ayyoshert: who on the thread could recall or heard of a certain convocation that was disorganised by Tony Fash and his boys, should be for 1995 or 1996 Graduands. It was said that important dignitaries, traditional rulers, proud parents and the brilliantly dressed VC and other Professors all seated in Amphi Theatre upon sighting the Warlike Tony Fash and his boys scampered out of the Hall in various exits. Some parents lost shoes, money and other valuables in a bid to escape, i even heard some parents with tears in their eyes were casting spells and raining curses on him for spoiling their day. OAU with radicalism, so proud i was a product.
It was the Medical Doctors Induction in 1996.And there was no pandemonium or parents running out and all that..It was Tony Fash and dem Obesere and immediately VC Omole saw them,he got into the car and left...so also the other principal officers...And why are you proud of such and act ? Your colleagues have worked tirelessly for 6 plus X years and the day of their joy and jubilation, you decided to distrupt the whole thing ?!

Why have go to a party in the first place ?? So i have told my sis in law so many times that if she thinks policing her husband is gonna stop him from cheating shes just wasting her time..
Foreign AffairsRe: Mob Strip Lady For Indecent Dressing by Gunzilla(m): 5:14pm On May 30, 2013
i used to think that this Bluetooth guy had some semblance of intelligence..Majority of African men are sub-human no doubt..So a woman is walking half naked, the answer is to rape her/strip her naked ?! Like wtf ! How about just minding your owne darn business and keep it moving ?! And this is not an isolated event..ive seen girls in skimpy skirts harrased in the streets of Lagos/Ibadan by Igbo traders, yanking the girls skirts and slapping their butts ! Such animals..and those same Africans will come to the western world and dare not try anything, cos they know that they azz going straight to jail.Animals

Punkass and who do you dress to impress ? Well go to more conservative societies and see how ladies dress even when they are more beautiful than most of you uglybitches who think exposing their bodies is the right way to go when it comes to fashion. If you wanna curb ra'p'e,then bitcches should learn how to dress like humans !
TV/MoviesRe: Game Of Thrones Vs Spartacus by Gunzilla(m): 7:00pm On Apr 05, 2013
Loll..really some people are comparing Spartacus with Game of Thrones ?? The budget of a couple of GOT episodes is enough to shoot the whole 3 seasons of Spartacus. No real TV/Movie buff would rate Spartacus of Game of Thrones.Spartacus was shot in "green screen technology" in its entirety. Not a single frame was shot outdoors.Compare that with Game of thrones that was shot in locations all over the world. Also look at the costumes on GOT,the different sigils of each house, the attention to detail ? Also, where else but in Spartacus would you have men fighting bare-chested in the dead of winter and during a raging snowstorm ? Abeg!
I have my issues with GOT having read all the books and i believe that it can never be a satisfying series(in fact i believe that this season may be the last for GOT),but in terms of the sheer cinematic experience, conversation and maturity i'll take it over Spartacus any day.
EducationRe: OAU Rated As Best University In Nigeria by Gunzilla(m): 5:13pm On Feb 12, 2013
Its so funny to see this "pissing contest" about whose school is the best in Naija. The fact is that among the first generation Unis in Naija, theres little or no difference. All this noise from Ife Boys is just so amusing.Believe me theres nothing special about the school.I'll still choose UI anyday. All those buildings..after Harmattan Semester and all the stress u wont even rememeber what they look like anymore. And a lot of these Awo Boys on here are so juvenile..the constant stupid "aluta" over every little issue. So has Nigeria been changed by all the Aluta in the middle of Osun State now..Shoud have just stayed in my UI jeje...
EducationRe: Is University Of Ibadan Any Better Than Covenant University? by Gunzilla(m): 5:17pm On Nov 16, 2011
First of all, some of these private university people posting here are kids, IjogzK,buguzee, lucarella et al,hence the insults and all,so people should just try to tolerate their posts.Like I said yesterday, private universities are too young to be compared with the public universities just yet.In 10-15 years, most likely they’ll surpass the public ones. But not just yet.Even at that, they’ll most likely be “niche” schools, focusing on particular disciplines and not “Mega Schools” like UI,Ife,Lag etc.
Like someone posted, most people in Nigeria will not send their kids,to public Universities in the years to come.Who’d want their kids to spend 6 years for a 4 year course just because of warring cult boys and striking lecturers ? Granted school was mad fun when we were there and we became better rounded individuals because of it,but tell that to parents that lost kids to cult boys.Innocent boys like the “Ife 9” that were just caught in the cross-fire.

