The father of Leah, the only Dapchi schoolgirl still being held by the Boko Haram terrorists, Mr. Nathan Sharibu, on Saturday, debunked reports that his daughter had been released.
Sharibu, speaking with Punch, described the purported release of Leah as an imagination.
Leah was among the 110 girls abducted by Boko Haram on February 19 in Dapchi, Yobe State.
About 104 of the girls had since returned after insurgents refused to release Leah on the ground that she refused to renounce her Christian faith.
However, reports emerged on Friday night from online platforms, quoting BBC Hausa Service that Leah had regained her freedom and was on her way to reunite with her parents.
But speaking on the development, Sharibu dismissed the rumour and urged those behind the story to stop creating confusion with fake news of Leah’s release.
He said, “Leah is not back yet, but we are praying and hoping that God will grant her freedom someday.
“I want to appeal to social media handlers to stop confusing us with fake news about Leah’s release.
“I know the traffic they generate with headlines about Leah, but such headlines should be authentic and not mere rumour.” Secretary of the abducted Dapchi schoolgirls parents’ association, Mallam Bukar Kachalla, also appealed to the government to hasten up. He described Leah’s reported release as diversionary.
He further called on the Federal Government to hasten the process of Leah’s return so that she could be reunited with her parents.

Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, was on Friday
attacked at the premises of the Anambra
State Federal High Court, Awka, for
accepting President Muhammadu Buhari’s
appointment as spokesman of his
campaign organisation for the 2019
presidential election.

Keyamo was attacked by an Anambra
businessman, Bobby Uzochukwu, who
expressed disappointment that Keyamo, a
human rights lawyer could accept an
appointment from a president known to
have violated human rights serially.

He accused him of selling out by
accepting to serve as the spokesman of
President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019
general elections.

The SAN was recently appointed the
Director, Strategic Communications for
President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2019
presidential campaigns.

Keyamo who was the counsel for a
defendant in the August 6 killings at St
Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu,
Anambra State was addressing the press
at the court complex when the
businessman verbally attacked him, calling
him unprintable names.

The situation abruptly ended the press
interview being granted by keyamo,
causing the Senior Advocate to enter his
car and leave.

But still fuming after Keyamo had left,
Uzochukwu said he would have done
worst things if the SAN had stayed back.
He said,” I know Keyamo. He’s my friend.

Nigerian Police has arrested Senator Ovie
Omo-Agege immediately after the plenary
over alleged mace theft by hoodlums that
invaded the Senate earlier today.

The lawmaker was suspended by the
Senate for 90 days last week. He, however,
attended the plenary today.

The Senate had accused him of leading
the armed men who stormed the chamber

President Muhammadu Buhari says many
Nigerian youths just want to sit down and
do nothing, banking on the notion that
Nigerian is an oil-rich nation.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Business
Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, the
president said a lot of Nigerian youths
have not been to school and they want
everything free.

“About the economy, we have a very
young population, our population is
estimated conservatively to be 180
million. This is a very conservative one,”
Buhari said.

“More than 60 percent of the population is
below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to
school and they are claiming that Nigeria
is an oil producing country, therefore, they
should sit and do nothing, and get
housing, healthcare, education free.”

The President said he has done well on
the three cardinal points of his campaign,
including economy and security.
“Recently, my minister for information was
constrained to answer a question on
people accusing this administration of
doing nothing, he said ‘let Nigerians be
reminded what position we were before
May 2015, what condition we are now, and
what we have achieved between then and
now and I think people were impressed
with the answer.

“For security, we have done quite well.
Economy, we are doing very well,
especially with agriculture; we are
providing soft loans, and guarantee is that
you have to belong to a certain locality
and you have got land, you don’t have to
go to the bank and need a physical
collateral. I think a lot is being done.”

(MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, on
Wednesday urged President Muhammadu
Buhari to without wasting much time,
reject British Prime Minister, Theresa
May’s advice on same-sex marriage.

MSSN Lagos Amir (President), Dr. Saheed
Ashafa in a statement marking the 64th
year of establishing MSSN in Nigeria, a
copy which was made available to DAILY
POST, insisted that “such a suggestion
would increase immorality and crimes in
the country”.

He urged President Buhari to consider
May’s suggestion on same-sex marriage
as “a mere freedom of expression”.
DAILY POST recalls that May had at the
Commonwealth Heads of Government
Meeting holding in the British capital
urged Nigeria and other countries to
revoke laws banning same-sex marriage.

But, Ashafa cautioned that Nigeria should
not be lured by her promise that the
United Kingdom will support any country
that legalises same-sex marriage.

He explained that such would increase
immorality and crimes in the country.
Ashafa while speaking also frowned at the
silence of the presidency on the matter,
adding that “the president’s silence is
worrisome”.

He appealed to President Buhari to
continuously reiterate the position of
Nigeria at all fora where such was
discussed.
He also cautioned that Nigeria should not
be lured by PM May’s promise that the
United Kingdom’s will support any country
that legalises same-sex marriage.

Ashafa said, “Theresa May’s call for
support of same-sex marriage is a mere
wish and also an exercise of one’s
freedom of expression.

“To us, it has no effect. We know the
position of Nigeria on same-sex, it
remains an abomination and there is no
doubt about it. It must not change. It is
one of the factors helping to reduce crimes
in Nigeria.

“Theresa and others with similar desire
only need to remember that we are an
independent nation with our own
autonomy; our freedom of thought
remains sacrosanct.

The same-sex marriage ideology is a
practice that should never happen in
Nigeria.
“Here in Nigeria, our constitution
recognises multiplicity of religion and God
as the supreme being, and as such His
forbiddens are consciously avoided.
Same-sex marriage is unlawful, and it is so held.
It is an abomination and a call to it is a call to
destruction.”
