chapter 32
[Don't leave]

“Do you have to go?" I begged Jane the next morning.

“Yes I already told you. My mom wants to 'get to know her daughter better' since she's been slacking as a mother recently. We're just going out for breakfast and she's taking me to the Mall. I'll be back soonish." She told me again as Maggie tried to eat her shoes again.

“See? Maggie doesn't want you to leave either." I tried persuading her again.

“Shedrack. I. Will. Be. Back. Soon. Calm. Yourself. You. Will. Survive. And you too little Maggie. I'm surprised your Dad was cool with getting a dog."

“Me too. I think she always wanted to be the 'cool mom' because her mom wasn't."

“I'm hungry." Jane said changing the subject as she opened the door.

“Jane, you're literally going out to eat."

My mom and I were playing card games since we were bored and had the news in the background. Maggie was laying on my lap.

"One 8." She said as she laid down a card face down.

“BS I HAVE ALL THE 8'S!"

“Okay BS is an awful game to play with two people, I give up."

“Yep it would be more fun with Ja-"

“Shedrack, if you bring up Jane one more time I'm going to my room and staying there for the rest of the day."

“I'm sorry! I love you mom." I smiled.

“Mhmmm." My attention broke from my mom when I heard something bad come on the news.

“There have been reports of multiple gun shots fired at the Mall. The mall has gone into lockdown and the police have arrived on screen. When more information is present we will let you know immediately."

Jane told me she was going to the Mall.

chapter 31
[Leaving]

“Mom?" Jane's questioned as she answered the phone. She put it on speaker phone so I could hear too.

“I'm sorry I acted that way. I support you." Were the words that came from the phone.

“Thanks mom." Jane said as she smiled.

“And there's something I have to tell you."

“Okay ?" Jane looked nervously at me.

“As you know, your dad and I fight a lot. I told him that you're in love with a shedrack." Her mom said the last sentence a bit slower.

“Okay..."

“He said it was the last straw."

“Of what?"

“Your dad is leaving." There was a long silence following the shock.

“Because I'm in love with shedrack?" Jane asked quietly.

“No! It's not that." Her mom took a moment to think. “He just, I don't know. We don't love each other anymore."

“And now he doesn't have a reason to stay, because he doesn't love me anymore."

"I'm sorry." Her mom tried to squeeze in before Jane ended the call. At least her mom seemed genuinely sad. There was a mixture of confusion and disappointment on Jane's face.
Her mom had texted her a moment later saying she loved her.She stared at me with an unsure smile.

“Are you okay?" I asked her concerned.

“Yes. It's better some homophobic guy who constantly yells at my mom and I leaves, than having him in my house." She looked reassured by her own words.

“Even if that homophobic yelling guy is your dad?" I asked.

“I wouldn't consider him a dad. At least not mine."

“I love you. And your optimism, but that's just another plus."

“Would you love me even if I was a pessimist?" She smirked at me.

“Hmm... I'll have to think about that." I smiled sarcastically.

“Hey!" She laughed and pulled me into a soft warm hug. "Do you know what we should do?" She said in my ear.

“What?" I broke away from the hug.

“Go to the tree house." She smirked.

“IT'S ALMOST DARK."

“AnD?"

“WE WILL BE MURDERED."

“If we can be there in the middle of the night and not get murdered I'm sure we'll be fine at 6:45pm."

“Fine. But you better hold my hand the whole way. And be in front AND behind me at the same time somehow. Because I'm not going first or last."

“There is only one of me."

“Unfortunately."

“Are you saying if I had a twin you would date her too?"

“Maybe. NO JUST KIDDING I LOVE YOU. But still you better not get me killed by going in that forest again. No matter how many times we've been there and seen no serial killers..."

“Do you want me to invite Goodness so there'll be someone behind you too?"

“BUT WHAT IF SHE'S THE SERIAL KILLER?"

“shedrack You need to stop watching horror movies ."

“Never."

Chapter 30
[Interrupted]

“I need a cute couple nickname for you." Jane told me in the morning.

“NO."

“What about honey muffin?"

“ANYTHING BUT NOT HONEY MUFFIN."

“Sugar-"

“If you say sugar daddy I will slap you." I cut her off.

“Fine." She sighed. "What about honey baby?"

“nO."

“Muffin?"

“Nope."

“Sweetie?"

“Absolutely not."

“HONEY MUFFIN BUBBY BOO!"

“If you say one more nickname like that I will kick you out of my house."

“Whale?"

“Whale is better than honey muffin."

“IS THAT A YES?" Jane got excited. I glared at her and didn't respond. She stared at me without blinking for almost a minute.

“What?" I asked wondering if there was something on my face.

“I'm so gay."

“Really?" I asked sarcastically.

