Politics / Abiapoly Accreditations Withdrawal : I'll Declare State Of Emergency On Educatio by gregoryjoe002(m): 10:41am On Jul 21, 2022
The founder and proprietor of Gregory University Uturu Prof Gregory Ibe has expressed disappointment over the recent withdrawal of the accreditation status of Abia State Polytechnic Aba by the National Board for Technical Education(NBTE).

The Abia state governorship candidate on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA for the 2023 general elections, said he would declare state of emergency on education if elected .

According to Ibe, his evaluation of the current status of educational institutions in the state was the major reason he would declare state of emergency on the sector to restore the sector to it's past glory.

Prof Ibe made the statement while reacting to the recent development of withdrawal of accreditation to Abia State Polytechnic

" I sympathized with the students and staff of the institution whose academic programme have been truncated by the NBTE pronouncement" he said According to Prof Ibe, this is one withdrawal of accreditation too many to Abia state educational development.

According to him, this period is definitely not a good time to be an academic in Abia state .

"I am particularly pained by this sad development because of the preponderance of interventions I initiated through TETfund collaborations and distribution of palliatives to staff members as a way of forestalling this tragic outcome. Tell me what will be the fate of the unfortunate students whose academic progression has been forcefully truncated and the dilemma of staff whose woes arising from many months of unpaid salaries have been further compounded?” he asked .

Continuing, he said , " My evaluation of the current status of educational institutions in the state was the major reason i will declare state of emergency on the education sector if elected governor in 2023".

While sympathising with the students , he announced his willingness to absorb OND certified students of Abia Polytechnics into Gregory university Uturu to enable them convert to degree students

In his words “Leveraging the unimpressive outcome of survey conducted by industry experts on educational institutions in Abia state, which deployed Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indices and international best practices in education to assess the true health status of our primary, secondary and tertiary schools, I once again reaffirm my resolve to declare state of emergency that will lead to comprehensive reform of the sector once I am elected governor in 2023. But to create an immediate response to the Abia Polytechnic debacle, I have requested the management of our institution to work out modalities for possible absorption of desiring OND certified students of Abia Poly into Gregory University Uturu for conversion to degree scholars”.
Recalled that Prof Ibe had in the past initiated distribution of large consignment of food items to staff of Abia State Polytechnic Aba and Abia State University Uturu while facilitating critical interventions by federal government agencies for both institutions.

Nairaland / General / World Teachers Day: Prof Ibe Felicitate with Teachers by gregoryjoe002(m): 7:45am On Oct 05, 2020
WORLD TEACHERS DAY: PROF IBE FELICITATES TEACHERS
The Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu Prof Gregory Ibe has commended teachers for their selflessness, courage and devotion to duty even in the face of debilitating challenges.
Speaking on the heels of the commemoration of the 2020 edition of World Teachers Day, Prof Ibe who also doubles as chairman of Committee of Proprietors of Private Universities in Nigeria, specially saluted teachers for saving the education sector from imminent crises by switching to the online method of knowledge transfer during the season of total lockdown. According to him, The celebration of this years edition of World Teachers Day affords us the opportunity of recognizing and commending the unparalleled sacrificial diligence of our teachers and their proactive act of saving the education sector from crises by seamlessly switching to the online method of knowledge sharing during the harrowing days of total lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
He therefore advocated for comprehensive review of the remuneration of teachers in recognition and appreciation of their strategic importance to societal development, stressing that a sufficiently motivated teacher is panacea to under development and retrogression. According to Prof Ibe, the present practice of insisting that teachers should receive their reward from heaven alone should be discarded. He enjoined all beneficiaries of services rendered by teachers to ensure that they conversely return appropriate rewards to them, stressing that past students should form the habit of visiting, honoring and appreciating their teachers all the time.
It will be recalled that UNESCO proclaimed 5 October to be World Teachers Day in 1994, celebrating the great step made for teachers on 5 October 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, in cooperation with the ILO. The recommendation sets forth the rights and responsibilities of teachers as well as international standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions.

Nairaland / General / When Your Good Works Find You Out: Prof.Gregory Ibe, Enyi Abia,OFR Example by gregoryjoe002(m): 11:47pm On Aug 13, 2020
WHEN YOUR GOOD WORKS FIND YOU OUT: PROF.GREGORY IBE EXAMPLE

