huptin:Nigeria at that time was the biggest debtor nation in Africa, So big was the debt we owed that even the US, UK and Germany refused to borrow us money. Obasanjo wished to get rid of Nigeria’s debt. So he hosted World leaders and begged them to help us clear our debt, but they didn’t so he had to hand the case over to Okonjo-Iweala. Okonjo-Iweala was also working her World Bank connections, to have Nigeria reclassified as an IDA-only country from a blend country, officially receiving both IDA (International Development Assistance) money and IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) commercial loans. In fact, the last time that Nigeria received any IBRD money was in 1993. With the help of a research paper written by Todd Moss, Scott Standley and Nancy Birdsall of the Center for Global Development, Nigeria was so reclassified, which made it much easier for the Paris Club to grant debt relief. The next time the G8 finance ministers met, Nigeria was prepared. Okonjo-Iweala took on the job of persuading her old World Bank boss, Caio Koch-Weser, now at the German finance ministry, while president Obasanjo also worked the ministers in concert with Gordon Brown. The official announcement emerged at the end of June: Nigeria would pay roughly $12 billion to settle, once and for all, its $31 billion in Paris Club debt. Nigeria will be the first country to buy back Paris Club debt below par, and the enormous reduction in its debts will be a lasting legacy of Okonjo-Iweala's term as finance minister. During her first term as Finance Minister of Nigeria, Ngozi arrived at her desk to find a weighty $30 billion owed. With oil prices on the rise, she stopped having to plead with her creditors and bought a massive chunk of her own debt so she could cancel it herself. As if to make a point. She became a legend in that moment. Humor and joy spill out of her, which can belie the fact that she’s got one of the toughest jobs on the planet — how to ensure that the tens of billions of dollars earned each year in oil receipts go into productive usage, like agriculture, infrastructure, health and Rd. Come on, how can an educated person say that a retired Military leader without a college degree, was responsible for getting rid of Nigeria’s debt. What did he know about economist. Ngozi was an Economist, a world Bank fellow and she cleared Nigeria’s debt, not the Retired soldier who never attended a University (Just like Buhari). Get your points accurately next time . |
Obagreatdatoye:I think it is you who is clueless, appreciate the best best thing that ever happened to Nigeria, you Buhari sympathiser. |
eventainment:Don’t mind the man he is nothing but a buharist! |
colestephan86:Oniro’ When o When did I say such? |
HarshBitterTrut:What was God fucking doing when Satan took over, or is satan also an Almighty? |
360degreess:Being a Freemason is no top secret they do declare it openly, and who told you it is only us president that join societies even in Africa here and Europe, Asia, Australia etc, they do join secret societies. Stop being morbid, Biden is 79 years old, and had always being a dullard even in his School days. Moreover he had a brain disease, you should also remember the death of his wife and two children. Who on earth will remain normal after the demise of his 45 years old son? Learn to think like an educated person not like an illiterate. Biden is not mentally OK that is it. He might see ghost doesn’t make him an illuminati or Freemason. Freemasonry is different from what you think it is, if it were evil, then it members won’t declare themselves publicly, more only 15 US president were free masons. |

MindHacker9009:You mean Jesus is the owner of more than 100 million Muslims and more than 5 million traditional worshippers? Nigeria belongs to either God or the devil but not Jesus. Abi you never hear Jesus talk say ’my kingdom is not part of this world’. |
huptin:Eh eh, I like your backings, seems I have learnt a new truth today. But I will carry out some findings. Thank to you. But at the same times there is no concept as ’Lucky’ in government rather I think we should acknowledge the truth, what if he was Buhari’s kind of person, don’t you know he would have destroyed Nigeria within 3 years. Or what about other Country with good economies, would you say their country is good because Their predecessors left some money in reserves . Let me remind you that even Obasanjo met Reserves money and Saving when he took office, So that is not a point. Even Buhari met reserves and savings but look where we are today. Please strike your points accurately next time. Yaradua was the best of all Four men! |
tommy589:Nairaland Shen gbo’ bayi? Toba ya ema ni Kini kan kini Kan! |
