Police Report on Aluu 4 here: https://www.nairaland.com/1075151/police-why-couldnt-save-aluu |
cheleku: common man. It should be obvious who is lying here. From the IG's comment, the policemen were chased away by the angry mob with stones. Doesnt it sound ridiculous that armed police men were chased away by a stone- wielding mob. What has happned to warning shots? I doubt if they mob wouldnt have dispersed had the police fired warning shots.Normally after just one shot in the air most of the people in the crowd will start running for their life. Something else doesn't add up: Why the police returned to the police station for backup when they could have just used their phones or make that call for backup with the police-radio in their car?. |
Wait a minute. . . I'm just thinking, emergency call was made and they sent only 4 policemen? Hmmn.
And if they were called for armed robbers they should have also come with sufficient bullets and more than 4 policemen. |
Nigerian Forces ‘Guilty Of Crimes Against Humanity’ October 12 2012 Nigerian security forces as well as Islamist extremist group, Boko Haram may both be guilty of crimes against humanity over violence that has killed nearly 3,000 people, Human Rights Watch said Thursday. In a 98-page report laying out alleged abuses by Nigerian security forces and killings committed by the Islamists, the New York-based rights group describes extra-judicial killings, torture and brutal attacks. “According to witnesses, (a security task force) has engaged in excessive use of force, physical abuse, secret detentions, extortion, burning of houses, stealing money during raids, and extrajudicial killings of suspects,” the report says. “These killings, and clashes with the group, have raised the death toll of those killed by Boko Haram or security forces to more than 2,800 people since 2009.” It said Boko Haram is believed to have killed at least 1,500 people since July 2009. The report adds later that “Human Rights Watch’s research suggests that crimes against humanity may have been committed both by state agents and members of Boko Haram.” A violent insurgency by Boko Haram has rocked northern and central Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, and security forces have often been accused of responding brutally. https://cdn.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Nigeria-police-logo.jpg Earlier this week, residents claimed as many as 30 people were killed during a rampage by soldiers after a bomb attack in the northeastern city of Maiduguri, Boko Haram’s stronghold. The military denied the accusations. The report calls for investigations and prosecutions of soldiers or police officers responsible for abuses, something Human Rights Watch says Nigeria has largely failed to do. It also criticises Nigeria over its handling of arrests of suspected extremists, saying that in Maiduguri and the city of Kano, “the authorities no longer even bring formal charges against Boko Haram suspects.”“Nigeria has kept Boko Haram suspects in detention often incommunicado without charge or trial for months or even years and has failed to register arrests or inform relatives about the whereabouts of detainees,” it says. At the same time, Boko Haram has carried out brutal attacks, including suicide bombings and assassinations. The report describes episodes from 2009 of Christian men being killed for refusing to convert to Islam. “The unlawful killing by both Boko Haram and Nigerian security forces only grows worse; both sides need to halt this downward spiral,” Daniel Bekele, Africa director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement.“Nigeria’s government should swiftly bring to justice the Boko Haram members and security agents who have committed these serious crimes.” Boko Haram has claimed to be fighting for the creation of an Islamic state in Nigeria, though its demands have repeatedly shifted. Nigeria’s 160 million population is roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south. Mobinga: Yes it is, and from his words you conclude.Conclude what?.I just told you that there was NO conclusion from me. It is YOU who accused me of making a conclusion. The report is from the police, not from me. I just posted the police report with no personal opinion. |
Mobinga: Based on this report? He even explicitly used "suspects".What do you mean?, so just because I said that the lynchers will never know peace I am now not different from the lynchers?. Now notice that Mohammed Abubakar said that Felemo Solomon; Cynthia Chinwo; Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Samuel Evans have been closely linked to this barbarous act. This is not my personal conclusion, it is the words of Mohammed Abubakar himself. |
Nigeria’s police boss, Mohammed Abubakar has revealed why the police failed to save the four students of the University of Port Harcourt, gruesomely killed by a mob in Aluu. Read the Police report here: https://www.nairaland.com/1075151/police-why-could-not-save |

Let's get these murderers. Now we got the names of four suspects who lynched the students, namely: Felemo Solomon; Cynthia Chinwo; Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Samuel Evans. Also Coxson Lelebori Lucky, alias ‘Bright’, the guy who raised a false alarm by saying that the victims were armed robbers. (He is still on the run from the Police). They will never know peace, NEVER. |

