The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday in Abuja applauded the decision of Scotland to remain under the United Kingdom and urged Nigerians to remain united. Olisa Metuh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, in a statement, said the decision showed that citizens could indeed push through their resolve to live together peacefully. He added that the decision further proved that citizens could leave together as one people with a common destiny in spite of perceived or real differences. Mr. Metuh stressed the resolve of Nigerians to live in a united and peaceful nation “just like the people of Scotland had chosen to preserve their over 300 years union by voting to stay in Britain”. This, he said, was irrespective of their challenges of ethnic diversity. “We might be different in our tongues, tribes and religious affiliations but, as one people, let us not dwell on these differences. “But rather magnify those things that bind us together so that we continue to live together in peace, love and unity,’’ Mr. Metuh said. According to him, the challenges facing the nation, are transitory and incapable of defeating the collective spirit of the people. He, therefore, urged Nigerians to ensure that their thoughts and actions were always guided by national interest and values that would unite and bind all citizens in love. The PDP spokesman added that it was incontrovertible that Nigeria remained stronger and more prosperous as one nation. The statement called on citizens to put the unity of the nation above every other personal and sectional interest in their dealings and aspirations. It charged all PDP elected and appointed officials at all levels of government nationwide to redouble their efforts in the prudent handling of resources as encapsulated in the party`s manifesto. This, it said, was critical to ensure that the people would not only continue to enjoy the benefits of having the PDP in power but vote enmasse for it in the 2015 general elections. Majority of voters in Scotland voted to stay in the United Kingdom on Thursday. Over 2 million people, or 55.3 per cent of registered voters, said “No” to independence, with over 1.6 million, or 44.7 per cent, in the “Yes” camp. Nigeria Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has been ranked the number one coach in Africa and 14th in the world. He is followed closely at number two by his West African counterpart and former Ghanaian coach, Kwesi Appiah. Keshi, who also won the Confederation of African Football, CAF, best coach of the year in 2013, has coached the national teams of Mali, Togo and, currently, Nigeria. He coached the Super Eagles to winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after a 19-year trophy drought. He also led the team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil where it was knocked out by France in the round of 16. Keshi, who is yet to sign a new contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, was a former Super Eagles defender in his playing days. He is one of only two people, along with Egypt’s Mahmoud El-Gohary, who has won the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and then a coach. The rating was made by the ‘Football Coach World Ranking’ on Friday afternoon. In the world rating, the current German National Coach, Joachim Low, placed at number one followed by the Spain’s head coach, Vicente Del Bosque, whose team had a poor outing at the World Cup in Brazil. Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond admitted defeat in Scotland's independence referendum Friday -- and urged the rest of Scotland to do the same. In a televised statement, he thanked Scotland "for 1.6 million votes for Scottish independence."A turnout of 86% is one of the highest in the democratic world for any such vote, he said. [Original story published at 12.37 p.m. ET] Voters in Scotland made their choice Thursday -- remain part of the United Kingdom, or form their own independent nation. They chose to remain. With 31 of 32 of councils reporting, the "No" campaign had garnered enough votes to secure their victory, and with it Scotland's continued place within the union. The first councils to declare all went to the "No" campaign, as did the capital, Edinburgh, which voted overwhelmingly to stay in the union with 123,927 for "Yes" and 194,628 "No" votes. Argyll and Bute and Aberdeenshire also voted "No." Glasgow delivered a solid win for the independence camp with 194,779 votes for "Yes," and 169,347 for "No," but lead was not big enough to overturn the "No" camp's overall majority so far, which maintains a 8% (54% to 46%) lead over pro-independence camp. http://edition.cnn.com/2014/09/18/world/europe/scotland-independence-vote/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 |
$50 000 not million |
