Crime / CAC Pastor Arrested For Impregnating 16-Year-Old Girl In Ondo (Photo) by helobabe: 3:13am On Jan 10, 2019
The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Wednesday , said it had arrested a man , identified as Josiah Akinsuyi, for allegedly impregnating a 16 - year - old girl ( name withheld).

According to the command , the suspect claimed to be a pastor of a Christ Apostolic Church in Akure , the state capital .

The state Commandant , NSCDC, Mr Pedro Awili , while parading the suspect at the headquarters of the command in Akure , said the victim’ s father reported the case after the teenager had confessed to him that she was four months pregnant .

According to the NSCDC boss, a test conducted on the victim confirmed that she was indeed pregnant .

The commandant explained that the victim’ s family and the suspect were neighbours at Abusoro in the Ijoka area of Akure , adding that the suspect took over from one Sunday Babatunde , who allegedly had earlier been sleeping with the teenager.

Awili said , “ Our investigation revealed that the pastor had carnal knowledge of the girl three times and we have carried out a test, which proved that the girl was four months pregnant .

“ Investigation also revealed that the elder sister of the girl had something to do with the pastor, because the first time he wanted to have carnal knowledge of the victim, she did not cooperate and she informed her sister about it . The sister allegedly advised her to cooperate with the pastor.

Crime / Police Destroy Hard Drugs Worth Over N400m In Lagos (photos) by helobabe: 3:03am On Jan 10, 2019
The Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday, destroyed psychoactive drugs and other substances valued at over N400m in Igbe, Ikorodu area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said the illicit items were recovered during a raid on criminal hideouts and two other sources based on intelligence gathering.

According to him, drugs and arms promote crime.

He added that it was based on this that the command intensified the fight against hard drug sale and consumption in order to stamp out criminality in the state.

Imohimi explained that since the beginning of the year, the command had been able to seize large quantities of cannabis, cocaine, heroin, Tramadol, codeine and other psychoactive substances.

The CP praised the synergy between the police and other security agencies, noting that the collaboration had paid off in the course of his service in the state.

He also thanked the state government for assisting the police in tackling crime in Lagos.

Due to storage space constraints, the CP added that the police had to apply to the court for permission to publicly destroy the illicit drugs, noting that the stores where they were kept had been overstretched.

Imohimi stated, “Between the first day of January and now, we have been able to recover the following categories of drugs: Indian hemp, cocaine, heroin, Tramadol, codeine and other psychoactive substances, with a street value of well over N400m.

“One good thing I am happy about since I came to Lagos is the assistance I have been receiving from both the state government and other security agencies. I went into early partnerships with the other security agencies, which are well represented here today, and most importantly, with the state government.

“This synergy with them has paid off as we are witnessing the destruction of these psychoactive drugs and other substances.

“Those of us, who are students of police science, will know that there is a very close nexus between drugs and crime. In fact, the two strongest elements for the commission of a crime are the availability of arms and drugs, and that is why I have taken very seriously the fight against drug sales, consumption and proliferation in the city.

“In that wise, since most of our stores and exhibit rooms are filled to capacity, we decided to approach the court for permission to publicly destroy these substances.”

The CP assured Lagosians that the partnership with the other security agencies, the state government as well as community-based groups would be strengthened.

He added that the police would go from community to community and from street to street to rid the state of drugs.

Crime / Bribe-seeking Cop Shoots Two Drivers In Kogi (Photo) by helobabe: 2:43am On Jan 10, 2019
A bribe-seeking police inspector, identified as Mohammed Usman, has been arrested for allegedly shooting and injuring two drivers in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened at the Ibro Motor Park situated opposite the International Market, Lokoja.

The Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers at the park, Ibrahim Yakubu, said trouble began when one of the drivers was stopped by a police team at a checkpoint in the Zango area on the Lokoja-Okene highway and was asked to part with a bribe.

According to the driver, he told the policemen that he had nothing to give them at that point and thus continued his journey towards Lokoja.

Dissatisfied with the driver’s action, the policemen reportedly gave his vehicle a chase down to the Ibro Motor Park area, where he stopped the vehicle and ran into the park for refuge.

Yakubu said, “We were sitting in the park around 11am when we heard gunshots. The next thing we saw was one of our fellow drivers running into the union office; two policemen followed him to the office and our union officials addressed them and they left.

“The driver said he left his vehicle by the roadside and when we went there, we met a police inspector, Mohammed Usman, inside the vehicle.

“We told him that we were taking the vehicle to the park and he followed us in the bus. On getting to the union office, we told him that we had already settled the matter with his colleagues.

“Upon hearing that, he became furious and brought out his gun and first fired a shot into the ground. As he continued shooting, a bullet hit one of our drivers, Mohammed Attah, in the leg, while another driver, Emmanuel, was hit in the stomach.

“Following the incident, the other policemen stationed outside drove into the park with their van and quickly rescued the inspector and drove off.

