uchetobi: @emispackage ..thank God for safe entry
@ kenkelewu...na wa @ 29wks all that stress?

@ all a friend got in through houston this morning.....she flew united @32 weeks and her pregnancy was not detected at POE. She was asked what she was there for and she said vacation and they stamped her in for 6 months. I will get more details when she is settled

Another option for houston people is to ditch united and fly delta....come in through atlanta then take a connecting flight to houston
Sounds consoling.....

kenkelewu: Hmn, horrible experience. I was asked the purpose of my trip (I know it's a normal question at any point of entry, but I refer to this because your response is very important. It may determine what you will go through at the secondary inspection). I said I was there to spend my leave. I wasnt looking so preggers at 29wks, but I didnt over disguise either. The lady asked what kind of leave and I said my maternity leave. She asked how far gone I was and I told her. She then asked me to hold on, cos someone would check my papers.
I was there for about 7hrs without any word, until I overheard one black woman saying I'd be the 13th person they are deporting within 2 weeks and that they should begin the proceedings, that was when I began to panic. I prayed all the prayers I knew to pray, asking God for intervention. I was called in to begin deportation proceedings when I asked what my offence was. I wasnt told anything still, so I asked if coming in pregnant was a crime. The officer said no, but that my issue was more than that. I asked for clarification, then he told me that I was already pregnant before obtaining a visa.
I said yes and he said I didnt declare it at the embassy. I said the interview was short and it's believed that you only answer what you are asked. I told him to check the notes of my interview, that the closest thing to that was when I was asked if I plan to have a baby in the US, to which I responded that it was a probability. He asked why I didnt give a concrete answer and I told him that I had several reasons.
1. I had no clue what it entails cos it was an after thought. That wasnt the purpose of my visa application
2. I dont even know if it's somth I could afford as I had no info abt the cost
3. I didnt know if I was going to get a visa, cos the general belief was that when you are a Nigerian woman and pregnant at that, you dont stand a chance of getting a visa.
He said but I was asked if I plan to have the baby, I said no, he should check the notes well, it was if I plan to have a baby.
He asked for the contact details of my Dr. I said I had none, that I was trying to have a VBAC experience and I was coming in to see if it's possible. If not, I'd go back home, cos I'd have help recovering from another CS at home unlike in the US.
He said it's not possible to have a VBAC that I'd never find such a Dr cos his wife attempted to, but couldnt find one. He then asked if there was going to be any repercussion if I was deported. I said there's none, just that there's a chance I'd die cos of the high mortality rate. He said I had valid visas to other countries, why did I choose the US? I responded that being in the US is not a do or die for me, that I have options but just wanted a different birthing experience.
He asked how much I had on me, told him about 8k wt credit cards of our UK acc and 2 Nigerian banks.
He stated again that I'd never find a VBAC Dr and he left, said he had to report to his supervisor. He came back after about 15mins and told me to keep all receipts that I'd need them whenever I want to come in to d US.
I left dehydrated, hungry, tired and had the nightmares for several days, wondering what could have happened if God did not intervene
@kenkelewu,

Did you travel recently too? Was Houston your POE?

emispackage: Good day guys... just got into houston. mehn, it was hectic. Came in with my husband. He was stamped in without stress. For me, they took me into a room for questioning o. As I told the guy I was pregnant. It was a terrifying one, esp as I saw a pregnant nigerian woman they were sending back. After waiting for a while, I was asked my intentions again. And was advised to stay away from any form of Govt funding and to keep all my receipts. With wat I experienced today, I don't think going wit ur husband changes anytin o. Cos the nigerian lady was there wit her husband too. He was stamped in but was told the they wld be deporting his wife back. Good luck to all the peeps traveln soon....cheers
@emispackage,

Congrats oooo..Na wa for this Houston people oooo..

I don dey fear ooooo, planning to travel next month

Babababy: Hmm,curious case this one. In my understanding about how it works, their is almost nothing the embassy can do for you now. You have been issued a visa ,and that's about how far they can go. They purpose of the issued visa still remains valid, and unless your current status expires, they can't amend anything on the visa. You best option might be ,to make sure you have everything in order. Get a hospital in place, do you registration and get an appointment. Travel with lots of cash,if you can so that you have to declare it, and they know you have cash. It's a good thing you going with your husband, let him do all the talking and don't lie about your intentions. It's not illegal to seek medical attention as long as you have the right visa. And since you were not pregnant when the visa was issued, you don't stand any risk of being turned back because you lied at the embassy. So your task will be to convince the CBP officer that you are more than capable of paying all bills, goodluck

classichique: Hello House, kudos 4d enlighteningment on dis topic. I have been studying this thread since I decided 2have my baby in america and I have a testimony 2share :-)
I went 4 visa interview last week and was granted. I had gathered some money 2geda in2 my account when the interview was close so I can present a fat statement since the money intended 4my travel wasn't already in my account.
Unfortunately, I printed my account statement when I had transferred all the money back 2d sources I got them from not knowing that on d day the statement is printed, the present balance in d account will be stated on the first page, summary part of d bank statement. When I printed my statement I had only 20k in my account and I went with this statement 2d embassy.

The consular officer asked me the ff questions:
Q: why do u want 2go 2d united states?
Me: 2have my baby
Q: so u'r pregnant?
Me: yes
Q: are u married?
Me: yes
Q: are u in touch with any doc in america?
Me: yes I am
Q: so d u have any documents 2show correspndences with the doc?
Me: yes and I show him a letter frm d doc stating my first appintment
Q: hw much is d delivery going 2cost?
Me: cs: 10k dollars normal: 7k dollars
Q: so do u have dis mney?
Me: yes I do
Q: can I see ur statement of account
Me: yes and with shaky hands, I hand him my bank statement that shows on d first page that I have only 20k in it. He looks @it line by line and hands it back 2me

He advised me not 2stay longer than 6months in d US but incase I have 2 4 whatever reason ssuch as birth complications, I shld make sure I call 2let them know

He hands me the collection letter and off I go :-)
@ classichique,

Congrats.....really happy for you.

Dear All,

I have been a silent listener and have been observing this trend for a long time.

I must sincerely mention that this trend has been the best i have visited on Nairaland. Thanks to all that have contributed to the success of this trend......and congrats to all that have been successful and praying that we shall all have good news to tell.

I am currently about 30 weeks with the intention of delivery my baby in the US, I am yet to decide where to deliver cos i have relatives scattered all over.

I and my son already had our visas since december last year but couldn't travel with my husband in June because my son was strong then. This is my first time travelling to the US and am a bit scared. My husband has agreed to travel with me in November when i want to travel but i just keep getting worried about the immigration and CBP officers.

My husband thinks we should send a mail to the embassy telling them of our intent to deliver in the US (Since i has the visa when i wasn't pregnant). He feels this will be an evidence we can show at the POE and wont have any issue but am afraid incase if their response is negative.

I am a bit confused right now and I really will appreciate your advice........

Good night
