Politics / FG Proposes 5 Ways To Spend The Abacha Loot by hayormakaay(m): 1:03pm On Aug 08, 2016 |
– The Nigerian government has proposed 5 ways to spend the Abacha loot – The loot which is yet to be released by Switzerland is part of the 2016 budget – If released the $321 million will make it $1.044 billion of stolen loot, returned by Switzerland so far Abacha’s de factor rule as president from 1993-1998 was marked by looting of the country’s treasury In order to facilitate the quick return of part of Sani Abacha’s loot from Switzerland, the Nigerian federal government has proposed ways the returned loot will be used, when released. Therefore, the government of Nigeria has sent 5 proposals to Switzerland detailing how it will spend the $321m Sani Abacha loot. According to The Nation, Justice Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) for the Buhari administration said they will spend the bulk of the fund on social welfare for Nigerians to alleviate poverty. “Some of the projects have been captured in this year’s budget. They will impact on all Nigerians,” Malami said. “They wrote back to us on the fact that they will want the World Bank to be directly involved in the monitoring of the projects with a caveat that we have to pay monitoring fees. “We have not come to terms with paying monitoring fees for all the projects. We have not taken any decision to pay the bills for all the projects or to restrict the payment to two of the projects, “We are already collaborating with World Bank on three projects which will accelerate the nation’s development,” he concluded. READ ALSO: How President Buhari may spend recovered looted funds Note that, if released the $321 million will make it $1.044 billion of stolen loot Switzerland has repatriated to Nigeria in the past 11 years. Meanwhile, recall that only two months ago, former president Olusegun Obasanjo had described a judge as “ignorant and stupid” for directing all past civilian presidents from 1999 to account for the loot recovered from the late military dictator, Sani Abacha. The judge had issued an order of mandamus directing the federal government, through the attorney-general of the federation, to compel the regimes of Obasanjo, Musa Yar’ Adua and Goodluck Jonathan to publish the details of the recovery and spending of the Abacha loot.https://www.naij.com/919520-read-5-ways-fg-plans-spend-abacha-loot-321m.html?source=index_main

Politics / Okah Is After My Life - Goodluck Jonathan Cries Out by hayormakaay(m): 11:25am On Aug 08, 2016 |
– Goodluck Jonathan has cried out over plots to assassinate him – The ex-president’s claim comes on the heels of accusations that he is a sponsor of the NDA – Jonathan has denied the allegations, claiming that it was part of an attempt to assassinate him – GEJ said MEND has been seeking to kill him even while he was vice-president of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, ex- president of Nigeria has raised an alarm that his life is under threat by militants. Jonathan has said that the group MEND is after his life. In a statement made by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze on Sunday August 7, Jonathan said the list of sponsors by the splinter group Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) was political, adding that it was part of an attempt to assassinate him. The statement read in part: “Since it is not in our place to speak for all those named in the obvious fabrication, we are only intervening to the extent that its hidden intent poses a violent threat to the life of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a committed patriot. READ ALSO: Enjoy the fastest surfing with UC browser “We are seized by the feeling of déjà vu occasioned by the resurrection of one dim character masquerading as Cynthia Whyte, who had in the past served as the spokesperson for a notorious group that had all along shown its hand to be going after the life of former President Jonathan.” The former President recalled that in 2007, after he emerged as the running mate of the late President Umar Yar’Adua, the group invaded Yenogoa in an effort to assassinate him. He added that the members of the group later bombed his compound in Otuoke, Bayelsa state, on a night he was scheduled to attend to an important matter in his country home. “Do we need to remind anybody that the so-called Cynthia Whyte is the self-declared spokesperson for the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, a violent and murderous underground group led by one Henry Okah, which has not hidden its intention to destroy the former President?” Jonathan stressed. Jonathan said that the list, which named him and other South- South leaders as Niger Delta Avengers sponsors, was another attempt by the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), to eliminate him. According to him, the bombing that took place on October 1, 2010 at the Eagle Square, Abuja, showed that the group was violent. GEJ noted that: “We have no doubt in our mind that MEND, as a group contracted to go after Jonathan with the mind of assassinating him, has yet to abandon this criminal and ignominious craving. It is in this light that we view the purported statement issued by Cynthia Whyte as not only a sadistic continuation of this sick desire, but also a futile attempt to instigate the Federal Government to needlessly go after the former President. “Those who have been