Computers / Computer OVERHEATING Causes, Signs & Preventive Measures by hardeyjahreh: 2:26am On Sep 19, 2017
OVERHEATING is a great problem which computer users face mostly and of which they have little or no idea about it. It occurs when a Computer exceeds its normal range of heat production. It is a problem that is hyped to be common with AMD motherboard.
Computers hate HEAT and that is why Computers are designed in such a way that heat can be expelled and allow for proper air circulation.

CAUSES OF HEATING
1.BAD COMPUTER COOLING SYSTEM/FAN
cooler
Bad cooling system/fan of a PC is the main factor that cause overheating because it makes the PC not to give way for good air circulation. Inside of the case of a laptop collects dust and other debris from the surroundings through the blowing fan component, which if left uncleaned, this can force the fan and other parts to overwork, thereby leading to overheating

2. OVERCLOCKING
Simply put, overclocking means setting your CPU and memory to run at speeds higher than their standard speed grade.

3. LOCATION
Poorly ventilated rooms or ones that receive minimal climate control are unfriendly computer environments,. A computer that has direct face to sunlight and any other heat sources, records increase its temperature. So therefore keep your computer away from windows, other heat sources.

4. Operating Systems & Installed Softwares
Installing a non suitable operating system on a computer which configuration doesn't support may cause overheating. Also using software that demands high graphics memory on a computer with a low VRAM (video graphic memory) also leads to overheating.

5. AGED COMPUTER COMPONENTS
overheating can occur due to aged computer components, the components work less efficiently and can overheat.
bluescreen1 crashes

SIGNS OF OVER HEATING

1) When your PC shuts down for no reason, it could be as a result of overheating
2) Blue screen crashes, and freezes (especially while doing something demanding high performance of the PC, like playing PC games , encoding video, 3D designs e.t.c)

PREVENTIVE MEASURES
You don’t have to put your PC in the refrigerator to cool it down because it overheats. You just have to take this few steps:

1. USAGE OF PROCESSOR TEMP MONITORING SOFTWARES
Using temperature monitoring app by checking the processors temp from time to time. Softwares like Core temp, Speed fan, HWMonitor (I will like to suggest Core temp because it gives accurate temp and can also be set to shutdown/ hibernate PC when its temp has reach the maximum level) e.t.c

2. SERVICING
Overheating can be prevented by regular servicing of your PC of cause by a professional like (favoured system service) to remove accumulated dust from your pc. It all depends on the usage and the environment. maybe like once in six month for both.

3. COOLING PAD

Making use of cooling pad.Especially for AMD

4. PC POSITIONING
We can also prevent overheating through the way we position our PC You don't place on bed but on flat and hard surface, and if possible place something to raise the laptop up a bit from the rear position.

5. UNSUITABLE SOFTWARES
Avoid using softwares that demands high resolution graphics quality (high VRAM Requirement) on a system that doesn't have the required VRAM to run the program.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced on Tuesday that it would on Thursday launch a satellite into space in partnership with other local and international organisations and countries.
The university said the satellite belonged to Japan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, and would be launched into Space from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA.

“It is the first ever university satellite to be launched in Nigeria,” a statement by the university stated.

Read full statement below:

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, scientific prowess will get a big fillip on Thursday June 1st at 10.55pm (Nigerian time), when the SpaceX Falcon9 Rocket launches Birds 1 satellites, comprising 5 CubeSats belonging to Japan, Ghana, Mongolia, Nigeria and Bangladesh, into Space from Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA.

The Nigerian CubeSat, code name NigeriaEdusat-1, is designed, built and owned by The Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, in collaboration with National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, Abuja, Nigeria, and Kyushu Institute of Technology Japan.

Ibukun Adebolu of FUTA’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is the representative of Nigeria on the project. It is the first ever university satellite to be launched in Nigeria. The CubeSats will be launched and docked to the International Space Station where the satellites will be deployed into lower orbit during the last week of June 2017. The CubeSats launch can be viewed live via the link

Computers / How To Extend Your Laptop Battery Life Span - FSS Researchers by hardeyjahreh: 1:52pm On Apr 14, 2017
Recently, Questions has popped up on how to elongate laptops battery Life Span. To this effect a research on this was conducted. Below are tips that has been gathered through research work by FSS Research Team that will help in making your laptop’s battery last longer.
You can make your laptop’s battery run longer on by turning off or reduce all the things that expend power in your computer.