Recently, a renowned forensic/social psychologist, journalist, public policy analyst, author, and social critic, Dr. Law Mefor wrote an article titled “A Peep into the “Shortlist” of Candidates for Nigerian President of Igbo Extraction”, where he listed some South East personalities (mainly partisan politicians) who he feels are qualified candidates for the position of Nigerian president. Worthy of note among the personalities is a non-partisan politician in the person of Prof. Gregory Ibe, the Chancellor and owner of Gregory University Uturu which is one of Nigeria’s and West Africa’s foremost private universities.
Many people who do not know Prof. Ibe well might be curious why he made the list, but people who know him and his antecedents well, would understand that it is only his good works that inadvertently found him out!
Who is Prof. Gregory Ibe? Prof. Gregory Ibe, OFR (Enyi Abia) is a legendary Nigerian Business Executive, an entrepreneur par excellence, the moving spirit of educational transformation in Nigeria, a philanthropist and humanitarian.
He was born on December 10, 1963 in Kaduna where his parents, natives of Uturu, lived then and worked. Although born and brought up outside his parents nativity, Chief Gregory Ibe never ceased to be the quintessence of an Igbo son who is in perfect harmony with the rest of mankind world over. He adores his home place, Uturu, and makes Uturu adorable to the World.
He was not born into easy circumstances of life. Indeed, he had a raw deal with poverty in his early life which rather spurred him with the determination to attain great heights today. His tough early life toughened him to complete his primary, secondary and tertiary education, alternating between work and education. That was perhaps nature’s way to prepare him for his future role in Nigeria as the hope for the hopeless.
Prof. Ibe’s alma maters include: Boys High School, Ihube, Imo State; School of Accountancy and Management Studies, Aba; Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Enugu; and California Coast University, Santa Ana, CA where he obtained his Master’s Degree in 2003 and Doctorate Degree in Management in 2006.
Prof. Gregory Ibe is a great name in Nigeria particularly in education. Currently he constitutes the private sector spirit that is shaping science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Nigeria through his involvement in supply of the state-of-the-art teaching/learning equipment with innovative pedagogy in the delivery of the subjects. His intervention is currently transforming the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Nigeria at all levels of education. He has implanted entrepreneurship as curricular innovation in education and particularly in Business, Engineering and Technical/Vocational Education.
Prof. Ibe went further to establish his Private University called Gregory University, Uturu in Abia State, Nigeria with a focus on applied research, entrepreneurship and a Work-Based University Education. His University has the mantra “Knowledge for Tomorrow” and just recently in 2019 won the “best private university in Nigeria” award.
Prof. Ibe also established Gregory Ibe Foundation as a humanitarian medium to reach out to the poor and the helpless in Nigeria. The Foundation is in affiliation with World Medical Relief Inc. and Global Medical Relief Inc. in the United States for execution of medical aid programmes in Nigeria. Recently, through his foundation, he successfully concluded a first and second phase of palliatives distribution to the entire LGAs in Abia State, especially the less privileged, as a form of intervention against the hardship caused by the current covid-19 pandemic. His foundation also sponsored the fumigation of selected market places in Abia State. Even outside Abia State, the Imo State government also received donations of palliative items from the Gregory Ibe Foundation.
Prof. Gregory Ibe has been on the spotlight constantly for over two decades – not for his stupendous wealth or his countless national and international laurels, but consistently for his incredible, selfless investments in human welfare. He is a man not easy to deconstruct. Many have tried to define him in the context of populist notions of giving with the right hand and opening the left for pre-arranged returns. But he has risen above such notions, naturally, and practically redefined the character of philanthropy as a purely unconditional and selfless enterprise.
Prof. Ibe’s interventions in sustainable physical development at the grassroots, particularly the various rural roads rehabilitation and electricity projects he has single-handedly funded in his Uturu hometown and other communities; his footprints in the area of culture and heritage through the Uturu Royal Country Club which he founded in 2008, the Igbo (Uturu) Cultural Carnival which he founded and funded for over five years from 2010, and the World Igbo Summit that he has convened at Gregory University since 2017 – now the most influential initiative of its kind shaping the socio-economic and political future of Igboland. It is also to the credit of his pan-Igbo vision that Gregory University remains, till date, the only private university in Nigeria with a functional research centre on Igbo affairs, known as the Centre for Igbo Renaissance.
Prof. Ibe’s undertakings in the educational sector are objectively too numerous to enumerate in this singular write-up. Apart from the hundreds of scholarships he has personally granted for nearly three decades through the Gregory Ibe Foundation, his university has been an enviable pioneer, especially in science education, since its inception. The university has been a preferred national training centre for specialized areas of science education not only because of the world class equipment available in its laboratories but the quality of academics handling the courses. Recently, a scholar (student) of the university produced hybrid fuel-less power generator that is currently going through processes towards becoming patented. The school also invented the very first Human Sanitization Chamber in Nigeria as part of its response to the current global threat of COVID-19. Furthermore, the GUU Green Project Initiative is one of the most comprehensive environmental conservation campaign projects in the country, under which more than 1000 trees have been planted. The GUU Gender Advocacy Project has also been leading the campaign against rape and other forms of gender-based violence particularly in the South East.
Indeed, Prof. Ibe has done a lot more for humanity than whatever may have been reported in this write-up or in the media. In his words, “I have a humble background and I do not forget how my journey started. I have never been disconnected with my roots. Growing up, I experienced the pains and discomfort associated with daily struggles for survival. That is why I am deeply inspired by the words of John Donne: ‘every man’s suffering, every man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind and never send to ask for whom the bell tolls.’ Whatever I am doing for my fellow Abians today stems from my belief that we can all join hands to make Abia State better and lift families out of poverty.”
The most remarkable value of Prof. Ibe’s amazing philanthropy is that he never seeks to use his several acts of kindness to draw attention to himself. Unfortunately for him that does not like attention, good deeds such as his never go unnoticed no matter how hard you try to subdue them and that is why the recent article by Dr. Law Mefor should not surprise anybody as Prof. Ibe’s numerous good deeds over the years is simply finding him out!