Investigators in South Africa have dismissed Nigerian government’s explanations of the purpose of the $9.3 million cash seized from two Nigerians and an Israeli as “flawed and riddled with discrepancies”. The suspects told South African authorities that the money was meant for the procurement of arms for Nigerian intelligence agencies. “… Although various explanations about the money were given to the investigating officer, these explanations were flawed and riddled with discrepancies,” the South African prosecution agency said in a statement sent to this newspaper. The jet used to ferry the money is owned by Ayo Oritsejafor, who heads the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN. Mr. Oritsejafor, a cleric, said he is not aware of the arms deal. He said although he owns the aircraft, it was managed by another company, Eagle Air Company, which in turn, leased the jet to a third party, Green Coast Produce Limited. The Nigerian government in an unsigned statement, Tuesday, said it has provided South African authorities with documents and receipts to prove that the transaction was “legitimate.” Nigerian security officials also said that it was normal practice to procure arms with cash. “The Federal Government has submitted relevant data and documents on the transaction to South Africa and insisted that the transaction was legitimate. It also clarified that the funds were not laundered or smuggled for any covert manoeuvres. No launderer will be audacious to fly into a country in a chartered jet with such a huge cash,” a statement by PRNigeria, an agency that regularly disseminates media statements for the military, police and other security agencies in Nigeria explained. The statement tallies with what top security officials told PREMIUM TIMES in confidence that the money was legit as the government decided to buy the arms secretly; because the U.S. government had allegedly blocked its efforts to buy arms openly. However, the government’s explanation does not seem to be gaining traction with South African investigators as the Asset Forfeiture Unit, AFU, of the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa, NPA, has obtained a court order to freeze the money. The NPA, in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES Wednesday said that the manner which the money was brought into the country breached the country’s laws that deal with the transfer of foreign exchange of such proportion. “The money was initially detained by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) as it was not disclosed or declared at customs, and was above the prescribed legal limit for the amount of cash that may be brought into the country,” it said in a statement. Investigators also cast serious doubt on the Nigerian government’s explanation that the money was meant for the procurement of arms and that it has provided documents and receipt to back its legitimacy, raising serious concern that suspects might have been in the process of laundering the money before it was intercepted. The NPA said its investigation shows that Tier One Services Group, the firm Nigerian government claimed it wanted to procure the arms from, is not authorised to sell or rent military hardware. “In court papers, the NPA submitted evidence that Tier One is not registered with the National Conventional Arms Control Committee and is thus not authorised to enter into any agreements regarding the sale and/or rental of military equipment,” the statement read. Tier One has apparently issued an invoice to a Cyprus based company, ESD International Group Ltd, ESD, in respect of the procurement of armaments and helicopters to be delivered to Nigeria. However, South African investigators said the time when the invoice was prepared and the time the money was brought in threw up some serious issues of its true intent. The money was ferried to South Africa less than a week from the date the invoice was prepared (September 8, 2014). The involvement of a Cyprus based company also heightens the suspicion that this may be a case of classical money laundering. Cyprus is notorious for its secretive banking system, which attracts shady characters and corrupt politicians looking to dry-clean ill-gotten funds. The NPA added that the transaction did not follow normal procedure in the procurement of the kind of equipment it was alleged to have been meant for. https://m.premiumtimesng.com/headlines/168306-seized-9-3-million-nigerian-governments-explanations-flawed-south-africa.html |

Another sad one there. What will my fatherland ever get right! So unfortunate |