KEEPING THE BATTERY FRESH
Keep the battery fresh. Batteries leak power if they aren't used fairly soon after charging. If you use your "full" battery 2 weeks after you last charged it, you may discover it is empty.
Instead of charging the battery to 100% each time, fix the maximum charge limit to 80-85%. This will help in the long run by reducing the battery degradation with time. Sony VAIO, Lenovo, Samsung e.t.c. Users are very lucky to have it as an inbuilt option to set this. Of which to do this in a Place where Electricity supply is not stable is not easy.

REDUCE THE NUMBER OF RUNNING PROGRAMS
Learn to single-task
PC memory that is in use takes more power to hold data. If your laptop has plenty of memory, then keep multiple applications open to avoid loading repeatedly from the hard drive. Close all the Programs that run in the background on your computer.
Use a basic text editor rather than the processor and RAM heavy Microsoft Word. Heavy Program like games or movie watching uses a lot of battery power.

POWER USAGE
Switch off the wireless card when you are not using it.
Disable Bluetooth. If you don't use this feature, you can safely disable it to avoid draining your laptop’s battery. (Bluetooth works with your wireless card, so putting the wireless off will also power off your Bluetooth) Shut down or hibernate the laptop rather than using standby/Sleep , if you plan on not using it for a while.
Standby/Sleep continues to drain energy to keep your laptop ready to go when you open the cover.
Note: Power plans can be edited on your laptop to suit this very purpose.

DEFRAGMENTATION
Defrag your hard drive.
The more fragmented your hard drive is the more your hard disk needs to work.
Note: You don’t need to do this on a Mac, as they do this automatically by themselves when needed.
Also, don’t do this if your computer uses a solid-state drive, as this will actually make it slower!

DISPLAY: REDUCE THE LCD'S BRIGHTNESS LEVEL.
Reduce the brightness level of the Screen

SOUND
Turn the volume level down, or mute it, if you do not plan to use it.

PERIPHERALS
Unplug external devices such as a USB mouse or an external drive.
Avoid using a CD or DVD. If you store copy of data you need on an optical disc, copy it to your laptop hard drive or a thumb drive before traveling. Optical drives consume large amounts of power to spin up CDs and DVDs.
Try to avoid applications that keep your hard drive or optical drive spinning. Need to play music? Try to use your handheld MP3 player, rather than playing songs on your computer. Playing songs on your computer will keep the hard drive working which uses energy.
Eject external devices such as pen drives, DVDs, hard disks, etc. , if not in use.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Avoid extreme temperatures. Batteries rely on basic chemistry and will die faster at extreme temperatures. Try to charge and use the battery at room temperatures. Use a cooling pad when using a notebook computer on your lap. But if it's a USB pad then don't use it as it will most likely use up more battery rather than to conserve it.
Avoid propping your laptop on a pillow, blanket, or other soft surface that can heat up.

CLEANING YOUR BATTERY
Clean the battery contacts. Clean the battery's metal contacts with rubbing alcohol on a damp cloth. Clean contacts increase the energy efficiency.
Note: Be careful when cleaning the contacts. Always clean them when the battery is fully drained, and use a very slightly damp cloth, so as to avoid electric shock and short-circuits.
Extra tips
If you use your computer for too long, it could overheat and slowly damage components, shortening their lifespan.
Be careful when charging your battery. Never hook it up to charge it when you're not around.
Clean your desk. It sounds strange, but if you have a dusty, dirty desk, that dust will get into the vents and clog the cooling fan. Once the dust is inside your laptop, it is much harder to remove.
Take a break if your battery is running low.
Don't run games if the computer's already hot.

Education / South African Universities Set To Offer Witchcraft In Their School Curriculum. by hardeyjahreh: 6:12pm On Oct 10, 2016
South African universities set to offer
witchcraft in their school curriculum.
If news making the rounds is anything to go by,
then students will now have a chance to get an
education on witchcraft.
According to Live Monitor, plans to include
witchcraft into university curriculums, have
been announced by the South African minister
of higher education and training, Mr Blade
Nzimande.
witchcraft school
According to Nzimande, the classes which will
commence from 2018, is aimed at learning
skills which are peculiar to people who practice
witchcraft.
Addressing student union representatives from
across the country, he said:
“There is a lot we can learn from witchcraft,
like how they fly in that winnowing basket.
Imagine if we learn that skill. It will eradicate
traffic jams and everyone will just get in their
basket and fly. It also means we will not be
importing fuel anymore.”

