iykedare is quite right.
Both are two very different cities and far apart in so many ways. Toronto is freakin busy while London is on the quiet side. Busy means more expensive while London is way cheaper. It now boils down to you as the individual. Choose what you want to do based on your program and your heart desire. Both schools are designated learning institutions so that's out of the way. You might also consider reputation but its really up to you. I am a firm believer of making up ones mind and sticking to it no matter what.

Good day house. I'm going for my masters in software engineering and intelligent systems at the university of Alberta next year. Please I would like to know the job opportunities for me after I'm through. Thanks @ jojcanada holotee

This program will probably take about 2 years. A lot can happen in two (2) years. Most of Alberta's economy relies on Oil and it makes it even more volatile. However right now, this is what i found on indeed ............

Thanks, i appreciate.. am entering there as a jjc, any personal advice i should have in mind?

Be true to yourself and make friends. Ask questions (especially from your Nigerian friends); they have probably gone through what your about to experience. Stay informed. Rules change all the time so u gotta be up to date.

Winter gear CHECKED.. what kind of foodstuff do u recommend i go with.

Whatever food you like is fine. Meanwhile Canadian border security has its own list of prohibited items like diary products, meat, fish (including gala). Beverages that have milk has the first ingredient will also be removed. As long as you declare all the items ure bringing in including cash; you should be fine.

Good day, i am making arrangements for my movement to toronto, i couldnt find a general overview of things i should go with. the DOs and DONTs. I have no idea where to start. I need assistance.

This is a wide open ended question with very little information. I guess you should make sure your winter gear is on point and money of course.

HEY HOUSE, GOOD MORNING. PLS I APPLIED TO CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY FOR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM WHICH IS A YEAR PROGRAM, BUT MY CONTENTION IS THAT WILL I BE ASKED TO PAY FOR THE WHOLE TUITION FEE AT ONCE OR PART PAYMENT. ANYBODY WITH THE PAYMENT IDEA SHOULD HELP WITH GOOD INFORMATION.

Most of the time, especially for certificate programs, schools ask for full payment because its one year. It is on special considerations that they allow part payment. Find a way to contact their International center and they will be in the best position to advise you.

@holotee...Thanks for your response but does this mean that I can't send coloured photocopies of all my certificates? Cos I fear that anything could happen to my originals...

I also would like to know if you are a student there. Would love to contact you.

Thanks

That decision solely depends on WES. When i did my WES evaluation, all they asked for was coloured copies. Don't know if that rule has changed as well.
Was a student at SAIT.

Fellow nairalanders, please I just started my application for a certificate program at SAIT. I was told to submit my original certificates for assessment through WES. For those of us who applied from Nigeria, did you submit your original certificates? If no, please I need your guidance.
Hope to hear from you soon.
DanielUC:
I am an intending student of SAIT too. Please when applying from Nigeria, did you submit your original certificates for the admission processing?

I guess SAIT has changed the rules again this year. When we applied, they had us send our original first degree certificate to them for assessment. If they are asking for it to be done through WES then i guess they are trying to centralize everything. In that case, do something called an educational assessment with WES. You can have them send the result to you and then SAIT.
If you think about it, its kinda better because you will need the WES assessment when applying for your OR later.

My question now is, as a study permit holder do I need an extra work permit to take part in the co-op internship program? And secondly after studies how do I work considering the fact that my study permit will expire after studies...... In need of urgent reply from anyone

There is a permit for Coop required to do internship. After studies you can apply for a work permit to enable you work full time. You need to apply for this permit at least 2 or 3 months before your study permit expires.

Please, i have a female friend who is currently studying medicine in university of debreceen Hungary and she has a fiancé currently studying in Canada. I want to know how possible it is for her to join her fiancé in Canada after her studies and also can she practice medicine in Canada after studying in Hungary, if yes what are the steps...... Thanks you all for your contributions in advance

There are quite a number of questions like this on this thread and the answer is almost the same. She can practice in Canada, She can join him, She will need to do qualifying exams in Canada (with respect to her profession). It requires a lot of paper work and can usually take a long time to process too. If its what they really want to do then they should go for it

Hello all,

I will really appreciate if someone can give some advise on application to lambton college, I have heard stories of the college being a scam and not anything you would have thought in reality.

kindly help a brother.

many thanks in anticipation.

I wonder why those people said it was a scam. The College is 46 years old for crying out loud. Anyway, the important factor to consider is if it is a designated learning institution (DLI). Being a DLI helps you in getting a study permit from CIC. If it is not a DLI, ill advise you move on

So I forfeited my admission to a Nigerian university because of my Canadian dream, I've recently been admitted into a University in Canada and submitted my documents at the Canada Visa Office
Below are the documents I submitted

Admission letter from the Canadian University
WASSCE result
Letter of sponsorship from dad
Dad's bank statement,About 7m
A co-sponsor being a uncle with about 5m bank statement
Dad's landed properties

What's my chance of being given the Study Permit Visa?

These days anything is possible.
Did you submit anything to prove to them that you will be returning to Nigeria ?