cramjones: No matter the circumstances, it is wrong to attack your GOC. The civil court will tag it as an attempted murder. Although the capital punishment is a very harsh one, but it will correct some of the indiscipline going on in our armed forces, I believe that such punishments should be meted out to those that have stolen our commonwealth. Don't you think that it is time to execute the likes of Ali Modu Sherrif, Tony Anenih, Ayo Orisejiafor, Steven Oransaye, Mr. Miner and many others? I strongly believe they do not deserve a place on the surface of the Nigerian soil, their lots all lie underneath the earth. These people and many others both in the PDP and APC have destroyed this country by bleeding the funding meant for the common Nigeria citizens. I remain an advocate for capital punishment to correct indiscipline and corruption in Nigeria (Buhari will gladly execute these people without blinking). This is the only way to minimize corruption!well said. Their offence is a grave one but still less on a general ground than those of the people we celebrate today .what is even more risible about this confused entity called Nigeria is that we might wake up tomorrow and hear that they have been granted presidential pardon by our ever 'generous' clueless leader who has traded his dignity and integrity for his selfish 2nd term ambition |
eyeview: Before we jump into irrational conclusions, let me educate us all on the business of aviation services and chartered flights. Most of these private jet owners usually lease out their planes to the numerous aviation service firms in the country. They do this when they are not immediately using the aircraft. The aviation firm in turn give it out to various clients on time charter. That's when you hear of 'chartered flight'. It simply means the clients has chartered the plane for his personal use for a period.noted buT still I am anxiously awaiting more facts on the issue |
Truly when a tenant stays too long in your house, his next target would be how to snatch it from you...I just hope that this people will not begin to drive us out of lagos soon |
Majesty2OA: Nigeria stinks with immeasurable corruption! They may thereafter accusse the moslems of promoting insurgency and tag the APC as a Boko Haram party while the real sponsor of the sect is PDP and their christians. What was CAN president's jet doing with such huge sum and smuggling weapons for who?Right now my mind is blank...just like I am out of ideas. It is just so unfortunate that people who are supposed to uphold sanity are those who we find at depth of heinous attrocities that we that even look up to them as role models are far better than them in purity. What is even more painful is the slow poke who is an iconic figure of corruption we have at the helms of affairs. I lost faith in this man since his swift exenorating of okah who was caught masterminding the Oct 1st bombing in Abuja in this same South Africa. |
An investigation by SaharaReporters has revealed that a Nigerian private jet caught in Johannesburg with $10 million belongs to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Mr. Oritsejafor is also a close confidant of President Goodluck Jonathan. The CAN leader’s private plane with US registration number N808HG was one of two jets cited by South African officials on September 5 Mr. Oritsejafor's jet arrived South Africa with $9.3 million cash loaded in several suitcases. News of the seizure of the cash broke over the weekend, triggering questions about the ownership of the jets and weapons they intended to purchase. Nigerian aviation authorities disclosed that one of the jets belonged to Pastor Oritsejafor while the second one was registered to Felix Idiga, the owner of Jafac Aviation Limited. Two Nigerians and an Israeli defense contractor, Eyal Mesiaka arrived in the jet when they were accosted in South Africa authorities. A South African source disclosed that Mr. Oritsejafor's jet was released after top Nigerian officials intervened, claiming that the weapons to be purchased had the official blessing of the Nigerian government. The jet arrived with two plastic suitcases and two hand luggages with combination locks only known to the Isreali contractor, according to CityPress Earlier today, SaharaReporters rang the mobile telephone number of Mr. Idiga. At first, he pretended and claimed that he was the Aide De camp to Mr. Idiga. But when our correspondent identified himself as a reporter from SaharaReporters, he owned he started answering questions relating to the issues but claimed the jet we published on our site wasn’t his own. Asked if he knew of another private jet named in apparent arms buy in South Africa, he asked where we got our information after we read the jet registration number to him. He then denied that his jet was involved, before hastily hanging up the phone. We were unable to reach Pastor Oritsejafor before going to press. http://saharareporters.com/2014/09/15/arms-smuggling-jet-caught-10million-south-africa-linked-can-president-ayo-oritsejafor |