Nzimande also reportedly asked popular
witches to book and keep appointments with
his office, where there skills would be tested to
determine which ones would be hired as
lecturers. He also reportedly invited witches
from outside South Africa, with a promise of
permanent residency.
He said:
“I spoke to Gibs (Minister of Home affairs
Malusi Gigaba) and he agreed to issue witches
from outside South Africa with permanent
residence permits. I heard Malawi and
Zimbabwe have an impressive collection of
witches. We are hoping they will heed the call.”
The student representatives were said to have
booed him after his speech, because they had
assumed he would reduce their increasing
school fees.
Applications into the department is said to be
closing at midnight on September 30. There is
currently an opening for 109 witches.

Sports / Ronaldo Can Win Euro 2016 And The World Cup But Messi Will Still Be Number One by hardeyjahreh: 2:58pm On Jul 09, 2016
The Portuguese forward is on the brink of
achieving a senior international title, something
his Barcelona rival has never managed, but the
Argentine will always be superior

The debate will run and run. Cristiano Ronaldo is
one game away from winning Euro 2016 and if he
does he will have achieved something even
Lionel Messi has not: a major trophy with his
national side. However, whatever happens on
Sunday in Paris has no bearing on who is the
better player. Because that is and always will be
the Argentine.
In an editorial published on Thursday, Goal 's
chief correspondent Peter Staunton argued that if
Cristiano claims the trophy on Sunday, he will
have had a greater career than the Barcelona
forward . But that is simply not the case - not
now, nor never.
There is no doubt that Ronaldo is a phenomenon.
The Portuguese is a man whose extraordinary
dedication and ambition mean he is always
seeking to improve and to do even better. And it
is that desire that has seen him win countless
trophies, both collectively and individually -
including three Ballons d'Or.
RELATED
Ronaldo is honest when asked about his
objectives. "I want to become the best player
ever," he has said on a number of occasions. The
problem with that, however, is that he is not even
the finest footballer of his era. Because that
honour belongs to Messi.
Cristiano can win the Euros, he can claim another
Ballon d'Or or perhaps more, but even if he were
to win the World Cup with Portugal, he would still
not be a better player than the Argentine attacker.
Messi is simply superior on every level. Ronaldo
scores loads of goals? Yes, he does. But Messi
has still scored more in the time the two have
played in Spain. And although Cristiano can boast
some spectacular efforts among those strikes,
most are via a single touch, a thunderous drive, a
prodigious leap - especially these days.
Pep Guardiola was once asked to describe Messi
in words and said: "You can't - you have to
watch him." And it is true. Look at Ronaldo's
goals. Impressed? Great. Now look at Messi's
goals. Then look back at Cristiano's after that.
Still as impressed as you were before?
The same can be said for the assists. The
Portuguese produces his fair share, but the
assist he claimed against Wales on Wednesday
was typical - a mishit shot redirected into the net
by Nani. Ronaldo shoots so often that many of his
efforts fail to hit the target and some find a team-
mate in a better position. That's logical. Not all of
them are that way, of course, but again his
assists are fewer, less spectacular and
usually far less difficult technically than Messi's.
That's why stats don't tell the whole story. Messi
is much more than numbers and it is not the
same thing to beat five players and score in a
spectacular solo run than it is to hammer home
from close range at the far post - even if both are
ultimately worth the same. And it's the same with
assists: a mesmerising run past three or four
players before setting up a team-mate or a
wonderful curling delivery from deep to take out
several defenders is so much more difficult than
a mere cross, a single pass or even a mishit
shot.
But even if you measure the two in numbers,
Messi is ahead. And in terms of trophies, he is
well clear. While Ronaldo has claimed 17 titles at
Manchester United and Real Madrid (nine and
eight respectively), the Argentine has won 28 with
Barcelona (including two trebles) and he is over
two years younger than the Portuguese.
At international level, neither has achieved what
many believe they should have. Messi, after
helping Argentina to an Under-20 World Cup and
an Olympic gold medal (with the U-23 team), has
failed to add a title with the senior side - losing
four finals (three Copas America and one World
Cup) and calling time on his Argentina career
after the latest disappointment in the Copa
America Centenario when he missed a penalty in
the shootout loss to Chile.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, lost out in the final at Euro
2004, fell again in the semi-finals of the 2006
World Cup and also in the last four at Euro 2012.
He has come close, but was disappointing along
with his team-mates in group-stage exit at Brazil
2014 and Sunday's showpiece in Paris is quite
probably his last real shot at a major honour with
his country.
But even if he wins it and produces a match-
winning performance at the Stade de France, that
will not make him a finer footballer than Messi.
The Argentine creates more than
Cristiano, scores greater goals, is less selfish,
dribbles better, possesses superior technique
and passing, and is also on top when it comes to
free-kicks now. Victory for Portugal in the Euros
won't change any of that.
Football is all about opinions, of course, but it is
fair to say that the only ones who believe Ronaldo
to be better than Messi are either Portuguese,
Real Madrid fans or (some) Manchester United
supporters. Everyone else, including neutrals,
thinks Messi is the number one. And that's
because he is - whatever happens on Sunday.

