NaijirianKing: The main reason I brought up the cross was to contrast it with what we call the 'agbada.' Specifically pointing out that the agbada was indigenous to Africa and pre-dates Islam in a similar way to how the cross pre-dates Christianity.
The agbada is the traditional wear of Africans and was later copied by Arabs who took it from Africans on the continent. Arabs are merely Africans who left the continent and mixed in with Eurasian groups and created a multi-racial group we now call "arabs."
We Africans to an extent think we were just naked, with no cultural or religion, and everything came from the outside. This is untrue and is seen from the fact that Arabs actually took their traditional style of dress from Africans on the continent. The few things we can give ourselves credit for, we need to give ourselves credit for.
A very informative piece of work as usual.
This is the kind of stuff this section should be know for.
NNEWIsuper: seriously imo women seem to be odd amongst other igbo women, they can marry from zamfara or sokoto....uko di juru na ala imo, maybe that is why it is so...honestly i respect Ebonyi and Enugu women better than imo women bc they have more control and able to marry within their state
She was also very light skinned yellow and skinny.
Very quiet and dont talk much.
Her brother was my friend and that was how i found out but did not give it much thought.
NaijirianKing: Many powerful African Americans have Igbo lineage, this is advantageous if used correctly and especially if these people are brought into the "global Igbo collective." He should do a tour of all Igbo states, hosted by Ohaneze or any other umbrella body.
Nwanne, i appreciate u so much.
Nwafor Igbo are hard to find these days.
Too many efulefu.
This is where Eze Eri should take action.
This is big fish and Igbo are still sleeping as usual.
nnamdijonathan: Agbada/Dashiki is a popular attire in west Africa. The only thing that differentiates the Yoruba own from that of the Hausa is the cap. The Igbo men tend to dress more like the Hausa people with the Hausa cap. The Isi Agu is unique and belongs to Ndigbo alone which a great thing.
Agbada and Jellof Rice share same origin and that is Senegal.
Senegal should be named cultural capital of West Africa.
Igbo are west africans and thus, have as much right as Yoruba and Hausa tro wear Agbada.
