It's safer to kill someone with a knife than with a gun because you might not escape the consequences when someone hears the shot.
I've lived in a town where 90 percent of the residents have guns in their houses and it has been like that for more than a decade, yet all these crimes you mention never occur. Robbers and killer herdsmen are terrified of coming close. It's the safest town I've ever lived in.
