• First Things First We are an IT firm based in Lagos, and we are seeking for a Loan to launch our new products. Why ask for funds? We have been using our saving to develop the product and need to take it to the next level. The funds will be used for Marketing, Implementation and operating expenses. • How Much Money Do You Need? N2m to payback N3m in 1yrs (payments will be made every 3months) • What do you need it for? N1m will be used to purchase Assets, which we are expecting to generate N2m within that year N500k is for Services and running cost (Paying freelance programmers, Domain, Hosting etc) N500k is backup in case anything unexpected comes up • Collateral The reason why we are willing to pay N1m interest is because our collateral is not up to the amount we are seeking. We currently have a plot of land in Ikorodu (valued at N1m. Its value by the next year should be about N1.3 – N1.5 or more) • Loans vs. Investment Why are we seeking for loan and not an Investment? We believe that if we are able to payback our loan (in time) and build a good financial statement over the one or two years period, then we can have a document / detailed business plan stating what we have done and what we intend to do (a forecast) based on our previous year(s). OTHERS In addition to the above we also currently have Accounts receivables (Approved proposals, Customer Invoices, Debts etc) worth N4.5m (documents available). TARGETS As stated in my earlier thread, this is not for everybody. We are politely asking - - those that have N2M or more sitting somewhere and are willing to put it into something that will yield a positive return (N1M) within 1year. - those that are willing to review our documentation ON HOW WE INTEND TO PAY BACK - those that are willing not just to provide the funds but support, advise and any other form of assistance |
The reason I posted the above topic is because our company (an IT Firm based in Lagos, Nigeria) needs a Loan of N2m. We are willing to pay an interest of N1m (interest and principal will be paid back quarterly over a one year period). We had earlier posted a thread on Nairaland and the feedback was “go to the bank”. The above post just proofs that Nigeria banks are not really interested in given out loans to SMEs. Further details above the Loan are below. |
Small Business Loans Nigeria - How Do You Get A Business Loan? Obtaining small business loans is a challenge in Nigeria. Many individuals who have business ideas are limited because of lack of funding. There's hardly any business you want to start that you don't need capital. Where will that capital come from? Well, there are several options. • You could raise your business capital from your savings • You can borrow it from a friend or • Borrow it from a bank The income level of most Nigerians is very low. Hence, it is difficult to save enough to invest in a business especially if you are a low income earner. Borrowing from a friend may not be a viable option because if you're poor, it's also likely that you have a circle of friends that are also poor. That leaves the option of borrowing from a commercial bank. The commercial banks make great boast about their commitment to helping SMEs. But how easily can one get small business loans from a commercial bank? Let's take the case of Zenith bank, one of the biggest banks in Nigeria. The bank has reserved over 3.7 billion Naira for investment in SMEs. That is a huge amount . . . something that can substantially grow a good number of SMEs. Wait. What is the criteria for accessing this fund? The first is that the company must be a limited liability company. Most small business people are one man businesses or sole proprietors. This criteria disqualifies them. A second criteria is that the bank's equity funding shall be a minimum of 20 million Naira and a maximum of 500 million Naira. Most small business people are looking for just =N=500,000 to 3 million Naira to start their business. Giving them =N=20 million will confuse most of them. They really don't need it for the kind of business they want to run. See full details about Zenith bank's SME scheme at . . . http://www.zenithbank.com/smallbus.cfm It is clear that Zenith bank and most other banks are not targeting the small business people that form the larger share of the SME market. I call this group the small small business people. The small small business enterprises usually have between 1 - 10 employees. And they are mostly sole proprietorships. The business starts with a man with an idea. He seeks for funds to pursue that idea and grow it into a business. He then employs 1 - 5 people to join him in running the business. The commercial banks can't help them unless they have grown to a point where they have more structure, the capacity to manage 20 million Naira or more, and an established market share. Those conditions are tough for a one-man business with two employees and struggling to create a brand. So, what other option for obtaining small business loans can you explore? There is the option of using the services of a microfinance bank. Microfinance banks take more risks and offer small business loan as low as 20,000 Naira. However, they charge a higher interest rate . . . interest rate as high as 6% per month. So, if you intend to use the services of a microfinance bank, be sure of your numbers. Otherwise, you will run into trouble with the bank. http://www.home-based-business-for-small-business.com/small-business-loans.html |

Even before logging out i found this on Nairaland. Now this is an example of what i was talking about. https://www.nairaland.com/676267/five-million-invest |
@MrKels and others Have you dealt with a Nigerian bank before? Am not sure. I understand this is Nigeria and the first thing 'MOST' people think of is scam. I also know that the economic situation is not as situable as it used to be. BUT the request is NOT for everyone. We are politely asking - - those that have N2M or more sitting somewhere and are willing to put it into something that will yeild a postive return (N1M) within 1year. - those that are willing to review our documentation ON HOW WE INTEND TO PAY BACK - those that will consider our collateral, which is currently not worth N2M Finally, I will also like to ask a question. If you needed N2M to make over N4M, would you not prefer to make N1m profit that too lose it all? |