Education / Re: ASUU kicks against FG’s scrapping of Post-UTME by hardeyjahreh: 8:25am On Jun 30, 2016
hmnnn.... God shuld just save us in Nigeria
Education / Minister Orders Refund Of Post-utme Fees by hardeyjahreh: 8:16pm On Jun 27, 2016
Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu
has directed all tertiary institutions that have
conducted post-UTME examination to
immediately refund money taken from
candidates.
The minister has also declared that post-
UTME examinations already taken are null
and void; threatening that any institution
caught still conducting the examination under
any guise would be sanctioned.
The minister made this position known
yesterday, in a press statement issued by
Deputy Director Press and Public Relations,
Ben Bem Goong. The strong-worded
statement reiterated the Ministry’s position
that post-UTME examinations have been
cancelled with immediate effect and no
institution should conduct such
examinations. The minister warned that once
the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) has certified a candidate worthy of
admission into any of the tertiary
institutions, that candidate must be deemed
fit by the institution.
According to the statement, students who
have already been offered admission by
JAMB may be screened by the institutions but
this must not involve the conduct of any
other entry examination. The candidates can
be screened by verifying their certificates but
not through the conduct of examinations.
The minister stated that it is unnecessary to
subject students to further examinations
when they have been offered examinations
by JAMB since they will still have to go
through between eight or 12-semester
examinations throughout their four to six
years study in the institutions.
The minister, therefore, directed the National
Universities Commission (NUC) and
appropriate departments in the Ministry to
communicate the directive to relevant
agencies and institutions to ensure strict
compliance.
“Those who have already advertised for the
conduct of the Post-UTME under any guise
should stop the exercise immediately as any
university caught conducting Post-UTMNE
will face appropriate sanctions. If any tertiary
Institution has already conducted Post-UTME,
such an exercise stands annulled and money
taken from such candidates must be refunded
immediately”, the Minister said.
The directive to stop the post-UTME
examinations was given by the minister
nearly a month ago. The minister said
through the statement that it was important
to emphasise the directive in order to ensure
that no stakeholder is left in doubt as to
government’s position on the matter.
He affirmed that the responsibility for
admission into public tertiary institutions lies
solely with JAMB and under no circumstance
whatsoever, should anybody or institution
take over that responsibility by proxy.
“The ban is with immediate effect, and under
no circumstance should any institution
violate the directive”.
“Any educational institution after secondary
education is regarded as a tertiary
institution. Therefore all tertiary institutions,
Polytechnics, Colleges of Education,
Universities or by whatever name it is called
after secondary education must be subjected
to admission through the JAMB. At the end of
probationary admission by JAMB, the
candidates can be cleared (screened) for final
admission. For any institution with a
shortfall in admission, such institution can
revert to JAMB for supplementary
admission”.
“Clearing in this case (screening) entails only
the verification of certificates of the
candidates, JAMB scores, and any other
physical examination to ensure that such
candidates are not cultists. After this, the
candidates are qualified for matriculation.
Such screening should be at no cost to the
parents or students and should be done upon
resumption in order to avoid unnecessary
travels in search of admission”, the minister
said,
For secondary school leavers who are
seeking admission into the tertiary
institutions, Malam Adamu said that
subjecting them to too many examinations all
in one year, is traumatic, exploitative and
absolutely unnecessary. This is besides the
cost of travelling, hotel accommodation and
examination fees that parents have to incur
in their bid to secure admission for their
ward.