following the unsavoury developments in some parts of the country since the last general election would have noticed that MEND, its paymasters and other unscrupulous elements in the South-South region have been striving fruitlessly to exploit the ensuing confusion by surreptitiously working for the fulfilment of its yet-to-be declared political agenda. “We are not under any illusion that more accusations and allegations of this nature would not be hurled Jonathan’s way in the future. But we are very positive that he can never be fazed by such negative energy.” A group, which split from the NDA – Reformed Niger Delta Avengers – had named Jonathan as the grand patron of the NDA. An online medium, Sahara Reporters, reported that in a statement by its spokesperson, Cynthia Whyte, the RNDA also listed the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, as sponsors of the NDA. Online Jobs For Cash $6.50 Per Survey For Your Opinio Free and Easy - Start Now! Ad Others mentioned in the list were Chief Edwin Clark, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio; ex- militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo); the founder, African Independent Television, Raymond Dokpesi; Kingsley Kuku; Kimi Angozi, and Patrick Akpobolokemi. According to Sahara Reporters, the group said the NDA sympathisers are Daniel Alabrah; Tony Uranta, Daniel; Ms. Annkio Briggs, and a former spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh. The Reformed Niger Delta Avengers also named Oyege Nimi Brown, VIP Timothy, Joshua Macaiver, Paul Bebenimibo, among others, as the main operatives of the NDA. It added that the President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Udengs Eradiri, aka Brig. Gen. Murdoch Agbinibo, served as the NDA’s chief spokesman. Also, Clark, who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Dotun Sowemimo, wondered why he would be mentioned as one of the sponsors of such a heinous crime against the nation. He said: “The allegation is an attempt to undermine the efforts of the Niger Delta leaders to bring true, lasting peace to the region. “Clark and other leaders in the region believe in the unity of Nigeria. The list is a cheap lie, which is meant to distract the peace moves by the elders and leaders in the Niger Delta.” On his part, Wike, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, said the list should be ignored by the members of the public. Dokpesi, also distanced himself from the Niger Delta Avengers. Dokpesi in an interview with The Punch on Sunday in Abuja, said he remained committed to strengthening the unity and stability of Nigeria. He said, “I don’t know who is giving that report; I have never met any member of the NDA in my life, I have no association with them and I don’t know who they are. I have been committed to strengthening the unity and stability of the country.” Also denying the allegation, Metuh said he had nothing to do with the NDA. He said: “Ordinarily, I would not have responded to this, but on this occasion, I have chosen to respond, as this particularly borders on matters affecting national security. “This is a wicked, cruel and devilish plot to link me with such activities, especially as the claim is outright false.’’ A former spokesman for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, also denied being a sympathiser of the NDA. Alabrah said in a statement on Sunday that the report was a product of mischief designed to distract the Federal Government from decisively addressing the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta. The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, denied being a sponsor of the Niger Delta Avengers or any other militant group. In a statement on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Anietie Ekong, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom state described the allegation as “baseless, reckless and senseless.” The statement read in part, “Senator Akpabio has no link with the Niger Delta Avengers or any other militant group for that matter.’’ Also, a former Adviser to President Jonathan, on Niger Delta, Mr Kingsley Kuku, denied reports linking him with the Avengers. Meanwhile, there are indications that Goodluck Jonathan is meeting with militants in the Niger Delta region in a bid to put an end to bombing of oil and gas pipelines. The Guardian reports that a group, Niger Delta Peace Agenda, which is based in Bayelsa state, confirmed that Jonathan was secretly meeting with militants, especially the Avengers, and cautioned all Niger Delta militants to listen to the former president and Ijaw leaders to give peace a chance in the region.https://www.naij.com/919197-tension-jonathans-life-danger-ex-president-cries.html?source=index_main

Crime / Troops Destroy Militant Camps In Lagos, Ogun Recovers Ammunition, Other by hayormakaay(m): 11:03am On Aug 08, 2016 |
