omoharry: Thank you for telling them the truth.
you always spew rubbish like a ph00l man....so 98% of nigerians based abroad esp u.k are ashamed to return home.the shame of coming back empty handed and seeing your mates that you left back in nigeria doing exceptionally well is dehumanizing.
life abroad is hard....very hard And life in Nigeria is very EASY, very EASY abi most nigerians abroad are doing silly jobs that they would never have done if they were here.. That menial job dey build houses for Nigeria. Can a someone who flip burger in Nigeria build a house with the meagre pay monthly ? so many of them work in serious enslaving conditions plus the huge tax and bills one pays abroad Have you lived in a first world country before naija is a good country if one has a means of livelihood... A country that has zero security, a country where abnormalities are normal, a country where lives are taken for granted, a country where you worship polithiefcians like they are God, a country where education is a scam, a country where there is no future for the graduates, a country where you can be kidnapped, killed, or used for rituals without the government compensating the family of the person that died, a country where you can be raped and to get justice, OMG don't even let me start talking on that. The list is endless anybody that earns 150k and above a month in this country is comfortable Not when you are living in Lagos, with the high cost of living. we are happy here..abroad is over hyped jor...dudes there are seeing serious things...desh doesn't envy them one bit. We want you to be happy.... Abroad is not in any way over hyped. its a pity that most nigerians especially those in rural areas think that once you touchdown at jfk or heath-row you start picking money....its crazy.. That's not good at all... It was Hollywood that changed their mentality. More reason why most people think USA is the only country in the world |

Goztino: Lol, I thought they said we can carry two bags of 23kg each? TOTAL OF 46KG
So, I fit carry 17kg garri 3kg dried fish 3kg stock fish Thats 23kg in one bag,
Then the remaining 23kg go be clothes and other miscellaneous then the bag I go carry for hand go contain some personal things.
All I know is that all the required free kg will be filled completely with foodstuffs and other necessary things.
Well, I have never travelled before by flight, so I dont know how things are done there They don't weigh handbags. You can put Maggi and other ingredients in the bag. Also, it's advisable to use ghana must go instead of ecolac. |

TIPS FOR STARTERS
1. I agree with everyone here on the need to read from page 1 to the end. you must do this, and please get a note book and a pen to take notes on some vital points. yeah i understand its difficult, but trust me ITS WORTH IT. Another way is this read like 1-60, jump to 100-160 then 200-260 most importantly 280 -this page covers the testimonies of 2018 applicants.......
2. Learn to take notes and be mindful of a few misguided infos.
3. Now, your application can be as cost effective as possible. i advice you use uni-assist but if you dont have the money , u must diligently search for schools that are not registered with uni-assist (note: most schools are)
4. To send your documents , asides DHL, UPS , FEDEX you can use NIPOST. as against the general opinions here, ppl have advised to ignore NIPOST. yes i understand their stands but the truth is NIPOST works and works well, but you must take this WARNING.... it takes 2weeks to get ur parcel to germany using NIPOST and the fee is less than 1000 naira, and make sure you use the REGISTERED MAIL option . i advise you give enough time to the deadline, for me i sent my applications three weeks or more to the deadlines
5. That you have a second class lower is not a barrier, all you need is a little more determination.
6. Make sure your motivational letter is good.
7. Please respect the views of those who have had success here.
Viel Glück |

For those worried about life in germany, this is a post from someone in germany who relocated to Germany 6 years ago (2013)
"Guys relax, even with 60 euro u can survive monthly. THIS IS AN OLD POST O I just shared his experience for us to learn.
More over u think u will have time for 3 square meal a day? food is the cheapest thing here except if you cook in your hostel. The most expensive thing here is accomodation not food full chicken(superhunn) is 2 euro=420, rice sef no reach 1 euro here.
If ur garri fininsh just go aldi or markauf ask of grease na 25 cent just by 4 if u like swallow that one na still 1 euro, food is cheap here my man.
The only issue is there education is intensive, and u need alot of self study so u guys shouldnt worry about surviving.
alles klar"
what you should be bothered about is been excellent in your studies |

Some useful tips by dolpaz
According to one of our guys who is already in germany, Emeka..its advisable to buy your stuffs from Nigeria. Jeans and clothes are expensive. most especially phones and gadget. mind you, the prices will be in euros. also, go with alot of shoes cos according to him, there are no cobbler in germany. shoes and winter jacket are expensive as well. i think around 50-70 euros. so imagine spending 12,000 naira to buy a single jacket when u can get it for less at yaba or idumota.
Go with enough Garri and some food items as well. though i heard some kenyans inport stuffs that looks like Garri/semo.. its called griese or so.
You save cash if you like chicken and wine/beer, cos those are the cheapest food/drinks in germo. I also heard its better you go with an android phone so you can access your student portals easily.
As for Jobs, the first step is: do u speak german? it goes a long way to determine the kind of job you will get. also, which city are you gonna be staying. some cities are competitive and expensive like Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund and Stuttgart. you can get a good student job cos your visa allows that, but understanding deutsch is the key to getting a good one.
If not, u may end up getting a menial job, but it will be enough to sustain you. coupled with your blocked account cash which you can live on. 650 - 700 euros per month.
Watch ur spending habit. Be mindful of pretty german ladies. (they like ice cream and chocolate, each cost as much as 20euros). if you are so conversative, you may be able to live on 200euros per month excluding accomodation. |

