UTME: JAMB Pegs Cut-off Mark At 180 Across Board

By Innocent Oweh Correspondent, Abuja

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday released the cut-off mark for admission into all cadres of tertiary institutions in the country, pegging the figure at 180 across board.

Federal Government also directed the board to produce data on states that are educationally less developed with a view to easily identifying them and according high priority to them.

Minister of Education, Ruqqayatu Rufai, said these on Thursday at the headquarters of the National Universities Commission (NUC) during the first Combined Policy Committee meeting on admission to degree awarding institutions.

She urged the institutional heads to adhere strictly to guidelines, particularly on issues relating to merit, quota system, educationally less developed states and catchment areas.

“In Nigeria’s quest to build the human capital for an industrial and knowledge based economy, we must not forget the carrying capacity of our institutions as pronounced by the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

“Special attention should be given to the 60:40 science/arts ratio (for the universities and colleges of education), 70:30 technology/non technology ratio (for polytechnics and specialised institutions).

“We have met with the vice chancellors, rectors and provosts, and discussed the issue of the cut-off mark for this year’s UTME and then we agreed on 180 as cut-off mark; since it is a unified examination we agreed that it is uniformed for polytechnics, colleges of education as well as universities,” Rufai said.

Chairman, Governing Board of JAMB, Sam Ukpabi, in his remarks, argued that the UTME, a new examination system introduced by the board, has come to stay.

Many people here keep on deceiving themselves and making a fool out of themselves.
If and only if you are an igbo man or woman and you choose not to be a biafran. it is your problem,
many people are willing to join the biafra race when the time comes.
i know of many different tribes that are very serious to join the race and live in this new nation no matter what it take.
Many of you think that if you say or post your comments here that biafra will not stand a chance, i only hope that you never live to see the day BIAFRA is announce knowing fully well that biafra have gain her independence a long time ago.

I am not saying that Nigeria should go to hell but i know that i can not claim to leave in a country where there is not shame,
I choose to be counted among the most pool country in America compel to Nigeria richest state.

there is nothing Nigeria can offer me that i can not get in my father's land. my home land. my country. my nation. my desire. my will.

I AM A TRUE BIAFRAN, I WILL NEVER REGRET MY DECISION OVER NIGERIA AND BIAFRA

Even the much they have cannot be use for anything,
Nigeria is dead and gone long ago not now, the only thing Nigeria have now is trying to gather the remaining litle they have.

Fellows

What ever happened to our Youth? We have heard a few loud persons who claim they represent Nigeria’s Youth and they say that if only everyone would try to get along better, avoid corruption, would work harder, pray and fast harder, and be more patriotic, Nigeria would survive and be a better place. Yeah, right! Yes, "If"—big if, indeed. Reality is that it is not happening that way; in fact, it will never happen that way. After General Obasanjo, ex-President of their Nigeria, failed in all of the above, he went on the public pulpit to declare that Nigerians are not pious enough, not religious enough, not righteous enough, and do not pray and fast enough; therefore, the country, Nigeria, is going bad! To place this in the right context, It is the same Obasanjo who is the most hateful, the most corrupt person and most corrupt President of their Nigeria, the most wicked person, the most vain and most egotistic, and the most selfish and most chauvinistic person on the entire continent of Africa, a hypocrite without equal. Imagine: he was speaking about their Nigeria which he knows very well boasts more God-fearers, or Allah-fearers and worshippers and higher density of places of worship than anywhere else in the entire world. As if anyone is in doubt, Obasanjo only proved that the "If" of these persons remains just that; never happened, not happening, and never will. In any case, Nigerian Muslim, especially with Sharia, do not and will not get along with non-Muslim, not just the Christians living in Northern Nigeria, but anywhere at all in Nigeria, and regardless of how far the Christians do their spineless, defenseless "Lamb"-thing and bending over and turning-the-other-cheek, all in order to accommodate the aggressive and hostile Muslim. So, the loud mouths who claim to represent Nigeria’s youth are just that—loud and mouthy. Reality is what it is; their "If" is only a true regret. The facts speak for themselves: nobody is getting along in their Nigeria. Those who can (and there are many, with many more waiting in the hopes of getting into the ranks), are getting more corrupt. Those working hard are merely pissing in the wind; where majority do not work at anything of the sort at all. As usual, the typical Nigerian equates "patriotism" with their psychological denial, a psychiatric disease in which he is locked within his own sick self and mind, unable to break out and see the real world outside.