Also the assertation that all students in Federal Universities are smarter and the private uni ones are dumber is just false. There is so much “settling” going on in all Federal/State Unis its unbelievable…a former colleague that went to LASU made 2:1 and this guy cannot draw a simple indifference curve! Whatever little respect I had for LASU before,I lost when I met that guy, its not that he made 3rd Class or 2:2 o…na 2:1 the guy make…haba!!

Furthermore, people discover themselves at different stages of their academic careers.Average students in secondary school can become super hot in College,so the fact that some kids did not do well in JAMB does not mean that they are dumb for life. One of the best students in my class came in with a JAMB score of 203…and she graduated in the top 5 of the class,no Ojoro!!

But,if public universities continue being funded the way they are at the moment, with students paying next to nothing,it’s a matter of time that the private schools take over. The same way private secondary schools have taken over bar a few still okay fed/state schools.Education should not be free.If you value Education, you must want to pay for it.This socialist idea that there should be “free/affordable” education is a laudable ideal, but it can’t stand the test of time.I know I’ll get slaughtered that I did not think about people that cant afford to pay for expensive education, but I believe that should at least be a scholarship scheme for indigent students that deserve it.

In the US, the ways you can pay for college is to get a scholarship(full or partial),get a loan or you/your parents pay for it. Nothing is free. You leave your state to go to school in another state, you pay more cos the people in that state have been paying taxes, and you did not.

Do you think that those cult boys will be so eager to kill each other if they took a student loan of N500k to go to school ? Or if parents were paying N150k every session, don’t you think they’d be more interested in their kids/wards grades every semester? Somebody told me one that the reason people leave newspapers on the London Underground Trains is because they are free. When you pay good money for something you value it more.
EducationRe: Is University Of Ibadan Any Better Than Covenant University? by Gunzilla(m): 6:57pm On Nov 15, 2011
Ok,these are my two cents…theres an adage that says that even if a kid as many new clothes as an elderly person,he can’t have as many ragged clothes as an elderly person(ragged clothes equating wisdom). The fact is that from all I’ve heard,CU is a good school, but comparing it with UI is a bridge too far, In the next ten to twenty years I see the well run private universities surpassing the public ones, but not just yet.
The fact is that the way education is being run in Nigeria is very wrong.Nowhere in the modern world is education free, but Nigerians want to pay next to nothing for good education. How can you hope to maintain good infrastructure that students will enjoy without paying good money for it ? I attended UI(1 year),then OAU,Masters in SOAS UK,so I know a lil bit what I’m talking about. The quality of the lecturers they have over there (UK) are definitely not better. The difference is how easy they have made life to be for students in terms of e-mailing lecture notes to you before each class, sending you PDF notes for each course at the beginning of the semester. Will all these be possible if each student pays $500 ? Mos def not.
While the general standards of Schools like UI,Lag,Ife is undoubtedly high, the constant strikes by lecturers,Aluta by silly students, epilectic power supply is eroding the greatness of these schoold.Imagine that I took a day off from Lagos,to Ife to go get a letter of recommendation from my Faculty and after 3 hour drive, got there, luckily meeting the Dean in the office, he wrote the letter, gave his secretary to type and in the midst of all that,NEPA stuck and I was duly informed that I should pray that power is restored that day by 3 pm otherwise i would have to come the next day. Short story I slept in Ife that night. When I needed a letter in UK,all I did was e-mail the Registrar’s office and I got the letter in the mail 2 days later.
On getting to Ife in my first year, there was Aluta because hall dues were increased from N20 to N120,when Hall dues were N600 in my one year in UI.How can you hope to maintain a hall with over a thousand students if each one is paying N20 ? I mean,Seriously ??
When the new generation banks came in the early 90s, the old banks were scoffing at them, but who’s laughing now? The new generation unis will soon eclipse and surpass the old ones the way things are going, but not just yet.
Nairaland GeneralRe: Do Grammatical Blunders (gbagauns, Ibons) Irritate You? by Gunzilla(m): 5:12pm On Nov 12, 2011
Ibrosaunks, from what you wrote on here,i'd guess that you are still a University student so i understand your enthusiasm, but the earlier you realise that the English language is not our first language and its just a medium of communication, the better for you.Like some people have pointed out, you've made several blunders yourself in your various posts. If you want to put yourself in a position to criticise, you have to "come correct" as the saying goes, and the excuse that you're typing on a mobile device will not avail you in this instance.
This is just an internet forum.People are not what they seem they are.Its just an avenue to vent on things that are bug us, we are not writing term papers nor dissertations, please get over yourself, and i mean that in a friendly way, wink
PoliticsRe: cc by Gunzilla(m): 2:56pm On Oct 17, 2011
My own contribution to this whole thread is that Igbo people, “be careful what you wish for”. The OP repeated oft lamented accusations against Igbo people…they like money too much, they are wicked etc, All these I have no problems with, The love of money is what makes the Igbo people they economic success that are today, It’s in their very nature and you can’t go against your nature. My only reservations about the Igbo people are that, to put it mildly they can be overbearing. I can’t get over the fact that growing up and strolling through the market, Igbo traders don’t see anything wrong in yanking your shirt just to get your attention in order to make a sale. They were and still are very rude and I can’t stand rude people.
Back to the topic, we all know that trade is the lifeblood of the Igbo people. Igbo people are dispersed all over every nook and cranny of the country. What will happen to all the Igbo traders that have made Lagos, Kano,Kaduna,Jos etc their home for the past 20,30 years ? Will they all have to go back home and leave all their businesses that they worked so hard to build? Will Biafra be able to absorb everybody? We all know that Nigeria is a seller’s paradise, The reason that Igbo people can sell products is that they can sell their goods and services to a teeming population. What happens when they can no longer do that? At best it becomes a case of International trade which comes with its own set of problems, at worst Igbo people are saddled with a lot of goods with no market to sell them to.
And then the issue of the oil. We all know it’s a gift and a curse. If managed properly, then the east will go on to be an example, but its not that easy. The minorities, politics and every other variable will come into play. And yet,the overdependence on oil revenue may stifle if not kill the much acclaimed ( and well earned) Igbo entrepreneurial spirit.Just my two cents.Hey,I’ve been wrong before. wink
PoliticsRe: Adenuga Moves To Take Over Nitel For $450m by Gunzilla(m): 4:14pm On Aug 02, 2011
[Ok, I definitely I'm not sure about him being a front but can you show me where he is sourcing his capital from?quote]

