Facebook user who goes by the name Chinaza Shedra-kris has blasted the popular reality show, Big Brother Naija, A.K.A BBN. He accused the contestants of engaging in immoral acts and he also accused Nigeria of encouraging meaningless programmes more than educational events. Here's what he had to say There's a notorious programme currently going on called THE BIG BROTHER NAIJA. The winner of this notorious show is expected to walk away with a whopping N45 million and a breathtaking car. All that is required to win this show is to be Live with a bunch of fellow crazy, irresponsible people, do all sorts of immoral things, and, viola, you're the winner. Next thing, you're called a celebrity, winning big advertisement contracts and becoming the face of multinational companies. If only there could be an educating version of this programme. If only they could house some intelligent people in like manner and make them compete for similar prizes. But, no! Our people do not encourage sanity. Our society promotes evil over good, indecency over decency, immorality over morality, and ungodliness over godliness. The best in Mathematics competitions will go home with either a carton of cowbell milk or Indomie noodles, ridiculous stipends and laughable prizes. Yet these morons in BBN will earn millions for coming to suck breasts, speak thrash, display nudity, and get under the sheets on International TVs. Our rich individuals, companies and corporate organisations will spend huge sums of money sponsoring dirty shows like BBN and Beauty Pageants where they will enthrone satanic activities, display nudity, molest our under aged girls, and make them win on bottom power rather than on real beauty and brains. A former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, on Friday expressed fears that the 2019 elections may be stalled unless the federal government quickly finds an enduring solution to the persistent killings in Benue State. The ex-governor stated this during a condolence visit to Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, on the recent mayhem in the state. He said there can be no election in a state of uncertainty and unrest. He said: ”Why would there be elections in 2019 where there is no peace?" “The most important thing you can bring to society is peace. The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has told the Senate that suspending the anti-open grazing laws passed by some states is one way to end deadly clashes between herders and farmers. Mr. Idris appeared before the Senate Committee of Police in response to the Senate’s summon on Tuesday. The Senate had given the police boss a 14-day ultimatum to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the killing of 73 residents in Benue State. Following his inability to make the arrests as well as give updates on the issue, the Senate on Wednesday resolved to summon Mr. Idris, to give explanations as it vowed not to overlook the matter. At the beginning of the meeting, the IGP tried to give brief details of the local governments visited in the state and journalists were then excused from the room as the meeting held behind closed doors. After the closed-door sessions, however, a source told PREMIUM TIMES that the IG had complained about the presence of small armed militia groups which is making it difficult for the police to restore peace to the state. “He said that about 140 people have been arrested so far, and most of them have been charged to court for prosecution. Investigations are still ongoing for those who are yet to be charged to court,” he said. I am dishing out the trick I used in getting an A in my English WAEC. There are usually five sections to complete: Essay Comprehension Summary Oral English General english Essay: Students are usually given five different kinds of essays to choose one from: Formal letter, informal letter, Story, article or Argumentative essay. The secret to passing this aspect excellently is to write the best option. I usually advice students to go for informal letter because it is the easiest. Try all your possible best to avoid grammatical errors and proofread your essay once you are done. Informal letter is a type of letter you write to a close relation or friend. This should be the first choice on every student's mind because it is easy to write since you are very familiar with the person you are writing to. In informal letter, you can add humor provided it is inserted well and the examiner understands. When I wrote my informal letter for WAEC , I added pidgin english, humors and many other words we use in our daily conversation. Internet fraud has become very rampant nowadays because of individual's quest to make fast money. I have been contacted a couple of times but I have never fallen victim...not for once. You know the kind of society we live in, one has to be very careful. They always derive new means to trick their victims. Based on my experiences, here are some things I uncovered: 1. Mistakes: The first time I encountered an internet fraudster (yahoo boy) was on facebook. I received a friend request from a guy posing to be a popular actor: Jim Iyke. The mistake the guy made was that he misspelled the name and used Jim Ike instead. At first, I was curious at to why Jim Iyke would send me a friend request on Facebook so I decided to chat him up. He didn't even reply to my chat; instead, he sent me a message asking me to mention some of his movies which I have watched and I will receive a prize. I mentioned them not knowing he was a fraudster. After a while, he asked me to send some cash for shipping of my check. I started reasoning from the beginning. Why did he send a request? Jim Ike? Shipping of check in Nigeria? These were the questions I asked myself. I came into conclusion that he was a scammer and I started throwing all sorts of insults at him. He couldn't even reply. Instead, he blocked me. Clearly he is not a smart scammer. 2. Gmail: My second encounter was on my gmail account I now had some knowledge on internet fraud and I was ready to punch any fraudster in the face. This fraudster used a German name this time but i am very sure he doesn't even know the origin of his name. I received an email where she/he told me her life story and how she wanted to transfer $1,000,000 to my bank account. I was happy but I decided not to get my hopes up. I copied part of the email she sent and pasted it on my browser to search for it on google. Lo and behold, I saw it on google. As you can see, 80% of the result were having "scam" in their posts and the other two were related to scam. This time, I only ignored the messages she sent to me. 3. Spam emails: You know all this spam emails you receive? Internet fraudsters send spam also without knowing it. The reason why it goes directly into your spam folder is because it was copy and paste. Most copy and paste emails go into the spam folder. 4. Certificates: Yes! Fraudsters sometimes forge fake certificates to show proof to the victim that they won whatever they insist they won. I saw this happening right in my presence when I branched to a cafe (I can't remember where it is located) to edit my blog and create and do some graphic design work for someone. One guy came up to me and asked that I help him forge a certificate by removing an already existing victim's name and inserting a new victim's name. So next time you see Facebook certificates asking you to claim your prize by sending a certain amount, make sure to confirm first. I can't really post images now.
