Uyi Iredia: Correction: It was a vision not a trance. It was in the middle of a math lesson at home. My tutor had gone to pick a call and after a while I started seeing images on a chair in a manner similar to how projected images are seen. Since I knew about apparitions I looked away, and back at where the images where and they were still there. I don't know what induced it, but i have not had a reoccurence since then.can you recall exactly what you saw? |
Isn't it time yet to open "prospective batch A" and take all these OAU and EKSU students there? Make una no shout on top my head o... Just kidding. God go help una |
@ayomivic, I was about probing you, but I decided against it based on your opening statement. You said I might not agree it's a miracle. And I guess that's simply because you feel it could have happened in other ways not "supernatural" but since you can't explain it, you have given it the "miracle" tag and we should all accept it with you. No further probes |
Beretta92: This was the major thing that set me on the path to agnosticism.I always heard about miracles but never saw any wrought in my life or in the lives of people i know/knew.I was a deeper life member and in deeper life most members believe miracles happen when Pastor Kumuyi prays. There was a time he had a crusade in port-harcourt and we in lagos watched via satellite. We had our own sick people and others in need of a miracle, but miracles only seemed to happen in port-harcourt cos nobody ever got healed in our location.Infact, one of our attendees who had stroke died shortly after the crusade, and i remember how sad i felt cos we all thought he was gonna get healed considering the amount of fantastic miracles that happened in port-harcourt.This really got me thinking.Later when pastor kumuyi did some crusade elsewhere and we watched the miracles on screen,i couldn't help feeling that the whole thing was absurd and ridiculous-i mean the fact that miracles would never happen in our location, and our unwell attendees often got worse and some more even died. This later made me boycott such crusades to my mum's dismay and thus began my long odessey to unbelief.I understand how you feel sir. That was why I put this topic up to help those who have lost complete faith in the whole thing and maybe set them on a new path of restoration. But so far, I've not been impressed. Let's still keep our fingers crossed and hope someone will be honest enough. |
Joagbaje: Miracles have been wrought through me apart from the ones I witness through other ministers live and on tv. If you watch loveworld and Emmanuel tv ,you will see live miracles.if you read my post, you'll see how careful I was of things that can't be confirmed. For the sake of clarity please remove HIV and barrenness. About the leg ulcer issue, you are certain it cleared off the very instant you laid your hand on the person or prayed for the person? |
Tolexander: I've once witnessed one before.lool. Funny one. |
amara.lizzy%40y:you still didn't answer if it was a testimony (what someone said) or what you actually know (knowing the person was blind and actually got healed solely as a result of the prayer or healing session). |
Joagbaje: I see miracles wrought almost daily from cancer to HIV healing. Miracles are realI am not saying you don't sir. Can you confirm one particular instance you've seen? |
amara.lizzy%40y:was it a testimony that the boy was born blind or you've known the boy yourself for the 18 years. |
Uyi Iredia: Of course, we are incapable of finding answers to God's designer since by definition God is self-existent. I don't think the question of the Designer's designer is posed for an answer, it is used to counter the notion of God as the designer. I wonder whether you know well enough to say there should be life outside earth. I disagree most importantly because I deign to, of course if an advanced alien civilization is out there we should have seen it. Or to press the point home further, I disagree for the same reasons atheists disbelieve in God, the first being lack of evidence for aliens, sure God could have made aliens or ET life but nobe so far.you made it sound like it's just something used to counter and oh! throw it out of the window. Tell me it isn't logical to ask. And then, I'm not surprised you made use of "incapable". And well, I am usually careful of assertions. I never said "should".. It's all a probability. "May" is what I most definitely use. And seriously? "we should have seen it?"... You really think of space as your bedroom. I'll like you to define "we" first as I laugh away in mesmerization |
amara.lizzy%40y:I am not denying that you've seen but for the "confirming" part. How can you confirm? |
Uyi, your point reminds me of dawkins' God's irreducible complex immunity. If they need a cause outside of themselves, what caused that first cause? First cause regression argument has been there for ages and I think the beauty of science is the fact that you can disagree with anything and come up with better theories which is what you are doing with David Christian and all you have to do is go out and look for other people who have views that may appeal to you. Science evolves based on technological advances and every theory is always a ground for improvision. IDs fail to tell us what caused the designer. Or are we incapable of finding answers to that? On the issue of aliens, even with an intelligent designer, do you think Earth is the only place he could come up with to place "living" things? Looks like you know him well enough to think he can't make other "living" things and place them any other place outside earth. P.S: I'm not supporting any sighting or conspiracy. But come to think of it, why should you think earth is the only place where "living" things can be? |