The military over the weekend made giant strides in their ongoing efforts to rid South West of suspected militants attacking Lagos and Ogun State communities. The ground troops who moved into the creeks after the Nigerian Air Force bombed the camps destroyed about ninety-seven enclaves of the militants and recovered three laptops, expended magazines, an AK47 rifle and police and military uniforms. It was gathered that pictures and a register containing names of suspected militants were also recovered. A source close to the operation, who didn’t want to be quoted because he is not authorised to speak to the media, said stench of decomposing bodies filled some of the camps, although no bodies were found. He described this as an indication that many of the militants might have been killed from the air strikes, noting that the fleeing militants might have taken the bodies of their men. “The recovered items will aid the investigation by the DSS and enable them to go after and apprehend the suspects,” said the source who added that the recovery of the pictures and names of the suspects in a register; shows that they are organised and that they usually signed in and out. “In one of the registers there are about 450 names on it. He added that “the police and army uniforms found had no names on them. We saw a lot of personal effects and I can tell you that the militants suffered casualties because of the stench coming out of the camps.” it was also learnt that the profiling of the arrested 11 suspects is ongoing. One of the revelations is that four of them have been identified as Ilaje, a development that corroborates claims from certain quarters that the gunmen were not from any particular ethnic·http://www.informationng.com/2016/08/troops-destroy-militant-camps-in-lagos-ogun-recovers-ammunition-other-items.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter

Rapid Vienna 2-0 Chelsea: Blues downed in Conte's first game Jul 16, 2016 18:53:00 The Italian coach oversaw his first game in charge of the Premier League side, but goals from Joelinton and Tomi Correa saw the Austrians emerge victorious Chelsea started the Antonio Conte era with a disappointing 2-0 pre-season friendly defeat at Rapid Vienna on Saturday. The Italian was chosen as the full-time successor to Jose Mourinho, who was sacked in December, with Guus Hiddink having led Chelsea to a 10th-place finish as interim boss during a disappointing Premier League title defence last season. The former Italy boss, lacking several first-team regulars due to their participation at Euro 2016, witnessed his side make a losing start to his tenure, though, as goals in either half from Joelinton and Tomi Correa saw Rapid celebrate the opening of their new Allianz Stadion in style. Asmir Begovic had already made a smart save low to his left from Philipp Schobesberger by the time Rapid moved in front. |

Onazi stars as Bayern Munich humiliate Barcelona 16-1 in Champions League The Nigerian midfielder was in superb form as he orchestrated the Bavarians’ drubbing of the Blaugrana at the Allianz Arena on wednesday Bayern Munich decimated Barcelona 16-1 in a Uefa Champions League game. Well, this can only happen in a video game as Ogenyi Onazi showed his dexterity in virtual football by teaching popular Nigeria comedian, Funnybone a harsh lesson. The Lazio midfielder playing with the German Bundelsiga outfit got the better of Barcelona in the one sided encounter that saw the Bavarians have 30 shots on target against the Blaugrana’s solitary two. Barcelona’s goalkeeper was forced to make 15 saves while Bayern Munich’s shot-stopper was called to action just once. Though Funnybone admitted he was not feeling fine, the smile on the face of Onazi showed he was a master of gaming. As one hopes this score line never happens when this two sides meet.source m.goal.com |

Crime / The Most Powerful Drug Lord El Chapo Breaks Out Of Prison For The Third T by hayormakaay(m): 8:47am On Jul 08, 2016 |
The head of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán is widely regarded as the most powerful drug lord in the world. He was first arrested in 1993 and then broke out of prison and spent many years on the run before he was rearrested in his hometown several years later. El Chapo was back in the limelight in July 11, 2015 after escaping a Mexican maximum security prison through an almost 1km long tunnel which ran from beneath his prison cell. El Chapo was eventually recaptured and Mexican authorities had even approved his extradition to the United States. Unfortunately, El Chapo had other plans. He broke out of the Altiplano Maximum Security prison in the early hours of Thursday. A Mexican prison official said “This escape plot was even more calculated than his previous escape. It was very well planned. He pretty much just walked out of the prison undetected and have no idea where he is now. I think it was being planned and put in place while El Chapo was on the run several months ago, just in case he was captured and put back in the same prison. He’s a smart man with plenty of resources.” A Mexican daily reports on how he escaped; “A small corner wall was slowly replaced with a balsa wood paneling with stucco plastering attached with hinges. Over the past six months it was installed and made to look and feel like a legitimate cinder block wall, but with little effort would shatter if the hinges failed to swing open. With the false wall, El Chapo simply walked out of prison to a waiting Jeep that drove him to a helicopter several miles away. The wall was put back in place by El Chapo’s as he broke out, but was left ajar just a few millimeters. An hour later, a guard noticed the discrepancy. El Chapo’s cell camera, which monitored the kingpin twenty- four hours a day, seven days a week, was hacked, repeating a loop of a sleeping El Chapo for several hours. We are told it still shows El Chapo sleeping and the technician can’t fix the camera to show a live feed.”

