Politics / Nigeria Is Too Poor For Our Leaders To Act Like Multi-billionaires-ben Bruce by hejda(m): 11:30am On May 12, 2015
Ben Murray Bruce Chairman of Silverbird Group is the Senator elect representing Bayelsa East and will assume of office for the first time come May 29th 2015. In a speech at the recent Silverbird man of the year awards, Senator elect Ben Bruce took to the podium and addressed the prevailing issues facing Nigeiris, economy and people. He was frank and direct and held nothing back in declaring is "Modus Operandi" when he assumes office.

Below is the transcript of his powerful speech, which has taken over the internet.

State governments have no money, outside i was talking to the Ekiti state governor, and he cannot pay salaries, forget about capital developments. and debts he inherited, most states in the country today, if they were a company, they would file for bankruptcy. and no company would loan them money, the federal government inclusive.

To say we are broke is and understatement, a few thing must happen, we must grow the economy
and we must shrink the way we spend money. The problem about Nigeria is not about the north and the south, Christianity and Islam, its not about APC versus PDP, the problem about Nigeria is right versus wrong.

Today i was interviewed by bloomberg magazine the other day, and they asked me about the problem in the North East versus the South South, and i said to him, the issues in the North East, is not about religion and the issue in the south is not about what you think it is, the issue is very simple.

We have a small minority of people, the leadership in Nigeria, consuming all the resources in our nation and leaving the rest of us in abject poverty, that cannot work. we must learn to be humble we must learn to conserve what we have, and we must learn to be kind enough on the rest of us to have enough food to eat, children to go to school, healthcare facilities for everyone, education, job, infrastructural development for our people. the population control policy, 170 million people, most us leave on 2$ a day, not enough money to survive.

Education / Nigerian students Are Studying In Malaysia. by hejda(m): 8:12am On Apr 27, 2015
The first African-Asian conference was held in Bandung in 1955. 60 year later, leaders are marking that historic event in Jakarta and students from northern Nigeria are studying in Malaysia.

While leaders of Asian and African nations were meeting in Jakarta to coordinate the promotion of common strategic interests, Musa Adamu was giving a lecture to his students at Bayero University, reaping the rewards of a year that he spent as a Nigerian student in Asia.

The 28-year-old has been lecturing in civil engineering for the last 12 months. He obtained his master’s degree at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor Bahru in Malaysia in a highly practical example of Asian-African partnership.

He said that when he returned to Nigeria he “presented his work to Bayero University. Immediately they gave me an appointment within two weeks and after that I was taking the courses.”

You probably misunderstood me. Nigerians do have creativity and drive and there are lots of sincere Nigerians. However, we seem to be aunable to exhibit these traits on our own soil.

Understandably, there's so much limiting us as a people. We have bad leaders who are more concerned about looting than actually serving the people. Poor infrastructure, lack of security and for some reason I don't seem to understand find it necessary to hold on to past beliefs and practises that have never had any positive impact on our development all in the name of tradition and culture. For instance, recently during the outbreak of a "disease" in Ondo state, instead of the people to have carried out research as to what would have led to the deaths of the victims, people were busy offering sacrifices to "gods" that are incapable of providing constant electricity.

The major reasons Africans migrate is because we lack the creativity, drive and sincerity to build our own land

partly agree with you on this. the illusion of europe or abroad as per say is so deeply rooted in us, to the point that we hardly appreciate what we have. there are people with relatively good life with high socioeconomic position, leaving all that to hardly having a toilet cleaning job in europe. treated ad the lowest in the social heriachy.. you'll be surprised how nigerian are living abroad
Politics / The Illusion Of Making It Big In Europe by hejda(m): 12:55pm On Apr 22, 2015
Every year thousand of Nigerians leave their villages, city and family in the illusion of abundant wealth and prosperity in Europe. There are many factors why Nigerians choose to leave their home and relatives, being it war and conflict, poverty and unemployment but mainly because of the overall perception of Europe as holding greener pastures.

Europe do however come with a high price. Firstly the cross over is expensive sometimes demanding the whole family or village to sponsor the traveler with their life savings, expecting that once he arrives he will provide for them and make fortunes for himself. Though this may never happen, the dream becomes a nightmare.

Politics / The Kidnapping Of Over 200 Schoolgirls Were An Ingenious PR Grip by hejda(m): 11:21am On Apr 16, 2015
A year ago, few outside Nigeria knew what Boko Haram was. Nowadays, the terror group are well known and feared. The kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls were an ingenious PR grip

Boko Haram did not only won worldwide attention. They also demonstrated how helpless, the Nigerian government was.
Triumphantly Boko Haram showed up girls in a video wearing head scarfs which alleged that they were all converted to Islam. The leader Abubakar Shekau declared that the girls were sold as slaves to the soldiers.