@Blink182

I know where he’s sourcing his capital from because I worked with for over 4 years. This baseless rumor of him being a front has been addressed ad nauseum in several fora .Didn’t EFCC investigate him exhaustively during the Atiku Saga ? At the end of the day the accusation was that it as PTF money that Atiku deposited in his bank that was used to buy the Telecoms Licence .And this was also not even substantiated. But do you see how the many story of his “fronting” are at dissonance with each other?
Its only in Nigeria where you need to allege a fact and it becomes gospel. So you want to know where he gets his capital from ? Why don’t you ask where MTN got their Capital from? Oh, they are from SA,so they are above reproach abi? Globacom is not a publicly traded company. It does not owe you or anybody any duty of disclosure. That is the law of the land the last time I checked.
Another cardinal principle of Common Law (Nigeria) is that if you allege something, you must prove it.Its not enough for you to call me a thief, you must prove I stole something. So if you or anybody else alleges that C1 is a ‘front’,the pray, tell, who is he that he’s fronting for o?! And what are the particulars of this “fronting” arrangement ?
PoliticsRe: Adenuga Moves To Take Over Nitel For $450m by Gunzilla(m): 3:04pm On Aug 02, 2011
This deal with Adenuga buying Nitel is probably not gonna happen.Beacuse I don’t see the government selling to Adenuga for several reasons. The first and the most obvious is that he is already the Second national carrier and I don’t see him owning the two national carriers. That effectively creates a monopoly and he becomes the top dawg in the Telecoms Industry. I’m sure MTN will protest vehemently against this and will surely even litigate and they would likely succeed. The second reason is that the arrogance of the man himself will not let the government sell to him because he is always flouting NCC directives even with Globacom, so what will stop him when he now owns the largest Telecoms coy in the country.
That being said however, whoever succeeds in acquiring Nitel and has serious money to invest,is gonna make a serious killing.NITEL’s value is way more than $450m.But therein lies the problem. It is too valuable that the government cannot get anybody to pay for its true worth. The government has been trying to sell it for over 10 years now with no success. From the 2IIL scandal in First Bank that cost Bernard Longe his job,to the consortium that came from the Netherlands and could not come up with the required money. Its too big a company.MTN would have jumped at the offer, but they too know that the Nigerian government will not be so stupid as to make the same mistake twice and place all the cards in the game in the hands of a SA company.
As Nateevs said,Nitel has copper network into virtually every neighbourhood in the country.MTN and Globacom still lease some lines from them in some some remote parts of the country that their networks don’t extend to.They have exchanges in virtually every region of Nigeria.(When I saw the one in Gumel,Jigawa State,I was surprised)

Lastly, people should stop all these infantile/beer parlour rumors(blink182) that Adenuga is a front.Front for who ?Abeg! angry