“We went to the ‘B’ Division Police Station to report the matter and the DPO followed us to take the victims to the Federal Medical Centre and from there, we went to the state Police Command headquarters to report the matter.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the policemen involved be detained until the victims are discharged from the hospital.”

Yakubu urged the Kogi State Police Command to ensure that justice was served in the matter.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Kogi State Police Command, William Aya, confirmed the incident and explained that the policemen, who were on stop and search operation, stopped the driver but he refused and as a result, they pursued him on the suspicion that he might be carrying incriminating items.

Aya said the driver got near the motor park and abandoned his vehicle by the roadside and ran into the park.

He stated that one of the policemen pursued the driver into the park and in the process, there was a misunderstanding between the cop and the transporters, which led to accidental discharges.

Aya said the policemen involved had been detained, while the matter was being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department, adding that appropriate sanctions would be taken against the cops if they were found wanting at the end of the investigation.

Leave money on the table with Buhari in the room, you’ll find it when you return —Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s trustworthiness is what distinguishes him as the candidate to beat in the 2019 presidential elections.

Tinubu argued that the character of the two presidential candidate front runners — President Buhari and ex-VP Atiku Abubakar — could not be more distinct.

“President Buhari is a straight and honest man. Leave a Naira on the table with Buhari in the room. You will find the Naira on the table when you return.

“When Buhari says ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ you know where he stands. He means what he says, no more, no less.

“With Atiku, things are more nuanced. This shows he has no vision for the nation except the naked pursuit of power for the naked use of that power,” Tinubu said.

Speaking in Lagos on Tuesday via a statement by his Media Officer, Mr. Tunde Rahman, the ex-Governor also assured President Muhammadu Buhari that the party’s campaign council has accepted the assignment given to it by the President and would work for the country.

“We accept President Buhari’s Assignment,” Tinubu said in a statement by his Media Officer, Mr. Tunde Rahman, in Lagos, noting that the council would not let President Buhari down.

Tinubu, also the Co-Chair of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, said that letting Buhari down would also let down the nation.

He said he had, therefore, rallied members of the campaign council, with the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, as Director-General for the task ahead.

He noted that the Peoples Democratic Party should not be allowed to return to power and “return to the days where they ruled the nation like overlords.”

“I think I can speak for all members of the campaign council that we accept the assignments given by the President with devotion and a firm commitment to perform to our utmost, individually and collectively, on the tasks given.

Hacker confesses to stealing, leaking private data of Merkel, others
“It is a great honour and responsibility he has given us. We dare not let him down because doing so would also let down the nation.

“This election concerns more than two competing personalities and political parties. It is a contest between two different visions for the country and the futures these visions portend.

“The APC seeks a better Nigeria by reforming our institutions of governance that these institutions may better implement policies engendering dynamic economic development.

“We seek not only growth but also a fair and just allocation to all segments of society of the harvest of our national endeavours.

“Let no Nigerian be forever trapped in poverty and despair. Let all Nigerians be given the genuine opportunity to realise their full potential and contribute to this nation and their own lives as much as their talents and will power permit of them.

“We build a Nigeria where government leads the nation but does not rule over the people,” he said.

Tinubu said that PDP pushed toward a future that took the nation back to the malpractices of the past, blind to the possibilities of a better day and afraid of the equality that true reform would bring

He said that PDP remained vested in the ways of corrupt governance and arrogant disregard for the public.

“For them, the unjust past is not just the object of their dreams; it is their sole destination.

“Thus, this election is about two different visions and two different models of leadership. This election is about substantive issues and about character,” he said.

“We are building needed infrastructure, including electricity and water because we realise a national economy cannot grow beyond the capacity of the infrastructure that serves it.

Meanwhile, the PDP clan wants to return to the days where they rule the nation like overlords. They want to own every industry and control everything that has anything to do with the creation of wealth.

“They seek to reverse the democratic maxim that government is the servant of the people. The PDP wants a situation where those in government are the masters while the people bow their heads to the interests of the mighty and the rich.

“We have seen this before. Those who really care about Nigeria care not to see such malign governance again,” he said.

The APC National Leader said that Atiku had his chance to shine as Vice-President when he controlled the privatisation programme of the Obasanjo government.

According to Tinubu, Atiku abused this assignment and helped squander billions of dollars on power generation that did nothing but extended the nation’s darkness.

“We should not reward him by giving him another eight years

“As the PDP candidate, he is now the leader of an avaricious horde that seeks to reattach its mandible once again to the public wealth and forever lay siege to our nation’s future.

“Nigerians will do well not to pay them any attention,” he said.

Tinubu promised that members of the APC presidential campaign council would work diligently to re-elect President Buhari.

“We do this, not for personal accolades. We do this, not merely to re-elect a party member. We do this because it is the best thing for Nigeria.

“The campaign has begun!” Tinubu noted.