The actions of terror groups are aimed at intimidating the masses and decision makers. They want to leave their mark hoping that terror will give them an influence they can never get through the ballot.
With its atrocities Boko Haram hope that the population should learn to accept their methods and do not dare to resist.

Mars 31 was a true historical turning point in the contemporary life of Nigeria and its people. It was proved that the country, lately being close to founder under the life tearing and threatening acts of Boko Haram, had a will power, commitment and courage sharp enough to start the shattering of its political and violent shackles.

The administration and rhetorical debate during the 2015 elections together with its aftermath shows the crucial spirit of reconciliation, patience and sincere dedication to truly fulfilling political and human democratic rights. This has been enshrined in a four clearly defined parameters.

Politics / Is The Tide Turning Against Boko Haram? by hejda(m): 12:33pm On Mar 22, 2015
The Nigerian president is confident that the Islamist insurgents of Boko Haram are finally about to be decisively defeated.

In an interview with the BBC, President Goodluck Jonathan said Boko Haram will be routed in one month.

His bullish comments follow the news this week that Nigerian troops hadfinally driven Boko Haram militants from Bama in Borno State, north-east Nigeria.

Military spokesman Chris Olukolade said militants fled the city, which they had held since September last year, after days of ground skirmishes and aerial bombardments.
General Olukolade said troops would continue to pursue the militants towards Nigeria’s porous border with Cameroon.

Politics / Secret Nigerian Drinking Dens In Kano by hejda(m): 12:05pm On Mar 22, 2015
http://www.paxnigerian.com/bbc-news-secret-nigerian-drinking-dens-in-kano/

Beer is officially banned in Kano but as the sun sets in the northern Nigerian city, the outside seating at bars quickly begins to fill with drinkers, Christian and Muslims alike.

These establishments selling alcohol are along a road in the Sabon Gari suburb, an area set aside for non-Muslim residents of the bustling commercial centre.

Here Sharia does not apply, so these beer parlours, as they are called, are tolerated by the Hisbah – the city’s Islamic police force.

“Business is booming,” says barman Paul Bini.

“It gets very full – both men and women come and people from outside Sabon Gari.”

He is referring to those from the Hausa community, the Muslims who come to Sabon Gari to secretly enjoy its nightlife.

Sports / How Popular Is Cricket In Nigeria? Read This Article by hejda(m): 11:50am On Mar 22, 2015
Nigeria has produced its fair share of great sportsmen and women – but unlike footballers and polo players, cricketers rarely get the West African nation’s heart beating.

Cricket and Nigeria may seem an incongruous pairing, but in Lagos many a weekend players in their colourful kit take to the crease on a dusty pitch in a fiercely competitive cricket league.

“This league actually boasts about 99% of the Nigerian national team,” says Femi Solebo, who chairs the Club Cricket Committee Lagos and also plays for the Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club.

Watching a game from the welcome shade of the pavilion, he occasionally shouts out instructions to his batsmen taking on Government College Ibadan in a 50-over game.

“Over the last three or four years Nigerian cricket has stepped up quite a lot and has allowed these guys here to show their stuff at an international level,” he says.

“Recently the national team got promoted to division five in the World Cricket League, which is a huge achievement for us – we’ve never been there before in the history of Nigerian cricket.[img][/img]

Business / Nigerian Email Scams Make It Hard For African Nation’s Legitimate Startups by hejda(m): 2:13pm On Mar 21, 2015
http://www.paxnigerian.com/nigerian-email-scams-make-it-hard-for-african-nations-legitimate-startups-to-attract-clients-and-funding-from-abroad/

Blame it on the Nigerian prince of Internet lore. Nigeria’s online sector is booming, as evidenced by the hundreds of entrepreneurs, social media experts and tech industry insiders that have flocked to the city for Social Media Week Lagos 2015. But many of the businesspeople in attendance say the stigma of Nigerian email scams — so ubiquitous that they merit their own entry in the Encyclopedia Britannica — is difficult to shake as they court customers and crucial investors from Europe and the United States.

Just 13.3 percent of respondents to a recent Ernst & Young survey of international investors view Nigeria as an attractive prospect, and only 27.5 percent of people already doing business on the continent say it’s a good bet. And while Kenya, its East African counterpart, saw a 40 percent increase in foreign direct investment last year, Nigeria saw just 19 percent.

