Politics › APC Releases Supposed Consolation Speech By Kwankwaso by hinwazaka(op): 9:30pm On Feb 26, 2019 |
Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso has asked the people of Kano State to accept the results of the presidential and national assembly elections in good faith.
This was made known on Tuesday in an audio tweet of Kwankwaso’s speech to Kano electorates by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Bashir Ahmad.
In the audio, the bigwig of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spoke in Hausa to placate the people over the loss.
He said: “We, in the PDP, witnessed all that happened during the presidential and National Assembled elections.
“But, we are appealing to our supporters to be calm as we seek to reclaim our mandate though the process of law.
“Let no one take the laws into his hands. We urge our people to brace up for the coming governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
“As for the Presidential election results, the APC won some states and the PDP also won some states. Only God knows what will happen in the near future but we should remember that no matter the final outcome, God is in charge.
“Let’s avoid a repeat of the 2011 post election violence that saw the loss of hundreds of lives and properties.” www.dailypost.ng/2019/02/26/buhari-vs-atiku-kwankwaso-reacts-election-results-tells-pdp-supporters-audio/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday met behind closed doors with Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reliably gathered that the governor may have used the opportunity of the meeting to brief the president on the fresh violent attacks in some communities in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas of the state.
Mr El-Rufai had earlier via a statement issued by his spokesperson, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed fresh attacks on some communities in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas of the state.
The statement read: “The Kaduna State Government has today (Tuesday) received the sad news of renewed attacks in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas.
“The government condemns this recourse to violence and calls on all communities to support the efforts to restore calm in the area.’’
NAN reports that the outcome of the meeting between the president and El-Rufai, which lasted for less than an hour, was still being awaited as at the time of filing this report. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/316447-kajuru-killings-el-rufai-visits-aso-rock-briefs-buhari.html |

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he will wait for the formal results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission on the outcome of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly polls, instead of relying on rumours.
Buhari spoke shortly on arrival in Abuja from Katsina, his home state, where he spent the weekend to participate in the election.
“I don’t want to depend on rumours, but we will rather wait for INEC to announce the results”, he told the Nigerian Television Authority in Abuja.
Speaking further, he said, “Well, l hope that Nigerians will appreciate that it was this government which made sure that they were allowed in security and peace to cast their votes for whichever party and candidates they wanted.”
The results rolling in from the 36 states show a tight race between the President and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar. https://punchng.com/election-results-ill-wait-for-inec-not-depend-on-rumours-buhari/ |

An All Progressives Congress supporter on Twitter, Kayode Ogundamisi, disagreed with Special Adviser on Media to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State, Salihu Yakasai on Monday, over claims by Gadnuje’s aide that the South-West had failed to “perform.”
Yakasai lamented the “lower-than-expected” votes President Muhammadu Buhari had gathered so far in the South-West.
The South-West, which has the second highest number of voters and has six All Progressives Congress governors in all its six states, was expected to give bloc votes to Buhari.
However , figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission show otherwise.
Tweeting through his handle @dawisu, he wrote, “I am terribly disappointed and saddened by the South-West results for the APC despite being biggest beneficiary of this government both in terms of juicy appointments and projects (they even got a whole new rail line from Lagos to Ibadan) yet APC narrowly won, shame.”
Ganduje’s aide warned the South-West that the North may not give bloc votes in 2023 due to this development.
Reacting to the defeat of Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, who failed to win the Oyo-South senatorial election, Yakasai urged the Yoruba to stop overreacting over his post and admit the truth.
Yakasai added, “Instead of insulting me up and down, the South-West APC needs to do some soul searching inwards ahead of 2023. There will be no bloc vote from the North for any party because Buhari will not be on the ballot paper. The earlier this conversation starts, the better for us all. #Peace. https://punchng.com/election-results-ogundamisi-kicks-as-gandujes-aide-says-swest-has-disappointed-buhari/ |

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo, has decried attempts by some influential individuals in states in the South East to mutilate and change results of the Presidential election held in the area last Saturday to the advantage of one of the presidential candidates. In a release, Chief Nwodo alleged that some local government and INEC officials were being coerced and enticed to change the collated figures of the election to enable the presidential candidate to score up to the mandatory twenty-five percent in the States.
The President General said that the results of the elections in the states in the geopolitical zone are already in the public domain, and that any attempt to falsify them would be vehemently resisted by the people. He called on the international and local observers to take note and warned the intending perpetrators to desist from this perfidious act capable of inciting violence in an otherwise peaceful exercise in the zone. www.thenationonlineng.net/ohanaeze-warns-against-manipulated-results-in-south-east/ |

The Independent National Electoral Commission has removed Prof. Musa Izam, the Collation Officer it assigned to Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, the News Agency of Nigeria reports
Izam, a physics lecturer at the University of Jos, had earlier attempted to abscond without declaring the results of Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections, but was apprehended by youths in the area, who forced him back to the collation centre.
“We had to remove him because he was drunk and could not perform the assignment,” Mr Osaretin Imahiyereobo, Head, Voter Education, of INEC in Plateau, told NAN in a telephone interview on Sunday in Jos.
He said that INEC had to act fast to avoid delay in the collation exercise.
“We are waiting for him to come to Jos and explain why he behaved the way he did,” the INEC official told NAN.
NAN reports that Izam, who started the collation of the results brought from the local government’s Wards on Sunday, told party agents, INEC officials and observers that he needed a little time to ease himself.
The official, however , disappeared from the centre, and took off to Jos. PDP response According to Mr Michael Abi, PDP chairman in Bokkos Local Government, some youths, who saw Izam leaving the centre, quickly mobilised themselves and chase him
“The youths chased him and caught up with him at Maikatako near Kuba, about 40 kilometres away from Bokkos.
“When he was brought back to the collation centre, he quickly apologised and promised to continue with his work.
“His attitude is shocking, considering the crucial nature of this assignment. He has refused to work and this has delayed the collation and declaration of the outcome of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the local government, ’’ he said. APC response Mawuyau , an APC stalwart, who agreed that the Professor’s attitude was “shocking and uncalled for’’, urged the anxious election officials to forgive Izam. Rec's response “I only went to visit a friend in town but the people misconstrued the whole thing
“I only stepped out to go and see a friend along with the Special Adviser to Governor Simon Lalong on Security matters, but the people thought I had left my duty post, which is not true.
“I did apologise to them since they were not happy with the action I took, but INEC felt otherwise,” Izam stated. https://punchng.com/2019-election-inec-removes-plateau-returning-officer-over-dereliction-of-duty/ |

Suspected ballot thieves snatched a ballot box from a polling unit at Ute-Okpu community in Ika North East Local Government, Delta State, Saturday morning, and took it to unknown hideout, despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s warning that such persons stand the risk of losing their lives.
Vanguard learned that the ballot snatchers caught security agents, including soldiers deployed to the area unawares.
However, soldiers cordoned off the area soon after the incident, searching voters and demanding that every person within the surroundings of the polling unit show his or her Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, or be taken as a ballot thief.
A voter, who spoke to our reporter on the incident, said, “There is tension at Ute-Okpu over the incident, the boys of a well-known politician stormed the polling unit, snatched the ballot box and ran away with it in their vehicle. There was nothing the voters could do.”
Reports from several parts of the state indicate that there was slow reading of card readers at most of the filling stations, but at parts of Agbor, people voted as early as 9.00 am after accreditation. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/02/breaking-ballot-thieves-snatch-ballot-box-in-delta/ |
