Thousands of National Guardsmen were “banished” to a cramped parking garage after being abruptly forced to leave parts of the US Capitol grounds Thursday, according to reports.

Officers were told they could no longer access areas of the US Capitol Complex — including a Senate office cafeteria previously used as a rest area — after tirelessly protecting the nation’s capital in the days leading up to the presidential inauguration, according to Politico.

“We honestly just feel betrayed,” one Guardsman told the outlet. “After everything went seamlessly, we were deemed useless and banished to a corner of a parking garage.”

One unit of 5,000 officers — enlisted after the deadly US Capitol breach earlier this month — was forced to take breaks in a nearby garage with no internet reception, a single electrical outlet and only two bathroom stalls, the report said.


Photos appear to show officers lying on the cement ground to rest and sleeping while leaning against concrete pillars inside the garage, angering some officers.

“We feel incredibly betrayed,” a Guardsman said. “Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage.”

Roughly 25,000 National Guard troops were called to Washington DC from all 50 states to protect the city during President Joe Biden’s inauguration due to heightened security concerns following the deadly US Capitol siege on Jan. 6, which claimed the lives of five people.

Many of those officers had been using a café in the Dirksen Senate Office Building as a spot to relax on breaks and connect to the internet, only to be ordered to vacate the Capitol and nearby congressional buildings on Thursday afternoon, officers told the outlet.

The National Guard Bureau said the troop had been temporarily relocated because Congress is in session.

“The National Guard continues to assist and support the U.S. Capitol Police. As Congress is in session and increased foot traffic and business is being conducted, Capitol Police asked the troops to move their rest area,” the National Guard Bureau said in a statement. “They were temporarily relocated to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center garage with heat and restroom facilities. We remain an agile and flexible force to provide for the safety and security of the Capitol and its surrounding areas.”

But the incident sparked outrage among some lawmakers who vowed to find them a way to stay inside the Capitol building.

“My office is available; the Guard is welcome to it. There is plenty of space in the US Capitol for the men and women keeping us safe,” Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Arizona) tweeted Thursday night.

A US National Guard spokesman later told a FOX News reporter that troops will likely be moved to the Capitol Visitors Center amid outrage over the garage situation.

COPAN, Honduras (AP) — More than 9,000 Honduran migrants pushed their way into Guatemala Friday night without registering, a portion of a larger migrant caravan that had left the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula before dawn, Guatemalan authorities said. The caravan of Migrants are expected to arrive in the US on the day of Joe Biden inauguration.

Video shared by the Guatemala Immigration Institute showed cheering people streaming in while border agents looked on and tried to keep them from blocking traffic.

Honduran migrants began walking toward the Guatemalan border, driven by deepening poverty and the hope of a warmer reception if they can reach the United States border.

On Friday, Mexico’s National Immigration Institute kept up its dissuasive campaign, again posting videos showing hundreds of agents and National Guard members drilling on the southern border.

In a statement, Francisco Garduño Yáñez, head of Mexico’s National Immigration Institute, said, “We have to guarantee our national territory, an orderly, safe and legal migration with respect for human rights and with humanitarian policies.” He lashed out at those he said take advantage of immigrants and make a living from illegal immigration.

The cause of his death is still disputed.

According to court records obtained by the DailyMail, before moving to Minneapolis in 2014, George Floyd was released from prison in Texas. He worked as a bouncer at a local restaurant.

Floyd had been sentenced to five years in prison in 2009 for aggravated assault stemming from a robbery where Floyd entered a Pregnant woman’s home, pointed a gun at her stomach and searched the home for drugs and money, according to court records

Floyd along with another suspect posed as a worker for the local water department wearing a blue uniform in order to enter a woman’s house. When the woman retaliated a Ford Explorer pulled up to the home and five other males exited the car and went up to the front door.

The final straw for Floyd came after serving five years in prison in 2009 for aggravated assault stemming from a robbery where he entered a woman’s home, pressed a gun into her stomach and searched the home for drugs and money, according to court records (pictured)

The report states the largest of the group, who the victim later identified as Floyd, ‘forced his way inside the residence, placed a pistol against the complainant’s abdomen, and forced her into the living room area of the residence.

‘This large suspect then proceeded to search the residence while another armed suspect guarded the complainant, who was struck in the head and sides by this second armed suspect with his pistol while she screamed for help.’

Not finding any drugs or money at the house, the men took jewelry and the woman’s cell phone and fled in their car. A neighbor who witnessed the robbery took down the car’s license plate number.

Later, police tracked down the car and found Floyd behind the wheel. He was later identified by the woman as the large suspect who placed a gun against her stomach and forced her into her living room, the document states. 

Floyd had at least five stints in jail. In one of the charging documents, officials noted Floyd had two convictions in the 1990s for theft and delivery of a controlled substance, but it is not clear if Floyd served any time for either of those offenses

Floyd was sentenced to 10 months in state jail for possession of cocaine. Floyd had two other cocaine offenses, receiving an eight month-sentence stemming from an October 2002 arrest and was sentenced to 10 months from a 2004 arrest.
