The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Obono Itam, says four children allegedly stolen from their parents in Bauchi State and sold to another family in Anambra have been rescued.

The CP made this disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists at the police headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state, about the activities of the command in 2024.

During the briefing, 13 suspects involved in murder, kidnapping, and other criminal activities were paraded.

Obono also stated that the operatives arrested four suspects, including an illegal foster mother. According to him, the suspects confessed to the crime and explained the role each of them played.

Itam confirmed that one of the children had been identified, adding that efforts were underway to reunite the children with their parents.

Obono further stated that in the early hours of December 24, 2024, a joint security operation led by the Nigeria Police Force, which included the military, civil defense, and Anambra vigilante operatives, successfully dismantled a criminal camp located in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area.

According to him, the operation led to the destruction of several makeshift structures within the camp, recovery of 19 unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and significant injuries to fleeing suspects.

He explained that the operation followed credible intelligence about the criminal gang’s activities in the area, along with information obtained during the interrogation of suspects arrested in ongoing police operations across the state.

Obono also stated that police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu-Ukwu, acting on credible information, arrested one Miracle Mwakalor, 18, from Umubele Village, Awka South Local Government Area, on December 6 and recovered one AK-47 rifle and a magazine from him.

According to him, the operatives raided the gang’s den during an operation aimed at preventing a planned attack in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area.

He said that Miracle was apprehended, but his gang members escaped and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime and led the operatives to an apartment in Ubuofu, Awka, where they had hidden the recovered rifle in the roof.

Peter Mbah of Enugu State, weekend told President Bola Tinubu that the sit-at-home declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, across the South East has been brought to an end in the state, adding that they are no longer taking orders from non state actors.

The Governor disclosed this at the stakeholders meeting during President Tinubu’s official visit to Enugu State to commission projects executed by his administration.

The Governor, who was speaking on the security efforts being put in place by his administration noted that his dream for the state can be achieved when “security is guaranteed, quality education thrives, and citizens can access affordable healthcare.”

The governor outlined the steps taken to enhance public safety in the state, including ending “the illegal sit-at-home order imposed across the Southeast.”

He said, ‘We no longer observe sit-at-home in Enugu. Our people go to work every day of the week, and we no longer take orders from non-state actors.”

The governor told the President that the “courageous pronouncements you made to free up funds for development: the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the foreign exchange, and several social interventions that your government continues to provide for the people of this country.

“We are now essentially, with those funds freed, able to fully complete projects. And it’s not just physical infrastructure; social and digital infrastructure are going on,” the Governor said.

At the stakeholders meeting with South East leaders mainly from Enugu State, the President was attentive to the requests made by former Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo and Enugu State indigene Chris Ugoh and responded with a commitment to address their concerns.

While applauding the Tinubu administration for completing the Port Harcourt to Aba section of the Eastern rail line, Nebo appealed to the President to prioritise the completion of the remaining portions of the rail link.

He emphasised the rail link’s potential to boost Nigeria’s non-oil exports and economic growth.

Ugoh noted that the Anambra Basin has the potential to support power generation and industrial feedstocks.

He appealed to the Federal Government to develop this resource to benefit the southeast and other regions of the country, including the Middle Belt and the North.

Onyemauche Nnamani, the National Commissioner representing the South East in the Police Service Commission, urged the Federal Government to implement modern security strategies in the region, akin to the statewide CCTV system and patrol cars with surveillance cameras in Enugu State.

Nnamani called on the federal government to de-emphasise the mounting of checkpoints and roadblocks in the region, saying, “It is inefficient and exposes our security personnel to attacks by non-state actors.”

Responding to the request for the rail line, President Tinubu reassured the audience, saying, “It is a work in progress. I inherited some of these critical problems and am committed to solving them.”

“On the support of the gas infrastructure. Sure, gas is an alternative to petrol. There is no wasting of time than to invest more in it. We will do it together, and I am lucky I have good governors. ”

Acknowledging the presence of various dignitaries, including governors, traditional rulers, captains of industry and serving and former presiding officers of the National Officer from the South East, President Tinubu praised former Senate President Ken Nnamani for saving Nigeria’s democracy from those who wanted to derail it with the Third Term project.

Earlier at the meeting, President Tinubu praised Governor Peter Mbah for his development model and philosophy after inaugurating several projects executed by the state government.

He pledged that the federal government would continue to support Enugu and other states in their development efforts.

Among the projects inaugurated by the President are the GTC Smart Green School, New Haven/Bisalla Road, the International Conference Center, the Command-and-Control Center, and 150 patrol vehicles equipped with surveillance cameras.

The President also performed the virtual commissioning of other notable projects from the Enugu State Government House.

At the inauguration of the Command-and-Control Center, the President said investment in security will bring rapid development.

“This is a profound demonstration of what we can do together. It reassures me that more revenue going to the sub-nationals and local government is not a waste. It is for development.

“We have committed leaders like Peter Mbah taking Enugu on the path of 21st-century development, taking Enugu to greater heights, and building our tomorrow today.

President Tinubu further lauded the governor, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, for demonstrating an irrevocable commitment to human development.

“I don’t care which party you come from; you are my friend. Alex Otti of Abia State is also doing very well. It is not about the differences in languages and place of birth.

“No one of us has control of the mother tongue. God created us, and you can find yourself in Enugu, Onitsha or Lagos. We are all members of one huge family called Nigeria, but we live in different rooms in the same house.

“We must build this house to satisfy our immediate and future needs,” he said.

At the interactive session, Governor Mbah described President Tinubu as a true federalist.