“oh yes, I'm gay and have a gorgeous boyfriend that I wanna name whale."

“I'm gay and have a gorgeous girlfriend who wants to call me whale." I put my head back down on a pillow on my bed and stared at Jane with a giant smile.

“Well...whale... I was thinking that I should tell my parents about us." My unspoken staring contest came to an end as my eyes widened and blinked in surprise.

“Really?"

“Yes. I want to."

“Like right now?" I asked. She stared up at the ceiling for a moment, maybe hoping to get answers.

“Yes. Right now."

“Right now right now?"

“No, tomorrow right now." She said sarcastically. “Yes right now, come with me." She got up from my bed and went by my side and I held out her hand.

“Alright." I grabbed her soft small hand and followed her downstairs. “Mom I'll be back in a minute! Going to go out with Jane!" Right before we walked outside my mom called back to us.

“Don't die!" Jane and I stopped and looked at each other laughing. Great encouragement mom.

Jane stopped at the door and looked at me nervously. I gave her a reassuring look and a nod.
She walked inside and called to her mom. Jane's parents were likable I guess but I hate hearing her parents yell, with each other and Jane, all the time.

“Mom?" Jane had called for the second time.

“What?! I'm on the phone." She called back from her room.

“It's important." The house filled with silence for a few long moments before Jane's mom came out of her room. “Is dad here?" Jane asked her quietly.

“No honey he has a big meeting today. What's this about?" Jane looked at me again nervously.

“Well there is something important I wanted to tell you." Jane grabbed my hand and somehow passed her nervousness to me. There was an awkward silence as her mom waited for Jane to start talking. “Would you be okay if I liked shedrack? Because I do. I know you don't really understand but I want you to." Jane said really fast. She stared at her confused.

“So is," she pointed to Jane and then me, “A thing now?"

“Yes. And shedrack's mom knows. She supports it."

“Okay..."

“So you're not mad?" Jane asked trying to hide her excitement.

“Why would I be? It's probably a phase anyway." The excitement from Jane's face faded away immediately.

“Mom. It's not a phase! I've never really liked a guy like the way I like shedrack. And even if I had, that doesn't make this a phase." Jane said trying to stay calm.

“How do so many people know they are in love? They still need to experience life don't they?" Jane's mum asked so seriously.

“No. Sometimes you just know. But there are people who struggle with trying to figure out who they like."

“Okay. You can go back to Shedrack's house now."

“That's all?"

“What? Do you expect me to make a cake or something? I have stuff to do."

“...ok." Jane had said too quietly for her mom to hear as she walked away. We walked back to my house and into my room without saying much. If it wasn't for Maggie running around us barking we would've probably stayed silent for a while.

"Hi there little pup! Did you miss us?" Jane said as she picked her up and put her on the bed.

“Hey Jane are you okay?"

“Yes." She said without looking away from the dog. I jumped next to her and gave her a hug. Jane smiled and leaned over. She put her hand around my back and kissed me softly without breaking her smile. We continued to kiss until she moved her lips to my neck. I almost couldn't breathe because the butterflies in my stomach were fluttering way too fast. Her lips touch mostly all of my neck and felt like fire. A good type of fire. Her lips went back to mine and her hands started to lift up my shirt. I broke apart for a moment.

“Wait." I got up from the bed and slowly closed my door, hoping my mom wouldn't hear it close. I sat with her again. She instantly pulled me down and lifted my shirt off of me. My heart raced fast enough I wondered if she could hear it.

I leaned closer to her and pulled her small shirt off too. I kissed down her neck and i went down to her chest, closer to her bra. Goosebumps filled my entire body when I felt her hands trying to unclip my trouser.

As she was slipping it off we heard her phone ring. She stopped for a moment and looked at me. Then she ignored it and took my trouser all the way off. I shivered and leaned closer to her removing her bra. Her phone stopped ringing. Jane slowly got on top of me and I laid all the way down. Her phone started ringing again.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME, WHY CAN'T WE HAVE ONE MAKE OUT SESSION WITHOUT A FREAKING INTERRUPTION." Jane yelled and slid off of me to grab her phone. She looked at who was calling and then looked at me. She looked surprised. “It's my mom."

CHAPTER 29
[he's back]

“Maggie don't you eat my shoes!" Jane yelled as she was trying to put her shoes on.

“Maybe dogs eat shoes because that's what we put on when we're leaving and they don't want us to leave." I suggested. Jane dropped what she was holding and just stared at me.

“But that's so sad." She frowned and pet Maggie again. “I'll be right back I just need to go tell my mom I'm staying over tonight." She assured the little puppy.

I opened my front door while Jane continued trying to get Maggie away from her shoes. I almost jumped when I saw Rick on my doorstep.