So, we ask, what ever happened to our own Youth—our Biafran Youth? Those of you who are supposed to be in Universities, how many months have you been forced out of the campus? 3 months, 6 months, maybe, 9 months? How many months have your professors and teachers been out—3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or even years? If you ever graduate, how much real university education (any useful education at all) will you have received?

If you are in Secondary School, how many days have you had lessons / been in class? How many days have your teachers been out? How many months have they not been paid, so they can’t teach you? If you consider yourself a Nigerian, then, only 1 out of 10 of you passed the WAEC this year; which is worse than last year which was also a poor result. If you consider yourself an Easterner-Nigerian, then, only half of you passed the WAEC this year, still worse than last year which itself was bad enough.

When you are not in school, or if you are not enrolled in school at all, where are you and what do you do? Any jobs? Any source of pocket money? Do you know your village, can you live in it—any activity of worth going on there? If you are in a city, are you enjoying the rewards of living in a city? Can you afford to live there, and how do you survive?

Youth, when forced to go home or loiter in the streets and on the roads, what are your family members doing? Is your father holding down a job? If he is jobless, any hope or plans for him to get a job? If he has a job, when was the last time he got paid; how many times has he been paid in the past 2 years on his job? Did your father live past the average Life Expectancy of males in Nigeria (ranked in the bottom 16 of all the countries in the world)—all of (less than) 46 years? How many decent meals do you get per day—forget "decent"—how many meals do you get daily at all? When you look past indomitable maternal love, Is your mother looking her best, healthy and content with her children, her Divine blessing, or is she pining away wondering how she will feed your family? Are your siblings faring any better than you are? Is the family safe from kidnappers? Is your home safe from robbers?

Youth, have you thought about this: if you do not have an education, your children will not have an education in their time, either? If you do not have a job, your children will not have a job either? If you cannot afford something to eat or wear, your children are condemned to having nothing to eat or wear either? That’s even assuming that you can survive long enough to get to the point and age of getting married to another poverty-stricken, struggling, hapless, haggard partner. If the only way to survive today is to steal (whether by joining the Nigerian political class, joining looters and the corrupt, by becoming church leaders, by outright robbery, by kidnapping for ransom, or by 419), then, your children can only survive in the future through crime and as criminals. Think about that!

Youth of Biafra: don’t assume that Time waits for you, that time is frozen just for your benefit because your life is suspended, in misery and chaos. No. Even as we speak, Time has pushed you, and keeps moving you, from Hopeless Youth to Useless Middle-aged to Helpless Elderly, even as another unfortunate, condemned age-group is coming to Youth to replace you. Quit acting like the time and fun you lose today can ever be re-captured: it won’t. Never.

Don’t accept this fate to which you are certainly condemned by one-Nigeria. Look around you: who else and what else is causing your misery if not for one-Nigeria? Don’t listen to anyone who tells you to work harder or pray harder or do more, to do this or that more or less, in order support and stay in one-Nigeria, or for one-Nigeria. No. No. No. Nigeria is the problem: Nigeria must go.

Rather, support Biafra actualization. Biafra is the only basis for hope for our hope-deprived Youth and the rest of our families and people. Biafra is the materialization of our liberated present, necessary for our Youth and all to first survive, and then blossom. Biafra is the promise of our bright future. Biafra is the fulfillment of that promise of spectacular future: for us; for our Youth; for the children of our Youth; for all our children and their children to come. Biafra, yes! Biafra. Biafra always.

Biafra alive! Because it is God Who makes it so

Politics / Re: Biafra Will Be The Biggest Mistake Ever. Beware! by hycent(m): 4:49pm On Oct 03, 2009
It is a pity that a man born in an igbo land will come out of his own hometown to later turn back and insult his father for giving birth to him in any way possible, many of our fore-father's died for us so that we can survive in this future that will are now living but we could not atleast say thank you my father.

