10 Signs He Wants to Marry You: Put Him to the Test: Do you think your man might be considering popping the big question? Here are some signs he wants to marry you and will be buying that ring soon. It’s no secret, women have strong intuition and we can usually sense what our partner is thinking. If you suspect he’s thinking about marriage, you are probably right. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what men are thinking though, especially when it comes to commitment. If he is doing any of these 10 things, you might be closer to walking down the aisle than you think. If you have been dying to know if he’ll take the plunge but don’t want to make him feel pressured, just look for signs he wants to marry you. The proof is in the pudding. These 10 signs can help you navigate where you stand in his mind, even without him telling you. If he is doing these things you can be pretty sure he’s taking the relationship seriously. No one likes to be with a guy who won’t commit, so don’t! If he is dragging his feet and not treating you like a queen, find someone who will. 1. Investing in your future Has he offered to help you buy a car or pay for higher education? Maybe he’s offered to pay off your debt or help you consolidate debt. If he is starting to look to the future when your finances will be joined, chances are he’s not going to think twice about making investments that will benefit your future life together. If he asks for your opinion when making big purchases, it is a good sign he sees you both enjoying his new purchases together. If he has got you a really nice piece of jewelry lately, he might be testing the waters so to speak in order to see your response. Remember, guys don’t want to be rejected when they pour their heart out and their entire life is on the line with the power of your one word: ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Why not get a house magazine, a travel magazine or a parenting book. I mean don’t freak him out, but give him signs that you’re ready so he can feel more comfortable. As you do the pre engagement dance, you will start to change as you think about what your life together will be like and what you want it to be like. When you begin planning, he will also begin to pick up on the signs, so that’s a good thing. 2. Planning vacations together Here’s a sign that he’s taken a strong interest in you. If he’s planning vacations with you and his family or closest friends, he’s taking you pretty seriously. Even if it’s just the two of you but you can tell he is really trying to impress you, get to know you and get closer, it’s a pretty big sign my friend. Okay, planning in general is a sign he’s up to something. Have you noticed if he has been more frugal lately, is he saving up to buy you a ring maybe? Did he plan a vacation to a romantic location where he might be thinking of asking you? Is he buttering you up like a thanksgiving ham so he can stick you in the marriage oven? Sounds delicious, doesn’t it? 3. He wants to work out your differences When a guy goes the extra mile to try to improve communication and maybe suggests couples therapy, this is a sign he wants to make it work. If he is making an effort to see your perspective or has curtailed some of the behaviors that get under your skin, maybe he is growing up and planning your future as a happy couple. If he has softened up recently, he might be warming up to the idea of forever. Is he letting go of things that used to really make him mad? In that case, he must be doing some deep thinking. If he has made an effort to be nice to your friends that you know he doesn’t like that much, he is probably trying to impress you. When a man, simply put, starts acting like a man and less like a child, it’s definitely on purpose. A man cannot act without motivation and if he’s been looking in the mirror recently and getting in touch with his inner truth, you’ll know something is up. If you’re reading this article and things are ringing a bell, congratulations, he might be about to change your whole life. It might be time to break open the champagne and call Aunt Mindy pretty soon (she’s the one you never talk to, but feel compelled to call just to tell her you’re getting married). 4. He can’t get enough of you Does he invite you over every night? Has he talked about moving in together? Has he been spending an inordinate amount of time with you? Chances are he is smitten and thinking about the next step. If you’ve been together for a while, at least six months, chances are he’s thinking about it, even if he hasn’t mentioned it. If he keeps choosing to hang out with you over his friends, he might be ready to take the plunge. If he is showering you with compliments and seems really happy, this man is most likely very satisfied with you and thinking about that big decision. Has he put pictures of you everywhere, in his wallet and at his office? Does he call you and text you a lot? Does he ask to have dates and surprise you with fun things? When a guy is really excited about you, he won’t be able to stop. They aren’t that good at hiding it. 5. He introduces you to everyone he knows Here’s a big sign. Has he introduced you to all of the people that are important to him? This includes best friends, coworkers, and family. If he’s not ashamed of your relationship and he’s making sure everyone knows you guys are an item, chances are you’ve got yourself a committed man that will be on his knee in not too long. You’ll pick up on how he’s behaved in the past; maybe you’re the first one he has introduced to everyone. Guys are usually very cautious about bringing girls into the circle of trust. But when you’re in, it’s a big sign he loves you. Pay attention to how he introduces you. What did he say, does he compliment you, and is he proud of you? Does he hold your hand in front of them? This man wants to literally hold onto you until death do you part. 6. Meeting