Politics / Re: Does President Jonathan Really Deserve Our Votes? by hejda(m): 1:04pm On Mar 21, 2015
staph69:
Immediately after President Goodluck
Jonathan was elected and sworn in on the
29th May, 2011, He promised to
fundamentally change the way things were
done in Aso villa, Abuja, to usher in an era of
unprecedented transparency and fight the War
on Terror without compromising Nigerian
values.
Just as he appreciated the votes of about
58.89% of Nigerians who gave him their
mandates by voting for him as the results of
the 2011 election results were announced.
Today his job approval rating ranges from
25-40% (based on various opinion polls).
This drop in job approval rating might cost
his fellow party members especially those in
Northern Nigeria the likes Mallam Nuhu
Ribadu and Co. in the forth-coming elections.
Many Nigerians home and abroad have rated
this administration below average in different
sectors, some of which includes the
following; security, economy, education e.t.c
These Set of Nigerians might have strong
reasons to rate this administration below
average in terms of performance for many
reasons. In the next few lines I would
summarise some of the promises made by
our dear President during his 2011
inauguration speech so as to ascertain
whether Nigeria has progressed or
retrogressed under President Jonathan’s
administration and does he really deserve our
“Votes”
SECURITY
There had been patches of violent eruptions
here and there before our dear President
Goodluck Jonathan assumed power but the
situation got worse under his watch, with a
confirmation from him recently that he
underestimated Boko Haram. Boko haram
under president Goodluck evolve from a
group of extremist that uses, Dane-guns,
clubs, bows and arrows, to a well-trained
army that had the mercenaries that were able
to attack using tanks, rocket propelled
grenades, general purpose machine guns.
Under president Jonathan 13,000 of our
compatriots were either slaughtered or
bombed, 2 million Nigerians became refugees
in their own country, about 13,000Kmsq of
land was overtaken by the terrorist. Of recent
90 precious lives were lost in Benue with the
president still being quiet as if Benue is not a
state in Nigeria.
POWER
In 2011 The Federal Government through the
then Minister of Power, Professor Bart Nnaji
announced the improvement in the electricity
generation capacity of the Nation to about
4,273MW. But as of January 28, 2015
according to information released by THE
TRANSMISSION COMPANY OF NIGERIA, The
country is currently losing 2,042.2 megawatts
of electricity due to gas supply shortage and
poor water management. The 411 G2 and G4
units of the Shiroro hydro power plant are
currently losing 300MW, while the loss of
1,742.2MW is attributed to gas supply
shortage at various legacy gas-fired power
plants, including the National Integrated
Power Project plants, which leaves our power
generation at a mere over 2,000MW, which
therefore means Nigeria as a nation might
have retrogressed in terms of power
generation under the watchful eyes of
President Goodluck Jonathan.
IMPUNITY
If we were in a country where the rule of Law
is strictly adhered to, our dear President
Goodluck Jonathan would have face
indictment or impeachment due to what
happened in #EKITIGATE, the body language
seems to be like we are friends to criminal
impunity and some group of Nigerians are
clearly above the Law. I have not seen any
sign of regrets and repentance from our Dear
President or his party whom have gotten so
used to being friends of abuse of power by
the nomination of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro
to serve as a minister as this is another
reason why every right thinking Nigerian
would think twice on voting for President
Jonathan again. Impunity was taken to
another level under this very inept
administration; Just months back, the
number four citizen of this great and blessed
country Rt. Honorable Tambuwal was
prevented access to his office by junior police
officers that acted on others from above not
forgetting the new laws of arithmetic by this
administration during the Governors forum
elections where 16 was said to be greater
than 19. President Jonathan rendered
democracy meaningless where it should be
most fervently exemplified.
PROTECTION OF WHISTLE-BLOWERS
In Ekiti, it was all about Capt. Sagir Koli, a
patriotic Army officer who blew the whistle
on the #EKITIGATE While Captain Koli upheld
his oath of office, his boss Brigadier Momoh
who betrayed the country has been allowed
to keep his job and salary while Captain Koli
has to go into hiding to avoid being
assassinated.
Last year it was about a former Governor of
Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi
who is now the Emir of Kano, he now
occupies one of the most revered thrones in
Northern Nigeria.
The man alleged that a sum of 20 billion
Dollars got lost or was misappropriated by
the Jonathan lead administration. The man
was quickly suspended or put on
administrative leave. Compared to his
predecessors, Jonathan has been extremely
aggressive in his persecution of
whistleblowers
There are over a thousand reasons on how
President Jonathan has failed Nigerians but,
there are other sectors of the economy in
which the current administration made some
positive impacts; remodeling of the Airports
(though he can still do better than that), Dr.
Akinwuni Adesina has done far better than
his predecessors in the Agric sector, so also
the president has revamp some of the rail
lines. However, his achievements when
compared to the massive looting, killing of
innocent Nigerians, prolong strikes by labour
unions (JOHESU, ASUU, ASUP…), impunity,
empowering ethnic militias (Niger delta
militants, OPC, MASSOB) devaluation of
naira, high un-employment rate, high poverty
rate… (it’s an endless list) one can conclude
that President Jonathan has failed the over
22 million people that voted for him in 2011
and also the Nation in general, hence
president Jonathan doesn’t really deserve our
Votes this time around.

i read an interesting article at www.paxnigerian.com concerning this topic. the thing is, we are at the rare end, no matter who wins we still gonna be draging bacwards. these two unfortunately has no new ideas to show for. is a matter of pest or cholera.
