I created this thread so OPs who have bought this phone can share their good and experiences. I recently laid my hand on an OPPO phone after all the hype I’ve been seen on Big Brother and I must say that it is really different from what I am used to. As a sharp Naija boy, I love my specs and of course, my budget no too gallant like that. Anyhow, I ordered one of the mid-range OPPO phones from Jumia, A5s to be precise and here is my review: Price 6/10 There were two options 3+32GB and 4+64GB at N54k and N69k. I definitely went for the bigger version. My storage and RAM are not up for negotiation. I wouldn’t say it is a cheap phone but for the quality, the price is quite okay. Display 8/10 I really like the fact that the screen is big and the display resolution is not bad. A 720x1520 pixel on a 6.2-inch screen for the price is not bad at all. Especially when you realize that the screen is made from corning gorilla glass. The phone is rugged and big enough to enjoy my video games and Netflix. Also, the A5s has this special eye protection mode that prevents eye-aches when using the phone in the midnight. Appearance & Design 7/10 I love the curves on this baby. The phone looks finer than the cost actually and there is no way I’m ever putting a pouch on it. It is surprisingly comfortable to hold in the hand even though it is rather on the big side and the sleekness can be spotted from afar. My only problem with it is that the body is made of some plastic-like material which is not bad but I just wished it came with a metallic body design. The phone is scratch proof and also very light, guess that is why OPPO used that material. Camera 8/10 After seeing the N139k OPPO F11 Pro, I was thinking the camera on the OPPO A5s will be bad but truth is, it is not far off. It doesn’t have that rising camera though but the picture quality is actually very good. I personally have not seen any phone below 70k with a better camera than this OPPO A5s. It even takes pics in wide-angle mode. Here are the specs in jargons: 13MP,f/2.2,AF + 2MP, f/2.4, depth sensor, with LED flash, HDR, panorama features!!!), selfie camera- (8MP, f/2.0 with HDR feature). Battery Life and Performance 10/10 This phone’s battery is DOPE. Once I charge my A5s in the morning before leaving home, I don’t need to charge it all day until I come back. The battery is very big and also doesn’t drain fast at all. The 4230mAh battery lasts me over 24 hours even with heavy gaming and video calls. Overall Rating 7.8/10 The phone doesn’t hang or get hot too. In fact, I always tell anyone that cares to listen that this OPPO is actually very good. Once I hold small bar, I’m upgrading to the F11 Pro. That phone is a beast Where are my other OPPO A5s users, share your reviews and let’s relate.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he was "completely fine with chasing" Manchester City after his side drew at Everton and missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League. The goalless draw means that for the first time since 7 December the Reds are behind their title rivals having played the same number of matches. But Klopp said: "Who wants to be top of the table at the beginning of March? "It is nice but there are lots of games to play." The Reds are one point behind champions City who won 1-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday to go above them with nine matches left. "I'm completely fine with chasing," Klopp said. "I watched Match of the Day last night and saw the celebrations of Manchester City - they had 900 chances and scored one goal, a shot with the wrong foot. "You have to be ready for these chances." Klopp also said the effects of Storm Freya, which brought strong winds across the UK on Sunday, played a part in his side's lack of cutting edge. "The wind does not help and there was a lot today. You have to be ready for the fight of the second ball," said the German. Liverpool were seven points clear of Manchester City on New Year's Day before Pep Guardiola's side cut the gap to four by winning when the sides met at Etihad Stadium on 3 January. The Reds followed that loss - their only league defeat of the season - with two wins but they have since drawn four of their past six Premier League games. "We become the chasers now and all the pressure is on Manchester City," said Liverpool's Scotland left-back Andrew Robertson. "We will fight for every last ball until the whistle is blown at the end of the season. The pressure has been on City because they are expected to retain the title. "Everton think they have stopped us from winning the league. It shows how well we are doing that they want to stop us." Folding phones have been one of the talking points of MWC 2019, as OEMs raced against each other to show off the first generation of this nascent technology. Samsung took to the stage to unveil the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and Huawei showed off the Huawei Mate X. Joining the race, Oppo has teased its own foldable phone. Oppo’s Vice President Shen Yiren Brian shared images of Oppo’s folding phone on his personal Weibo page. Oppo’s folding phone is similar to the Mate X rather than the Galaxy Fold, in the sense that the phone has only one display that folds outward (instead of having two displays of which one would fold inwards). Oppo’s phone/tablet also has a black bar that would house the sensors and camera setup. Either side of the device can be used when the phone is folded, and you can unfold the phone to get a much larger display. Mr. Brian did not share any further details of the foldable phone. However, the VP himself concluded that the phone did not really offer a huge improvement in terms of user experience. He has invited feedback on the consumer interest in the device to help decide if Oppo should consider mass producing this device. Folding phones in their current form, i.e. their first generation, are not really meant to be products that will fly off the shelves like conventional smartphone flagships do. All companies that have invested into this technology realize that the first generation is mainly to “beta test” the technology with end consumers with higher disposable incomes, to gauge whether this area is something they can work further on. Think of these devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge — a smartphone which had just one side of the display curved. The Note Edge was not a device that was considered a best-selling product, but it did lay the foundation stones for all the curved edge displays that are now commonly seen on Samsung’s flagships such as the Galaxy S10. OEMs no longer want to be left behind for the next big thing, and so you see everyone getting their hands wet this time around. https://www.xda-developers.com/oppo-foldable-phone-teased/

