Good move! I think we have to begin to look in the direction of Russia because the west has really failed us |
The Black Stars coach is about losing his job and could be replaced by Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac who is already in town By Kent Mensah Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is on the verge of losing his job and the Ghana FA is expected to make it official soon. Goal Ghana understands that the severance package of the local coach is being discussed and a meeting between the FA and coach Appiah is scheduled for Friday, September 12 to finalise the parting agreement. Appiah led the four-time African champions to their worst ever World Cup campaign in Brazil when the Black Stars picked just a point after three group games at the last global football showpiece. Two midfielders - Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari – were expelled in camp over issues of insubordination. Sources have revealed that coach Appiah is yet to be officially informed of the decision but has been hinted and has psyched himself up for any “bad news within the next 24 hours.” The Ghana FA is in discussion with the headline sponsors of the Black Stars – the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation – and other stakeholders to agree on the compensation package of the ‘Silent Killer.’ Meanwhile, Appiah’s former boss Milovan Rajevac is in Ghana and has been tipped to be his heir. Efforts to reach the Ghana FA spokesperson Ibrahim Saanie Daara have proved futile. http://www.goal.com/en-gh/news/4389/ghana/2014/09/11/5098851/ghana-coach-appiah-faces-imminent-sack-rajevac-to-take-over |
The Washington Post WorldViews This may be the most inappropriate political hashtag of the year By Ishaan Tharoor September 8 It was the social media campaign of the year. #BringBackOurGirls awoke the world to the ravages of Boko Haram, an al-Qaeda-linked terror group in Nigeria, and the plight of the millions of people who live in the midst of their insurgency. At the heart of the message were hundreds of missing schoolgirls, abducted in April from the remote village of Chibok by Boko Haram fighters, who vowed to make them into slaves. The #BringBackOurGirls hashtag channeled both sympathy from abroad and local outrage and concern in Nigeria, with many angry at the government of President Goodluck Jonathan for being unable to free the captured women. But four months later, the girls have yet to be brought back despite the efforts of the Nigerian military as well as U.S. counter-terrorism forces deployed in neighboring Chad. More than 200 girls remain missing in suspected Boko Haram captivity. Others have perished from snakebite, illness and deprivation in the wild. Boko Haram itself has continued its slaughter this summer, and seized more territory in the country's restive northeast. Over the weekend, it stormed towns along Nigeria's border with Cameroon, killing dozens of innocents. Nigerian forces are now fighting Boko Haram in pitched battles around Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, the main hotbed of Boko Haram's operations. The U.N. reports that at least 1.5 million people have been displaced by the conflict since Jonathan's government declared a state of emergency in May. But the gravity of the moment hasn't stopped some in Nigeria from appropriating the tragic hashtag for rather cynical purposes. Banners emerged in the capital Abuja over the weekend showing Jonathan alongside a new slogan: #BringBackGoodluck2015. The campaign appears to be the work of supporters of the president, keen for his reelection in presidential polls next February. It's not clear whether Jonathan has officially endorsed the new hashtag, but its seeming ubiquity suggests that he is not opposed to it. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2014/09/08/this-may-be-the-most-inappropriate-political-hashtag-of-the-year/ After the spank,he finally realizes;what a funny Nigeria! Imagine if their family members had been among the missing girls...smh |

Eagles risk disqualification if any member of the Nigerian team comes out with unacceptable gear in today’s Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Congo. Nigeria, the defending African champion, takes on Congo in Calabar, in one of the AFCON qualifiers with Nigeria’s midfielder, Mikel Obi, expected to appear with protective gears against the Ebola virus ravaging the West Africa sub-region. English Premiership sides, Chelsea and Manchester City provided both Mikel and African Footballer of the Year, Yaya Toure kits expected to protect them from infection of Ebola for the Afcon qualifiers. Yaya Toure stars for The Ivory Coast against Sierra Leone. However, FIFA warned that while both Nigeria and Ivorian federations have the right to protect their players, they could be turned down by match officials if they fail to comply with the dressing code. “FIFA only permits players to wear a cap that covers their head to the hairline, but does not extend below the ears to cover the neck,” FIFA said in an e-mail. “ We don’t condone an infringement of the Laws of the Game. “The match commissioner and match referee for the Afcon qualifiers will apply correctly the Laws of the game,’’ FIFA added. http://tribune.com.ng/news/sports/item/15307-ebola-fifa-warns-eagles-against-improper-dressing |