BIAFRA is a nation without violent, not that BIAFRA can not go to WAR or do some other things to gain BIAFRA but what i understand ffrom BIAFRA is that biafra in creating a nation that is better if i can not use best for everyone that believe NIGERIA is not the right place to live, or survive, everytime i hear people saying that i need to leave NIGERIA to make it, these people knows that they can make it in NIGERIA but they also know that the curupt leaders will not give them the chance. no body is saying that you should leave NIGERIA but what i believe BIAFRA is saying is that BIAFRANS is tried of the ways of life of NIGERIA and they want to build their own on a good soil and rock, everyone wants a family that will be better than his fellow friend or brother but not one is saying i want my family to leave the way i have leaved.

Something i am saying is that BIAFRA is a nation that should be given a chance to show what they have in bulk for we leaving in this earth (Nigeria - Biafra).

It is not the same way someone from the right is seeing things that the person at the left will see that same thing.
After going through the History of Biafra you will see some importants things that should be carefully looked out.

HERE IS THE FIRST PAGE OF THE HISTORY OF BIAFRA, THE REST WILL BE POSTED AFTER COMMMENT HAVE BE MADE TO THIS STATEMENT.

1967 Published by the Government of the Republic of Biafra.

I. Introduction

A new nation has been born. Fourteen million people have taken their destiny into their own hands and embarked on the task of building a nation free from fear, bitterness and hate. Their sole aim is to develop their innate capabilities and rear their children in an atmosphere of peace and security. They stretch their hands of fellowship to all nations and appeal for understanding, friendship and co-operation.

We, Biafrans, opted for self-determination after a long period of heart-searching and after making desperate efforts to save the Federation of Nigeria from disintegration. More than any other people in the former Federation, Biafrans contributed their human and material resources to the cause of national unity. From 1914, when the British amalgamated Northern and Southern Nigeria, Biafrans began to leave their homeland in large numbers to settle in several places among the Fulani-Hausa in the North and the Yoruba in the West. In those areas they opened up new avenues of commerce and industry and at the same time built new homes and erected places of worship and institutions of learning. By so doing they came to acquire a real stake in the progress and well-being of ALL parts of the country. They regarded themselves as citizens of Nigeria to an extent that no other group in the country ever did.

Wherever Biafrans sojourned their industry, resourcefulness and drive marked them out from their neighbours. In the North, particularly, the distinction was enhanced by religion; for while the majority of the Fulani-Hausa population were Muslims the Biafrans were and still remain mostly Christians. In addition, the progress and dynamism of Biafrans contrasted with the tardiness and conservatism of their neighbours who were generally unable to achieve the same standards of efficiency and prosperity. The envy and animosity the Biafrans excited were manifested periodically, such as in the massacre of Biafrans by Northern Nigerians at Jos in 1945 and at Kano in 1953.

While Biafrans abroad were thrusting ahead and setting the pace for the economic development of Nigeria, those in Biafra itself were diligently exploiting the human and material resources of their homeland. Their ready acceptance of modern ideas and techniques brought them to the forefront of economic and political activities. Democratic by tradition, they championed democratic ideals and at the same time advocated the concept of a united country. They resolutely opposed the reactionary ideas of the Fulani-Hausa ruling elite which controlled the North and dominated the Federal Government. They also resisted the vicious and unscrupulous methods by which the Northerners sought to perpetuate their hold on the political strings of Nigeria. It was largely this confrontation between the forces of progress, represented by Biafrans, and those of reaction, represented by the Fulani-Hausa which culminated in the Nigerian census crisis of 1963-64, the Federal election crisis of 1964 and the Western Nigeria election crisis of 1965 which brought the military to power in January 1966.

During the massacre of 29 May 1966, which was the reaction of the Fulani-Hausa to Unification Decree No. 34 of the Supreme Military Council, Biafrans were the sole victims and there was no discrimination with regard to their individual ethnic origin. The massacre of Biafran army officers and men by their Northern "comrades-in-arms" on 29 July 1966, and of Biafran civilians later, followed the same pattern: they were killed only because they were Biafrans.