Its hard to tell. It depends on who is doing yours for you or where you are doing it.
Personally i think if you are patient enough to do some research and go through numerous threads on NL, you can do it on your own

Please I would like to know what chances I have getting a good job after studying electrical engineering (undergraduate) at the University of Manitoba and also I want to know what steps to take before hand regarding getting a Canadian permanent residence after study

Chances of getting a job is the grace of God and the efforts you make.
Getting a PR, u need to make sure you have one or more of the following in place...
1) English exam (Celpip or ielts)
2) Some work experience (full time or part time)
3) Educational assessment (WES)

Good morning everyone here. I want to apply for a degree in Business Management in a University in Canada. If you know any university that offers the course in Canada (preferably a cheap one), I'd really appreciate it if you can help me with how to go about applying for it.

Thanks in anticipation of your replies.

One of the best way(s) to make progress on your application is to do some research yourself. The mode of application for every university or college isnt necessarily the same. Simply visit to their website and it will be written there in black and white. You will also find full details on their tutition.

Please I have a question, am a student and I'll be resuming for my final year in January here in Nigeria. And I am thinking of doing my master's in industrial chemistry in Canada. .I want to ask if I can start the admission process now for 2018 intakes and if it's advisable to skip NYSC, hope it won't have any negative effects if per chance I wanna stay back and work there. And please what are the reputable schools you think I can apply to with sound chemistry department.
P.S. Anyone currently studying chemistry or related chemistry courses in both undergraduate and master's level should p.m. me or mention me, I have a lot of questions to bore you with. THANKS.

Cc: Justwise

It's never too early to start application for a particular session. As long as the school you're applying to is receiving applications; then you're good to go. Personally i am not a fan of skipping NYSC (especially if u want to go back to naija) but its really up to you. As for which school, that is the work you will have to do by yourself. Except you are lucky to find or meet someone currently taking the course you wan to do.

Good day House,

Please i would like to study in canada masters preferably but an agent said they can only help for pdg (am using agent cos i do not have proof of funds which they promised to provide). my question now is, is pdg okay and would it be possible to get pr while studying? i hope to get advice from this great house.

PGD is very much okay. Most of them have a duration of one year. Studying alone will not guarantee PR. Please take time and go through previous posts in this forum to see the process(s) involved in getting a PR

I have a friend who would love to have his degree in either the UK or Canada... he's married though... now the issue is if he can take his wife along as a dependant since its just a degree program.... please its urgent... Thanks

I believe in deciding on one thing and sticking to it. Canadian and British rules are very far apart. Maybe your friend should make up his mind first and then proceed to the next stage.
As for Canada, nothing is impossible. Its usually just easier to go first and then bring madam later

Hello everyone. Im planning to study phd in construction mgt in university of manitoba canada. I have a wife and kid that i intend to take along in the course of my study. Im in the process of applying. My cgpa for the last 60hrs is 3.95 for first degree and 63.38 for masters in nigerian universities. Do i need to send transcripts for both as they are different unis?
How soon can my wife get a work permit?
Must i have a professor to accept me in unimanitoba?
Pls anyone with general info on this and more should help by responding so i know how to proceed

Duration of work permit depends largely on CIC. There is an average time frame on their website but I will advise you plan ahead.
A professor accepting you is definitely an added bonus but not compulsory. Every school has a liaising person especially for international students. Best thing is to contact them (send email) for more info.

This is wrong advice bro. How on God's green earth can you study for a year and then get a 3 year work permit!!! You're telling him to do something wrong and then place his trust in God for a miracle?! #SMH

Please read my reply again. I never said study for 1 year and get 3 years. I was giving a real life scenario of people that I know personally that got 2 and 3 years work permit after studying for a year. You can decide to play it safe and study for 2 years or take the risk.

Hi holotee i have applied for two different masters programs in Canada one is a 12 month M.Eng program the other is a 2 year M.ASc program. My interest lie more in the first program but the problem is the limited one year work permit i would get when i am done. Should i go for the second program instead?

I have a friend that did a 1 year study, got a one year work permit and he got his PR a month to the expiration of his work permit. I have another one who studied for a year and then got a 3 year work permit. The rule says 1 year study = 1 year work permit; 2 year study = 3 year work permit. Its more at the discretion of the officer viewing your forms and giving you the appropriate permit. Unfortunately you dont choose the officer in charge. You might however be lucky and get more than you're supposed to get. Some people have the "balls" to take that chance. Its really up to you to make up your mind.

Hello holotee, I have a question. I will be starting in U of A in September, however I'm already in Canada because I used another school starting in April for my study permit. I will not be able to finish before September to move to Alberta so I plan to withdraw from this school and ask for a refund. Pls will it be a problem if I stay at home till September? Will I be violating any rules by doing so? Thanks.

I remember the first time i came in too, my peeps wanted me to stay in calgary and withdraw from the college i originally applied to in London. I am happy i declined eventually. It cost me more but the experience i got is priceless. Most colleges hardly do refunds when it comes to tuition. Even if they do refund you, its never 100% and the process can be long and grueling. Also, i don't thing you're allowed to stay out of school for more than 4 months even if its between colleges. Its an automatic red flag for CIC because the question is, what have you been doing in Canada for the last 5 months ? Also, your college is obligated to report to the CIC if you are not attending classes. Its part of the audit process.
