bizzle*: You strike me as a very promising young man whose confusion stems from the environment around him. If choosing CWI is mostly for the money then, be sure that your weigh the pros and cons properly; a brief insight: What if you are unable to get the right connections? What if your connection is no more there when you become CWI (trust me, it happened to me)? What if CWI kills/dampens your interest and talent (Good with your hands)? I have not done a thorough evaluation about you and your background but, one thing I can say from the answers you have given is: CWI might fetch you some good income (for a while) but other specialties will definitely do much better for you. Next round of questions: 1. Do you aspire to study up to PhD level if given the opportunity? 2. Do you aspire to be an inventor - converting your innovative skills into legacy and cash? If yes, drop me an email (hopevilleedu@gmail.com) and we can exchange ideas further. All the best. |

afo01: It's been a debate amidst most students that knowledge and/or understanding are vital in achieving academic excellence. It won't be an understatement to pick one above the other because one of them leads to the other. Knowledge is what most students believe in but I think in order to achieve academic excellence understanding is required. Understanding can be figuratively be said to be the body of it but knowledge can be said to be the mind behind it. Want to hear more on peoples view about this. Which do you think is more important. Thanks This is an endless debate. Students need knowledge, understanding, innovation and many more elements in the same proportion. If these elements are unbalanced in anyway, you will become an unbalanced human being. Please, watch the movie titled '3-Idiots'. It tells of the real situation in an Indian University where knowledge is appraised over understanding and innovation. Quite a funny movie but interestingly educative. I studied in Nigeria and abroad among students of different nationalities and different academic beliefs. Take it from me, knowledge can never be traded for understanding neither can understanding be traded for knowledge. |

bizzle*: There are some important questions you need to ask yourself: 1. Why did I study Mech. Eng in the first place? 2. Are those reasons still valid today? 3. Why do I want to become a CWI? 4. What is my interest and drive? If you can answer the above two questions truthfully to yourself, you may as well be on your path to career excellence in no time. Maybe I should wait for your answers before I say further... All I can tell you at this point is "BEING IN A FIX CAN BE THE STARTING POINT OF AMAZING EXCELLENCE... IT CAN ALSO BE THE STARTING POINT OF DISGUSTING RUIN" 2 Likes |

Doctoral Positions at the Graduate School of Excellence ‘JSMC’, Germany Study Subject(s):Survival strategies of humanpathogenic zygomycetes inside macrophages Course Level: PhD Scholarship Provider: JSMC Scholarship can be taken at: Germany Eligibility: A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural or Life Sciences (Biology, Veterinary or Human Medicine). Candidates about to earn their degree are welcome to apply. A solid background in standard techniques of molecular biology and microbiology is expected. Knowledge of and hands on experience in fluorescence microscopy, infection biology, or cell culture techniques are advantageous. The aim of the project is to monitor the interplay between zygomycetous pathogens and human hosts at the cellular level. Murine cell lines of macrophages will be infected with spores from pathogenic zygomycetes and investigated with confocal laser scanning microscopy. In parallel the zygomycetes will be subjected to amoebae to test the hypothesis that the survival strategies for soil-borne, potentially human pathogenic fungi after ingestion by macrophages and amoebae are similar. The parameters derived from fungus-macrophage/amoebae interactions will be modeled by systembiological (game theoretical) approaches. Deadline: March 16, 2012 for applicants who will require a visa to enter Germany. April 16, 2012 for applicants who will not require a visa to enter Germany. |

A student asked us this question through our email and we will like to share it here so that other students can benefit from it: Question: Is there a difference between PhD and Research? Answer: There is a slight difference even though they may be used interchangeably. PhD is the degree awarded while research is a systematic search for knowledge. The award boosts your socio-educational standing and increases your income but, the research is what drives you even after receiving the award. So, somebody may be interested in obtaining a PhD (award) but, not very much interested in the research (that may even continue after the degree is awarded). Most scholarship providers/companies don't want people who just need the award; they want people who love research. They need people who will research with/for them even after they have received their PhD award. Hope this is helpful. Remember, education is the bedrock for a better and wholesome future. |
