There are certain unmistakable signs that you’re dealing with a typical Nigerian that are hard to ignore. Jumia Travel, the leading online travel agency, shares 5 unmistakable signs you’re dealing with a typical Nigerian. After a Long Period of Separation, You’re Greeted With the State of your Weight A typical Nigerian will break the ice with something like ‘you’ve added weight o!’ or ‘wow, you’re thinner now o, were you sick?’, when you see them again after a long period of separation. This is one of the major ways you’ll know you’re dealing with a typical Nigerian. They just can’t help it. They Have Two Phones This can definitely be considered the trademark of a typical Nigerian. The two phones usually consist of one smart-phone and one flip or classic mobile phone. It doesn’t matter if the smartphone is a dual-sim phone and there really isn’t a need for the other one, it’s just a necessary trademark for the typical Nigerian to have them both. Although, some argue that having two phones isn’t just to show off and it’s the current state of power in the country that makes it imperative to have a backup phone, in the event the battery of the other runs down and there is no opportunity to charge it. This is a valid argument and one of the major factors contributing to the two phone trademark of typical Nigerians. Other variations of the two phone trademark includes having one smart-phone and a blackberry smartphone. They’re Extremely Security Conscious and Watchful This is not without good reason, considering the security forces in the country isn’t exactly top-notch and the security situation in the country is also more or less a mess. Due to this fact, typical Nigerians are highly security conscious and are more inclined to be as secretive as possible with details of their private and personal life, sometimes even bordering on paranoia with how secretive they can be. There is of course the spiritual side, and the fact that it’s just not safe to be so open about your private life because of the ‘wicked souls’ that might hear about it and do all that’s within their power to work against your happiness, even going as far as dabbling in the diabolical. For these reasons and because of the many heart-wrenching stories of people that have at one point or the other been careless with their security and paid dearly for it, a typical Nigerian just can’t help but be extremely security conscious and watchful. The Need to add ‘O’ and ‘Sha’ to their Sentences These two slangs add ‘salt’ to a typical Nigerian’s lingua. The slangs are used for emphasis in most casual conversations engaged in by typical Nigerians and is not limited to class, as you can sometimes find even the wealthy casually making use of it in conversations. The two slangs can also be used to express mounting anger or irritation over an issue or subject of discussion. They Call Strangers By Familiar Names A typical Nigerian finds it easy to call a complete stranger by familiar and endearing names like ‘mummy’, ‘daddy’, ‘uncle’, ‘sister’, ‘aunty’, ‘chairman’, ‘oga’, ‘bros’, ‘dear’ etc. They do so as a sign of respect or to establish some kind of connection with the individual. Some do so because they simply don’t know the name of the person and don’t want to ask for it. General names for referring to strangers like ‘ma’, ‘madam’, ‘sir’, ‘young lady’, ‘young man’, ‘miss’, ‘mrs’, ‘mr’ etc. don’t seem to be enough for the typical Nigerian; however some argue that calling a stranger by familiar and endearing names is done because Nigerians generally have a familial culture that accords everyone with respect. DECLARATION OF AMBITION FOR NANS OYO STATE CHAIRMAN I am Omoniyi Afeez Oladimeji (p.k.a) Oxygen, a student of Ekiti State University (in affiliation with Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo). It is my desire to contest for Oyo State NANS chairman. This interest is predicated on my flair and passion to fight injustice and represent the true image of Nigerian Students in Oyo state. As a chairman of Oyo state NANS, I will represent the all interests registered to defend the genuine demands and wills of Oyo state students. This representation shall be judiciously nurtured and it will be in sincere representation of what the student community demand. God willing, as a chairman of Oyo state NANS, I shall ensure energies are geared to move the association to a more great height. NANS Oyo State under my leadership shall promote the welfare of her members. The welfare in affordable education for students, fighting against unfair policies against NANS members and ensuring proper justification is done to maintain the image and existing fair status quo. I hope to bring forth a leadership training programme for the benefit of Oyo state students. Also, organise free skill acquisition programme for NANS members. This I hope will address the after-school demands of students in sustainability and fine livelihood. If I emerge NANS Oyo State Chairman, I have a plan to insure Oyo State students with an Insurance Firm. This will of course take care of unwarranted deaths usually recorded without compensation from any angle. Many visions are in place in this aspiration. They are justified in every reasonable extent. By virtue of my little leadership experience in unionism(former Auditor General, EACOED Students’ Union 15/16, Clerk of FILGS National, serving Assistant General Secretary of this present administration of NANS led Comr Moronkola Teslim Abiola, etc), I hope I will deliver the expectations of Nigerian Students as a NANS chairman. I seek the support of senators(SUG Presidents) because they are the most important deciders in the aspiration. I seek the support of stakeholders and everyone. Thank you and God bless. Solidarity Forever!!! Omoniyi Afeez Oladimeji , Oxygen . Aspirant for NANS Oyo State Chairman http://inspireblog.com.ng/comr-omoniyi-afeez-oxygen-declares-ambition-for-nans-jcc-chairman-oyo-axis/

