PoliticsNamadi Sambo Is A Nonentity In North West by gwales(op): 10:48pm On Mar 03, 2015
The North West is probably the most important
voting bloc in the March/April 2015 election; it’s
not only the home base of Major General
Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate
of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but also
that of the sitting Vice President, Muhammed
Namadi(na) Sambo. The North West is the home
of former Heads of State of Nigeria, Generals
Murtala Muhammed, Sani Abacha and Buhari
himself, as well as first Executive President,
Alhaji Shehu Shagari, and the first and only
Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
The North West, with seven states and 18.9
million registered voters offers the biggest prize
for any presidential candidate. So far, voters in
this geo-political zone have collected 15, 827,
842 permanent voters cards (PVCs) with which
they hope to dismiss President Goodluck
Jonathan this March. The votes of the North
West zone are particularly coveted by every
presidential candidate.
Unfortunately, the people’s will in the impending
elections is being subverted by the activities of
Vice President Namadi Sambo who has
descended with huge bags of money to bribe
voters in the North West. There can never be a
free and fair election where politicians seek to
influence how people vote by giving them
money, whether it is hard earned or stolen from
the public treasury.
Sambo is a lightweight politician who has no
significant following in the North West. His
attempt to create a political base made him
prop up Alhaji Tanko Yakasai to contest the
chairmanship of the Arewa Consultative Forum
(ACF). Having utterly failed, Yakasai formed the
obsequious Northern Elders Council (NEC), a
shadowy group confined to periodic issuance of
press release in support of the Jonathan
presidency. Of course, Yakasai, on account of
his bread and butter politics, can never be
elected to the chair of ACF.
Sambo’s problem in the North West flows
directly from his inability to exercise any
meaningful influence on the Jonathan
presidency. Sambo is a perfect example of a
spare tyre. In six years, Sambo hasn’t been able
to attract any meaningful project to the North
West. The so called independent power project
being built for Kaduna is stillborn. The attempt
to revive the Kaduna textile plants has
floundered. The so-called Abuja-Kaduna single
railway, which Labaran Maku repeatedly vowed
would be commissioned in 2014, and on which
Sambo staked his reputation, has remained a
white elephant.
The simmering rivalry between Sambo and Sule
Lamido, Governor of Jigawa State on one hand
and on another level between him and Ibrahim
Shehu Shema, Governor of Katsina State, over
who among the three should run with Jonathan
in 2015, also damaged Sambo’s standing. Each
of the two north western governors had at one
time or the other been touted as possible
replacement for Sambo.
In Kaduna, the Sambo boy, Muktar Ramalan
Yero, has failed to distinguish himself as a
serious governor and is headed for defeat in
both the presidential and gubernatorial
elections. Early this year, Yero’s frustration with
the opposition’s challenge culminated in his
being heard on tape threatening the well being
of Nasir El-Rufa’i and APC supporters. After
promising Jonathan two million votes, the
President was surprised to discover that not
many people turned up to listen to him when he
went to Kaduna to campaign. This explains the
PDP desperation to use obscene amount of
money to buy the loyalty of voters.
Even in the presidency, Sambo is not taken
serious and Anyim Pius Anyim, the Secretary to
the Government of the Federation, is reportedly
more powerful than him. Sambo doesn’t pull his
weight at all. At the PDP presidential campaign
rally in Nasarawa, he was told point blank that
he will not be given the party’s presidential
ticket in 2019. In an organised political clime,
Sambo would have been given the opportunity
to make that stunning announcement himself.
Obama may not be inclined to having Joe Biden
clinch the Democratic Party ticket for the 2016
presidential run, but he dares not announce
that, least of all in the heat of a re-election
campaign. Sambo isn’t a leader; he’s a follower
and will remain so.
Sambo doesn’t seem understand that the
essence of a joint ticket is to be able to
occasionally sway things in favour of one’s geo-
political zone, or at least achieve balance. The
role of a Vice President goes beyond flapping
one’s starched babban riga and following in the
footsteps of the principal. Even when the
membership of the so called national
conference was skewed against the Muslims,
Sambo couldn’t do anything. The Sultan had to
lead a delegation to Aso Villa to complain to the
President that Muslims were under-represented
and all Sambo could do was to join in the photo
session, and despite Jonathan’s promise to
announce fresh nominations to ensure fair
representation, nothing was ever heard about
the matter again. Yet, Jonathan has promised to
implement the decisions of the national
conference if he’s elected and you ask what
benefit is there in the resolutions of a
conference heavily tilted against Muslims?
The North West wants a vice president who’s
faithful to the country and not some clueless
president. Sambo should be loyal to the
country, not Jonathan. The clerics, traditional
rulers and other special interest groups are free
to collect every dime Namadina Sambo hands
them, but they should ask themselves why he
didn’t give them this awesome amount of
money in 2013 or 2014. They should also ask
themselves what job Sambo has done to earn
this breathtaking wealth and if there is no clear
answer, then they should take the money and
vote according to their conscience. If the North
West’s voters settle for Sambo’s money instead
of the free and fair elections promised by this
government, then our people are damned.