“What the hell are you doing here?" I yelled.

“I just came to tell you that Jane doesn't love you. She's so over you. You're so annoying! She's been in love with me since she first saw me I bet. You're trash. She wants a boy who can actually be loved. And your hair looks like a pile of poop. Anyway she's with me now. Probably because my body is way hotter than yours." he told me smiling like a demon. DID HE JUST INSULT MY HAIR OH HELL NO. Jane had got her shoes on and came to the door.

“You are a lying demon Rick!" Jane said.

“Oh good you're here! Tell Shedrack about us!" Rick stood there so proud of himself. What is wrong with him? All of a sudden Jane's hand collided with Rick's cheek. I stood there in shock, Rick did the same but soon resorted to laughter. "Ha! Oh that's just something we do all the time now!" he looked at me with an evil smile and rose his hand, about slap Jane back.

Before his hand reached Janw's face I quickly grabbed a hold of his arm. Even if he was taller than me, I could intimidate him. “Don't. You. EVER. Touch. Her. Seriously leave my house before I call the police." I let go of his arm with force.

Rick backed up slowly down my front yard. Before he completely walked away he blew Jane a kiss. Jane quickly slammed the front door.

“Wait can you actually call the police if someone attempts to slap you after you slapped them?" She asked me.

“I have no idea." I laughed.

“Either way, that was hot."

“What was?"

“What you just did. Hotness chart level one hundred. he probably won't bug us for at least another week."

“Um," I chuckled and Jane pulled me into a kiss. I wrapped my arms around her and she moved her hands down my back.

Wow I missed her these past few days. She's an amazing kisser. And amazing in general.

“Does my hair really look like crap? Do I even have an okay body?" I asked Jane as we laid on my bed. She instantly sat up.

“Your hair is the color of hot chocolate. And your body is like an hourglass. You're a god.

“Thanks Jane." She leaned over to kiss me but I stopped her. “Can you go get some ice cream from downstairs for me pretty please?" I asked softly. She sighed and got up.

“I'd do everything and anything to you." She said

“Don't you mean for me?"

“Wait did I just say that out loud...?" She asked.

"Yes. Yes you did." I laughed at her.

Chapter 28
[Forgiveness]

BACK TO SHEDRACK'S POINT OF VIEW.

"Shedrack please. Please don't make me leave. I'll literally do anything to make you forgive me." Jane looked distraught. Maybe at this point I was over reacting. She obviously feels terrible. But I'm still upset. 'You didn't let me finish. Get out and get me a dog."

“What?" Dogs are the best thing on the planet.

"I love dogs. I want a dog."

“Are you saying that if I leave right now and come back with a dog, you'll forgive me?"

“I'll think about it." I smiled at her. She smirked and sprinted out of my house.

“Hey mom!" I called her. "We're getting a dog!" She matched in my room.

“You are taking care of it. Not me." She walked back out. I took a breathe and jumped onto my bed. I checked my phone and it was only 10 am.

I think I fell back asleep thinking about Jane and trying to convince myself to let it go. Something small jumped on me and I opened my eyes.

"OH MY GOD YOU ACTUALLY GOT ME A DOG." I screamed at Jane. There was a little tiny dog licking my arm. She was black and white and had one blue eye and one brown eye. Her little paws were exploring my bed.

“Do you forgive me?" She asked quietly. I looked up at Jane and she was holding a rose and an ‘I'm sorry' card. I smiled bigger than I thought possible.

“What breed is she?" I asked, stalling her question.

“Part Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, and Labrador mix. Within a year and a half she'll be as big as us. Well as big as you. You're short."

“Shush yourself I'm tall enough." The little puppy walked back over to me. "Oh my god. Oh my god." I looked up at Jane again. “Okay I love you." She laughed in relief and laid down next to me. “So, can we keep her?"

"Yes. Yes we can."

"I can't believe you actually got me a dog." I took the roses and her card,". And how'd you convince whoever was driving you, since you can't drive for your life, to let you have her in their car?" We laughed.

“Well I love you. And I gave the Uber driver a tip."

“Seriously one day an Uber driver is going to kidnap you."

“Not if I have you to teach me how to drive."

I pet the dog that was now barking at us with excitement.

“Hi there little pup." I said in a baby voice. I grabbed Jane's card and opened it.

"Shedrack, I'm so sorry. I should've listened to you. I was so wrong. Please forgive me. I'll let you name the dog. But I love you. And I've never loved anyone else as much as I love you. If I ever do something stupid again, you have the right to slap me. But I promise I won't do something like this ever. You mean the world to me. You're my light.
-Jane"

I sighed.
“I forgive you."

