Ipfreely: Quit your selective interpretation and read ALL my messages to understand my take. Don't read just one part of a collective and respond to it. That would be taking things totally out of context. No need to feel attacked oh. There's no selective interpretation anywhere. Your post seemed to be pointing at (almost justifying) the reason the company did what they did. The buyer wasn't car savvy, they played on his enthusiasm and less than average car knowledge (tell me if i missed any other thing in you post oh). Yes, the buyer perhaps didn't know much about cars and he was eager to get a good deal, doesn't give them the right to take advantage of him. That's where integrity comes in. They should give quality service to all their customers regardless of their knowledge on cars, rather than take advantage of less informed people. Any company or organisation should be trustworthy so your clients are sure they are truly getting what they are paying for. I hope you get my point. Cheers |

timifakay: Argh! They must have given him the 2011 year of manufacture report they gave to you. Did you actually sell the car for 650k? Tell him to slip several notes into the car, undersea, fuse box, sunguard and the likes... Then sell back to cars45 so next buyer too can have an heads up if lucky to check any of those places while inspecting. Thats not enough oh! They sold the car for 1.6, bought it back for 650k, sold it again for 1.4. Imagine they buy it back for 500k; that means they made (correct me if I'm wrong) 1.85 on that one car within say 1 month + That's the height of fraud! Haba! @hayastark abeg reach out to the other buyer and hear his story, then you two should take them to court! |

Ipfreely: As much as i don't wish to blame the victim, I do have to say that you don't seem particularly auto savvy, to have paid that much for a Nigerian used vehicle, without due diligence. These guys played in your enthusiasm and your less than average auto knowledge.
The second they said you couldn't test drive, you should have just called it quits. There were SO many red flags in this entire sordid experience.
The vehicle was driving position converted? And had all these other issues? So are you saying the company did well by taking advantage of the fact that he isnt "auto savvy". That is the major problem here. We lack integrity! An average Nigerian that doesnt know much about cars cannot walk into a dealership and trust that he will get what he truly paid for. The OP got ripped off and frankly I think he should sue them. He has their report, he should get a lawyer, have them authenticate the document and get them to audit their record and make them pay. What nonsense! erico2k2: very correct, I remember back in the days as a teenager went to Alaba Int mkt to buy a CD player ahah, The seller tried the set and it wont work, he now told me *lets go to the repairer he will fix it and U can pay* we went, its like Mendi(JAS), it was 20 mins later my brain picked and Im like Hold on a minute, why buy a fixed stereo when I can go nxt shop, nah so I remove sharp sharp This goes to show that the lack of integrity has been in us from the ages past. If the small shops in Alaba market are trying to play a fast one on people, should company like Cars45 also do that?? A company that should be trying to build a global brand. |

Hi everyone, I would like to thank everyone that has filled the questionnaire, I really appreciate the effort. May God fulfil your heart desires. As for the others that are yet to fill the questionnaire, I would like to implore you to please do so. It’s a 1-minute questionnaire about your experience on Canadian websites. I need the data for a paper. It’s just 7 questions, to which you just have to tick your answers. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TVRC5B7I promise that it’s short and quick. I wish you all a lovely week ahead. |

TWoods: The rules in the US are quite clear. Unlike the UK, you are not automatically asked to leave after your degree. In fact there is a 12 month to 3 year post study work scheme that almost every graduate qualifies for. You also have a dedicated work visa program that has remained fairly liberal. If the UK rules also applied to the US, there would be no point providing advise on the US threads at all. You’re making an apples to oranges comparison. Point exactly! Now you know this! Would you, with you church mind, still advice someone to go to UK, spend all that money and tell them "oh dont worry you might get a job" when you know the chances of that are slim to none?? This info is out there but for some reason we find that people are still going to UK with the hope that they'll find a way to stay behind. Lets clear their doubt. Make them realise it isn't going to happen. I hope you get it. Cheers |
Travel › Re: Nigerians - Leave The UK (United Kingdom) ALONE!!! by Heimdall: 7:52pm On Feb 26, 2018 |
TWoods: We are having a silly back and forth. The government makes the laws... it really doesn’t matter a jot what a school tells you. It is your responsibility to know what the law says. Airlines fly you to the US daily and Disney wants your money too, regardless of what they say, it is your responsibility to know that you cannot simply choose to live in Florida forever on a visiting visa.
That is just plain facts... feel free twisting yourself into a pretzel in order to blame everyone but yourself for your own poor planning.
Besides, anyone who spends millions to obtain a masters in the UK gets no sympathy from me. You could have obtained the same degree for far less in the US or Canada... again it boils down to proper planning. I’ve spent enough time on these boards to realize that this is the fundamental problem of most Nigerians. We are basically lazy and shortsighted, preferring to rely on “favor” and “prayer” rather than a clear set of facts and logic. We know the immigration rules, but we prefer to go ahead, “believing god” that “our case is different”. When it doesn’t, we put up long threads blaming the UK government and it’s schools. UK schools exist to make as much money from the clueless, if I were in their shoes, I’d do the same too. It is not their responsibility to teach you how to think. You are right when you've talked about lack of planning but is it now wrong to start a thread aimed at opening the eyes of fellow "clueless" Nigerians. We still have people on this same thread saying things like "why didnt you apply earlier" or "its because you didnt study this course". So we're saying why will you carry all that money to UK only to return immediately after, when there are other countries you can go to. Hence the topic of the thread "...Leave UK alone" |
Travel › Re: Nigerians - Leave The UK (United Kingdom) ALONE!!! by Heimdall: 7:36pm On Feb 26, 2018 |
dupyshoo: Hehehe!!!
I schooled in England not Scotland. If my brother/sister gets the opportunity to study for free in the UK, I will tell them to take it. Though, I won't advise them to come and spend their money here.
With regard to your other comments, first, how many of them actually go for apprenticeship? They are very few. I am a STEM ambassador and I know the struggle to get home students to study Engineering. Even British-Nigeria teenagers don't even want to study Engineering. Most of them will rather go for easier courses. I could count the number of British students studying EE while I was in Uni.
Yes, a lot of them work in construction Industry. Most of them are getting old and they need young people to fill their positions. Even those that are working just mastered what they are told to do. They sometimes struggle to make decision outside the norm as they lack understanding of the theory behind what they are doing.
I never said you will surely get a job if you apply early. I actually agree with a lot of your comments. In fact, some companies will not even allow you to go further once you state you need sponsorship. I applied for over 200 jobs myself and got rejected for over 90% of the applications I made. Did about 5-6 assessment exercise and got 2 offers. That is less than 2%. You can imagine the amount of effort I put into it as it can take you hours to even complete 1 application. Despite the effort I put in, it is not just by my effort but favour as I know a lot of people that put more effort than I did but still did not yield any results. You've said it yourself. That's the message @aphrodite007 and @saouri have been trying to pass across. Most people don't know how difficult it is to get a job in UK. Why will you spend so much money and end up having only 2% chance of getting a job afterwards. |

