For more than 30 years, Ruth E. Carter has dressed the characters in seminal films about the African-American experience, from "Amistad" and "Selma" to "Love & Basketball" and much of Spike Lee's oeuvre. But her work for 2018's "Black Panther," which has earned her a third Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design (once again, she could become the first Black woman to take home the award), presented her with a unique opportunity to look beyond America, and into the future. With director Ryan Coogler and production designer Hannah Beachler, she crafted a new vision of Africa through Wakanda, a fictional country that leaves the West in the dust in terms of technological and social advancement. Her final vision was an unabashedly slick hybrid of traditional garments and motifs mined from across the continent. (She had a massive team of 100 buyers to source pieces for inspiration.) She describes the result as a "quick study of the tribes, the cultures and the traditions of beauty" that different communities used to present themselves. The Dora Milaje, fierce female warriors led by Danai Gurira's Okoye, wear handcrafted metal neck rings inspired by those worn by the Southern African Ndebele tribe, and tabards covered in the type of intricate beading that proliferates across the continent. Angela Bassett, as Queen Ramonda, wears 3D-printed versions of a Zulu married woman's hat as her crown. When undercover in a South Korean casino as the spy Nakia, Lupita Nyong'o wears a striking dress hand-painted with Wakandan text -- a nod to kente cloth native to Ghana.

Do you ever walk around an art gallery and think, "this would be so much better if I was nude?" If the answer's yes, then the Palais de Tokyo in Paris has, in a manner of speaking, got you covered. This stylish contemporary art gallery allowed guests to strip off for a clothing-free event on feb 25. Guests checked their clothing into the cloakroom, before wandering the halls of the Palais to admire the sculptures and striking paintings. To avoid any surprise encounters, the visit took place before the official opening of the museum. Clothed staff were on hand to offer insight into the artwork. The event marked the first time a Paris museum has welcomed nudists and follows last summer's successful establishment of a nude zone in the city's Bois de Vincennes park. Nude guests told local newspaper Le Parisien that they enjoyed the experience. "The atmosphere was very nice," said one, adding that there was initially some embarrassment, but that being nude allows you to experience the artwork differently.

mauriceju2:I strongly believe that we the south-south people are indebted to the people of south-east (Igbos). We owe them love and support as long as Nigeria is concerned. First, we betrayed them during the civil war. A crucial moment that they trusted us most, but we supported the enemies because, we thought we were better off with the Gambari parasites, little did we know we were digging our grave. We watched the enemies (Gambaris) devour our brothers, then we collected their properties on our land. I believe that was a mistake that has been forgiven by our kind brothers in the east, but we don’t need to make such mistake again, we must always stand on the same page with our Igbo brothers, no matter what. No doubt these Gambari parasites hate us the south-south people, but if they want to execute that hatred, they channel it to the Igbos because they don’t see any difference between the south- south and south-east. So why can’t we show our big brothers that have been receiving the Gambari spears for us, so much love? Apart from the physical violence they face on our behalf, the rest part of the country now transfer the hate to the Igbos, simply because they supported Jonathan that they also see as their own. You can imagine Buhari managing to give 7 appointments to the south, 4 from south-west, 3 from south-south and none from south-east, this explains how our Igbo brothers are paying for loving us. I am from Ogoni in Rivers state, and my language is not in anyway related to Igbo language like some part of Rivers, but each time i put up a post that is not favourable to APC or Hausa/ Fulanis, they just start attacking the Igbos, not minding that i am from Ogoni and not Igbo, that is the kind of thing i am talking about. It is a crime against ourselves to hate or betray the Igbos again. Each time i see or hear my people speak ill of the Igbos, i weep. It makes me feel we are still not wise to know our true brothers |

Mr president, though we were making progress during the tenure of former president Jonathan, we insisted you came in because we felt that Jonathan was not doing enough in the fight against corruption. Even though the economy was booming and we had overtaken south Africa as the best economy in Africa... When You came in, our expectations Were high.. But you dashed our Hopes and Divided us more than ever.. With your past military experience we felt that ''Alas'' we have found the perfect man. A Nigerian version of Jerry John Rawlings. The man who endeared himself to the Ghanaian people with his “Boom” speeches as well as his charismatic style of leadership.. I can still recall the feeling and shouts of CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE everywhere i went. Anyways, to cut the long story short, it turned out that you were incapable of leading a cow, talk less of human beings. you have failed us and you shall receive the JONATHAN TREATMENT Do not bother casting your vote, cos it is an inexplicable waste of your time Prepare your hand over Notes. thanks for making our lives difficult #Neveragain |
