A Syrian migrant suspected of planning a bomb attack on a Berlin airport has committed suicide in his prison cell in Leipzig, Germany.

The website of Der Spiegel said Jaber al-Bakr had been on hunger strike and was under round-the-clock surveillance.

He had been turned in to police on Monday by three Syrian refugees after being on the run for two days.

German police had been watching him for months, but failed to arrest him when they raided his flat on Saturday.

Germany urged to reward Syrian refugees who arrested fugitive

Al-Bakr, 22, had been granted asylum after coming to Germany last year.

German intelligence received reports last week that he might be planning an attack, and they alerted police in the eastern state of Saxony.

Authorities discovered last Thursday that the suspect had used the internet to get bomb-making instructions and had obtained explosives.

When police raided the flat in the eastern city of Chemnitz, they found 1.5kg of TATP, a home-made explosive used in the deadly jihadist attacks in Paris last year and in Brussels last March. The explosives were “extremely dangerous”, police said.

But al-Bakr managed to slip the net, and made his way to the city of Leipzig where he asked the Syrians for help.

The three told police they had heard about the manhunt and tied him up while one of them knelt on him.

They warned police who finally managed to arrest him.

The authorities believe al-Bakr had links to the group that calls itself Islamic State.

Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are cutting ties with a social media surveillance company after a report by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) claimed it was being used by the police to target protesters.
Digital Trends reported in April that Geofeedia — a social media mapping tool that analyzes geotagged messages on the aforementioned platforms — was receiving funds through the CIA’s venture capital firm, In-Q-Tel, in light of a report by The Intercept.

Now, the ACLU claims it has uncovered documents in which Geofeedia touts the “special access” it has to user data thanks to its “arrangements” with the leading social networks.

This is despite the fact that all three social media companies have policies in place that prohibit developers from selling user data for the purposes of surveillance.

As a result of Geofeedia’s marketing efforts, law enforcement in Oakland and Baltimore have used its tool to monitor protests, and target activist groups considered “overt threats,” according to the ACLU.

A Nigerian banker has shocked many after he revealed he dumped banking for plumbing.

According to Bonire Abdulrahman Femi, growing up, he had a dream to become an Army General. He was so passionate about this that he refused to write the university entry exam (Jamb) when he was passing out of secondary school. This, to him, was to make his parent give his ambition their all.

However, after several failed attempts to secure an admission into the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), he began to realize that he has to have several other realistic plans – like become a successful
entrepreneur. But, the big question was, how was he going to achieve this feat?

According to Bonire, he let go of his military ambition and turned to plumbing which his father taught him.

However, after several failed attempts to repackage and promote his plumbing business, shortly after graduating from the university, Femi gave in to the challenges of paying the bills and took up a day job with an insurance company and a bank in quick succession.

But, all along, his dreams of building his own business would not let him be.

Eventually, he resigned from the bank and went back fully into his plumbing business.


Although, he might still be having some other great business plans up his sleeves, as far as plumbing is concerned, Bonire says he’s living his dreams.

A septuagenarian, Godwin Agbada, has blamed the devil for the alleged defilement of two girls aged 12 and 14 years in his workshop.

Agbada, who was paraded at the headquarters of the Delta State Police Command in Asaba, yesterday admitted to the offence, but denied having carnal knowledge of another victim, Ebele Olise.

The 74-year-old suspect, who expressed regret over his action, added that both minors often came to his workshop to visit and that he frequently gave them money.

He said he is married with five children.

Asked if he could defend himself before his wife and children following his arrest, Agbada said: ‘Yes, I fit look my children for face. I noh shame, but I noh happy with wetin I do. Na devil make me do am.’

Sources links A 40-year-old man, Hafizu Isyaku, has allegedly impregnated his 13-year-old daughter in a move to satisfy the requirements of the cult group he joined for a ritual purpose.

To compound the woes of his wife and mother of the girl, the man continues sleeping with his girl after getting the pregnancy aborted.

His wife, Maryam Manta, disclosed this to reporters at her residence in Kabala Doki, Kaduna, saying the incident occurred at Tudun Wada, Maraba, near Abuja, before she relocated to Kaduna.

She said she got to know about her daughter’s pregnancy when
she returned from a three-month journey. She said, “When I returned from my journey where I went to see my parents, I noticed my daughter was sick and was behaving strangely.

