Nigeria's Minimum wage is far low compared to some of these African countries. Some people might want to argue that we should factor in the population of this countries as compared to Nigeria, that's a valid point too. But then, if we should fact in size of population then we can as well consider the size of the Civil service in each countries population. This will make a nonsense of the argument of population as the size of civil service in Nigeria is far lesser than other countries when compared to total population.
The total size of Nigeria's civil service is less than 2% of the entire population.
But in Nigeria, that less than 2% civil service population take up 65% of National budget. What that means is that 2% takes up 65% budget while 98% benefit from 35% indirectly in terms of infrastructures.

The problems associated with Nigeria's minimum wage are as followed:
1. Over bloated civil service ( a good percentage of the civil service are ghost workers). Right sizing of the civil service is what is obtainable in other countries.

2. Unproductive civil service. When a work force is productive it can generate funds to necessitate pay rise. Nigerian civil service is unproductive hence their low pay. In other climes, the civil service is highly productive and digitalized to ensure efficiency.

3. Highly skewed salary structure culminating in wage disparity or income gaps. The civil service structure is such that the huge chunk of the wages goes to a few at the top managerial positions while those at the bottom get peanuts. While members of Assembly as getting millions, the lower workers are paid less than 30k. In other countries wage disparity is almost minimal.

$20 to $400 in Seychelles, no argument here, we are not just didn't things the right way

Tinubu is not going to make it work unless he put the right steps to make the country work. Expect the minimum wage to rise his next tenure. Better wake up to reality

Hopefully we can emulate those countries. Rome isn’t build a day…. Bad governance is dragging us backward

Isn't that a good reason the min wage should be high? The more people you feed, the higher the expenses , except you want to throw them into hunger, as seen in Nigeria today

Your large population is expected to positively impact your bottom line. See India, China, USA, Brazil.

You just confirmed that Nigerians are not productive. Their successive governments have failed to position the country on the path of productivity.

This government is no exception.

Corruption is actually the reason we are in this mess situation. Our leaders are the problem, they are very useless people

It is not about size or population, it about having creditable leaders with less corrupt mind set in power. The amount of money looted by our leaders yearly is enough to take care of this if it was properly invested. The population of USA is more than our own yet their workers are paid well.

I am surprised uptil now they have not reviewed all the salary structure including min wage.

Wages now are all trash. One can't do anything tangible with the current wage
Re: 10 African Countries With The Highest Minimum Wage by Angelfrost(m): 11:54am On Mar 05
Nigeria's minimum wage is $22...!

Yet, some imbeciles say Nigerians shouldn't complain about inflation since other African nations sell at higher pump prices.

Most of the nations in that list also have good road networks, constant power supply, fantastic infrastructure, less corruption, and way less government expenditures.

Honestly, it's time for every region to have a national sit down and discuss the future of this corrupt contraption.

The tired and stale population excuse...!

What is the population of India?!! China?!! Russia?!! America?!!

What are their minimum wages?!!

In addition, what is cost of governing Nigeria compared to the others?!!

How can a nation with such low minimum wage like Nigeria have one of the most expensive governments in Africa and parts of the globe?!!

How is a country unable to pay up to $50 as minimum wage to workers have Senators earning higher than their counterparts in nations paying twice more to workers as minimum wage?!!!

The way you people cover up the failures and corruption of your leaders just makes me think or believe your brains are programmed to think sub-optimally.

But you are okay when you get news that petrol price in Nigeria,is one of the cheapest.

You are not aware that it is very senseless to compare prices without the corresponding income?

Countries with higher population than Nigeria have higher minimum wages.

The critical and applicable word here, is productivity and not population.

I'm not comfortable with this list as some key African nations with very good living wage are missing...for example, I didn't Mauritius and Botswana, which should ordinarily come before a country like Cape Verde or Eq.Guinea!

Plus, isolating the Lesotho minimum wage from South Africa's sounds like a farce...