54 Thousands of youth volunteers wants to fight Boko Haram Sahara Reporters Media With military officials and the government of Borno State quietly backing away from claims that the strategic town of Bama was still in the control of Nigerian soldiers, at least 12,000 volunteers gathered today in Maiduguri to offer their services in the war against the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram. The volunteers, who gathered at the Maiduguri palace of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Ibn- Garbai Elkanemi, urged the Nigerian government to accept their services in the war against terror. Our correspondent reported that thousands of ex-service men, hunters, and youths said they were ready to become part of the increasingly critical war against Boko Haram, which recently has captured several towns in Borno and Yobe States and killed more than 2,000 civilians in the first half of 2014, according to Human Rights Watch. Some of the ex-servicemen, who had served in the military, the police, and with the SSS, said today that they wished to join youths in the civilian joint task force (JTF) to stop Boko Haram’s incessant attacks and recent string of triumphs over demoralized Nigerian soldiers based in the violence-ravaged northeast of Nigeria. The prospective volunteers trooped today to the palace of the Shehu of Borno to seek his support and cooperation in their desire to combat the seemingly energized and increasingly more brutal Islamist insurgents. Some of the vigilante volunteers vowed to enter Sambisa forest and other hideouts to hunt down Boko Haram militants and bring an end to the ongoing insurgency. Over the last three weeks, Boko Haram insurgents launched a series of attacks on several towns in Borno and neighboring states, including Damboa, Gamboru Ngala, Bama and Banki. The terrorists have seized numerous towns and engaged in widespread slaughter of civilians. Thousands of people have been displaced, some of them taking refuge in neighboring west African countries. Some of the volunteers said their goal was to resist Boko Haram’s reign of terror and to reverse the insurgent group’s seizure of important towns. Ex-staff sergeant Yahaya Suleiman, who fought in Nigeria’s civil war, urged the Nigerian government to accept the offer from him and others. “We are fully ready to join the military in fighting against terrorism. Enough is enough. All we need is support from the federal government to stop this madness.” The dramatic gathering came a day after the Shehu of Borno suggested that people of different faiths observe three days of alms, prayers and fasting in order to restore peace to the state and the country at large. The Shehu also called on members of the vigilante youth, popularly known as 'Civilian JTF,' to always abide by the rule of law while discharging their civic responsibilities. Addressing the volunteers, the traditional ruler commended the effort of the civilian JTF in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency. He urged them to always follow the directives of the military and other security agencies. He added that the civilian JTF had helped to dislodge the sect from Maiduguri and surrounding areas. He encouraged other besieged towns and communities to set up their own volunteers to help fight terrorism. http://saharareporters.com/2014/09/04/maiduguri-12000-civilian-volunteers-demand-permission-government-go-after-boko-haram |
It is a good move but not the best. I would have prefered a Nigeria Town anyway...we should not always show the world that we are not one in this country NB : I am a typical yoruba man |
Exodus2k: The problem of Nigeria today is hiding the truth, FFK have state the fact as a Statesman. Am waiting for APC version hope we stop this madness called Boko Haramffk is not in anyway near people we ought to refer to as a statesman :if only we had a good judicial system in this country that man would still be putting on a numbered jersey behind bars by now...He is not even supposed to come out and talk about any national issue |
If this is true then putin has worn this one because I am pretty sure no country will enter into war with Russia this time considering the heavy cost of lives and material it Would require |
This man is doing nothing but what he is paid for. They are only using BH as a political weapon against one another and score vital political points...BTW,why is he so quick to indict some people while exonerating others! NB :I strongly condemn BH activities |
What still baffles me is how the Airforce jet had to hit a wrong target. It is such a shame that we have found ourselves in a country where nothing is ever done right. We keep exposing to the whole wide world how incapable we are to get anything right . I wonder when Nigeria will wakeup and become countries like Iran and Israel that took their destinies into their own hands and look inwards to tackle their problems, and not always running to these pretentious enemies we call friends(west) who ofcourse have their own challenges too, believing that they have the panacea for all our problems. I submit |
Radamel Falcao has been at Monaco since May 2013 Manchester United have agreed to sign Colombia striker Radamel Falcao in a £6m season-long loan deal from Monaco. Falcao, who must pass a medical, has been linked during the summer with a move away from the French Ligue 1 side, whom he joined for £50m in May 2013. Falcao, 28, has scored 11 goals in 20 league appearances for Monaco, and has two in three games this season. Falcao would be United's second deadline-day arrival after the £13.8m signing of Daley Blind from Ajax. The versatile Netherlands international, 24, has signed a four-year deal with United. Falcao's move, meanwhile, includes an option for United to buy the striker for £43.5m at the end of the loan spell. Louis van Gaal's side, like most of Europe's top clubs, had been made aware of Falcao's availability over the past 48 hours. Premier League champions Manchester City opted against pursuing a deal as they could not make space in their squad for the Colombian. Falcao had also been linked with Arsenal, as well as Italian champions Juventus and Spanish side Real Madrid. Rumours of a move to European champions Real gathered pace on Saturday when a comment on his official Twitter account, which was later deleted, read: "Dream come true #halamadrid". In a later post Falcao indicated the first tweet was fake, saying: "I have to refute a story about a tweet I have not done and that is a photo montage." On Monday, Madrid signed United striker Javier Hernandez, 26, on a season-long loan. United have also sold