MTV is embracing change. In nearly three decades on the air, almost everything about the cable network -- from its programming, to its focus, to its place in popular culture -- has changed with the times, except for its famous tagline, "Music television." Recently, the network quietly unveiled a new logo which has dropped the tagline entirely, indicating that MTV itself is leaving its original mission of an all-music channel in the dust. The new logo is meant to put the focus on MTV's current slate of talent -- the stars of mostly reality shows like "Jersey Shore," "Teen Mom," and "The Buried Life." Since the logo (which seems to have a shorter "M" than the original) is also available in a see-through model, it can change when new stars come into the fold. Tina Exarhos, a spokesperson for MTV's marketing team, explained the change to "The New York Daily News": "If you watch the channel, you've seen that it's definitely going in a new direction. We really wanted to see the logo featured in a new way, and this was really meant to be able to house all the great things that are happening at MTV at any given time." When MTV first revolutionized television in 1981, it was based on the idea of one network devoted entirely to music, a central hub where fans could watch music videos, see interviews with their favorite recording artists, and even get their news from a music fan's point of view. The channel was also a valuable promotional tool for the music industry itself, which no longer had to depend mainly on radio to get its product on an audience's radar. But over the years, MTV morphed into a channel that focused less on any one theme and more on targeting a specific teen and young-adult audience, ditching its music roots to deliver whatever the network perceived that audience wanted. And, clearly, that audience is more into shows like "Jersey Shore" than old-school music video blocks like "120 Minutes." "The MTV brand, to me, stands for such an irreverent groundbreaking brand, and unfortunately I feel a little underwhelmed when I look at this," Hamish McLennan, global chairman-CEO of advertising powerhouse Young & Rubicam, told Ad Age. The new logo and its focus on the personalities that drive the channel is based on recent show successes like "Jersey Shore," which turned its stars into celebrities overnight. According to Ad Age, MTV is looking into developing a new tagline to match its new logo.

The number of pics u have aint the problem but the content of the pics. He is your brother not God. He is entitled to his own opinion. Never judge a book by the cover. |

Visitors to the Ontario House at the upcoming Winter Games in Vancouver will be able to use brain waves to control a light display at one of three landmarks: Toronto's CN Tower, Ottawa's Parliament building, and Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls. Ever wish you could move objects using only your thoughts? That vision is becoming closer to reality. Toronto-based Interaxon has created technology that lets users control a series of lights using only their minds. At this month's Winter Olympics in Vancouver, visitors to the Ontario House will be able to try out the technology, using their brain waves to control lights at either Toronto's CN Tower, Niagara Falls, or Ottawa's Parliament building. Users wear a headset that measures the brain's alpha waves--associated with relaxation--and beta waves, associated with concentration. By focusing or relaxing, a signal is sent to a computer, which then associates a change in the lights with that thought and transmits it over the Internet to one of the three light shows. Each of the three light shows is different. In Ottawa for example, the light show covers the Parliament building with glowing snowflakes. "When they get to 100 percent concentration the lights on the roof come on," Interaxon Chief Operating Officer Trevor Coleman said in an e-mail interview. "It looks really amazing." For Niagara, users will get 15 seconds to use their brainwaves to chose the color for each of seven lights that illuminate Horseshoe Falls. Finally, Olympics goers will be able to control the intensity of lights that travel up and down Toronto's CN Tower as well as the speed of the "radome" that spins under the observation deck. "As people concentrate the radome will spin faster and the lights on the elevator shaft and antenna will become brighter and more intense," Coleman said. "As they relax the lights will spin slower and be less intense." Now if only Olympics organizers could use their thoughts to make it snow more at Cypress Mountain. Interaxon is just one of many working on thought-controlled technology. Honda, for example, has a robot that can be controlled using brain waves. At last month's Consumer Electronics Show, Mattel introduced a new Mindflex game that enables a person to control the height of a floating ball using their mind. The technology also holds promise for letting amputees have easier control over artificial limbs. For more on how Interaxon's technology works, the company has an explanatory page on its Web site. Or check out their video, embedded below. I plan to try the technology out firsthand later this month when Beyond Binary heads to Vancouver to cover the technology of the Winter Games. |

Stars and Celebrities gathered together to do a remake of the song "we are the world". What gives me the chills is the rapid instant change of those that sang it in the past compared to the new ones. Back then it was Don Williams, stevie wonder, tina turner, Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, Diana ross etc. And now it's tpain, jamie foxx, miley cyrus, the Jo bros, snoop dogg, tyrese, etc.

To be honest with you; It's your girlfriend. You know her more than anyone on NL. Take a chill pill and relax. Be a lil creative and do something right from your heart. there's nothing they'll tell you here that will make sense. You have her heart so use that as a fulcrum and get her something nice ! |

A couple of days ago we mentioned that we hadn't heard from PETA yet about President Obama's deadly attack on an innocent housefly who set up residence in the White House. That doesn't mean they didn't care. They were just slow on the draw. But don't take that as a lack of interest. Oh, they're interested, Condemnation Obama's ninja-like moves, which resulted in the murder of said fly on Tuesday, has resulted in harsh condemnation of the president by the animal rights group. Well, maybe not that harsh. They view Obama's actions as perhaps more of a teachable moment. "He isn't the Buddha, he's a human being, and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they act," writes Alisa Mullins on the PETA blog. Gift To that end, they're sending him a PETA-branded "Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher". It allows you to place "the device over the bug and slowly slide its plastic trapdoor shut. The bug will step onto the trapdoor as it closes, and you can carry Katcha Bug outside, where all you need to do is slide the trap door open, allowing the bug to walk away." Well, that's nice. But the use of this instrument would have resulted in a far less dramatic scene. Obama walked away from the interview looking like Chuck Norris. Who knows how high Obama's approval rating will soar as a result of the tough-on-defense action. Compassion Doesn't make any difference to PETA. They believe the president needs to show compassion regardless of high polling numbers. "We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals." Until he shows more compassion, will members of PETA show up in giant fly costumes protesting the president? We're guessing probably not. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/The-Vote/2009/0618/peta-condemns-obama-for-murdering-innocent-fly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzgOS8dbF64 |
