A country where politicians keep looting public funds meant for the masses, is no hope. The bad thing is everyone is involved, they only complain when it's not in their favour That is why when they are in position they steal to infinity. Sad the way the country is set up. |
Sports › What I Did As A Kid In Order To Watch Bendel Insurance At The Ogbe Stadium by guobe(op): 8:12am On May 08 |
My late uncle was a diehard fan of Bendel insurance fc and he started taking me to watch their matches at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium when I was still a kid.
I was like 4 to 6 years then when I fell in love with Bendel insurance fc.
There was a time I even cried at the stadium with my uncle consoling me when Bendel insurance took on a rival club Bendel united fc.
A fight broke out in the match when Bendel united scored and fans of Bendel insurance invaded the pitch, police threw teargas to disperse fans and I started crying not because of the teargas but due to the fact that my club was losing which is Bendel insurance fc.
My uncle then used to take me to the stadium with him paying for his ticket and me as a toddler was free. As I became matured ,I was nolonger allowed to watch matches freely and so had to find a way to watch the matches at the stadium.
I didn't have money to watch the matches, so what I did was to make friends with the ball boys in the stadium and these ball boys will hide me inside the places where abandoned things were kept prior to kick off of the match and when the match will start I will now come out to the stadium to watch the matches.
We even scaled the huge fence just to watch the matches and there was a time that as I was just about to scale the fence, the boy that just scaled the fence was caught by a soldier so I had to retreat.
I even went to the away teams hotel then to follow their bus just to watch the match as I followed the team bus of Rangers International of Enugu then coached by the late Christian Chukwu .
Now ,the gates are thrown open free and people don't come to watch the matches of Bendel insurance fc. Life is really in stages.

The match takes place this Sunday in the coal city of Enugu with title contenders Enugu Rangers who are currently topping the table with just two games to the end of the season taking on the Adaa Bendel boys in Bendel insurance who are placed fifth on the log. When Rangers came to Benincity at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in the first round of the league, the match ended in a stalemate and I watched the best of the Nigerian league in that match as Rangers gave a very good account of themselves with free flowing football. Bendel insurance fc also did very well in that encounter too. Wishing my darling club Bendel insurance all the best as they confront the flying antelope in Enugu.

Earlier in the week, I had a conversation with a friend of mine who is a chemistry teacher and asked him if he taught his students short codes to remember elements in chemistry and he said he didn't know of it.
I told him that in my secondary school days, there was a short code we used and it made us to remember it .
The short code was He Has Large Brain But Can Not Offer Full Nine Subjects May All Silly Painters Stop Colouring Articles Kept Carelessly. The first letters represent the elements like Hydrogen, Hellium,Boron,Carbon,Nitrogen, Oxygen, Fluorine,Neon etc.
Other popular short codes were MRNIGERD for characteristics of a living thing with M for movement, R for respiration, For nutrition, I for irritability G for growth e for excretion, R for reproduction while D for death.
A lot of codes in those days that really helped,I wonder if this generation still make use of it.

He was one of the security men in the establishment.
He has been working there for years just to make ends meet as alot of bills need to be paid. His kids were still growing up with the eldest in the higher institution. He had to pay the school fees of his kids which has skyrocketed due to the policy of the Government in place from his meagre salary which does not take him home. He kept on struggling, going to work even as he has become old and weak.
He had to struggle as there would be no food on the table if he stops working despite getting old. Tragedy struck, he was found lying down on the floor unresponsive by a fellow security man who came to take over from him at the establishment. His body was already swollen. He died at the establishment.
May God not allow us to struggle at old age. May his soul rest in peace.
Adieu.

Politics › Re: Tribalism Is The Major Problem Nigeria Is Facing As A Country by guobe(op): 9:23am On May 02 |
Godfullsam: Nigeria is not suppose to be one country. The three major tribes in Nigeria don't share anything in common and so have no business being together as a country.
This is the bitter truth we all have been hiding from each other since independent. The likes of awolowo and sir Ahmadu Bello saw this and were bold enough to advocate for the dissolution of this entity. But a leader of a certain tribe, out of foolishness and greed, insisted that the country must remain one indivisible entity.
This tribalism is natural and it will continue to exist as long as the country remains one. Very valid point, all the major tribes in Nigeria are enemies pretending to be friends. |
Politics › Re: Tribalism Is The Major Problem Nigeria Is Facing As A Country by guobe(op): 7:41am On May 02 |
WizardOfNG: Bro, give precise example. Stop dancing around mischievously. Show what "competent non tribe" person has done that makes him/her a messiah.
What exactly has Obi achieved, as a leader, for an ethnic group of more than 30 million to be declaring him a Messiah and rescuer of Nigeria today, whereas they cursed him vehemently for failing as Governor of Anambra in the past?
Is that not the definition of tribalism you are talking about!
Same people will accuse Tinubu of "no achievement" to tout Obi the messiah, when he is the personification of leadership failure, whereas the brightest minds, in the finest institutions in the world, are creating dissertations about the critical and pivotal achievements of PBAT while Governor of Lagos.
Would someone like you ever praise Tinubu as the truth, per leadership, as an objective non-Nigerians, Gabriel Kuris, does below? No. Never.
You will keep insisting your failed kinsman Obi is best. That, precisely, is the "tribalism" tragedy of Nigeria where we all claim others are the problems whereas each and every one of us is the problem.
https://successfulsocieties.princeton.edu/publications/remaking-neglected-megacity-civic-transformation-lagos-state-1999-2012 A precise example is the fixing of your car, will you prefer your car to be fixed by an incompetent mechanic who is from your tribe or a competent mechanic who is from another tribe ? Tribalism killing Nigeria does not boil down to only politics alone but all works of life. I am not pro any politician as they are all thesame and only interested in their selfish interest. |
Politics › Re: Tribalism Is The Major Problem Nigeria Is Facing As A Country by guobe(op): 6:11am On May 02 |
WizardOfNG: @OP.
Your talk is the equivalent of flogging a dead horse to move. An exercise in futility.
When will you Nigerians understand the saying 'insanity is doing the same thing over and over again to expect a different outcome"?
Nigerians are very different people who have no business being together and , bar lord Lugard's amalgamation, would ordinarily form very different nations same way, for example, Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa etal are very different to Nigeria.
If the tribalistic predisposition of Nigerians has not changed for many decades now, at what stage will you people agree we should all go and organise our lives under full regional autonomy so that people of same ethnicity, or homogeneity of socio-economic ideas, can lead themselves as they wish as is the case with most successful and developed nations of the world? Absolutely spot on,you nailed it,Nigerians are really a different breed of people and they deserve the type of leaders they are getting. Most Nigerians have a very parochial mindset and do not deserve pity if they are suffering the consequences of it. |