Computers / How To Extend Your Battery Life by hardeyjahreh: 5:36am On May 23, 2016
How to Extend Laptop Battery Life
Span?
Recently, Issues has popped up about how to
elongate laptops battery Life Span. You can make
your laptop’s battery run longer on by turning off or
reduce all the things that expend power in your
computer.
Below are tips that has been gathered through
research work by FSS Research Team that will help
in making your laptop’s battery last longer. It is
divided into 8 sections
Section 1: Keeping the battery fresh
Keep the battery fresh. Batteries leak power if they
aren't used fairly soon after charging. If you use
your "full" battery 2 weeks after you last charged it,
you may discover it is empty.
Instead of charging the battery to 100% each time,
fix the maximum charge limit to 80-85%. This will
help in the long run by reducing the battery
degradation with time. Sony VAIO, Lenovo,
Samsung e.t.c. Users are very lucky to have it as
an inbuilt option to set this. One should charge it full and exhaust it to like 4% for Calibration purposes.
Section 2: Reduce the number of Opened
Applications
Learn to single-task
PC memory that is in use takes more power to hold
data. If your laptop has plenty of memory, then keep
multiple applications open to avoid loading
repeatedly from the hard drive. Close all the
applications that run in the background on your
computer.
Run simple applications that don't use much RAM,
disk drive, or processing power.
Use a basic text editor rather than the processor
and RAM heavy Microsoft Word. Heavy applications
like games or movie watching are especially hard
on the battery.
Section 3: Power Management
Switch off the wireless card when you are not using
it.
Disable Bluetooth. If you don't use this feature, you
can safely disable it to avoid draining your laptop’s
battery. (Bluetooth works with your wireless card,
so putting the wireless off will also power off your
Bluetooth) Shut down or hibernate the laptop rather
than using standby/Sleep , if you plan on not using it
for a while.
Standby/Sleep continues to drain energy to keep
your laptop ready to go when you open the cover.
Power plans can be edited on your laptop to suit
this very purpose.
Defrag your hard drive.
The more fragmented your hard drive is the more
your hard disk needs to work.
· You do not need to do this on a Mac, as they
do this automatically by themselves when needed.
· Also, do not do this if your computer uses a
solid-state drive, as this will actually make
it slower!
Section 4: Display Reduce the LCD's brightness
level.
Turn down the screen resolution. The method for
doing this will depend on your laptop make.
Section 5: Sound
Turn the volume level down, or mute it, if you do not
plan to use it.
Section 6: Your Physical Environment
Avoid extreme temperatures. Batteries rely on basic
chemistry and will die faster at extreme
temperatures. Try to charge and use the battery at
room temperatures. Use a cooling pad when using
a notebook computer on your lap. But if it's a USB
pad then don't use it as it will most likely use up
more battery rather than to conserve it.
Avoid propping your laptop on a pillow, blanket, or
other soft surface that can heat up.
Section 7: Peripherals
Unplug external devices such as a USB mouse or
an external drive.
Avoid using a CD or DVD. If you store copy of data
you need on an optical disc, copy it to your laptop
hard drive or a thumb drive before traveling. Optical
drives consume large amounts of power to spin up
CDs and DVDs.
Try to avoid applications that keep your hard drive
or optical drive spinning. Need to play music? Try to
use your handheld MP3 player, rather than playing
songs on your computer. Playing songs on your
computer will keep the hard drive working which
uses energy.
Turn off the auto save feature on MS Word or Excel.
Constant saving will keep your hard drive turning
and using energy.(If you are the type that forgets to
save do not do this) Eject external devices such as
pen drives, DVDs, hard disks, etc. , if not in use.
Section 8: Cleaning your Battery
Clean the battery contacts. Clean the battery's
metal contacts with rubbing alcohol on a damp
cloth. Clean contacts increase the energy
efficiency.
Note: Be careful when cleaning the contacts.
Always clean them when the battery is fully
drained, and use a very slightly damp cloth, so as
to avoid electric shock and short-circuits.
Extra tips
· If you use your computer for too long, it could
overheat and slowly damage components,
shortening their lifespan.
· Be careful when charging your battery. Never
hook it up to charge it when you're not around.
· Clean your desk. It sounds strange, but if you
have a dusty, dirty desk, that dust will get into the
vents and clog the cooling fan. Once the dust is
inside your laptop, it is much harder to remove.
· Take a break if your battery is running low.
· Don't run games if the computer's already hot.