“Thank you thank you thank you!" She was so excited. She kissed me and I felt the sparks again. The wonderful feeling of exploding fireworks in my stomach. The dog barked a cute tiny bark at us again and we broke apart.

"So what should we name her?" Jane asked me.

"Maggie. It fits her I think."

“Do you like the name Maggie?" Jane asked the little puppy. She immediately climbed up Jane and licked her.

“I think she likes her name. So are we going to do anything about that demon?"
“Rick?" She asked and I sarcastically gasped.

“Don't say the devil's name in this house!" We both started laughing at my use of “devil."

“I think he'll get whatever's coming to him. What about you Maggie? What do you think?" Maggie moved from licking Jane's arm and came to sit in between us.

“She is the most adorable thing I've ever seen."

"Just wait until she pees on your bed."

“Shut up Jane you're ruining my mood." We laughed loudly and I pet the tiny puppy that was named Maggie.

Chapter 27
[Get out]

Still on Jane's point of view.

“What the hell is wrong with you?" I yelled at Rick. “Did you not just hear me say I HAVE A BOYFRIEND? he's already mad at me for hanging out with you!" I looked out my window into Shedrack's. I caught his gaze. he stared at me with watery eyes and then shut his blinds.

Okay did shedrack not just see that I pushed Rick off of me? Why is she so mad? God I literally just proved I don't like Rick by doing that.

“And I'm much better than your boyfriend."

"You are not! Seriously what's up with you today?"

“I'm handsome, smarter, funner, I could treat you better, I wouldn't get jealous, and well I obviously have better eyes than shedrack." he laughed.

“Shedrack is the most perfect human being I've ever seen and I could stare shedrack eyes all day, thank you very much!"

“At least my dad loves me enough to actually be home."

"Okay that's it, get the hELL out of my house." I pointed to the door.

“I can't leave without a kiss." Before I could yell at her again she slammed me against the wall. Rick was the same height as me. he moved my hair back.

“Stop." I tried to walk away.

“I don't think so." he laughed and tried to kiss me again. I pushed him off of me as hard as I could and he fell to the wooden floor. I quickly grabbed scissors from my desk.

“GET THE HELL OUT." he slowly stood up.

“I'll be back." he threatened and walked out. I lowered the scissors and slid down the wall. I took a deep breathe and looked back out my window. Shedrack's blinds were out of the way and I saw him looking at me again. he frowned and faded from the window.

Why is he frowning when I obviously don't like Rick? I'm not cheating on him. I mean Rick clearly has some issues but that's not my fault. Jeez. Boys are so complicated.

I sighed as I got up and ran outside. I knocked on her blue door almost ten times before his mom opened it.

“he doesn't want to talk to you right now."

“Please please please let me in. I am so sorry." Shedrack's mom seemed a little upset but she moved aside, letting me in anyway. I instantly ran up the steps and knocked on shedrack's door.

“Shedii?" he didn't answer. “Emory please let me in. I just want to explain." I heard him sniffle. “I'm coming in." I opened his door and walked in.

he was sitting on the floor looking at himself in the mirror. I found a tear falling down his cheek. I stared at him for thirty seconds. It was very quiet.

“Why didn't you believe me?" he softly asked me. Maybe he did have a valid reason to be mad at me. I wouldn't want him hanging out with someone who liked him. Things happen.

"Shedii, I'm so so so sorry. I don't know why." I sat down next to him and wiped the tear away.

“I'm not accepting your apology. Go be with Rick." he said without moving his glance from the mirror.

“shedrack as you can clearly see, I don't like him. I pushed him away."

“You probably saw me watching so you needed to pretend."

“shedrack I'm serious. You're my everything."

“If I was your everything, maybe you would've thought to ask me where I went after camp. Or if I was alive. I could've been kidnapped dammit! You didn't know where I was but you didn't care. You just wanted to hang out with Rick. You care about him more than me."

"That's not true. If I wanted him, I wouldn't be here right now trying to fix my mistake with the most amazing boy in the world." I wiped another tear away from his cheek.

“Just leave me alone."

“shedii, don't you get it? I only want to be with you. If I had to choose between you and anyone else in the world, I would choose you. Even over Bill gate. Maybe." he half smiled. “I'm so sorry I didn't realize it before. You had a right to be jealous but I didn't listen. I'm sorry. This won't ever happen again. This is one of the worst mistakes of my life."

he shook his head still while looking at the mirror.

“I was wrong. I realize that now. I wish I realized it earlier." This time he shook his head up and down. "Does that mean you forgive me? And we can go watch a movie?"

Shedrack smiled and turned his glance from the mirror. I sighed in relief. She forgives me, thank God. I didn't think he would for a moment. he leaned over close to my face. Right in the perfect moment to kiss him, he stopped me. he then whispered something to me.

“Get. Out."