huptin:Wrong! Obasanjo did not pay off Nigeria's debt, rather his Minister for Finance Mrs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was responsible for all the efforts that led to Nigeria’s debt cancellation. Our debt was 30 billion dollars and 18 billion us dollars was forgiven thanks to Ngozi Okonjo iweala . It was not paid! So tell me how he was lucky |
gidgiddy:I think is he talking of ’financial economy’ |
tommy589:Ehen, today na 415 oo, shey make i modify, am? |
Obamaofusa:I don’t think so, his was a different case, take the US for example, Biden is just in his First year in office, yet the whole economy is in Chaos. What about when Buhari first got elected? The price of goods increased in his first year. I just think Yaradua is an exception. |
One of these men could have changed Nigeria but... Petrol Obasanjo: met it at 20 naira left it at 75 naira Yaradua: met it at 75 naira left it at 65 naira Johnathan: met it at 65 naira left it at 87 naira Buhari: met it at 87 naira current price is 165 naira Dollar Obasanjo: met it at 85 naira/ 1 dollar left it at 125 naira Yaradua: met it at 125 naira/ 1 dollar left it at 170 naira Johnathan: met it at 170 naira /1 dollar left it at 200 naira Buhari: met it at 200 naira/ 1 dollar current price is 583 naira Rice ( 50 kg) Obasanjo: met it at 2,500 naira left it at 4,500 naira Yaradua: met it at 4,500 naira, left it at 3,500 naira Johnathan: met it at 3,500 naira left it at 10, 000 naira Buhari: met it at 10,000 naira, current price is 48,000 naira Cement (50 kg) Obasanjo: met it at 1000 naira left it at 2,800 naira Yaradua: met it at 2,800 naira left it at 1, 600 naira Johnathan: met it at 1,600 naira left it at 2,500 naira Buhari: met it at 2,500 naira, current price is 4,800 naira Yaradua was obviously a sick man but he was the best, if only he lived to fulfill his mission for Nigeria, We wouldn't have been in this mess of today. |
SportsHD:Stop being a fool, he said Los Angeles, he didn’t say New York or Chicago, London, Toronto or Frankfurt. Who told you Los Angeles means most beautiful city. I guess you have never been to Los Angeles anyway. Other African cities can be the London, New York, Toronto, Frankfurt, Milan, Tokyo of Africa but this is the Los Angeles. I won’t be surprised if you don’t understand my explanation, after all, you have never travelled outside of Africa. |
Kennyg290:Na werey dey worry am! Awon Mediterranean boat migrant! |
Iamajala:I wonder his own kind of poverty. |
At times, i feel disappointed, at the level of inferiority complex portrayed by most Nigerians, most especially those who have never in their lives left the shores of Nigeria. Today my contempt for such stupid mentality got fuelled by a post I saw on nairaland. The content of the post was just as stupid as the tittle, ’a begger in Canada is better than a billionaire in Nigeria’ please my fellow ’been to’ who have left the shores of Africa, doesn't that sounds stupid to y’all? How could some one be so daft? Does he even comprehend how much is a million dollar, not even to talk of a billion. Anyway, I blame him not, because anybody whom have ever travelled abroad before will know that the world is not different than Nigeria. I would like to share the message I received from a friend of mine who visited Los Angeles Skid row area, please read it bellow: I walked by a tent yesterday belonging to a unfortunately homeless person and they were both using m3th… the look in their eyes was dead… they just looked so sad and scared. The city is gorgeous, but the underbelly can be atrociously sad. You want to help them, but you can’t even make eye contact cause in their delirious state, they could harm you on accident… it’s upsetting all around in that department. The city has a seriously scary dark side . Meanwhile, the dude who texted me is a White American guy, that is why I shared the message here on NL to show you how even a white guy feel about beggars and homeless People. So how, could a grown up person be so daft and idiotic? God forbids his kind of poverty! His type can never be of use outside Nigeria, of he continue with Such Mentality. |
This OP na yeye mumu, I don’t think his illiterate brain comprehends the meaning of the word billionaire . A friend of mine visited Los Angeles’ Skid row area an sent me this; I walked by a tent yesterday belonging to a unfortunately homeless person and they were both using m3th… the look in their eyes was dead… they just looked so sad and scared. The city is gorgeous, but the underbelly can be atrociously sad. You want to help them, but you can’t even make eye contact cause in their delirious state, they could harm you on accident… it’s upsetting all around in that department. Mind you, this guy is a White American guy, yet a poverty stricken pauper comes here to say shit! What a disgrace, so if by chance, he becomes a billionaire overnight, then he is still is less than a begger in Canada. Or is the Sufferer trying to say a street begger in Canada lives a better life than Aliko Dangote, the richest black person in the world! Godforbids your kind of poverty! |