Gordon Banks, who won the 1966 World Cup with England, has died aged 81. "It is with great sadness that we announce that Gordon passed away peacefully overnight," a statement from his family read. "We are devastated to lose him but we have so many happy memories and could not have been more proud of him." Banks was between the sticks when England beat West Germany in July 1966 at Wembley, the Three Lions’ last major triumph. He went on to make 73 caps for England and turned out nearly 200 times for Stoke City. His playing career was cut short by a car crash that cost him the sight in one eye. Banks was regarded as one of the best-ever goalkeepers and his stop from Brazil’s Pele in 1970 became known as the “save of the century”. |

Legislation introduced this week by Maryland state lawmakers would raise investment advice standards for brokers and insurance representatives — marking an expansion of coverage compared to a Securities and Exchange Commission proposal. The Financial Consumer Protection Act of 2019, introduced in the Maryland Senate on Monday and recently posted online, contains a short provision that would make brokers and insurance agents fiduciaries and would require them to act in the best interests of their customers "without regard to" their own financial gain. The bill also places the same requirement on investment advisers, who already must meet a fiduciary standard. The inclusion of insurance agents makes the Maryland approach closer to that of the now-defunct Labor Department fiduciary rule that would have applied to retirement accounts. The move brought immediate resistance from the industry. "We strongly urge the legislature to think twice about a bill that would do more harm than good to the Marylanders it is intended to benefit," Bruce Ferguson, senior vice president for state relations at the American Council of Life Insurers, said in a statement. "It will deny many savers in the state access to vital financial and retirement security products at the very time they are most needed, especially by low- and moderate-income Marylanders." The ACLI supports a standard similar to the one the SEC has proposed in its Regulation Best Interest, which is designed to raise the broker standard from the current suitability standard. The SEC released its proposal last April; a final rule is expected sometime this summer. But a fiduciary advocate applauded Maryland lawmakers for targeting insurance sales. "Insurance producers have a significant impact on the marketplace and they are important to a lot of ordinary investors and consumers," said Knut Rostad, president of the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard. "It's good that they are brought in under this legislation." An aide to one of the Maryland bill's authors, Sen. James Rosapepe, D-College Park, said a hearing will be scheduled in the Senate Finance Committee. A House companion bill could be introduced as soon as Friday. Maryland is one of several states pursuing reform of investment advice standards. A fiduciary regulation has been proposed in Nevada. Financial industry trade associations say state-level activity could produce an array of advice regulations. "We want the states to stand down," said Lisa Bleier, managing director and associate general counsel at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. "Each state could take a different approach and create conflicting regulations. That's why we support a federal solution." Michelle Carroll Foster, vice president for state affairs at the Financial Services Institute, agrees a national standard of care should be promulgated by the SEC. "There are a lot of unknowns given that Reg BI is not final," Ms. Foster said. That's all the more reason to make progress at the state level, Mr. Rostad said. "It's great that another state is moving ahead to protect investors while the SEC falters," he said. |

Gonzalo Higuain endured a difficult Premier League debut as he was substituted during Chelsea's 4-0 defeat by Bournemouth. The Argentine forward made his Chelsea debut in the FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday, but he was selected for the first time in the Premier League by manager Maurizio Sarri on the south coast on Wednesday night. Higuain was a subdued presence throughout the 65 minutes he was on the pitch at the Vitality Stadium, however, with Nathan Ake and Steve Cook closely marking him throughout his display. The 31-year-old was replaced by Olivier Giroud shortly after David Brooks had doubled Bournemouth's lead, and it led to an unhappy reaction from the travelling supporters, who were heard voicing their displeasure towards Sarri. "You don't know what you're doing," could be heard being chanted from the travelling section as Chelsea fell to their heaviest Premier League defeat in 23 years. |