the parents Guys are funny creatures. Some of them will bring their parents on their first date (yes I’ve seen this happen), some guys will introduce you to their parents within the first week of dating, and some guys are more protective and wait for a while. Whatever the case may be, if he’s introduced you to his parents, this is a sign that he’s serious about you. If he had cold feet about meeting your parents and suddenly warmed up to the idea like it was no big deal, this man’s mind has changed. Is he asking to meet your parents and siblings? Is he asking what your parents like, trying to get to know them and get on their good side? Is he trying to score brownie points? If you’ve never been married before, you might not even realize what you’re walking into when a man gets serious about the relationship. Don’t think he’s just being nice because likes you. A man will not embrace a woman’s family unless he’s thinking they are going to become his family. 7. Looking at houses Has he become obsessed with looking at houses recently? If so, he might be thinking about wedding bells my dear. Usually guys don’t buy houses with girls they aren’t serious about. If he’s looking at them with you, he’s probably planning on living in one with you. Is this getting you excited? Getting nervous? Has he started talking about furniture or mortgages? Has he been obsessed with figuring out the job that will offer you both a great lifestyle? Has he been talking about or looking over “figures” a lot? He’s got nuptials on his mind if he’s plotting to nest. 8. Talking about children Yes, this is a big one too. If he keeps bringing up how he wants to be a dad or what a great mom you would make, his mind is in the future and he sees you guys starting a family. If you have noticed him commenting on babies or talking about friend’s kids, this man’s primal instincts are kicking in; he’s looking long term. Now, if you’re shopping, and he takes a turn into the kid section, you can almost guarantee his mind is scheming. Has he bought any self-help books recently? When men are thinking about becoming fathers, they often try to better themselves and prepare. For that matter, when they are getting ready for marriage, they will often do that as well. Maybe he dropped a bad habit, cleaned up his diet, started an exercise plan or made an effort to get a better paying job. If he has become more responsible lately, he might be thinking about settling down. 9. He’s really open with you When a man becomes vulnerable, it’s a good sign. If he has suddenly begun to share embarrassing moments, feelings, and other sensitive things, he might really have serious plans with you. When a man trusts you, he behaves differently. He lets his guard down and is more of his goofy self. Remember to be sensitive to him as he opens up, so he doesn’t feel like you’re going to attack him if he does let his guard down. Try not to judge him, and see him as a fellow human that is learning life lessons and doing the best he can. 10. He’s extra attentive Have you noticed him being extra nice to you recently? Has he been noticing when you change your hair or complimenting you on your outfits? Has he offered to take you out to dinner and gotten you flowers. Maybe he’s stopped leaving a mess in the living room or made sure to put down the toilet seat. When a man starts being a gentleman and stops being a boyfriend, he’s thinking seriously about something. Has he become more supportive of your ideas or asked you about your goals? Why is he evaluating your five year plan? What is he trying to figure out? If you sense that your guy is trying to see if your goals line up, this guy is sizing up wife material. If he’s not doing any of these things, it doesn’t mean he isn’t serious about you. Only you can know for sure. If you’re wondering, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with just asking. If you do want to marry this man, you want to be able to be open about your feelings anyway, right? If you’re so curious, just see what his thoughts are. What if you never asked and you spent years with someone just trying to ‘read the signs’ and not wanting to scare him off. Maybe he’s not looking for marriage and you can save yourself the heartache early on. Don’t pressure him by saying something like ‘when do you want to get married?’ but see if it’s something he’s considering. Open and candid relationships have the best chances of making it. Don’t be afraid to speak up and be open. When you feel his energy turned towards you, you will know something is up. If he is remembering what you say, listening intently and cancelling fantasy football with his buddies so you can have a movie night, this man has a ring on his mind. If you know someone who could benefit from this article, do them a favor and pass it along. I would love to hear feedback from you amazing women, and I thank you for being a part of the Aquavibes Blog community. FOR YOUR MARRIAGE, LOVE AND RELATIONSHIP ADVICES.. |

The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has berated the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, for his continuous scathing remarks about the health status of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen.The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has berated the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, for his continuous scathing remarks about the health status of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), saying Buhari is stronger than Fayose. He said this on Monday while speaking with journalists after meeting with 705 community development associations and cooperative societies in the state at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta. Fayose’s recent remarks came on the heels of the ongoing visit by the APC presidential candidate to the United Kingdom, where he met former Britain’s Prime Minister, Tony Blair, among other engagements. The