Matth 1:21, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins" pls take note of the significance of the expression "his people". Here it is important for us to know that Christ's coming to this world and his meritorious work on the cross was for "his people", a distinct people.
Galatians 1:4, "Who gave himself for our sins that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father." "our sins" cannot be said to be referring to the sins of every man cos Paul's letter and all his letters was/were for those in the church. The evil world is not cosmos but real people who are evil, all what they stand for, their lusts et al. Just saying...
Ephesians 5:25, " Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it."
Acts 20:28, " Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood."
Why take heed? it is obvious that some people who are not part of the flock are wolves who peddle lies to deceive the flock. The passage talks about purchase of the flock with blood. The price here is the blood. If he did not purchase all men with his blood (as we have seen here), he definitely didn't die for all.
I'll be right back to continue. Ok, I'm following. ... I remember: Matthew26:28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.@Expressions this was uttered by Christ |

An2elect2: Welcome back.
Alright. But i dunno your thread and posts are not straight forward. Somewhere along the line am getting the impression that you are saying his death was by chance even though it was foreknown? it was not his plan to die and yet that was the only way sin could be conquered?
I agree with this....but this down here..no.
i take it that you believe salvation should be worked for. No? we shouldn't mind the scripture that says it is by grace? How do you go about obtaining and keeping this salvation till the end? do you mind sharing?
Christ died not to redeem us from our sins but to show us the way to redeem ourselves and even in our daily work we strive by ourselves? nothing about our strength in Christ? no power from outside ourselves in spite of our unwilling flesh?
Yes i believe we must strive towards perfection but whose power are we appealing to here?
yes this is true but am afraid the application used here might be wrong.
Without the shedding of blood can any sin be remitted? If Christ's blood did not wipe out the sins of those he died for(He died for some not all) what will? our obedience?
lol you made me ask more questions. Incisive questions I must say. The bolded caught my attention because some Christians would rather you say He died for the whole world. He came actually for the entire mankind. Why would you deviate a bit to saying He died for some? How would you convince your fellow Christians? I ask because at a point I saw in the bible where He said something about "for many"..... not for all. |

christemmbassey: with this type of post, it is very clear that you don't know why Christ came/died/resurected. I wish, I can make you undastand, but I'v stoped Nl arguments. Stay blessed. Expressions:

That's why I opened this thread because I found statements in the Bible reported as being spoken by the Son of God Himself during His sojourn on earth which is in contradistinction to the above highlighted words.
I quoted several statements of Christ as reported in the Bible which led to my questioning the accustomed doctrines and dogma, which finally led to my conclusion.
Not that I'm trying to be convincing here.
Now all you can do here is quote just a few statements of Jesus Himself (not from 'posthumous' books like the Acts) where He asserted that He came to let Himself be killed. Then we'll have something tangible to talk about. Regards. Leave out the argument okay. Do the needful @bolded |

Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One." The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine, and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!" Now there was also an inscription above Him, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS." Luke 23:32-38 What humiliation! It was well planned out. Expressions: That's an impressive answer @channelz. Learnt quite a lot.
I can recall somewhere in the Bible how they (the Sanhedrin or high council) gathered to finalize their plot against Him. The president of the high council then was the high priest of the temple in Jerusalem Caiaphas, the Co-Conspirator who played a key role in the trial and execution of Jesus Christ. Now, some members of the council disapproved of the plot (Joseph for instance), but imagine what a high priest said with his mouth: “And you do not consider that is profitable for us that one man should die instead of the nation, and not that the whole nation perish.”-Aramaic Bible. Just because Christ, while upholding the law, was breaking and correcting their man-made traditions. They felt if they allowed Him, the nation would perish.
Now about channelz explanation of Deutronomy, the laws of the land and how it was used against Christ:
This actually gave rise to the eventual assumptions which develop into a belief that Christ's mission was to come and die as you can see in the attached picture below.
You can imagine how His faithful followers and believers SHOCKED, looked upon Him hanging there, fully aware of it's implication in accordance with the laws of the land concerning one who is hanged. While some mocked ("He saved others..." ), some faithful ones actually waited for their Master to come down from the wooden cross or stake. That was the highlight of the plot; the religious leaders where invariably saying to the people:
There's your Son of God. If He truly is then let His Father show us a sign by bringing Him down..."
Since nothing of such happened, the erroneous belief (erroneous because it is not in tandem with the Words of Christ as we have seen) that this was His mission (to come and allow Himself be killed or to become a curse for us) began to spring up and spread. That was the only way to counter and shun the religious leaders and the disgrace they tried to attach to His Name.
And the religious leaders became even more worried and frustrated saying:
"He (Christ) is more dangerous dead than alive!" |

