One of the key arguments offered by those who oppose tax exemptions for churches and religious organizations is that tax exemptions constitute a type of subsidy for these groups. Subsidies for religious organizations are unconstitutional, however, because they represent a means by which churches are able to obtain public, taxpayer support for their religious goals. |
In final year studying economics,i love this course like mad. |
chukwuinya: how true? Are u saying that ur savings is a fxn of ur consumption less ur income,if for any reason ur C is greater than ur Y then u r dissaving in other words u r eating deep into ur saving and sooner than later u r in debtI like this, kudos. |
Y=c+s, but S=y-c.If u hv #20 and u consume #10 for all your expenses, the #10 left is your saving. |

Economics don't lie.C=y+s and S=y-c were c=consumption, y=Income and s=saving. What am saying is that consumption depends on income and saving,on other hand saving is that part of income that is not consumed either income minus consumption. Did economics lie? |
While it isn't necessarily true that children love their mothers more than their fathers, it is true that children have more of a bond with their mothers than they do with their fathers. The reason for this is biological - from the moment that the egg is fertilized in the womb and becomes an embryo, the mother shares everything with her baby - the food she eats, the air she breathes, her blood and her very being. The baby hears the mother's heartbeat day and night and the mother's voice months before birth. To the newborn baby, the father is a stranger - she doesn't know him at all and has to learn who he is. Its only natural that a child favor the mother early on. |
Indications have emerged that the Federal Government has brokered a deal for the release of abducted 219 Chibok Secondary School girls in exchange for 18 boko haram chiefs. However, there was a snag last night as the sect said it would free only 30 of the girls who have been in captivity for 149 days. The sect had listed 18 of its key members, who it said should be freed from detention in exchange for the girls. Boko Haram sent the list of its commanders and the 30 girls to be swapped to a minister, who is also a lawyer, an elder statesman and a key facilitator of peace with the sect, Comrade Shehu Sani, who is also the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria, sources told The Nation. The list, it was learnt, was sent after secret talks between a government delegation and a Boko Haram commander, who is being detained in Kuje Prison in Abuja. But there was no confirmation of this last night. According the sources, the delegation, whose membership was kept under wrap, discussed with the commander, who is simply described as Umar. One of the sources said: “Some top officials met with Umar about two weeks ago in Kuje Prison to discuss issues connected to the fate of the Chibok girls. “We heard some inmates sharing this information that the sect might swap the girls with Umar and others. But all the details are still secret because Umar keeps to himself a lot.” But another source said: “The delegation had a fruitful negotiation with Umar, who is one of the highly-rated commanders of Boko Haram. The group assured Umar of a swap and he has been looking forward to it. “The sect has given a list of 18 of its members to be swapped with the abducted Chibok girls.” It was, however, gathered that the fresh negotiation has suffered a little setback because Boko Haram has agreed to set free only 30 of the remaining 219 girls in its custody. |
Following erstwhile Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Aminu Maigari return to office as directed by football governing body, FIFA, the Minister of Sports Tammy Danagogo has asked him to refrain from stepping a foot on the premises of the Glass House. Danagogo, who was said to have been shocked by news that Maigari had returned to the NFF office, stated that he didn’t tell him to resume work. “We asked all the parties, Maigari, Giwa and everybody involved in this crisis to stay clear of that place (Glass House) so that we can amicably resolve this issue,” Danagogo said. Up till [Tuesday] morning, the report I got from Musa Amadu was that they were out of that place. I don’t want them to go there to fight and it will be in the best interest of everybody involved to maintain the peace we have achieved up till this moment.” Maigari however insisted that he has not received such order and claimed his return was temporary, not on a full-time basis. “He (minister) did not tell me anything. But I just received a call now telling me to leave the office, which I have to comply and honour. I am not here to resume fully but for interim measure and even without anybody’s intervention I did not come here to stay. I know I must leave here,” Maigari stated. “We are in the process of completing our tenure and a new board will be in place very soon to takeover the running of the federation.” |
There is supposed to be a complete separation of religion and state, so why are religious institutions tax exempt? Many of these institutions have amassed extreme wealth but do not pay any taxes. Imagine if suddenly professional organizations did not need to pay taxes, there would certainly be a major backlash from people of lesser wealth but what's the difference? Religious institutions do not even play by the same rules as non-profit organizations so there is no reason for them to remain tax-exempt |