Those who survived the pogrom fled back to their homeland disillusioned and embittered. Their investments in other parts of the Federation had been destroyed and those whom they held dear had been killed or maimed. The families in Biafra who received them back shared their grief, and hardly any family in Biafra escaped the loss of a member or the return of a destitute relative needing relief. The Northern Assailants showed no sign of remorse. On the contrary they were jubilant over the expulsion of the Biafrans in their midst. The Biafrans themselves would never think of going back to expose themselves to the risk of a repeat of their previous harrowing experience. Thus the pogrom of 1966 resulted in an irreversible movement of population.

In spite of all they had suffered during earlier massacres and during the more recent pogrom, the people of Biafra sought no revenge but strove strenuously to find a peaceful solution which would keep Nigeria together. The Northerners, on the contrary, rejected every overture, ignored the implementation of agreements which had been mutually arrived at, and relied on their military occupation of Lagos and Western Nigeria to humiliate Biafrans even further.

Two of these agreements stand out clearly. As far back as 9 August 1966 representatives of the Military Governors and Lt.-Col. Gowon agreed in Lagos that, inter alia "Immediate steps should be taken to post military personnel to barracks within their respective regions of origin". It was generally recognised that tension would be reduced and Biafrans would have less fear of attending meetings elsewhere in Southern Nigeria if this measure was taken. The implementation of this agreement was pressed on numerous occasions from August 1966 until the collapse of the Federation, but was totally ignored by the Northern "conquerors". Again, after long persuasion, the military rulers of Northern Nigeria agreed to attend a conference at Aburi, Ghana, in January 1967. Far-reaching decisions aimed at restoring the Federation to normalcy were taken at this meeting. As is now well-known, the Northern military rulers at first repudiated the decisions as soon as they returned to Lagos but, following further persuasion both from within and outside Nigeria, proceeded to implement only a portion of the Aburi decisions. At the same time the Federal Government contrary to an Aburi decision stopped paying its staff serving in Biafra, and withheld the Biafran share of Federal revenues.

The protests of Biafrans against the attitude of the North were met with threats of military subjugation. The proposal that Nigerian military lenders should meet in the presence of named African heads of States was spurned. The stoppage of salaries of Biafrans in the Federal public Service and Corporation compelled the Government of Biafra to pay these salaries in addition to bearing the financial burden of rehabilitating other refugees and displaced persons. Then the Lagos Government continued to withhold the periodic payments and remittances from Federal funds due to the Government of Biafra, the Biafran Government was forced to take steps to stop the continued accumulation of debt by the Lagos Government by promulgating the Revenue Collection Edict. Thereafter, the Lagos Government mounted a blockade aimed at the economic strangulation of Biafra.

It is this calculated and systematic persecution of Biafrans in the former Federation of Nigeria that has driven us to seek justice and salvation in independence. Molested, taunted, hounded, murdered and finally driven away from other parts of Nigeria, Biafrans have been compelled to acknowledge that close association with Fulani-Hausa is fraught with disaster. We have therefore taken up the challenge to our liberty and dedicated ourselves to the struggle for our survival.

Some well-meaning observers have expressed doubts as to whether the Republic of Biafra can survive both economically and politically as an independent, sovereign state. Firstly, they hint that Biafra had been so tied to the economy of the rest of Nigeria that if the federal links were severed Biafrans would suffer a fall in their present standard of living. In the second place they have tried to emphasize that Biafra consists of a composite group of people who lack the attributes of a nation. Such views have obviously arisen from an imperfect understanding of Biafra, past and present.

It is, among other things, in order to enlighten the enquirer and reassure the waverer that this publication is being issued. In the following pages the reader will discover the real Biafra, a country which has through the ages undergone a political as well as an economic transformation resulting in the emergence of a virile and united nation that is capable of sustaining itself in the committee of nations.

THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND COMMENTS.

By the way I am a true BIAFRAN, but i need to know the history of NIGERIA against BIAFRA, post your history that prevent BIAFRA from the right of becoming one nation without some many bad things.
