ATTENTION!!! Can I get every Nigerian to weigh in on something important? For the sake of our generations and generations to come? Whether you are a student or not. Let us assist and be 'our brother's keepers'. But this is especially important for Nigerian students. This is a long shot and I know how hard it is to get Nigerians to do important things but WTH! Will still give it a try. #10years Challenge has died down(thank God) and in real sense, it was not a social movement aimed at achieving anything...it was rather a fun escapade for people to laugh at how ugly they were; before and after. Now we have more serious and pressing issues... Can we join in? Let us get this trending: #DecayinNigerian EducationSystem And #SaveTheFuture. after the ashtag, talk about your terrible experience with the system, either it be strike, bad infrastructure or other things and also mention the school. You do not need to be a student to do this. Since our government and other stakeholders like ASUU and ASUP have decided that the future of the Nigerian student is no longer of interest to them. Let us drag our case global. After all, due to hypocrisy, Nigerian leaders and many stakeholders mostly do the needful when it goes global. Get this trending and I will try my best to get one or more international media to discuss it in one of their news segments. But most importantly, let us via this means, show our anger and frustrations for our sake and sake of fellow Nigerians. If so many years later, our education system is still under the drain...I wonder! Sudan, Benin Republic, Ghana and many other African countries has better system than us- the so called giant of Africa. We need to begin to force change in our country if those charged with it are too dull , corrupt or uninterested in enacting real reforms. When you use the ashtag, if on Twitter or Instagram, kindly tag Nigerian President, ministry of education, the minister of education, ASUP and ASUU, 1 international media. So can we get it trending? I know important things are hard to trend in Nigeria. Even those things that affect our future, the future of our children or generations unborn but let show that we are more as a generations than just laughing at our leaders bad English or turning serious things to joke. Let me start: #DecayinNigerianEducationSystem #SaveTheFuture My story: 'I wrote Jamb 3 times trying to get admission into a university in Nigeria and for those 3 times I was denied admission; not because I did not meet up the cut off Mark but because the system is rigged against the student. I applied for a diploma program into ABU university and subsequently applied to Kadpoly. I spent 7 years running a combined program which is expected to be less than 4 years. Which means additional 3years + . This was not because of carry overs or poor grade but because of continuous strike. And to make matters worse, our school infrastructure was nothing to 'write home about' and as a student studying chemical engineering; we mostly did theoretical aspect of the study than practical. And you wonder why our science industry is under the drain? Our hospitals? Et al. Even with this struggle during my academics, I still see myself as the lucky few because many spent over 8years seeking admission and spent longer trying to graduate. This is the sad reality of the Nigerian educational system which is expected to be one of the strongest institution in any nation...And you wonder why crime is high? And so is scam And lack of innovation? That is why we end up having more people wanting to be musicians, actors, or comedians than scientist, innovators etc. By Idris Muhammad Ngene (Eedris Ngene).
