yrhuhfy113:You are very correct. Let me just add that many people who give this advice about marrying early before a man has found his feet financially do so from a place of the logical fallacy of survivorship bias. They tend to point to the exceptions while completely neglecting the failures (which most times make up the bulk of these cases). That it worked for Mr A does not mean that is how it always goes for everybody. Mr A's case might have had grace (or luck if you please), hard work, privilege, leverage, connection or any number of other contributory factors to his success. That is why I personally believe that everyone has his/her own race to run and it is unproductive and unwise to pressure oneself because of another person's life. Their own time and season is different from yours. Follow God's timetable for your own life. |
NewJ6322:Beyond that, go for what you will enjoy doing. Yes, making a living is important but equally important is enjoying what you will be doing for a huge chunk of your adult life (job satisfaction and a sense of fulfillment). |
This is improper. Some employers are exploitative this way. He hired you for one job, did not discuss additional work as part of the terms let alone domestic work (which should be paid employment in its own right) and is having you work in his home. I assume there is no employment letter here with agreed upon terms. This mentality is rampant among some employers. Because they are paying you they feel they have the right to overwork you and squeeze in all sorts of extra duties from you. If you speak up, the next thing you will hear is that "you should be grateful you have a job, there are thousands out there eager to take your place." A job is a contract with terms that all parties have to meet, not a favour. But this is Nigeria, anybody fit do anyhow e like and nothing go happen. |
I do not doubt that he may have good intentions and proven capability but let us not forget that those who want him there are only after selfish interests namely power rotating back to their region in the shortest time possible. Nigeria's progress be damned as long as the mantle of leadership returns to them. About his hands not 'being tied' as president, still bear in mind that he cannot go against the wishes of his party leaders. His plans and ambitions may be all well and good for Nigeria but he cannot work in isolation. If he is too progressive for them, surely they will make things difficult for him either in the legislature or right there in the Executive because party interests (or personal and sectional interests) trump Nigeria's interests (as this party has proven plainly again and again). Disclaimer: These are just my own thoughts and opinions and I am respectful of dissenting views. |
Either directly or indirectly. It's either we choose sides and contribute troops or resources, stay neutral and join in mediation, stay neutral and mind our business, be occupied with fighting off opportunistic neighbours and or insurgents who will want to make a grab for land etc. One way or another, we will have something to occupy us. Moreover, the wider economic fallout will touch us too. Of course while WW1 and WW2 were raging, there were some corners of the world (Africa inclusive) where life went on undisturbed. |
I just cannot reconcile how hurting your own people will bring you the freedom you seek. |

Here we go again. When will Nigerians learn from their past mistakes? |
NARD is going on strike as from April 1st. Both Residents and House Officers. The presidency, sorry, I mean the president, is jetting out a day before (imagine the irony - escaping a neglected health system for a well structured one in a foreign land). As per 'I cannot come and kill myself, let the Nigerian health sector collapse patapata, it doesn't concern me.' Truely Nigerians, you are OYO. |
'Feel at home, make yourself feel at home... naso visitor take spoil remote o' The Taliban started insidiously like this and were hailed for doing God's work. Now they have become a perpetual thorn in the flesh of Afghans. Kano and the rest of the North should continue egging these guys on. The monster being fed today will become neigh impossible to get rid of tomorrow. It's only a matter of time. |