Politics / Ben Murray-bruce, Common Sense Or Hypocrisy? by hayormakaay(m): 4:32pm On Jun 23, 2016 |
Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, representing Bayelsa East senatorial district is always in the news trying to make common sense. However the social media savvy senator did not make much of what he preaches as the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) on Thursday, June 23, took over three companies belonging to him and his family. Senator Bruce said it is possible to fight corruption and grow the economy at the same time The assets are being seized following the failure of Bruce and his brothers to settle an N11bn loan owed Union Bank and acquired by AMCON. Bruce and his brothers used the companies as collateral in 2005 and 2007 to borrow various sums of money from the Union Bank of Nigeria Plc and failed to pay back as promised which is long overdue. AMCON purchased the loan in 2011 to save the bank from collapsing. AMCON takes over Silverbird properties The companies affected by the takeover are Silverbird Galleria Limited, Silverbird Promotions Limited, and Silverbird Showtime Limited. READ ALSO: AMCON: 5 things that will happen to Ben Bruce businesses AMCON had, by notice of appointment dated April 18 appointed Muiz Banire as Receiver/Manager over the sprawling assets of the three companies located at 133 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, Plot No 1161 (Silverbird Galleria); Central Area Cadastral Zone AOO, Abuja; and Abonnema Wharf Road and Abali Park in Port Harcourt City of Rivers State. The takeover followed the interim orders granted by Justice Cecilia Olatoregun- Ishola of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on June 17 which allowed the receiver/ manager to take possession of the said properties. The properties were seen locked up by the agents of the receiver/manager in an exercise carried out under the supervision of men of the Nigerian police as directed by the Court order. When AMCON realized Bruce was not ready to pay back the money, a receiver/manager was appointed the to recover the loan. Commonsense or hypocrisy As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nigerians would question the commonsense in owing so much money when the senator receives huge allowance as wardrobe perks. This is even more so when he comes on social media to preach commonsense revolution and act holier than thou. One would have thought he use part of the his allowance to pay up his debt. So much for commonsense indeed! A senator in Nigeria reportedly earns N12,939,549 million in salaries and allowances per annum. Bruce had called for reduction in allowances of members of the National Assembly which received widespread commendation. A number of lawmakers followed suit, giving support to Bruce’s proposal. But no such reduction in emoluments have so far been effected. Ben Bruce reacts to AMCON attack The common sense advocate in a swift reaction to the incident said the situation is being resolved and things will be back to normal. Senator Bruce said in 36 years, Silverbird has grown and it will face challenges like anybody, adding that it is possible to fight corruption and grow the economy at the same time. Bruce, who is not happy with the poor state of the Nigerian economy, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was more concerned about fighting corruption and is not paying attention to what’s going on with the nation’s economy. Some of the Bayelsa state senator’s followers in reaction said he was right. Others even asked him to hide because they will soon come for him like they have done with other people criticising the government. Ben Bruce the social media critique Ben Bruce, unlike the Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose and Fani-Kayode applies tact and subtlety in his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. Most times he takes to the social media platform, to voice his dissenting views of the policies of the government in power. READ ALSO: Nigerians blast Ben Bruce after AMCON attack He focuses more on the promises made by the Buhari- led All Progressives Congress during the election and how the party has continually failed to live up to them. The senator however said he never criticizes anyone but he raises good government and policy issues as a way of driving change. “I have not criticised any government. I have not criticised APC. I have not criticised PDP. I have not criticised Goodluck Jonathan, neither have I criticised Muhammadu Buhari. I have raised good government issues and policy issues,” he said. Some people have wondered why the senator has not spoken until now. Bruce said he had always spoken about these issues. “These are issues that I have raised all my life. Maybe these people on social media have just discovered Ben Bruce but, go and check the speeches I made two years ago, three years ago, twenty years ago, even in front of President Goodluck Jonathan to ascertain whether they are different from what I am saying now; maybe they just discovered me. Go on youtube and see my speeches,” he said. Hopefully this serves as lesson to politicians so they practice what they preach. |

