Samantha125:I think it depends on the perceived value of remaining abroad. If they feel they have better economic chances there, they prefer to bring their parents to stay with them. I honestly think most people in diaspora are homesick. They just don’t think returning home is the safer option. VSGcare on social |
writetopoker:We do need to reimagine how we plan for retirement and the elderly among us. Imagine if he is no longer able to support her. |
DeltaBachelor:Quite a sad story. I agree. |
Kindly take minute to indicate the option that would give you more peace of mind. Care visits or live-in caregivers. Thank you |
It began with a trickle in 2010. Some of the folks from school had gotten their PRs and were excited to be leaving for Canada. No problem. Then a wave rose for Australia in 2013. Even more people from my circle had left the shores of Nigeria. It was okay. Not too bad. Then the 2020 wave where everyone was convinced no life remained in Nigeria. You know about the exodus that occurred in the following years and how we continue to seek new lives abroad. Now you’ve left and you’re busy with work and family. You rarely have time. Who will take care of the ones who raised you? How are we planning for our loved ones even as we seek greener pastures abroad? Did you know that Elderly parents are at higher risk of falls and health issues without regular attention. If your parent needed daily help, would you hire a live-in caregiver or a home care company? Dear All, It has become imperative to create this directory to guide our brothers and sisters who want to rent or own property. While there are several wonderful landlords in the country, there are others who are callous and greedy. There are major faults with the buildings which they hide from unsuspecting tenants until they have taken possession of the property. This directory intends to call out these faults so the landlord is forced to fix them or sell the property to someone who can. Then we have unscrupulous lawyers and caretakers, scammer agents, scammer landlords and so on. The change starts with you. If this post can help someone avoid renting or buying a bad property, we would have done something good. Kindly refrain from the temptation to blacklist a property out of spite and keep your issues to yourself. Only speak truth on this thread. To keep things balanced, we welcome contributions in form of endorsements on posts. If you see a house of horror you’ve also lived in, kindly confirm the current status of the building as things might have changed. If you are seeking a home, don't take status updates as genuine. Ensure to get your building inspector to inspect the place for faults before taking it. The posting format will be; 1. House of Horror address 2. Flat/space description 3. Issue(s) with the house Also; A. Please be as specific as possible. Don’t just say crazy landlady. What exactly did she do? B. Don’t say wet floor, specify where C. Do not post pictures of the house or landlord. Anyone who needs further information can request on the post thread. For a better idea of what I am trying to achieve here, see an example below; HOH address: 5 Rosamond Street, Mushin, behind the filling station under Jibowu bridge. Flat description: Downstairs front flat Major House Issue(s) to look out for: 1.Waste from the toilet upstairs would leak past the drainage in the general bathroom. You could see the feaces pass by. 2. The Landlord’s generator was placed in front of the flat such that noise would reverberate throughout the flat whenever there was power outage. He He wouldn’t move it despite having enough room in the compound to do so. 3. Kitchen sink emits a terrible smell that would subside temporarily after using disinfectant only to resurface after a short while. Check that these issues have been fixed before moving into the house. I am sympathetic to the landlords who try their best but in the absence of proper regulation, there is no way to save ourselves and our families from Mold infested houses, water damage, generator smoke filled houses, leaky buildings, stinky soak away, generator noise, don't, flooded houses, power issues and so on. The intention is not to bash, but to raise the standard of product (in this case housing) that we pay for. Consider this a social service and please post your houses of horror so people can know to avoid them. God bless you as you comply. |

I emailed them twice but got no response. I called first contact and was told that they never got any email from UKVI. I also got my branch to send a reference letter. In the end my application was refused because according to UKVI Firstbank did not respond despite the fact that they sent several emails to Firstbank. They also said that they do not recognize any communication coming from the branches and they only deal with the headquarters . I would advise you go to the headquarters or if you have more time, run your POF in a different bank. Firstbank obviously has a lot of housekeeping to do. Portex: |

Hello, Please was your application successful? First Bank did not respond to the email from UKVI in my case. It appears that they have a problem. I contacted them and they are telling me they have escalated to the proper unit and I should expect a call back in 48hrs. Time is far gone. Does anyone have a quick fix for this? I did my biometrics on the 18th of July. Portex: |

Good Day All, Has anyone who used First Bank for POF received a positive outcome in the past two weeks? I have read that the visa application could be refused because the bank didn't respond. Has anyone been able to mitigate this? Please share how you did this successfully. I would really appreciate it. Thank you. |