Ekiti State governor had alleged that Buhari had gone for a check-up on his alleged failing health, instead of a working visit as claimed by the APC. But Amosun said it was not in the character of the Yoruba to wish anyone death. He said, “It’s a big shame from the quarters where the allegation came from. We are Yoruba. “There is an unwritten rule: t’aba n ja, bi ti ka ku ko (Even if we are quarelling, it is not to wish each other dead). “Even in this instance, we are not fighting. We want to represent our people. How can a sane person wish somebody else dead. It is a disgrace to our race as Yoruba for somebody to be wishing another person dead. “For your information, General Muhammadu Buhari is even stronger than the character that is saying the man is weak; maybe because of the military background.” Amosun, who was part of Buhari’s entourage to the UK, said he had to struggle to catch up with the 72- year-old retired General, despite his own age of 57. He said, “Even because of the way I walk, it’s like catching up with him. For his age, maybe because of his military background. It’s like seeing Baba Obasanjo too and say he’s old. “This is the man that is very agile; we are even telling him that you have to slow down. This is the man that we met together with Tony Blair. We left the place and we went to about five different places. The man is hale and hearty. “Even when we went to Ben Television, I told him ‘you can’t follow me, you have to go home’. He was willing, he was ready even in the cold. The man was walking round.” He further berated the ruling party for going viral on the Internet with falsehood, on the purported visit of Buhari to a London hospital. He added, “You can see the photoshop they are using; they are saying a lot of rubbish. This is not politics. It is descending to an abysmal level and I think all lovers of democracy and all lovers of humanity should caution them. “Politics shouldn’t be like this; saying that he (Buhari) has three months to live. They are just talking rubbish. “Politics will finish. Where would they be when you begin to talk this rubbish? I think it’s a shame and I think they are descending to a level that is unheard of, that negates reasonableness and good thinking. It’s against our tradition as Yoruba.” While talking about his administration’s interaction with the CDAs and cooperative societies, Amosun said he had gone to all the 236 wards in the state and met all the CDAs in their various locations. |
Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday reacted to President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement that victory for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the forthcoming elections would free Lagos residents from oppression, saying “Lagos is not in bondage.” Meantime, Fashola stunned a gathering in Lekki axis of the state when he said he bought his own vault where he will be buried after his demise four years ago. The governor while reacting to the Presidents statement said “It is an un-presidential statement made in an act of desperation.” It will be recalled that Jonathan made the statement during a meeting with leaders of market women groups, “Iyalojas”, in Lagos. According to him, “the question to ask him (Jonathan) is that if he had come to free residents of Lagos from bondage and he lived here for five days meeting with people and distributing money in dollars. That means he lived in bondage in five days while trying to free people. “If he can live here for five days moving with patrol vehicles that we paid for, let him go and spend five days in Chibok and he will know what bondage is,” he added. On his vault The governor said death is a necessary end that will come when it will come, saying there is need for people to prepare for it. According to him “we are here to inspect a cemetery , we often don’t like to talk about but there is a need for it because the population continue to expand and the Lekki Sub- region is growing very fast. “If you look at it the Ikoyi Cemetry, the Abari and all of that are more tha a 100 years old and they were built by colonialists and left behind for us and when you look at the way they have also managed them , many families cannot even visit the vaults where their loved ones are resting. “We have this strategic partnership now with private sector and they are going to deliver a cemetery like no other. They will manage it and make the cost also competitive. There will be high, medium and low density vaults for people who really want to make a statement at their exit . “It is the truism of life everyone who comes must go so as we are building hospitals , roads , schools imbibing survival strategy we must also plan for the end . “This sounds as something people don’t want to discuss. I have bought my vault . It surprises people. I paid for it four years ago . As I always tell people if you come here for life you must plan to go. Those who don’t want to go should not come.” ON Court of Arbitration Fashola said the first West African Court of Arbitration would be ready next month (March). He noted that the compelling need to resolve trade disputes locally rather than travelling abroad informed the sitting of the center in Lagos. The governor lamented that the country and other West African countries “lose a lot of funds to other countries in terms of arbitration. For instance, whenever any dispute arise in the country, the preferred place is either Paris, France or London, United Kingdom. And there is nothing special there. “All we need is to create a centre that will have the necessary reputation. We have the personnels because some of the best arbitrators in the continent are Nigerians. “We already have the international recognition for this. All that is left is to complete the project. We have received some arbitration funds also. And the next three weeks, the building will be ready for commissioning. We have atleast 11 rooms here.” “Also, we have the economic for the arbitration because a lot of construction, developmental and Public Private Partnership,( PPP) projects are ongoing. And dispute from there could be resolved here. “With this (Lagos Arbitration centre); We would save a lot of money and create employment,” the governor added. Fashola explained that through the initiative the state government has created a local destination for the sub-region, saying the court will be the destination for arbitration for West Africa. |