He commended the Tinubu administration for establishing the South East Development Commission and liberalising the electricity sector through the Electricity Act (Amendment).

He congratulated the President on being named ThisDay Man of the Year and acknowledged his efforts to revitalise Nigeria’s growth and economic resilience.

“Your Excellency, your credential as a true federalist stands out brightly, and the legacies thereof will long earn you resounding accolades.

“In signing the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, you liberalised electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. That singular act will consistently rank as an enduring legacy.

“It is noteworthy that Enugu State was the first sub-national to which the NERC ceded regulatory oversight of the local electricity market. That reflects how swiftly we are pursuing our goals,” he said.

According to the governor, the South East Development Commission will address infrastructure and ecological challenges in the region while complementing the many development strides unfolding across the state.

Governor Mbah reiterated his vision to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion within 4 years, aiming to position the state among Nigeria’s top three states in terms of GDP.

He said this grand dream can be achieved when security is guaranteed, quality education thrives, and citizens can access affordable healthcare.

Three boys were murdered in cold blood last Saturday at a home in Nise Community, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Reports indicate that the murderer is said to have scaled the walls of the building to gain entrance into the compound to execute his plot and also left the compound unnoticed.

It is reported that the three little boys, whose ages ranged between six years and two years, were at their parents’ residence when an unidentified person or persons, though not clear at the time of this report, were found inside their father’s car parked inside the compound after they had been murdered with their mouths tied up and in a pool of blood.

It was also gathered that their father, a young man in his early thirties, is a native doctor and businessman who always locked the children up inside the compound while he left for business along with their mother but came home to serve them meals and returned to his business after locking them up.

The father, whose name is yet to be made public, was reported to have been having issues with some unconfirmed persons, but it cannot be established if the face-off led to the death of the three children.

The incident has been reported to the police in the area, but when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the report had not reached his office for comments, promising to state the position of the matter after being properly briefed.

This is image laundry by this good for nothing Peter Obi. Okwute Peter Obi the much i knw has done more bad to our Anambra state than good.

Where is the local govt. Allocation money for the past 6 years. It is only Anambra state that has no local govt. structure in d whole south east.

Peter Obi sold and thru the back bougth over Anambra onwed Premiere brewery
.

Our Anambra state university is the only university in the south-east that pays the tuition fee.

On his bid to capture Anambra state for his dying APGA party, His Excellency Gov. Peter Obi derived all means of do or die politics to ensure that APGA candidates wher declared winner of the election even in some constituencies like Idemili South state constituency wher the Returning Officer declared the election inconclusive, Peter Obi went on to foresee that the APGA candidate was given a certificate of return. Same thing happened in Aniocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia federal constituency where a re-run was ordered by the returning officer in some wards but the Resident Electoral Commissioner Prof. (Pastor) Onukagu gave speedly gave Uche Ekwunife certificate of return. And the questions are , What happened to the ordered Idemili South Re-run election and other's?, Was the re-run conducted inside Peter Obi's bedroom or inside the office of our Holy Prof. Pastor Anambra rec.?,

Anambra pple should Rise up against Peter or he wil destroy the state more.

When Dr. Chris Ngige said in his interview that the amount Peter Obi gave the Anambra REC. Will be enough to settle the Judiciary that have been on strike for the past six months. He further stated that he has concrete information that the money is about 2billion naira.

I dont know why you guys always want to bring Fashola into every discussion. The rainy season is washing away his roads and Lagos is getting submerged yet it is fashola,  fashola,  fashola at every turn. To speak of Anambra, Delta and Lagos as if these states operate from the same financial footing doesnt make sense. Lagos was the former capital of Nigeria for heavens sake. It is still the financial capital of the country with thousands of industries operating there and paying billions in taxes to the government on monthly basis.

Lagos boasts of endless structures biult by the fed government to stimulate businesses, name them;-bridges, power station, ports etc. This has led to massive concentration of people and capital in Lagos state. How then can you compare such a state that has almost limitless aveneus to make money with a state like Anambra whose infastructures are almost private sector driven? Or with Delta state whose billions come in at the end of every month from Abuja as an oil producing state?

Having said that, it must be stated that Peter Obi is a very clumsy politician.  He has failed to position his party as an alternative to PDPs misgovernance in the east. He was on the verge of liquidating the very party that brought him to power deu to promises made to him at Abuja before Okorocha came in. That shows lack of seriousness as a politician Today his partys big wigs in Anambra are the same theives that have held the state down for ages.

He biulds government lodges all over the place. Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi. There will be some in Abuja and maybe Lagos. This is a big waste of cash. Governors and other political office holders should stay in hotels when they travel and stop wasting peoples money biulding elaborate homes for themselves calling those government lodges.  You may want to call him a village governor too. He may have the best intentions but seem  unaware how to practicalize those and that is a tragedy,

I only saw a determination to biuld walkways/pavements in Kano State under kwankwaso during his first coming.

The only dividend of Democracy the Igbo got from President Tinubu was a non-renewal of Asari Dokubo's military contract which worked with Ebubeagu and the Special Police Unit, Tiger Base. This reduced insecurity in the Southeast by 70%. The remaining 20% is from criminal elements (ndi bush dey pay), cultists, and a few political actors from the Southeast with the remaining 5 to 10% coming from criminal herdsmen and kidnappers.

I was at Rockview Hotels in Owerri a few weeks ago where who is who from Owerri West had a meeting on combating herdsmen atrocities that they were willing to jettison party affiliation and government posts for the common good of their LGA. If you don't know, you don't know.
