffering on the masses.
Politics / Did Buhari Really Schedule A Meeting For APC Members This Morning? by greggles: 3:01pm On Jun 09, 2015
This question is coming from a neutral and unbiased point of view. I've been curiously following events regarding the Federal House of Assembly Inauguration this morning, and I am wondering, Did President Buhari really schedule a meeting this morning to intervene in the crisis rocking APC preceeding the election of leaders at the house of assembly, or has someone played a fast one on the APC House members? My question is based on These:

1. He promised not to interfere with the election of leaders at the National Assembly and to work with anyone who was duly elected

2. President Buhari will not schedule a crucial meeting like this on the day of elections and fail even to attend (as reported by Channels TV), even 2hrs after, without adequate communication. The president is known for punctuality

3. If actually the president wanted to intervene into the crisis rocking the national assembly, he would have probably delayed the elections as being rumored by many when the House of assembly complex was locked this morning

Sounds to me like someone in high places probably played on the intelligence of the APC lawmakers, and if actually someone did, one or more party members could be aware of this.

Meanwhile Congrats to the newly elected members of the Senate, and house of assembly in advance!

This is heroic. APC president and PDP deputy. Hope they are able to work together for the success of the new government. If they continue fighting, we the Nigerians will definitely be the ones to suffer!

Politics / Re: Monthly/ Yearly "Security Votes" Appropriation Of State Governors by greggles: 6:25am On Jun 09, 2015
These money should be dedicated to job creation and empwering youths.

Do you know that if we had Youwin in every state and these security votes are used to fund it, our unemployment rate in the country would tremendously drop?

Add up all these money and see that it will add up to to at least 200 billion, compare it to the 15 billion spent by FG on youwin annually, can you see the big difference?

Nigerian leaders and Nigerians generally need to save this country from collapse and slow pace of development caused by excessive greed

They reduced (or rebased, whatever) it from 24% to 6%, so any figure the NBS gives you, multiply it by 4, that's the real unemployment figure.

So it it means our unemployment rate is now 7.5 x 4 = 30% unemployment shocked shocked

DBA's are not so in demand as much as programmers are; especially Java Programmers. I can relate to your point raised.

That's exactly my point. They're not in demand because they're being neglected. Do not forget our institutions, both government and private should be on databases. Police database, inec database, ministries' databases, banks are using lots of dbas, other institutions should be doing same too.

I want to compete with sites like Jumia and OLX. So, I need a professional webmaster who can design a good e-commerce site for me ASAP.

Just tell me your price and show me samples of sites you have done in the past.

For a site like olx or jumia, I would take 100k if you do not want a payment system for customers buying items as in the case of olx, but in the case of jumia, it could take 100k as well if you want to adopt payment systems like simplepay, voguepay etc, but it could take more if you want to adopt interswitch webpay and other payment gateways which do not release their api openly for commercial development and integration to websites (forget the jargon). I would share my projects privately with you if you pm me. You will also confirm that I designed them because I have a unique signature at the bottom of most websites I develop ("powered by ...."wink And they all look very look and professional.

Please note that my websites are professional and when finished, I would also make them interactive too (mobile optimized). My prices are good based on the top quality of finishing and development flexibility I will offer you. Please pm me for sample projects and we can negotiate further. Thank you

Nonsense!

The highlighted is a core reason a creditor should never give anyone with that kind of mentality any credit.

If you are an IT professional that works as a contractor, then it is highly likely you are well paid and should be able to save up to start your own enterprise debt-free.

If not, that means you have not put your investment in an IT area that experiences a shortage of skills or has any value to the business community. The fact anyone can make such a judgement, shows lack of entrepreneurship and, hence, someone you would not want to give credit.

The worst argument for the case of IT professionals asking for some start up capital is that the start up cost for the business and cost of business development is relatively low.

Much of the tools needed to develop a product is at low cost because of the amount of free resources available on the net and in opensource communities. So start up cost should be relatively low.

If you develop a product that is of value to a business or customer, they tend to take it up very easily without much selling because it gives them a commercial advantage or makes their lives easier. So cost of business development is relatively low as you can start earning revenue easily, even if it is at the lower spectrum of the business community.

If you can't do these, why would anyone be giving you credit?

I believe you said this from an elite point of view, or maybe IT to you is about designing a blog and making money posting information online to attract traffic. IT is more than that. There are IT consultants whose interest are in the core deveopment aspect of the job, they are the ones who develop some of the products we use in managing content on the internet, and there are IT entrepreneurs, these people don't neccessarily need core knowledge of the field, all they're interested in is making money by either getting professionals to develop a commercial product or something like that. And it is wrong to say that there is low startup cost for IT, it gives the impression that being an IT professional is about buying a laptop and bandwidth and browsing the internet, or perhaps using wordpress to design a website. This is so wrong.

so the naija start up gets a good environemt, loans and creates the product. how do you deal with the preference given to foreign products?

We can compete with foreign products, just like the webhost companies are competing with foreign webhosts, all we need is investment to bring down our cost of production and service delivery. When it comes to IT, the only major difference would be cost, with the infrastructure in place, it would be a level play ground. Have you forgotten that rice was being heavily imported? Even eggs and chicken, turkey were also being heavily imported before government invested heavily on startups to produce these things massively, which even brought down the cost of these products

Nigerians are too quick to blame the government. yes government policies can help but its not required and should not be an excuse for lack of success.