T.B. Joshua links building collapse that killed 17 to strange aircraft Micheal Abimboye - 2 hours agoHEADLINE The Founder and General Overseer of The Synagogue Church of All Nations, Temitope Joshua, has linked the collapse of an uncompleted Guest House owned by his church to a “strange aircraft” which he said hovered around the building before its collapse. Mr. Joshua said the plane hovered around the collapsed building for over 30 minutes. The clergyman spoke just as emergency officials told this newspaper that 17 people died in the incident while 123 others were evacuated alive and rushed to hospital. Briefing journalists, including a PREMIUM TIMES reporter, on the incident on Saturday, the pastor played a CCTV footage of a flying aircraft to back his claim. In the footage, a plane was seen flying over the collapsed guest house at four different times on Friday morning — 11: 30 a.m, 11: 43 a.m, 11:45 a.m and 11: 54 a.m. The building collapsed at 12:44 p.m Friday afternoon. PREMIUM TIMES was unable to authenticate the footage, and it remains unclear whether there is indeed a relationship between the flying aircraft and the collapse of the building. But in his speech, Mr. Joshua insisted the aircraft, which flew past almost an hour before the incident, was responsible for the collapse of the building. The pastor said he was the target of the attack. “Immediately I left the prayer room (which is a 10-minute drive form the church) for the church, I got a call that a jet was hovering over the prayer room but as I finished bathing and moved to the prayer room, I got another call that the jet has moved to the church and that was it,” Mr. Joshua said. “Members cannot be the target, the easier way to stop this church is to get the head and from my explanation, you know the truth,” he added. Mr. Joshua called on security agents to study the CCTV footage as they investigate the incident. He promised to speak further on the incident during service on Sunday. “Service will hold tomorrow and I will state my position tomorrow in service, you can watch it live on Emmanuel TV,” he said. He also apologised to the press following the hostile treatment of journalists by members of his church. “We are very sorry on their behalf,” he said. “Our members are not hostile. The Bible is our standard. Even the Bible today, without the press, it cannot be accessible to many. Our members have respect for the press. When we fight the press, we are fighting Emmanuel TV. They value you people.” Meanwhile, rescue operations at the site of the collapsed hotel is still going on. Authorities of the National Emergency Management Association, NEMA, said 17 people died in the incident while 123 others were rescued alive. Speaking on the attitude of church members, NEMA spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye, said, “They are not too hostile neither are they receptive. We handled the equipment while they handled crowd control.” As at 5:50 p.m. when our reporter left the scene, ambulances were still rushing rescued victims to the nearby Igando General Hospital. The church members however remained hostile to journalists despite the apology by Mr. Joshua .https://m.premiumtimesng.com/headlines/168088-t-b-joshua-links-building-collapse-that-killed-17-to-strange-aircraft-says-he-was-target-of-attack.html |

BY PR NIGERIASEP 13, 2014 In response to demands of Nigerians for some evidence to support the complete routing of insurgents who attempted to capture Konduga on Friday, the Nigerian military has released some pictures from the battle scene. However, in deference to sensibilities of Nigerians, pictures that may offend the senses were not included. PRNigeria was told that the pictures were released only for the purpose of reassuring our compatriots that the military is capable and ready to defend them. It could be recalled that after about three hours of fierce fighting yesterday, Nigerian troops routed the Boko Haram fighting force of over a hundred terrorists. Further to the staggering loss of men, Boko Haram also suffered extensive losses in their equipment. In a previous statement by Colonel Timothy Antigha of Army Public Relations Directorate three Hilux and one Buffalo vehicles with mounted Anti-aircraft guns, three General Purpose Machine guns, over 30 AK 47 rifles and two global positioning systems have been recovered among other items. Four Nigerian soldiers were wounded in action. The entire area is still being combed for terrorists who may have escaped with bullet wounds. Morale of Nigerian troops remains very high according to the military sources.

I really feel for that country. I think the situation there is no longer a Liberian thing, the whole world needs to rise to this issue and help save that country from an impending extermination. Because if we say we want to leave a mad man to bury his dead mother by himself, friends, he will spoil things. |
It is just so sad that hardly is there any day we do not wake up to here that some person(s) were killed or kidnappped in this country:a clear picture of our how shambolic our security apparatuses have turned. |