Police: Why we could not save the Port Harcourt 4 Published on October 15, 2012 Nigeria’s police boss, Mohammed Abubakar has revealed why the police failed to save the four students of the University of Port Harcourt, gruesomely killed by a mob in Aluu, in Rivers state on 5 October. In a statement issued today in Abuja, titled ‘Update ON ON-GOING INVESTIGATIONS ON ALUU KILLING: Rivers State: Murder of Four (4) Students of University of Port-Harcourt:”, the Inspector General of police explained that his men were chased away with stones by the mob attacking the boys. He said when a reinforced team of policemen returned to the scene, the boys had been killed and burnt by the mob.“On 5th October, 2012 at about 0700Hrs, based on a distress call that some armed robbers were arrested at Omukiri-Aluu area in Ikwerre LGA, a patrol team of four Policemen from Isiokpo Divisional Police Headquarters was dispatched to the area, a distance of about 10kms. The Police on getting to the scene met a mob attack on four victims who were supposedly the suspected armed robbers. Attempt made by the Police Patrol Team to take over the suspects were met with stiff opposition from the mob who chased the team with stones. “Consequently, the Patrol Team called for reinforcements, but unfortunately, upon the arrival of the reinforcements, the alleged armed robbery suspects have been stoned and burnt to death, while the mob immediately took to their heels. The corpses were recovered by the Police who by then have been joined by members of the Joint Task Force (JTF).”The students killed were: Ugunna Obuzor- aged 18 Years; 200 Level Geology student; Lloyd Toku- aged 19 Years; 200 Level Civil Engineering student; Tekena Elkanah- aged 20 Years, a Diploma Technical student and Chiadaka Odinga- aged 20 Years, 200 Level Theatre Arts student. Mohammed Abubakar The Inspector General’s statements only confirmed the criticisms by witnesses that the police simply abandoned the students to their fate when they got to the scene of lynching. A relation of one of the victims actually accused the police of encouraging the mob to kill the boys. However, the IGP was not join issues with critics but went on to outline the efforts the police are making to arrest the culprits. Abubakar said the Police immediately launched an investigation leading to the arrest (based on information) of Alhaji Hassan Welewa, the Traditional Ruler of Omukiri Community, Aluu where the heinous incident took place and eighteen (18) others, some of whom are members of the vigilante group of the community. “Intelligence report implicated Alhaji Hassan Welewa, as being the person who incited the mob to unleash terror on the victims. Further investigation conducted by the police indicates that four (4) suspects, namely: Felemo Solomon; Cynthia Chinwo; Ozioma Abajuo and Chigozie Samuel Evans have been closely linked to this barbarous act. “Findings have revealed that the victims had gone to the area where they met their unfortunate death earlier that morning to demand for money allegedly owed to them by Coxson Lelebori Lucky, alias ‘Bright’, who raised a false alarm that the victims were armed robbers. Although, Coxson has gone underground, Detectives are on his trail. Investigation is ongoing with efforts being intensified to track down others who are involved in the incident. Those who are found culpable shall be prosecuted. Abubakar said the police have in the meantime made a massive deployment of Policemen to the area, including detectives to assist the State Police Command. “Normalcy has been restored in the area, while the situation in the area, especially in the University and other tertiary institutions are being closely monitored with a view to forestalling any untoward reactions. “Efforts are being intensified to establish the motive(s) behind this crime, arrest all who may be directly or indirectly connected with the crime and eventually bring all indicted persons to book. “I wish to use this medium to advice and appeal to Nigerians to see it as their civic obligation in the fight against crime and criminality, to assist security agencies in the discharge of their responsibility. Security is everybody’s responsibility and so, should not be abandoned in the hands of security agencies alone. The maximum cooperation of the public is needed to ensure that Nigeria is safe for all. “Nigerians are further reminded to avoid taking laws into their hands, as two wrongs can never make a right. More so, it is criminal and against the laws of the land and those that do so will surely be made to face the full wrath of the law. “In addition, the IGP appeals to citizens who might have information touching on this and other on-going Police investigation not to hesitate in turning over such information to the Nigeria Police Force. “May I assure Nigerians that the Police Force will do everything legitimate, within its capacity, to ensure that perpetrators of these dastardly acts at Aluu in Rivers State are identified and made to face the law. Do you have a picture of any gun found on the scene? NO, even the police didnt find any evidence. Again, you have no evidence. |
velo10: Did the Vigilante in Aluu kill the poor students with arms? The reason why Vigilante carry arms in Nigeria is simply because of the police system.Yes they did, using petrol and matches to set suspect thieves ablaze can be considered as using arms and should be a criminal offence. They can only arrest suspects and hand them over to the police but if they lynch without judgement they can be in trouble. If the vigilantes Burn alive a suspect it is killing. |
