I Know Messi is the Best in the World–Maradona Diego Maradona has reiterated his belief that countryman Lionel Messi is the best player in the world. The Argentine seemed to take aim at the Barcelona star last weekend, when he appeared to question the way that the 31-year-old is deified. Maradona, in particular, took aim at Messi’s mentality, claiming that he is not a leader. he was cited as having accused the Barca ace of “going to the bathroom 20 times before a game”. The Dorados head coach, however, has said that his comments were taken out of context and accused the media of driving a wedge between himself and the player he once led as Argentina coach. “I know who Leo is, I know he’s the best player in the world,” he said on Sunday. “If I said a player goes to the toilet 20 times before a game, I never named Lionel Messi. “They want to put me into confrontation with Messi but they cannot. The friendship I have with Lionel is bigger than anything they can write, and I’m saying that he’s the greatest in the world. Report a problem |

Xavi: "Messi may be more silent in the dressing room but is an absolute leader" as.com Oct 19, 2018 2:11 PM The former Barcelona midfielder says he disagrees with Maradona's criticism of Messi and says he has never hidden and is a complete leader. Xavi Hernández spoke to Super Deportivo de Villa Trinidad about Barcelona, Lionel Messi and his former teammate, Neymar, who has been linked with a move back to Spain in recent weeks. Maradona on saying Messi can't be a captain: "I disagree with Maradona. Messi is an incredible leader, he maybe more silent in the dressing toom but an absolute leader. He always wants the ball, he always offers himself, he has personality. He has never hidden." Pundits who are too critical: "I don't like when former footballers are too critical with former teammates. I'm not just talking about Maradona, but in general. These footballers who are very critical with their professional teammates but they have been there and they know the difficulty. I don't understand the strong criticism against players when you have been there too." Messi and Argentina: "I think he'll retun. He needs time to reflect and to rest but I think he'll go back. He is a competitive beast and he will want to try and win with Argentina."

Lionel Messi can't go five minutes without being dragged into a debate about whether he's better than Cristiano Ronaldo or not but now the Barcelona forward has been voted the greatest sportsman of all time! Greatest of all time, GOAT. It's a big statement to make and it gets tweeted a hell of a lot of times about different people. So we decided to find out exactly who the best ever is, was and maybe always will be - unfortunately we didn't include Bret Hart in the conversation. After a short discussion in the office we landed on 16 names. Serena Williams, Muhammad Ali, Phil Taylor, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Schumacher, Ronda Rousey, Michael Jordan, AP McCoy, Pele, Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It was difficult enough coming up with just 16. Most sports don't have a definitive best ever and there's a lot of sports, some didn't make it like snooker or American Football, but we did our best. After four quarter finals the finalists were Ali, Federer, Jordan and Messi. After an hour of voting the Argentina forward came top of the poll, beating the boxer by a mere 2% This one has caused a lot of controversy, of course the Ronaldo fans aren't too happy, and even in the office we're struggling to agree who should have won between ourselves. Messi has won pretty much everything in the game and broken so many records, especially for Barcelona, but he's never won anything with his national team, losing three finals in a row. Messi has won the Ballon d'Or a record five times. Image: PA Images I imagine they'll be lots of argument about the winner. Of course a