midfielder Shinji Kagawa, 25, to Borussia Dortmund for an undisclosed fee as Van Gaal reshapes his squad Speculation over his future grew when he was dropped from Monaco's squad shortly before Saturday's draw against Lille, after being expected to start. Falcao has made three appearances in Ligue 1 this season, after returning from anterior cruciate ligament damage he sustained in January, which kept him out of this summer's World Cup. He previously played for Portuguese side Porto and Spanish club Atletico Madrid, where he scored 35 goals in 46 league game. Manchester United boss Van Gaal has signed defenders Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, midfielder Ander Herrera, and forward Angel Di Maria since he was appointed David Moyes's successor earlier this year. United have made a poor start to the Premier League season, collecting two points from three games, and scoring only twice. . Source:http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/29011493

Underlining the immense risks taken by those working in West Africa to understand and combat the worsening Ebola outbreak, five co-authors of an important new Ebola study were killed by the virus before their research was published. The study, published Thursday in the journal Science, found that the virus has mutated during the outbreak — something that could hinder diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The five deceased co-authors, who were from Sierra Leone’s Kenema Government Hospital Lassa fever facility, worked with the study’s lead researchers at Harvard University to examine the deadliest Ebola outbreak in history. In all, the research involved more than 50 co-authors. It’s an extraordinary study, and it came with an extraordinary toll. Pardi Sabeti, whose Harvard lab oversaw the genetic sequencing at the center of the research, told The Post’s Brady Dennis that the the experience of working on the international study was “one of the most rewarding and devastating experiences of my life,” with the thrill of conducting the collaborative research tempered by the sadness of losing numerous colleagues who were working on the front lines. The study demonstrates just how effective an international research effort can be in the middle of a global health crisis. Researchers sequenced the virus genomes from 78 patients in the current outbreak, starting with its early days in the spring. Among other things, the international team of researchers managed to trace the outbreak in Sierra Leone to a single funeral in the country. Researchers discovered that a pregnant Kenema Government Hospital Ebola patient had, along with about a dozen other women who were also infected, attended the funeral of a traditional healer who was treating Ebola victims on the Sierra Leone-Guinea border. On the same day the findings were published, Science wrote a separate piece about the five researchers who died while working on the study. Mbalu Fonnie, an experienced nurse at the Kenema Government Hospital, was among the five victims. Her specialty? Managing advanced Lassa fever infections — a disease with symptoms similar to Ebola — in pregnant women. Fonnie was caring for one of her co-workers, who was pregnant and infected with Ebola, when she contracted the disease herself. According to study co-author Robert Garry, Fonnie was the “matron of nursing” at the Sierra Leone hospital. Alex Moigboi, Fonnie’s fellow nurse, who contracted Ebola while treating the same pregnant colleague. He had more than 10 years of experience working with Lassa fever patients. Alice Kovoma was also infected while helping Fonnie and Moigboi treat their colleague. Garry told Science that Kovoma was “a wonderful person … very dedicated and professional with a devotion to the patients and her teammates.” She was a nurse for six years in the Lassa fever ward. Mohamed Fullah worked as a lab technician on the study. He taught at Eastern Polytechnic College in Sierra Leone, and also worked in the Lassa fever facility. His colleagues believe that Fullah contracted the disease from a family member — several relatives had died of the virus in the current outbreak, which has killed at least 1,552 people, according to the World Health Organization. Sheik Umar Khan was the director of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation’s Lassa fever program and was directly involved in Sierra Leone’s national response to the Ebola outbreak. He was a well-respected expert on both Lassa fever and Ebola. At the time of his death, in late July, Khan was hailed as a national hero. He treated more than 100 patients in the outbreak before he contracted the disease himself. In a June interview with Reuters, Khan spoke of the dangers health-care workers face while working with Ebola: “I am afraid for my life, I must say, because I cherish my life. Health workers are prone to the disease because we are the first port of call for somebody who is sickened by disease. Even with the full protective clothing you put on, you are at risk. Khan was treated at a Doctors Without Borders facility after contracting the virus. His death prompted an international discussion after Doctors Without Borders was forced to defend its decision against giving Khan an experimental drug to treat the disease. On the same day the study was published, the WHO warned that the current outbreak could infect more than 20,000 people before it’s over. On Friday, officials in Senegal announced that the country had its first confirmed case of Ebola. Five countries — Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria and now Senegal — have confirmed Ebola infections within their borders. (Ebola cases have been reported in Congo, too, but health officials there have said it’s a different strain of the deadly virus, not connected to the outbreak in West Africa.) There have been 3,069 Ebola infections recorded by the WHO, and more than half of those infected have died, according to the WHO. Source: Washington Post |
