G-5 Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have arrived Ibadan, Oyo state capital, for the flag off of the re-election rally of Seyi Makinde, the state governor.

Makinde is a member of the G-5 Governors who have vowed not to campaign for the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar until the National Chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu vacates his seat.
Other members of the group includes the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).

The governors arrived at the venue of the campaign flag-off at exactly 1 pm.

Speaking at the rally, Ikpeazu called on residents of the state to vote for Makinde, adding that what he would do in the next four years if elected will be more than what he has done before.

Many people down south don't know the history of Almajirci and how it came to be, how it was abused and what led to those abuses, Gej probably made the same mistake - in a typical Southerner's mind, it's shouldn't be there in first place.

To a northerner, its a system that worked well before certain factors led to its abuse -mostly economic and to some extent cultural, address those factors (esp economic), the people keep getting enlightened and the system would be transformed.

Right now, the Almajirci system is a insult on the north, right management of it would turn it to a spectacular system where people are made.

So, major thing, economic empowerment of the region, education should also be improved (Western and Islamic) over a long time and converting those almajiri schools into boarding schools like incorporating both Western and Islamic education. (Long term).

Immediate measure: clusters of these schools, taking off the kids off the streets and providing them with education, plus economic empowerment of the region and engaging stakeholders (scholars) to enlighten and disseminate information.

Without economic empowerment, most of these things will always come to naught.

Gej's so called remodelled almajiri schools were just a waste, he got people like Bala Muhammad to tell him what they want not what was on ground, it was never going to work.

In the whole of NE, there are not more than 5 almajiri schools, plus he overlooked insecurity and economy to pay lip service to almajiri schools, it was headed for the rocks before it even took off.

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu has vowed to tackle the menace of Almajiri problem ravaging the North if elected to power.

The candidate gave the assurance, Tuesday, at a townhall meeting with Muslim leaders from the North-west region.

” If I become the President, I will work with you to establish a Commission to find a lasting solution to the Almajiri problem” he stated adding that he would transform the enormous potentials of the Nigeria youth to something productive.

He maintained that he cannot afford to neglect children because they are creations of Allah and Allah had instructed parents to care of them from childhood to adulthood.
Tinubu also pledged to tackle the present insecurity bedevilling the country adding that, “We would not tolerate gangsters on our roads and highways. The sanctify of lives must be protected.”

To achieve this, he declared that he would increase the number of security personnel across Nigeria and provide them with better equipment to discharge their responsibilities.

He also pledged to be just and fair to all Nigerians while appealing to Muslim clerics to impress it on their followers to vote him on election day.

In his remarks at the occasion. the governor of Jigawa State, Abubakar Badaru said that contrary to the speculations of their detractors, Tinubu is healthy. strong, mentally alert competent and capable to discharge the responsibilities of the president of Nigeria.

He also said that there is no way the interest of the North would be under – representated by the Tinubu administration pointing out himself and Nuhu Ribadu are part and parcel of the Tinubu family and would not be part of any arrangements that would short-change the North.