Crime / Military Stole N70m Cash, Mastermind Bunkering In Niger Delta - Gbaramatu Chief by hayormakaay(m): 3:32pm On Jun 21, 2016 |
Chief Sheriff Mulade, a community chief in Gbaramatu kingdom, in Warri South council area of Delta state, has accused the top hierarchy of the Nigerian military of being the masterminds behind oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region. Mulade, who is the chairman of the Kokodiagbene community in the kingdom, spoke to our reporter when NAIJ.com recently undertook a three-day investigation in the creeks of the Niger Delta into issues concerning the continuing military occupation of the area. Mulade said that the military stole over N70m in cash from the palace of the kingdom, and stole precious objects and valuables from the kingdom. Chief Sheriff Mulade, a community chief in Gbaramatu kingdom, in Warri South council area of Delta state, He said that when the military swooped on the community, the people scampered into the forest, allowing the military to have a field day in the kingdom, invading the palace and stealing anything available in the community on sight. “Who is perpetuating illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta? As an authoritative voice in Gbaramatu and chairman of Kokodiagbene community, I can tell you that the security agents are the perpetrators of illegal bunkering in the region. “Every five to 10 kilometres there is security outpost. There is security gunboat on patrol everywhere. But in between the gunboats and security outpost, there is illegal bunkering going on. The young men doing it are stooges, they are errand boys to the soldiers, they are looking for daily bread. “Do you think those village boys can hire vessels? Do you know how much it takes to hire vessels? Do you know much for hiring local cotonou boats? They are owned by the military hierarchy. “If a junior officer arrests any of those boys, they will have superior call from senior officers, saying ‘leave that one: it belongs to commodore this, commandant that and brigadier general this and that’. Then those of us who stand against them become targets.” READ ALSO: Feature: How Nigerians abuse pedestrian bridges On the issue of theft, Mulade said: “The soldiers stole N70m cash from our palace. We are not saying it because they invaded our community. This is cash kept for the construction of our palace. If you visit Okporoza, our palace is under construction. Chief Sheriff Mulade “This is the palace that all the communities in Gbaramatu kingdom are paying royalties to. We are all building the palace collectively. And the money meant for the palace building was the money stolen by the military when they raided the community in May. They also stole valuables from the community worth hundreds of millions and went away with them. “The money stolen was meant for the kingdom not for individuals. We all mopped up the cash to see that we speed up the building, which is why we have not crowned the new king of the kingdom. If anybody says we are exaggerating the figure, that person is lying. “The valuable goods stolen are worth millions of naira. There are tools, electronics and palace gadgets. The military went away with all of them and left our community naked.” In partial confirmation of Mulade’s allegations, our correspondent who visited the community on a fact-finding mission saw the expansive palace grounds under construction, but also saw that the recent military occupation had seemingly caused the people to abandon the construction, as 90 per cent of buildings in the community were abandoned when NAIJ.com visited Okporoza. All efforts to get reactions from the Military proved abortive. |
Politics / Why Fayose’s Bank Account Frozen,efcc Sources Reveal by hayormakaay(m): 10:52pm On Jun 20, 2016 |
Source at Nigeria's premier anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have revealed that a personal account at the Zenith Bank of Nigeria of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, was frozen in connection with over N1.2billion he took in 2014 from the disgraced National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, to prosecute his re-election as governor. Several of the operatives said the action came at the end of agency’s year-long investigation into the matter. Our sources claim Mr. Fayose received huge sums of money from the office of the NSA that was meant for arms procurement, with which he meticulously bribed security officials and voters to get into the Ekiti governorship for the second time. At least three security agencies which investigated the fraud found that the governor stole monies meant for national security, and deposited them into his personal account. N500m was traced to the now-frozen Zenith Bank account. The Nigerian Army referred |