PoliticsOver 10,000 PDP Members Dump Party For APC In Katsina by gwales(op): 4:30pm On Mar 02, 2015
At least 10,000 members of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, from five local
government areas of Daura Emirate in Katsina
State have defected to the All Progressives
Change, APC.
The decampees were from Daura, Baure,
Sandamu, Maiadua and Zango local government
areas.
Receiving the decampees at a grand reception
organised in their honour in Daura, APC’s acting
Chairman in the state, Alhaji Abdulkadir Nasir,
said the decision of the decampees to join the
APC was a sign of victory to the party in the
state.
According to Nasir, the decampees made a wise
decision for joining APC ”because PDP is now
losing grounds and has nothing to offer to
Nigerians”.
He also assured both old and new members of
the party equal treatment and advised the new
entrants to feel at home in the party.
Speaking earlier, the Spokesman of the
decampees, who is also the immediate past
Commissioner for Health in state, Ahaji Aminu
Jamo, said they decided to dump PDP and join
APC to “rescue Nigeria from its present
predicament.”
He accused PDP of lacking focus, quality
leadership and stressed the need for change to
move Nigeria forward.
Jamo called on Nigerians to vote massively for
the APC Presidential Candidate, Maj.-Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as ”an
honest and credible candidate”.
In his remarks, the APC Governorship Candidate
in the state, Alhaji Aminu Masari, assured the
people of the state that he would not betray
them, if elected into office.
He also pledged to transform Katsina State
within six months of his tenure, if elected.

PoliticsEkiti Rigging Tape: You Are On Your Own PDP Tells Fayose, Moisture, Obanikoro by gwales(op): 9:13pm On Feb 28, 2015
The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic
Party has distanced itself from the ongoing
controversy over the Ekiti rigging tape in which
some senior members of the party were heard
planning how to rig the governorship election
held in the state on June 16 last year.
In the recording, Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele
Fayose; a former Minister of State for Defence,
Musiliu Obanikore Obanikoro, former Senator
Iyiola Omisore and other individuals were heard
discussing with a serving Brigadier General of
the Nigerian Army, Aliyu Momoh, on how to use
the military to rig the election in the state.
Most of the actors involved in the saga admitted
there was a meeting, but they all denied that
rigging was discussed.
In an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES,
the spokesperson of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, said
those mentioned in the scandal did not carry
out the rigging scheme on behalf of the party.
He said the party does not want to get involved
in the controversy triggered by the leaked
recording and would rather prefer that those
mentioned in connection with the matter clear
themselves.
He said the PDP as a party did not ask anyone
to rig on its behalf and will never be engaged in
electoral malpractices.
“Any tape whether real or imaginary can be
concocted in this digital world; we don’t know
what is real and what is not,” Mr Metuh said. “I
also believe that the actors in their personal
capacity will be able to talk about what really
happened.
“As a political party, we have never engaged in
planning or getting involved in any conspiracy to
rig elections or alter the will of the people,” Mr.
Metuh said.
He also said the party has so far demonstrated
maturity in elections held in the last two years.
Mr. Metuh admitted that he had not listened to
the recording but wondered whether the tape
was authentic at all.
“We had elections in five states in the last two
years, PDP won in only one state; how comes its
just that one that we won, that a tape is
suddenly surfacing to say we planned rigging.
“Why did we not plan rigging in Edo, Ondo,
Anambra and Osun? How comes the only one
that we won is the one they want to tarnish? It
is a calculated attempt to sway the minds of
Nigerians that the PDP is not capable of winning
in a free and fair election.
“Our people are even raising the fact that we
were rigged out in Osun; but we are not
engaged in propaganda, we are not engaged in
manufacturing tapes, We won election in Ekiti
state because of the love of our party, and the
massive support that our gubernatorial
candidate, Ayo Fayose, enjoys in the entire
state.
The PDP spokesperson said the Ekiti tape saga is
just another propaganda by the APC, saying if
the APC is sure of the authenticity of the tape, it
should approach the law courts to seek redress.
” In this era of campaign, where you have a lot
of propaganda, anybody with any concrete
evidence can go to either the law enforcement
agencies or the law courts to seek redress.
“For us, we are more involved in the campaign
than propaganda; our first thought actually is
that it is simply just propaganda, it is only the
court that can decide if on the matter of Ekiti
election, just like the tribunal and court of
appeal have decided. If they think there is fresh
evidence, they can go to court,” he said.

PoliticsAbdullahi Muhammad Who Tore His PDP Card Beaten To Pulp By Hoodlums by gwales(op): 10:20am On Feb 28, 2015
The other PDP party member who openly tore his PDP membership card has been beaten to stupor.

Abdullahi Muhammad, the senior special assistant on security to the governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo publicly tore his party membership card on Tuesday morning of the 17th day of February, shortly after Nigeria’s former president and PDP party founder, Olusegun Obasanjo publicly tore his PDP membership card.

Shortly after he tore his card, the state governor Ibrahim Dankwambo accused his special assistant, Abdullahi Muhammad of seeking a loan for his mortgage and now this:

Here is SSA Abdullahi Muhammad’s accocunt of his ordeal in the hands of thugs suspected to have been sent by the PDP:

“I was attacked by a group of hoodlums numbering 3 who accosted me at a car wash near Buba Shongo along Bauchi road in Gombe. While they were hitting me one of them was shouting on top of his voice saying “why must you antagonize the Governor (Dankwambo)”. It was then I realized their mission! They drove in a car with reg number BLG 142 AA.

IF I HAVE TO PAY THE SUPREME PRICE, FOR MY PEOPLE TO GAIN SUCCURE, SO BE IT. I DECAMPED TO APC AND NO GOING BACK. IF HIS EXCELLENCY FEELS KILLING ME IS WHAT WILL RETURN HIM COME 11TH APRIL, THE MASSES WILL DECIDE HIS FATE EVEN AFTER MY DEMISE.”