lagos—NATIONAL Co-ordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, yesterday, said that six million members of the group have resolved to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan at the March 28 presidential polls. He said OPC members took the decision at their National Co-ordinating Council meeting after taking time to assess President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Major Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made the disclosure at his Lagos residence while hosting Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, Hon Kingsley Kuku, who came to solicit his and OPC’s support for Jonathan’s re- election. Adams said OPC is rooting for Jonathan because of his human rights records in not arresting or detaining any activist since he came to power, convocation of national conference and promise to implement the 633 recommendations that will help to restructure the country, which he said is in the interest of the Yoruba and South-west. He said: ‘’OPC is a group of six million people. We sat down at our National Co-ordinating Council to decide on who to vote for between President Jonathan and Buhari and the support for Jonathan is unanimous.” ”Now, we have come out to support Jonathan because of the National Conference. We have been clamouring for National Conference since 1992, even our leaders could not organise it. President Olusegun Obasanjo organised the National Political Reforms Conference with a lot of no-go areas. In the end there was a stalemate. ”Now a minority, Jonathan, did it. The only no-go area is the unity of the country. He gave us open cheque to decide the future of Nigeria.” |
A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party and a two-time member of the House of Representatives representing Remo North Federal Constituency, Honourable Dave Salako bares his mind on the steps the national leadership of the party should take to avert loss in the forthcoming governorship poll. He specifically urged the president to ensure he uses his office to intervene in the political imbroglio rocking the PDP. Excerpts. By Daud Olatunji What exactly is wrong with the PDP in Ogun State ? All is not well and this is because the party hierarchy after seeing all that is happening in Ogun State has refused to apply the right antidotes to solve these problems. It seems they are turning away their eyes from the reality. We have been inundated with calls everywhere after we found that wrong names were published as candidates. Our problem started from congresses as you are aware, to the primaries and to where we are now. You should know that there were no primaries in Ogun State. But how come the emergence of candidates? That is the big question. So all is not well in Ogun State and we can only tell our people to be calm until we have these problems resolved. The way it is, the solution is far fetched and I can only speak for myself that come rain, come shine, I will still be in PDP. Our followers are very angry and they want to move to another party. Fairness and equity There is no amount of appeal one can make to them unless the party does the right thing and do justice, fairness and equity. Are you now indicting the national leadership of the party of not doing what you believe is right? I am blaming them for not doing what is right. They are the cause of our problem and I want to stand by it that unless the party address that area, there is going to be problem. You cannot stop people to move because there is freedom of association but some of us stakeholders will remain in the party until we get justice to our side. Is it that you have an axe to grind with somebody like Kashamu who is the major financier of the party in Ogun State? I don’t have any axe to grind with him. The only axe I have to grind with him is that he should be honest and he should be far away from anything that is politically fraudulent. He has done so many things that I have seen that are very wrong and he is getting away with it. I have pointed it out several times. I have taken him to court but instead of him backing out, he is brining another dimension into politics of Nigeria – finding people to compromise in many things that they know are wrong. He would get a black document and he wants to call it white to everybody. Falsification and distortion of facts and documents and I verily believe that this man doesn’t want us to win in Ogun State. I have it in my mind that he is working for APC because if you look at all the candidates he fielded in his so called list, they are all weak ducklings that can never stand any election and win. With due respect to those candidates. Even I challenge him, can he win Ogun East Senatorial seat for us? He cannot. He is not even qualified. We will challenge him when the time comes. We cannot be under the same umbrella with him unless he goes back to mend his ways. Don’t you think the situation on ground portends grave danger for the party? Absolutely, it does. This is a replica of what actually happened in 2011. Let us look at what happened in 2011. Buruji and his cohorts at that time made sure that Daniel and others were sent out of the party. Daniel went to PPN and the result is here. We lost the election but if you put the result of PPN and PDP together, we would have defeated Amosun. I am sure if care is not taken, the same thing will repeat because