Politics / Prof Gregory Ibe OFR, Commiserate With Gov Ikpeazu On The Death Of Chief Onuigbo by gregoryjoe002(m): 11:59am On Jul 29, 2020
GUU/GOV/CON/06/20July 28, 2020.

HIS EXCELLENCY,
OKEZIE VICTOR IKPEAZU, PH.D
EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ABIA STATE
GOVERNMENT HOUSE
UMUAHIA

My Dear Governor,

COMMISERATION

I have received with rude shock disturbing news of the unfortunate demise of the State Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of our great party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Johnson Onuigbo.

It is therefore with hindsight of the unique personality and strategic socio-political relevance of the man fondly called 'Akinbod', not just to our state but to the entire Nigerian nation, that i write to commiserate with you my dear Governor.

Without any iota of doubt, Chief Onuigbo will be remembered as a calculated and deft leader who used his position as Chairman to foster peace and harmony within the Abia political class, thereby creating in the process, a conducive environment for the successful conduct of governance without undue interferences, and free of rancor and acrimony.

While therefore consoling you on this tragic loss of a stabilizing force in the body politic of our dear State, Abia, it is my earnest prayer that the good Lord will, in His sovereign benevolence, grant the soul of our departed leader eternal rest, as well as release grace, first to his immediate family, the state and the entire nation, to bear this irreparable lose with fortitude and equanimity.

The Founder and Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu (GUU), Abia State has felicitated with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for surviving the COVID-19 attack.

Prof. Ibe congratulated the Governor in a letter he personally signed.

Full Statement…

It is against the backdrop of your recent miraculous healing and subsequent deliverance from the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic that I hereby write to formally felicitate with you, your family and indeed the good people of our dear state, on this immeasurable divine intervention by the God of Abia.

Though very excruciating, it is however instructive that your season of indisposition presented an irresistible opportunity for Abians to rally together, irrespective of political and religious differences, to intercede and petition God for his miraculous deliverance. Indeed it was a unique case of a people united by adversity and delivered by divinity.

Therefore, while completely identifying with legions of spontaneous praise and thanksgiving generated by our people to the Almighty, it is my intercession that the good Lord will perfect your healing, preserve you, spirit, soul and body, while strengthening your resolve to recommit yourself to the onerous task of repositioning our state.

You may continue to count on my unreserved partnership and unalloyed support as you labour tirelessly to make Abia truly great.

According to him, ” As a parent and educationist, I am particularly pained by the untimely death of this promising Abian and will like to use this medium to condole with the family who have been thrown into unexpected mourning by this tragedy”. He therefore called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema and the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa to in his words “launch a high powered investigation into the unsavory incident as a way of exposing the hazards and perils confronting Nigerian students in foreign countries”.

Health / Chief Ibe Ph.d Builds A Specialist Hospital In Uturu by gregoryjoe002(m): 6:38am On Aug 30, 2016
Chief Gregory Ibe, Ph.D OFR, the Onye of Abia State, Is a consummate philanthropist and healthcare giver, the medical arm of Gregory University, Uturu emerged from the fact that Ibe chose to attend to the healthcare needs of the aged including his father 94 and his uncle 104 both of whom have survived the stress of old age because of a loving and caring son. He is also asking the Federal Government to sit up and be more caring towards the needs of the elderly from 60 upwards.

Th Onye Abia, observed back home that people were dying and life expectancy was low. So he decided to provide hope for the hopeless in Nigeria starting with healthcare for the aged. At the graduate school his MSc programme was on healthcare management and the thesis was on longevity starting with his community in Uturu.

What prompted this gesture was his observation since 1991 that rather than people elongating their age they were dying with a poor life expectancy rate. The idea came to him that it was possible to turn this around and add say 10 to 20 more years to their ages by providing them with a better healthcare management.

Take his father Chief Ibe who is currently 94. He did not leave him to die of prostate but followed the illness regimentally. He has an uncle who is 104 who is also receiving an excellent healthcare attention. According to chief Greg , once a man or woman is 60 and above, there is need to provide a healthcare kit that will drive the individual to a goal of attaining 80 and above and in excellent spirit. In attaining this goal in his village, he had to set up a hospital for the people. There was emphasis on treating and inoculating the people against tuberculosis, an airborne disease that is very infectious.

Chief said nobody takes adequate care of it in our country unlike in the US where from primary to college level it is a major issue by way of inoculation. In Nigeria, the opposite is the case. In terms of immune breakdown, tuberculosis ranks next to HIV. The first thing done in US is to get everyone inoculated and the attention they give to it will save so many souls that would have died through ignorance and lack of care. Sometimes immune failure comes from tuberculosis before HIV.

That is why at Gregory University Teaching Hospital Uturu; they carry out free surgery and bring in doctors to help the sick.

Thank You.