Bolaino, I don't think there's anything you can bring forward that hasn't been seen on a magic set with full explanation. It always appears supernatural to the "uninitiated".. Like Houdini once greatly remarked, "things that stun most people don't stun me probably because of the nature of my job". I have heard people say, if there is a fake or a fake attempt (at miracles or supernatural in general), then there has to be an original. I didn't have to go into any fallacious theories to shake my head at the sheer ignorance of the proponent. Another stood out quite evidently. His argument was "if people talk about it, then it exists".. Another flawed argument. I was stunned, I had to use ad hominem. Some people never went through a day of logic class or never came across any form of philosophy. Some even go on to say "how did uneducated people effectively make use of "advanced" science in the dark ages?" Well, we always forget how much time they had to "observe". Some even think only the educated is capable of reasoning and observation. If you think you've seen anything supernatural before (because most people here actually can't do any themselves, try to see if it can be done in any other way). If you can't think of any other way, reason with someone else. Most things aren't as mysterious as you think they are. |
I once wrote an article that I was to post on RDFRS on why an african will most likely not be an atheist and my phone went off just as I finished typing but before I could click the "send" key. I didn't bother re-writing. I have followed this thread and well, I've had fun so far. I still have a Lawrence Krauss to decipher (understanding why there is something rather than nothing) and understand and I'm still trying to convince myself of the anthropic principle....anyway, uyi said he doesn't believe in aliens.. I'll like to spice your thoughts. Earth supports life because it's in a goldilock zone. There's a possibility there's somewhere in the universe that supports life too and hence, aliens (the universe is big and still expanding). The closest we know is the Zeta reculi and most UFO enthusiasts follow a common trend in ascribing alien origin to zeta reticuli.. It's a plausible stance and given the fact that it's scientifically possible, I won't write the possibility off. I'm just surprised when some people believe their senses can't be tricked. Subject everything to reason. I have once been lectured on the supernatural. Someone close to me gave experiences. Someone even said he made some incantations and money came into his room mysteriously. Well, I didn't tell him outrightly he's a liar and I didn't throw his argument out of the window though I'm hoping he'll tell me how to do it. Anyway like Thomas Jefferson advised, "question their pretenses if it's against the natural course of the laws of nature"... Do not be lazy to question things and hurriedly subject it to "faith" or "supernnatural".. Our common ridicule is always "show me an amputee who got his arm back" or "someone who had a 3rd degree burn and it cleared after a miracle session". We are most likely never going to see. I don't understand why someone will believe someone got a new womb when he can't get a new hand. It looks like people see internals as separate to externals..whatever the logic, people never fail to amuse me. Like a friend of mine will jokingly say "maybe there is a secret that the ancient found that has been passed from generation to generation that science hasn't gotten hold of..., but definitely, it's a matter of time" |
There was a time miracle sessions were on our TVs and I used to wonder how true these miracles are. In my own little way, I have tried asking people if they've truly received any miracle before and to my surprise, I haven't found anyone who has. I felt I should throw this to nairalanders maybe someone out there has witnessed or received any before. Has anyone close to you who you know very well that is blind received his sight after a miracle session before? Have you also seen someone who you know very well that is crippled walk again? It seems those who receive miracles are random people we don't know and who have no families. For the sake of clarity, I won't want you to add "headache", "barrenness", "womb transplant", or other things that could be subject to medical error to be included. Let's face the things we can all see and confirm first. I need to know if you yourself, a family member or friend or someone you've known for a long time to be blind or crippled or deaf or dumb or mad has received a miracle after being prayed for by a man of God. It seems we just hear stories or the ones we even see in church or TV have no "confirmable" background. |
I |
So, the other day I was in this church and there was this man dancing and graciously giving his offering. The pastor even prayed that his business continues to flourish. He made a large donation for the church's new expansion project. I knew I had seen the man somewhere. I tried to recollect. It didn't come early enough but then, it struck me. He was one of the robbers who came to rob our house the other night. He's even being prayed for to have a flourishing business. They killed our gateman that night. The gateman's wife was pregnant. I went to make inquiries after service, everyone said the man is a business-man but they don't know his kind of business. It's no one's fault though. Just wish they knew more about him. There are thieves everywhere. Just wish people will ask more questions. Maybe our gateman will still be alive and his baby will still have a father. I called the police. They arrested him the next sunday, he confessed to the crime. |