Sweetplum:How was he born to suffer, can you try to be semi illiterate for at least a day? Your stark illiteracy is Stupendously out of this world, if not, you would have known that this is a political forum and every one here is a politician with his or her own ideology. Your idiocy is only an epitome of your illiteracy, It is okay to be a a stupid fool at home in the midst of your family but it is stupid to be such here on a political forum. Dunce! |
I’ve heard it a couple of times ’Biden doesn’t like war’ but is it really true? Of course not, Biden has been one of the masterminds behind US involvement in war during his lifetime. Ukraine is Just an example. I would like you to no these five instances were Biden fuelled war, so the next time anybody tells you ’Biden doesn't like war, you should have at least some evidences to back up your answer which will be ’of course he does’. 1. When the Bosnian War broke out, Biden was among the first to call for the " lift and strike "policy of lifting the arms embargo, training Bosnian Muslims and supporting them with NATO air strikes, and investigating war crimes .The George H. W. Bush administration and Clinton administration were both reluctant to implement the policy, fearing Balkan entanglement. 2. Biden wrote an amendment in 1992 to compel the Bush administration to arm the Bosnian Muslims, but deferred in 1994 to a somewhat softer stance the Clinton administration preferred, before signing on the following year to a stronger measure sponsored by Bob Dole and Joe Lieberman . 3. In 1999, during the Kosovo War, Biden supported the 1999 NATO bombing of Former Yugoslavia . He and Senator John McCain co-sponsored the McCain-Biden Kosovo Resolution, which called on Clinton to use all necessary force, including ground troops, to confront Milošević over Yugoslav actions toward ethnic Albanians in Kosovo . 3. Biden was a strong supporter of the War in Afghanistan, saying, "Whatever it takes, we should do it." As head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he said in 2002 that Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was a threat to national security and there was no other option than to "eliminate" that threat. 4. In October 2002, he voted in favor of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq, approving the U.S. invasion of Iraq. 5. As chair of the committee, he assembled a series of witnesses to testify in favor of the authorization. They gave testimony grossly misrepresenting the intent, history, and status of Saddam and his secular government, which was an avowed enemy of al-Qaida , and touted Iraq's fictional possession of weapons of mass destruction . |

CaptainAyub:The poverty capital of the World is the biggest economy in Africa and the 27th largest in the World. |
buckeyemedia:Take it easy on the dude bro, not every one has tasted wealth and if he is one of them, you don't have to be harsh on him, rather you ought to have told him politely that: The US president uses a Car of 624 million naira The vice president of Nigeria earns about 13 million naira per month, which amounts to about 158, million naira per year That even celebrities drive cars worth more than that That an Odogwu bitters ambassador received 50 million naira That by nature politicians are meant to be wealthy That 90% of all politicians in the world, irrespective of positions they hold are worth more than 1 million dollars. |
pansophist:They are white Countries, go to Europe and see them dressed in Leather jackets and head warmers, you won't believe they are arabs. White is a race, not a tribe! |
thesicilian:Come on don't discourage him from migrating to America by using black people as an excuse, even Australian and Canadians cannot resist going to the US for one purpose or another. If it is about avoiding blacks then he can settle in States such as Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Delaware, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa,Wisconsin, Montana etc Or he can settle in Somewhere like El Paso. Meanwhile experience is the best teacher, perhaps yours was nasty, mine was nice. |
If the Microscopic IGR is claimed to be worth $ 1 billion per week, then I wonder how much Nigeria would lose per day if We Southwesterners decide to sit at home for just one day. It probably would be more than $10 billion. Shebi na to deceive ourselves for this country? Oya now. 1 billion indeed, for people that can't survive in their region. :PIf the Microscopic IGR is claimed to be worth $ 1 billion per week, then I wonder how much Nigeria would lose per day if We Southwesterners decide to sit at home for just one day.