Reincarnation clarifies some Bible passages one of which is:
"Visiting the Iniquity of the Fathers upon the Children.. "-Exodus 20:5
Why would a just God punish children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for sins they did not commit but which were committed by their fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers? One hopes that no Christian would seriously think that God is capable of such grotesque injustice.
God has never and will never punish a person for the for the sins of others :
Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Deuteronomy 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
"Visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children" is thus seen, through the knowledge of reincarnation, to be in line with the concept of an absolute just God. |

Ajibam: All this verses you state here are pointing to prophecy and predestination...
Reincarnation is different from predestination. Predestination. There are questions I would have asked about predestination, but I know I would get the usual common answer: "God's ways are mysterious." But such an answer merely confirms our ignorance; it doesn't offer any help in our striving for the true recognition of God in His Love and Justice. Reincarnation, being linked with predestination, clarifies the apparent injustices surrounding it (predestination) |

gatiano: pope mixing truth with lies, anyways all is lies. there is difference between hell and fire and between heaven and hereafter. heaven and hell are a condition of life, that is why people always have had dreams of heavens or hell. they described it as a beautiful place, filled with wealth, it only signifies good life that can be experienced here now and/or hereafter without dieing. the flame is what nobody has seen, it is more scientific, every single of the atom is going to be bursting into flame for a very longtime, how long it will take to kill a person, nobody knows. but for example, if it burn for 1000 years, it will will take 3000 years to cool down.
Hereafter, it is here on earth after the wicked must have been driven into the flames, the Hereafter is what even the angels have not seen, not even Jesus. the looks of the place is only known to GOD alone. which means the flame will be burning on one part of the earth, and on the same earth will be Hereafter.
Adam and Eve (the whiteman), were not the first, perhaps not in the first a lot of people (black and the native indians and indians). others are just 6500 years old is japanese, chinese is 6300 years old, caucasian is 6100 years this year. The black people as far as we could record is 76 trillion years old. do you thing these people can beat us in anything? Hmm making sense |
Christianity Etc › Bible Accounts That Suggest Reincarnation by iamjane(op): 3:15pm On Nov 06, 2014 |
One compelling reason for a serious interest in reincarnation is that rightly understood, it holds the key to an understanding of the many apparent injustices and the misfortune that befall people.
In narrating his call to prophethood, Jeremiah stated:
"Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, 'Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; and I appointed you a prophet to the nations'" (Jeremiah 1:4-5)
This is to that pre-existence is acknowledged by the Scripture and that human beings do not come into existence only at birth.
Similarly in John 1:6- "There was a man sent from God, whose name was John"
In other words John was already living as a man in a spiritual part of life.
In the last book of the old testament, the following promise is made:
"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes" (Malachi 4:5).
Of great relevance to reincarnation is a statement by Matthew in the account of this incident:
"And if you are willing to understand what I mean, he is Elijah, the one the prophets said would come. And if ever you were willing to listen, listen now! "
The underlying fact being that, Matthew believed that John the Baptist is the reincarnation of Elijah.
Who Do Men Say That I am?
And they told him, John, others say Elijah, others say one of the prophets (Mark 8:28) . The kind of answers the disciples gave indicate an underlying belief in reincarnation.
The Man Born Blind:
"Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?" (John 9:2).
This question clearly indicate that the disciples believed, or knew, that it was possible for a baby to be born blind as a result of the baby's sin. |

I'd like to hear from the Catholic faithfuls One statement in the Pope’s speech has sent traditionalists into a fit of confusion and hysteria… “God is changing and evolving as we are, For God lives in us and in our hearts. When we spread love and kindness in the world, we touch our own divinity and recognize it. The Bible is a beautiful holy book, but like all great and ancient works, some passages are outdated. Some even call for intolerance or judgement. The time has come to see these verses as later interpolations, contrary to the message of love and truth, which otherwise radiates through scripture. In accordance with our new understanding, we will begin to ordain women as cardinals, bishops and priests. In the future, it is my hope that we will have a woman pope one day. Let no door be closed to women that is open to men!” |

One man who is out to open many old “secrets” in the Catholic church is Pope Francis. Some of the beliefs that are held in the church but contrary to the loving nature of God are now being set aside by the Pope who was recently named The Man of The Year by TIME Magazine. In his latest revelations, Pope Francis said: "Through humility, soul searching, and prayerful contemplation we have gained a new understanding of certain dogmas. The church no longer believes in a literal hell where people suffer. This doctrine is incompatible with the infinite love of God. God is not a judge but a friend and a lover of humanity. God seeks not to condemn but only to embrace. Like the fable of Adam and Eve, we see hell as a literary device. Hell is merely a metaphor for the isolated soul, which like all souls ultimately will be united in love with God." In a shocking speech that is reverberating across the world, Pope Francis declared that: " All religions are true, because they are true in the hearts of all those who believe in them. What other kind of truth is there? In the past, the church has been harsh on those it deemed morally wrong or sinful. Today, we no longer judge. Like a loving father, we never condemn our children. Our church is big enough for heterosexuals and homosexuals, for the pro-lifeand the pro-choice! For conservatives and liberals, even communists are welcome and have joined us. We all love and worship the same God." Source: www.deltanewsroom.com/?p=2827 |