people are hitching to move to another party and not to stay under the same umbrella with Buruji and if they do, we cannot not stop and we will lose that election again. We thought this is a great opportunity for us to claim back our lost glory in Ogun State. What was the outcome of several meetings held with the leaders of the party, including Mr. President to resolve the knotty issues? In fact if you recall, you will recollect that there was a committee set up under David Mark to look into Southwest and they summoned us to the villa and we were all told to go and work together. I was there, Daniel, Dimeji, Buruji, JMK, all the leaders were there but the moment we left there, Buruji came back and started doing another thing. All the leaders are ready to work together and we are still working together but without Buruji and he is the only person scattering everything. Coming to your question, the last meeting that was summoned, the president was there, the vice president was there, Chief Anenih, Senate President and we were told to go and have a unity list and that nobody should go to court but the following day, this same man went to court. What has the party done to him? I want to repeat, he has gone to court more than 40 times and he has about 30 injunctions. Our former national Chairman , Bamanga Tukur only went to court once and he was disciplined. So what makes Buruji above all discipline? So there are questions that are begging for answer. Are you now saying that Buruji is greater than the party? He looks so but I am happy Anenih told him that he is not bigger than the party but what have they done since then. |

The conspiracies against President Goodluck Jonathan are no longer hidden from the public glare. These plots started several months ago, even before INEC fixed the election time table. Foremost amongst the plotters are : 1) General Olusegun Obasanjo, (1) Sanusi Lamido Sanusi (3) The Northern Elders Forum (4) Boko Haram and now Chukwuma Soludo, among others. These people or group of persons have not hidden their hatred for GEJ and the Federal Government. They all have their parochial reasons for participating in the plot. Obasanjo began the execution of the plan by his infamous “Letter to the President’ where he accused GEJ government amongst other things, of training snipers to assassinate over 1000 prominent Nigerians, (unsubstantiated); massive corruption, etc. He followed that letter with several attacks on GEJ on every occasion. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi continued from OBJ letter by writing his own letter accusing NNPC of having not remitted over $49.8billion which he later scaled down to $10.8 billion and then upgraded to $20billion. Forensic Audits by world class audit firm, Price Water House Coopers, has shown that no such money was ever missing or unremitted. Boko Haram has always struck when GEJ has something to celebrate. Even when Jonathan was to declare for Presidency, Boko Haram struck in a school in the North-east, killing over 50 students. This was intended to prevent GEJ from declaring. Of course APC latched on to that unfortunate incident to condemn the President for going ahead to declare for President when students had just been killed. Nigerians and indeed the world should note that in all Buhari’s endeavors and political maneuverings including all APC’s activities, Boko Haram has never disrupted their franchises. Now Soludo has come up with another voodoo N30trillions missing. On his part, the D-G, Buhari campaign organization, Governor Rotimi Amaechi recently accused pastors of collecting N6billion as bribe to support Jonathan. The clandestine activities of the Northern Elders Forum is obvious to all Nigerians. These plots are all about stopping President Jonathan from being re- elected. The vitriolic pursuits of ‘Stop Jonathan at all Costs’ using the instrumentality of corruption and Boko Haram have been casting aspersions on the integrity and image of Nigeria. Nigeria is being demonized before the world as a corrupt country, with corrupt and incapable military, because of false allegations of spurious stolen monies. These actors do not mind if Nigeria’s image is completely denigrated. These plotters are completely jaundiced to the gains of the Jonathan administration. Their goal is to delude Nigerians and the international community into believing that the government of Jonathan is not only monumentally corrupt, but weak, clueless and don’t have the nerve to tackle Boko Haram. Unfortunately many Nigerian and foreign countries and their press are buying into these diabolic plots. It is either Jonathan and his men were deliberately ignoring these shenanigans or they are oblivious of the fact that these people were targeting his re election bid. Part of their grand design is to weaken the credibility of the Jonathan administration. PDP as a party has been slow to react coherently to all the falsehood that APC and their sympathizers have been churning out. PDP and its presidential candidate have been too gentlemanly. Olisa Metu, the publicity Secretary of PDP has not matched the loquaciousness of Lai Mohammed, his APC counterpart. Lai Mohammed is a tough malevolent alarmist. Ditto the national chairman of APC, John Oyegun. These people raise alarm on any thing from the ridiculous to the profane. Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Muazu rarely grant press conference. PDP Publicity Secretary is more like a pastor admonishing the Elders and Deacons of his church when addressing the Press. These PDP people don’t spit fire like their counterpart in APC. Even the APC governors are not different. Adams Oshiomhole is full of showmanship. Amaechi another noisy governor. Take his theory of APC forming a parallel government if they lose. Buhari, of course is of the same stock aka, ‘baboon and the dog being soaked in blood’. If PDP and the President want to avoid these well aimed plots to frustrate their victory at the polls, they should reduce the smiles on their faces and add a little bit of frowns. They should learn not only to talk tough, but coherently. PDP should project the achievements of the Jonathan administration with some steel. This is because APC is a reactionary and alarmist party. If the Buhari’s certificate saga had been that of any PDP candidate, Tinubu and his APC gang would have led mass protest to INEC headquarters to disqualify the candidate. Having pressured INEC to postpone Nigeria’s general elections by six weeks, President Goodluck Jonathan and his inner circle of political operatives are focusing on new strategies to counter the groundswell of opposition to the incumbent president and to snatch the elections, a few high- profile sources have disclosed. One such strategy is to use huge funds put aside by Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison Madueke as well as donations from refined fuel importers and private operators of power distribution companies to buy up permanent voter cards in the states where Mr. One of the sources stated that increasing public backlash and fear of the unknown had pushed Mr. Jonathan to accept that Nigerians are determined to have elections. Consequently, said the source, the incumbent president has abandoned original plans to scuttle elections altogether in order to form a so- called government of national unity presided over by him. “He [Jonathan] knows that there is no option now than to allow elections to hold,” said the source. He added that the president would assure Nigerians of his preparedness for election at a choreographed media parley scheduled for later today in Abuja. Other sources revealed that Mr. Jonathan and his handlers would focus on healing rifts within the ruling party in order to present a united front that would make rigging more possible. For example, the president’s associates are expected to push to resolve the internal crises bedeviling the PDP in Adamawa and Taraba States. In addition, the president is planning to reach out to the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa to mend fences with them. One source said the six-week postponement of elections has helped Mr. Jonathan to “soften the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega.” He said the president’s team now feels confident that they can have their way with some INEC officials, including Mr. Jega, as the PDP fine tunes its rigging strategy in some key states. One INEC source said that, despite postponing the elections to serve Mr. Jonathan’s wishes, Mr. Jega had so far received little or no cooperation from the military high command. “They [the military] are not giving Professor Attahiru Jega the necessary assurance of security support to hold the election. We think that the powers-that-be have ordered the military to withhold the support until much later,” the source said. Meanwhile, one of our sources said operatives of the People’s Democratic Party intend to use the current lull to mop up permanent voter cards across Nigeria as part of a broad mechanism to rig the polls. The source claimed that agents of the ruling party were sending fronts to buy unclaimed voter cards. The cards would then be handed to ghost voters expected to help rig the election. The party has publicly stated that it is now opposed to the use of card readers for the purpose of validating legitimate voter card holders In addition, President Jonathan’s confidants were strategizing about the use of security agents to arrest, detain and intimidate major opposition figures as the elections near. One source disclosed that the arrest last week of former Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa was supposed to inaugurate a wider clampdown on political opposition figures. However, the security agents were forced to jettison the plan to pick other opposition officials after SaharaReporters released an audiotape of a similar strategy used in rigging of elections in Ekiti State. The tape exposed a meeting between several PDP officials close to Mr. Jonathan, including former Minister of State for Defense, Musiliu Obanikoro, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and current Governor Ayo Fayose, and Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh. In the tape, PDP officials can be heard instructing the army officer on the arrest of APC officials and supporters. Mr. Sylva told a correspondent last Friday that he had prepared to spend the weekend at the offices of the Department of State Services (DSS) only to be told to leave a few hours after his arrest. Our sources said the logic behind the planned detention and intimidation of APC members was to keep the opposition party sufficiently distracted to enable Mr. Jonathan’s team to finalize a broad rigging plan. Part of Mr. Jonathan’s strategies, to be unveiled over the coming weeks, includes the announcement of “job creation” initiatives aimed at luring back youth voters, many of whom are vehemently opposed to Mr. Jonathan’s re-election. Our source said the president’s other deft moves over the next weeks before the elections would feature a barrage of lawsuits against some opposition figures, including Muhammadu Buhari, the APC’s presidential candidate, the release of economic palliatives, and the harassment of INEC chairman Jega by government-sponsored groups. In addition, the Nigerian military would engage in a series of military operations against Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria’s northeast to enable Mr. Jonathan to claim that the Islamist terrorist group was on the cusp of defeat. In addition, the president and the ruling party reportedly plan to use their hefty war chest to woo a few opposition politicians to defect to the PDP. The president’s team was currently searching for a few high profile endorsements from Northern politicians, one of our sources said. |
