Why do we celebrate birthdays?

Gosh! My dad takes the trophy for this one.
Growing was fun to an extent but my dad takes the fun out of it more often than not.
Not only were we not allowed going out, friends couldn't visit too!
We were left out in almost everything that was done both @school, church & in the neighborhood.
Even to go downstairs and play with neighbors was a taboo. Anywhere he wasn't taking us to was a definite NO NO, and he never got the time to take us out cos he was a banker.
Getting him to consent to our attending a tutorial class (which was the norm then) was a Herculean task cos he preferred a home tutor.

Looking back now, i don't see how his confinement helped: my younger bro is still the most stubborn boy i've ever come across, my sis often times rebelled against him and i have this strained rtship with him now. If anything, it got us very close to our mom while been scared of him.