Goztino: I no use 1000 euro bro, I used the average of 400 and 1000 euros which are the two figures mentioned and the average is 700 euro. Then coming to flight, it depends on your location. Some part like Nuremberg and Hannover even cost more than 300k sef depending on airline. A bag of garri, dried Egusi, palmoil, salt, Ogbonor, dried fish and okporoko, Abacha etc (I for put ogiri shaa but make I just leave am to avoid public disgrace) coupled with all these shoes and clothes go near 70k.
my figures na just rough estimate not the exact figure. I never even travel pass Nigeria before And dem go allow you carry a bag of gaari enter the plane I don't think so The day i would leave Nigeria for Germany, i would make sure i buy 12 packets of Maggi cos e be like say oyibo no dey eat Maggi like that |

Goztino: which means, judging from information I have gathered so far, In rough estimate for a low budget Nigerian , this is what you should hold if you are planning to enter Germany for education.
1. Block Account = #3,600,000 2. Flight fee = #300,000 3. Pocket money = #285,000 (if you have block account) 4. Money for clothes and foodstuffs = #70,000
TOTAL = #4,250,000 The chief analyst is at it again Pocket money should be 400,000 plus.... €1000 multiply by the conversion rate. Flight fee shouldn't be more than 200,000, highest 250,000 Money for clothes and foodstuffs... How many clothes you wan buy? 5 jeans is okay boss If you go to where the Chinese people dey sell clothes for Lagos, tell them you wan buy 5 jeans and shirts at dozen price. That should reduce the money you already have in mind to spend. |

What makes them different tbh lol? I have work experience, but it’s in form in internships not real work. I’m planing to solidify my work experience there in good companies when I begin studies. You have a list of good companies I can target in terms of our field and what programming language is most preferred I’m learning C and C++ now. pompido: Berlin gives 3 years (as far as I know) but I am sorry I do not have a list like that.
Kiel gives 1year and will accept 4k euros plus payslip from some work for renewal every year. They also give 2 years for EU blue card while Hamburg gives 4years for EU blue card.
Passau gives 1year and will demand for another 8k euros to be blocked for renewal. People switch to SL at this point.
I think Munich gives 2years but I am not sure.
Others can drop what obtains in their cities for a better list Thanks for your swift response sir. Berliner, ottersberger, dolpaz and willy2000 Come and contribute your own o |

chimax1: bro pls do you have any info from the previous thread on the city of Lübeck. Kindly share if you do. Am hoping to head to the city by God's grace This is from Eke40seven post
Fachhochschule Lübeck FHL is a relatively small school and new, about 10 years (ranked between 160-190 in Germany). You can check out their standings on daad or che rankings (officially recognised in Germany) for the performance of your specific course in relation to other schools in Germany
From the info, I was able to gather the city is small (about 210k population), fairly good, nice ports, industries sprinkled around. The foreigners there love it.
There is a train route straight to Hamburg from Lübeck. It shouldn't be up to 20 minutes away (safe estimate) as Hamburg is about 25 miles away. Hamburg is a very big commercial and industrial metropolis in that region (1.7 million people).
There are good reviews on the city. Some members in Hamburg can throw in more light on life there You shouldn't have problem getting Jobs from what I gathered. Styles2009 contribution
You'll still need to buy like a half ticket to Hamburg as Lübeck ticket doesn't cover and reach Hamburg.
As for job to survive as a student, you need German not certificate one but speaking and writing, this would get you a student job in cities like Hamburg, I can't speak for small cities. You can contact jaydeemourg, Touchflex and olatondo for more information. They did their masters degree in Lübeck i think Viel Glück |

Info about btu cottbus by Eke40seven
The school is an OK school. They have a good number of international students; While Cottbus (pronounced ‘Kotboos’) is a major transportation town in the former East Germany with some number of industries. The city is very close to the polish borders but relatively isolated from any German city. The other major cities in the area, Dresden, Potsdam, Leipzig and Berlin are all 1 hour ride (less using ICE trains) away. They have a population of about 100-105k. If you think that German is the only language you will hear or read, then bros think twice, Sorbs (an indigenous ethnic minority) language is also officially recognized and spoken.
Before I will go into details about survival, you should note that Cottbus is in the former East and the economic situation is inferior to what is obtainable in the west. The east and west just became one country after the unification of 1990 after being under a different system of government for over four and half decades (capitalism in the west and socialism in the east). At unification, the situation in the east was a sharp contrast to situations in the west and things became worse even immediately after unification due to reasons too numerous to mention here.
However, 24 years after, the east is still playing catch up (although the situation has improved markedly). Currently the wages in the east is about 70-75% lower than in the west and unemployment in many places stands at about 10-11% as against 6% nationally.
On the good side, things like food, rent and many other commodities are relatively cheap compared to the west. I heard that if you can tie down a job, as a Naija guy, you shouldn’t bother about survival. You could even save more than someone in the exorbitant Munich.
However, language is a very big advantage here in the east because English speakers are much less.
On racism, I heard that apart from people looking sheepishly and wondering how you painted your skin black and what planet you are from (there are relatively less foreigners in the east), racism is not too common in Cottbus as against what is generally perceived about the Ossis (Easterners), however, don’t go around looking for one because you shall surely find. |
