RexTramadol1: It may seem as though you are the one feeling inferior though
You may not leave the shores of Nigeria and be successful, success is relative.
Whether he travels or not, so far he enjoys his life to the fullest… it has no bearing at all where he has been to.
Traveling doesn’t equate to being successful. Do you care to mind these guys who know nothing? They don't even know a shit about life abroad. Some of them don't even have an international contact from a family member yet they're acting like they know a thing. Thanks to nairaland. |

I think you guys need to eradicate the mindset that all Nigerian girls are after your money. Most but not all My bad, I wasn't referring to you, I was to the girl in the story who etched after her boyfriend's brother. |

USA remains the super power after the collapse of Soviet Union. Hitler had already defeated Russia in WW2 but his pride he stopped his soldiers from going to Moscow but chilled and went to Stalingard which was a mistake. China is there you are talking of Russia. China with 3 billion people and crazy arsenal. Russia is just a chest beater n noise maker. If they use nuke the world will use nuke on them too. Who loose? Wow! Desusi: Most people used to think that when you have people abroad your problems are over.particularly parents or siblings. Little did they know that the person in abroad is facing a new breeds of problem, while struggling for money. Most of these peoples that travel would be struggling to get the ticket money used, some would want to settle cooperative. Alas,l once cried when l que for bread in Belgium. I remembered using my whole day job money to buy food in Brussels. On point! That's a nice one from you. Another thing which I noticed is that most people who boast of having families abroad don't even know which state or city the person resides in. I once asked a boaster "where in the US? " and she went numb, she was like "erm erm, America is big, I can't remember ". Some don't even know the difference between New York and London. The pride is a bad thing. |

Hanndye: Come to think of it, I think there is something that awes the human psyche about the word TRAVEL. Just make a mention of it where ever to, people gaze at out. People even get named after where they have been to. Neil Armstrong was not admired because the moon is better than earth, just the further he went. I think it's because we all all sojurners anyway. It's an innate thing like many others. I love this. |

ben2rhymes: U must have had conversations with many many people who made reference to relatives in local places…. ‘Like one of my uncle in the village ehn’….. but u won’t reason it Once u hear someone mentions a relative overseas, U unsecured mind, ur inferior conscience would remind u that u don’t have person in abroad and would tag it pride
Oga, you need to work on yourself… you’re the problem
One reason rich people avoid poor old friends, there are certain utterances you make in discussions with them base on your wide experience, they’d see it as pride and might directly or indirectly kill you for it, but the rich ones would see it as a mere discussion and see it as topic for deliberations.
Again, Oga build yourself…don’t be Myopic Why are you so irritating? Didn't you read my post properly? I said the pride is what I'm pointing out. Nobody exhibit pride upon having an uncle in the village. I find it quite irrelevant when some people mention their families abroad for no sensible reason. Someone will be like, my aunty in US used to breathe. So, something like that happened on Saturday, and I just had to scream to this dude who spoke constantly of an aunty in Arlington, Texas, that I have families in the Houston, London, St Paul elsewhere too. It was so annoying, he over did it. He would be like, my aunty in Arlington used to poo. That was what made me create this thread. I still can remember back in my school day, how a teacher began mentioning her son in the US, until she asked those of us with families abroad to signify by raising up our hands. I didn't because I found it so stupid. This woman had the gut to ask the raised hands where their families resided abroad. She later noticed my hands were down, and knew I was being stubborn. So she asked me "you, no, you don't want to talk right". At the end she won since I conceded and replied her "my *** lives in Houston, United states of America. So, yesterday's experience brought back the memory, and I created this thread. Now you understand. |

You're the one viewing it negatively.
I am sure if you have a relative abroad who is doing well, people close to you would know how proud you are of them. You're only sure in your own reasoning. I have family members who are doing great abroad. Yet I have never for once boasted of them publicly. |

rickleye: It’s a social status thing. It used to be those in the village would say their son was in the big cities, Lagos , Ibadan or Kano. When people migrated to cities, saying I have someone in those cities no longer has that same impetus . So those same people say lagbaja is in Us or Canada. I have however noticed that people in public service and private service see it differently. Those in public see it as an accomplishment , a sense of pride whilst those in private see it as a byword. I love this. |

Sweetvie: Yeah. Africa mindset. They believe abroad is heaven and when you get there money is waiting for you. Like my friend story... He like this girl coz he thought the girl is responsible, open shop by herself and she is hard working... So they started getting a little closer to each other (no relationship yet or intimacy) until one day his brother called him and his phone was with d girl.. she saw it was international call. To cut it short, my friend told her it was his brother that called that he in usa... Do you know this girl copied the number and message my friend bro... Telling that one she like him, that she want to marry him( after chatting for some days) My friend brother then called his brother that the girl is not someone he can marry and show him all there chat. What a bad girl! I hear people say that all Nigerian girls are only after money, do you think in line with them? |

OboOlora: Siddon there de form envy U nor know say when dem send 10times of $100 to them, na Ghana must go u go use pack the naira lol
Let them pride in peace o, Ko easy! The last time I checked, I found out that people envy the things which they don't have. So I have no reason to envy them for their proud attitudes. And it's not the case of sending money, firstly you should know that nobody sends 1000 dollars home, and if true, then maybe in families with very poor financial situations. But the point remains that most of these proud people have never received even a bottom dollar from their families abroad. Some have never even spoken to the families abroad, they just know that an uncle is in Canada, a cousin is in Ireland etc. Yet they pride themselves as if they won a gold medal or something. Most of those who communicate regularly with their families abroad never exhibit such pride. I hope you understand me now? Thank you. |

People in the village pride themselves in having relatives in Lagos, port harcourt, asaba, Abuja etc. most Nigerians see whites as superior hence the phenomenon. But when they replace Aba with Canada, you start feeling somehow.
My brother, you are the problem, not them.
Change your mindset. Lol! Thank you for your opinion, but that's not the case, I'm talking of the pride that comes with it, and the inferiority complex that is bestowed upon those who don't have families abroad, or those who refuse to mention having families abroad. At least, nobody sees you less for not having a family in Aba, so it's no mindset. I have families abroad, but I never mentioned it, or look less on others who did not. And I never feel proud. I hope you can understand now. Thank you. |