Earlier, I didn’t suspect anything because my husband always gave her some concoctions to drink, claiming it was going to heal her. When the sickness persisted and I noticed my daughter had missed her period, I questioned and threatened her to tell me if she had any affair with any man. Eventually, she opened up to me that her father had been having canal knowledge of her while I was away.

“When I confronted my husband, he cried and confessed joining a cult which mounted pressure on him to get his daughter pregnant and then abort it as a sacrifice. I became confused and wept profusely but when he promised to disassociate himself from the cult, I went together with him to the hospital where the pregnancy was aborted.”

Speaking further, she said she found out that after the abortion, her husband was still having s*xual intercourse with his daughter.

“I caught him red handed in the very act. I became heartbroken and absconded from his home in Maraba and returned to Kaduna with my six children. When I arrived Kaduna, I reported the issue to the District Head of Kabala Doki, Danlami Bawa, who invited my husband for some discussions.”

She said she had filed a court case at the Sharia Magistrate court, Magajin-Gari in Kaduna for the full custody of her six children.

Efforts by Daily Trust to get the husband’s reaction proved abortive.

Olasco has humiliated and oppressed me for too long, and now, i feel it’s time to speak up. The last business deal i had with him that really pissed me off was Kurukuru, a three part movie i wrote and produced while i was 8months pregnant in 2015.

He released kurukuru online and on DVD in nov 2015, and then claimed we didn’t make any profit from the 3 releases of the movie despite the huge success record the movie had. I decided to keep mute about everything since last year, because i do not like to fight anyone or make noise over anything whatsoever. He sent me an embarrassing sum of N300, 000 which he believes should serve as my payment for Emere, Irawo meji and Kurukuru part1,2 and 3. I quietly moved on with my life and faced my work squarely, but Mr Akeem Balogun will not let me be.

He keeps oppressing and terrorising anyone i choose to do business with. He even went as far as influencing movie marketers and some movie producers to stop casting me for movie roles. Why? What exactly did i do to you? What exactly do you want from me? Mr Akeem Olatunji Balogun please leave me alone, i refuse to be enslaved by you, like you enslave some others. You don’t pay them and you also won’t let them do business with other people. Maybe it’s because i refused to date you even after all these years, that is why you are strongly determined to destroy me.

I serve a living God Mr Akeem and the God i serve will never allow darkness overcome light. Olasco films has refused to pay me my royalty for the three movies: Emere, Irawo meji and Kurukuru part1, 2, 3 and i have not yet taken him to court for that, and he is here, strongly advocating against me doing business with other marketers and film distributors of my choice. I know you are tough but my God is tougher than you. Don’t try HIM. I still have the bounced cheque of 1million naira that you gave me in 2011. May my God reward you accordingly. My beautiful fans and fellow Nigerians all over the world, pls help me tell this man to leave me alone oooooooooo if he does not want the wrath of God to decend on his entire household.”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will continue to blame his predecessors for the persisting woes in Nigeria since he emerged President in 2015.

He said despite the criticism of passing the buck, it was necessary for him to continue to blame former presidents Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo and others before him as the reason for the supposedly unprecedented economic crisis the country has found itself in.

Buhari stated this at an event tagged, “The Conversation: An evening with creative youths,” which took place inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with the theme, ‘Creative youth as drivers of the change agenda’

He said, “I am going to bore you with what we met. I know that I am being accused in the papers of passing the buck, but passing the buck is sometimes absolutely necessary to remind people who take things for granted.

“When we came in, I screamed to high heavens because I had promised a lot while seeking votes. I said where is the saving? There was no saving. There was no infrastructure, power, rails, roads, there was none. What did we spend the money on? I was told buying food and petrol.

“Where were the billions going? We conducted a study and found out that the oil marketers were committing fraud on at least one third ‎of what they were importing, which is about 25 per cent of our foreign exchange.

“The youth must watch our elite, especially with the condition we found ourselves. It is unpatriotic for anybody to pretend that economically we have no problem. I have bored you with this long explanation because there are things that could be hidden from you by those that have mismanaged the country in the last 16, 17 years,” Buhari said.

The President’s wife, Aisha; Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo; as well as governors and other top government officials, were reportedly at the event.