For some reason other than marriage, I would like to change my name.
I would like to know from individuals who have gone through that in Nigeria, the challenges involved when it comes to documents.
I heard a guy had issues upon issues when presenting his documents and certificate bearing his former surname, to the extent that he had to return back to using his family name and would effect a change via his children.

ayoku777: If you followed the discussion, you will see that what i was trying to correct is the impression that there is no difference between magic and miracle. That since all power belongs to God, both magic and miracle are then the power of God.
I was trying to show that that impression is wrong emphatically. Because it implies that its ok for people to visit or patronize magicians, or sorcerers and witches, as long as what you visit them for is not evil or to hurt another. That magicians, sorcerers etc are also using the power of God.
That is wrong. While it is true that God gave the Devil the power he has now, that doesn't mean going to the devil or his familiar spirits for help is still using the power of God. Jesus classified such as "the power of the enemy".
Any supernatural power not channeled through the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus is not the power of God, it is the power of the enemy, and it leads to greater bondage.
So its never safe to patronize magicians, sorcerers, or diviners and soothsayers.
Now about false prophets who minister in the name of Jesus with the power of the enemy like the sons of scevas.
I gave three points on how to know miracles done by the holy spirit.
1: it will be done in the name of Jesus
2: it will glorify Christ and draw attention to Him, not to any other person, not even the person performing the miracle.
3: the fruit of the act will lead men to Christ and to Christ-likeness and His kingdom
Then if the false prophet seem to meet all this criteria (which would be very unusual and rare); in that case the "gift of discernemt of spirits" (one of the nine charismatic gifts of the Spirit) will be the solution. So it's now you remember your fourth point (gift of discernment), after one must have been led astray by your first three points Oh now you know there are more to what you think you know, you only see the vastness of this Creation from the one sided religious view. Who said anything about patronising evil here?! Without knowing it you praise evil or d.evil by elevating it. You contradict yourself. Without Power can there be magic?! Magic or any other wrong/dark(dimmed)/evil use of this Power, is inferior and as such short lived with no lasting value..... it's like going for golden-tinsel thinking it's gold. That's why it's called dark power ie, dimmed power; the dimming of the potent pure radiant Power from God. It's like polluting pure water. Who says foul water cannot be used to cook soup? Is soup a bad thing? Do I need to advise anyone not to eat soup prepared with foul water? What do you know of the concept of good? If I as a computer guru create a VIRUS and then come around to u with a solution, an ANTI VIRUS does that qualify my act as good? Ok, I won't run to a magician, let me go to a prophet instead and then alas!it's a false prophet. ..What's the difference. You talk as if the spirit of discernment is sold in the market. Probably I should come to you for that. I do not claim to know it so I can't say things like ABSOLUTELY! People need only the Truth inherent in the pure unadulterated Teachings of Jesus and adhere to It to be free. There re many things Christ would have taught us but man was not ripe for it at that time. He then promised the Spirit of Truth. I am open to knowledge and truth. .. So please don't try to confine us in your box. |

ayoku777: I gave three points, why did you quote only one. I said the act must draw attention to Christ and lead mean to Christ-likeness. Why did you omit those two points? it's like you already doubt the all embracing authority of the first point 'in my Name' Your other points, your own points...remind me of one US preacher amongst many: Harold Camping who convinced thousands of followers around the world that Rapture was coming May 21, 201. Many gave away all of their world possessions or donated them to his ministry in anticipation of the End Times. Camping died Sunday at his California home after a fall (stroke) |

Expressions: About things being done in the name of Jesus I get. But you know as always religion reduced its significance. When Christ said Ask in my Name... It could only mean that whatever you do (even by way of asking) do or ask in accordance with what I stand for-the Truth in line with the Will of my Father. Otherwise when for instance He taught us how to pray, He would have begun with: 'in the name of Jesus'. Don't get me wrong though I'm just saying because you find even armed robbers, assassins etc pray in the name of Jesus asking for their venture to be successful. You can imagine that low mentality.
In that light you may throw more light on false prophets pastors...you should know that the so called evil priests due to low patronage now operate as pastors, healing in the name of esus and 'leading' people to Christ. Mat: 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