BossLaifay: Don't mind them joor! Making the people that couldn't get jobs or sponsorship think it is their fault! "If only they started applying early" "If only they were more focused" "If only the did adequate research" But alas, all lies! People did all this and more still no hope! So let them learn from other peoples mistakes and experiences and then make an informed decision. Gbam! That's the essence of the thread right there! The false hope with which Nigerians travel is what we need to eradicate. |
Travel › Re: Nigerians - Leave The UK (United Kingdom) ALONE!!! by Heimdall: 12:01pm On Feb 26, 2018 |
dupyshoo: I agree with a lot of your comments but I don't agree with the bolded. Engineering is one of profession that it is easier to get sponsorship as British citizens hardly study Engineering. I actually know 2 people that got jobs as Elect/Elect Engineers in the UK after their MSc. last September and were sponsored. They had no work experience from Nigeria as they were fresh graduates. These people even came to UK on PTDF scholarship. So, it is all win-win for them.
I am an Engineer too and I know quite a number of my friends that we came in together that have changed their sponsors while on Tier 2. I will be lying if I say it is easy to get a job as a lot of companies don't even understand the Tier 2 program, hence they don't even want to hear that you require sponsorship.
As a lot of people have advised, think twice before coming to the UK to study. If you however decide to come, don't feel too bad if you don't get a job and you have to go back. It is a risk. It was easier before post study work visa was cancelled.
For those that still have plans to come to UK to study, I will advise they start applying for jobs as soon as they get into UK. Most grad jobs open in October and they are closed by December/January. The mistake a lot of international students make is that they don't start applying early. Before they realise what is happening, all the grad programmes in big companies that sponsor are gone. Those that even start early don't understand how to answer their competency questions. I learnt in the hard way when I had my first telephone interview and I could not even answer any of the questions intelligently. I had to take my time to learn and I never failed any telephone interview after then. This the edge people on post study visa had. They would have spent a year to understand the system which will boost their chance of securing a job. That's 2 people out of how many oh? Professionals in STEM courses are actually in high demand but like you said most companies won't even want to hear that you require sponsorship. If they were to sponsor someone, wouldn't they sponsor a more experienced professional as opposed to sponsoring a fresh graduate? |
Travel › Re: Nigerians - Leave The UK (United Kingdom) ALONE!!! by Heimdall: 11:45am On Feb 26, 2018 |
TWoods: I get your point but I think its rather misplaced. The UK government makes it clear that a study visa is a temporary visa, obtained only for the purpose of studying in the UK, after which you are expected to return to your home country. No where is there any expectation that you will be allowed to stay permanently or get a job. The basic premise of a non-immigrant visa is that it is TEMPORARY and that the UK provides you no guarantees of "return on your investment". On that basis, I struggle to see why the thread is relevant at all... The UK government makes it clear, no doubt, but it doesn't stop Nigerians from hoping they can get a job and stay back on completion of their studies...that's what most Nigerians travelling to the UK hopefor. Now telling them "oh i know someone that knows someone that got a job" or "you can get a job if you study IT or nursing" will further mislead them. You're just giving them false hope. What this thread is doing is reiterating the fact that it is VERY HIGHLYunlikely to get a job after masters in the UK. Its good Nigerians get first hand info from other people that have experience the bitter reality in the UK. Do you honestly think most of the people going there are going just to get a degree and return to Naija without any thing to show? Until the UK government reviews their immigration policy, this thread is very relevant. Nigerians should stop thinking they can get a job there. Leave UK alone, don't flush your hard earned money down the drain. |

Were you picked up at the airport by a rep from the university? If so, why didn't the international office at the school provide a sim for you? My suggestion to anyone travelling is this, before your trip, you can download an offline version of the entire Ireland on google maps (its about 400mb). This way you can search for places even without data. For those who don't know how to do this, just follow the steps below: 1. Download google maps (if you don't already have it) 2. Search for "Ireland" and select any of the locations (perhaps Dublin international airport). 3. Click the bottom to view more info on the selected item and click download. 4. Ensure the blue rectangle is covering the entire map of Ireland. 5. Click download and wait for it to finish. **Please note that this version will only be available for about 30 days after the download so it's advisable to do this just before you leave for Ireland. I hope someone finds this helpful