Lagos Police Bars Vigilante Groups From Carrying Arms BY EUGENE AGHA, 15 OCTOBER 2012 Lagos — The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko yesterday said it is a criminal offence for members of vigilante groups to carry rifles. Manko's reaction may not be unconnected with the killing of four undergraduate students of the University of Port Harcourt by suspected members of a vigilante group at the instance of their village head. The Lagos State police boss said vigilante groups are supposed to work with the police at the local level. "They can arrest suspects and hand them over to the police whose responsibility it is to investigate and prosecute if the need arises. It is a criminal offence for members of the vigilante to carry guns," he maintained. Manko said anyone seen with a gun must have a valid license for it and such individual must have been duly screened by the appropriate authorities. "So it is a crime for one to have a privately licensed gun and in turn hand over same to vigilante group for security purposes," he said. Manko explained that if a vigilante member is arrested with a rifle issued to him by another person they will be arrested for illegal possession of fire arms. He noted that members of the vigilante are there to complement efforts of the police, not to usurp the responsibility of the police. It will be recalled that four undergraduate students of the University of Port Harcourt were gruesomely killed by suspected members of a vigilante group at Aluu community in Rivers State. The Inspector General of Police has vowed to fish out the killers, saying such barbaric act cannot be tolerated in any part of the country. Source: http://allafrica.com/stories/201210140202.html |
redsun: He could be under pressure from the rogue system to kill off the case,.Because in a normal world, even the president could be liable to resignation for that crime. It shows a system that is not functional at all,a system where there is no police, where there is no rationality and a system where there is no law.You are right, they are realy trying to swept this case of lynching under the rug. Notice how we are not hearing much about arrests anymore in the Aluu community. Strange isn't it? |

plappville: How did the church came about having Jesus and Mary's image/photo, was it from the bible? I am just wonderingBlack people of the world, we need to rid ourselves of this pale white hippie image that has clouded our memory of who and what we are. When you see these images and statues in the homes of friends and family, kindly ask them to remove it. You are not asking them to rid their beliefs, but rid themselves of the false images and race propaganda set against us as a people. |

They labelled my son a thief to kill him – Chidiaka’s father ONE of the parents of the slain UNIPORT students, Mr. Steven Biringa, has insisted that his son, Chiadika, was labelled a thief by his assailants so that they could find a reason to kill him. Biringa told our correspondent in Port Harcour, Rivers State on Thursday that his son had a good upbringing. He said it was unfortunate for members of the Aluu community to kill his son “over spurious claims”. Biringa, from Obowo Local Government of Imo State, said Chiadika was always contented with what he had and would only plead with his parents to get what he needed. He said, “I have always said that if you have seen me, you have seen my child. My child was full of humility. The issue of stealing or being an armed robber is unimaginable. He is dead and would not be here to defend himself. “They (slain students) were supposed to be trained to take charge when we leave the stage. So why would somebody get up one day and give them a bad name and kill them? It’s just like giving a dog a bad name in order to kill it. “It is not just killing the young men, but the manner which they did it is more annoying. I know my son will die one day just like you and I, but why now and why should it be in the most unacceptable form? “I don’t see Chiadika going to pick somebody’s thing. It is unfortunate that he is being labelled a thief or an armed robber or whatever name they must have given to him. “But I know that till tomorrow, if I meet him after this planet earth, I am sure he would remain what he has always been. Chiadika is never a thief and will never be a thief.” Biringa appealed to government to allow the law to take its cause in the matter. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association on Thursday demanded the prosecution of those behind the killing of students of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamawa State and University of Port Harcourt. NBA President, Mr. Emeka Wali, made the demands at a press conference in Abuja. About 40 students of Mubi Polytechnic were killed by gunmen on October 2. Also, four students of UNIPORT set ablaze by a mob in Aluu community near the institution on Friday. Wali stressed that anything short of the identification and prosecution of the killers in the two incidents was not acceptable. He said, “The NBA notes with concern, the alarming rate of insecurity in the country and the attendant debasement of our national psyche, leading to disregard for the sanctity of human life. “We condemn the perpetrators of these and many other dastardly acts and urge the security agencies to restore the confidence of Nigerians in their ability to protect lives and properties of Nigerians. “In this regard, nothing short of the identification and prosecution of the Mubi and Aluu killers and collaborators will assuage the feelings of Nigerians.” The NBA said the two incidents were indications of a total system failure. “There is no disputing the fact that these show a total system failure. Neither of these dastardly acts took place in a time frame that the security agencies would not have arrived the scene and prevented the murders, if there had been timely intervention,” the association said. The NBA argued that the development had justified its call for the establishment of state police. Wali added, “The NBA repeats its support for the call for state police, we believe that it will inter-alia, aid adequate funding, training and intelligence gathering. These deaths were preventable with timely intervention by the police. “Our policing system today has failed, it is underfunded and so ill equipped and incapable of protecting lives and property.” Source: http://www.osundefender.org/?p=41547 |