Wow you really sound so harsh to startups. Don't forget the co-owner of whatsapp migrated from ukraine to the US as it didn't work out for him over there, he looked for jobs at facebook and google but was turned down, he said he once lived on food stamps, he got the environment he needed and the support and that's how he succeeded. Where its hard to get funding, policies are not favourable, environment is harsh on startups etc, only 2% or less of those who work hard will succeed because that's the much such environment can cater for. The people you see succeeding in Nigeria without help are like the 0.1% that nature have endowed with favour, the rest (2%) are those who the slacking economy will be able to support, I believe government can at least help by providing credit to IT startups the way they're doing for agriculturists. If really growth and success does not depend on support, why then is the government investing on agriculture? Why not leave everyone to succeed on their own just like that? Please understand that we need support to develop our sector of chosen career which is very important in developing this country

Did you read the post at all? or you did with a mind to just criticize. The OP said most IT professionals are inclined toward self employment and they deserve credit facilities to grow and develop their businesses to which they have already committed much money just like professionals in other endeavours. Nowhere in the write up did the guy solicit or imply reliance on government job but that's what you chose to see and respond to.

You did not offer a counsel or suggestions but only made an attempt to give unwarranted castigation.

Thanks, you read my post very well, we just need loans to setup on our own and grow, we can pay back, just some credit facility will do, after spending so much learning IT and practicing it to become self enterprising, you still struggle for years dealing with setting up infrastructure and electricity and other realistic issues, we deserve some attention, I don't really need a job, I just need some support in form of credit. Thanks for the post

nigeria and nigerians hate progress and advancement. crreate an electronic health record application and no one wants to use it, they prefer file and pen. Create anything, no one wants to adopt it. technology adoption rate is low because the people hate progress.

There is no market for IT product/ service consumption because people and companies are okay where they are.

Nothing to do with govt or electricity.

thats just how they are.

But government policies can help, for instance, in developed countries, buying something online could get you tax reduction than buying at the store, so people shop online and pick up at store to reduce tax, and companies go online to make more sales etc, just an example

ok you talked about startups.. most of the it professional's I've met hardly want to set up a startup ,, you all go get certifications and wait for someone to employ u.. why would I employ someone that learns how to maintain and implement another person's creation ,, but when he is asked to make something original he comes up short ,,,

ok go setup your start up using your own skills.. if you have a good idea apply for youwin.
but stop complaininanf do somethingg.

But like I said, I went into IT to be an entreprenueur, I've hardly applied for an IT job, infact, the last time I applied to a job, after interview, I was told that I was the best but I wouldn't be offered the job cos it would slow me down. The worst part of IT is having to deal with electricity challenges and the slow pace of growth of IT, I have a small clientele so its rather difficult having capital to invest on infrastructure ans take my business to the next level, its so hard getting a loan in Nigeria, I don't have a collateral, I need a loan, not free money, if I were abroad, I would be able to get one, but I wish you would appreciate how difficult it is here in Nigeria

Now this is it. There is what we call Standard. There is a standard in Medical field, Engineering field, Architectural field, Aeronautical field and also the IT field.

The standard in the IT sector is regulated by CPN just like we have COREN in engineering. You have to be a registered IT Professional ie CITP to benefit what other IT professionals are benefiting else you'll be left behind.

Certifications like CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, SQL, NET ADMIN etc are wonderful but they are not enough to place you there.
Be a registered IT professional CITP and you won't have to post this ever again.

Thank me later.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, will check it out asap how I can do that from here in abuja

You see, IT professionals are not neglected. Information Technology is the one of the major backbones of Nigeria's economy today. The problem is that they are on the lowkey and inhouse. Companies need IT professionals but won't state it publicly. The field is still thriving.

Looking at developed countries like China, US, UK et al, you'll see that IT is one of their major support. Don't give up.

Thanks for your input. But I still feel IT Professionals need some sort of special attention that Agriculture is getting today. When you travel abroad, its so easy getting a job in the IT sector, you see a lot of companies advertising everyday including startup companies and you'll easily see where you fit in. IT, health, food and construction are the major fields growing developed economies of the world but IT is much more outstanding because not many people can bend down and study codes and computer processes so the people who go into it are well paid, but in Nigeria the opportunities are so few and startup loans and credit to invest on one is so hard to get

Before I go ahead let me introduce myself. I am a certified database administrator and a professional website developer. I am a startup business owner with a small clientele but I am looking forward to expand to become bigger in the nearest future, but......

Is it only me feeling this or do other IT Professionals feel the same way? Are we neglecting IT in this country? We are supposed to be the technology drive force of this country but it seems most of us are struggling getting our feet stable on the ground. When I talk about IT Professionals, I mean the core ones who have either certified or undergone a certain degree of training in fields like Database Administration, website and mobile apps development, Programming and software development, systems audit, network administration, hardware maintenance and engineering etc.

I need answers, what is the future of IT in Nigeria? We see entertainment and agriculture growing in the country but I feel IT is completely neglected

It is my understanding that many IT professionals go into the field to be self employed or consultants, so they are entrepreneurs by this measure, but why can't we access loans and startup credit facility to establish our own companies and build on what we already have invested lots of money in? It costs a lot of money to get trained in IT so I think we deserve some credit and empowerment from government

I need answers and suggestions please. Thank You.