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday slammed the Peoples Democratic Party leaders for allegedly looting the treasury for 16 years, saying “only God can give them punishment”. Buhari spoke at the State House, Abuja, when he received the leaders of 1,000 support groups. He said, “Large scale abuse of trust, only God can give them punishment but those we can touch, we will get them prosecuted. “We have said the properties confiscated should be sold and put the money into the treasury and we will use.” The President repeated a story on how he met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Mr Godwin Emefiele) on assumption of office in 2015 and he was informed that there was no money left in the treasury. Buhari said, “I have said this for the umpteenth time and I have challenged them to prove me wrong, but in the 16 years the PDP ruled, Nigeria was getting 2.1 million times 100 (2.1 million barrels by $100 per barrel) every day, every week, but when we came on board, the price fell to between $37-$38 and hung around $40-$50. “I went to the CBN Governor and asked him for money, and he said there was no money.” Dr Mahmud Mohammed, who led the groups, told the President that they were attracted to him because of his integrity. Mohammed added, “From tomorrow we will not sleep. We will start house-to-house, shop-to-shop and market-to-market campaign to ensure your victory.” However, the PDP said the President should not be taken seriously. The party said the treasury looters Buhari was referring to now belonged to the ruling party. National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, who spoke with one of our correspondents, reminded the President of the claim by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, that “once you join the APC, your sins are forgiven”. Secondus said, “I have watched the campaign of the President. Who are those leading it? You see, we should know that this President talks without substance. “He is busy eating and dining with those he had once accused of corruption, yet he continues to sermonise as if he is leading a corruption-free government or party. “We know all his cronies and those in his cabinet that have been accused of corruption, yet he is giving them cover. The President seems not to know that Nigerians know the reports of many panels that he is sitting on. “He does not also know that corruption comes in different forms. A President that concentrates appointments to key positions on a section of the country is as guilty of corruption as the man that steals money. This is because he is spreading poverty in some other zones why he is giving what belongs to all to a clique. “In any case, Nigerians are tired of a weeping parochial President, who will only be seen briefly in election period. “Nigerians want a President that will interact with them and treat them equally; after all that is what the constitution says.” http://inspireblog.com.ng/pdp-hits-back-after-buhari-said-god-will-punish-party-leaders-over-looting

Governorship candidates of four parties in Oyo state, on Friday, engaged in a debate with views divergent on their perception of politics and the need for political experience, as against their policies and focus of governance which were similar. The debate organised by BBC News Yoruba, and held in Ibadan had in attendance candidates of National Interest Party (NIP), Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu; All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu; Action Democratic Party (ADP), Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala; African Democratic Party (ADC), Senator Olufemi Lanlehin. Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Seyi Makinde was conspicuously absent as the lectern labelled for him remained empty for the two hours duration of the programme. A contentious debate had been raised on the issue of age in politics and perceptions of some Nigerians that politics was dirty. While Lanlehin and Alao Akala argued that politics was a venture to be proud of, a mix bag of good and bad people, and needed people who were of age and experienced, Adelabu and Sarumi-Aliyu posited that age was not a factor for good governance but experience in administration even outside occupying political offices. Adelabu, particularly, bemoaned that politics overtime had not been a venture he was proud of, while the 40-year old Sarumi-Aliyu said she will surround herself with experienced persons. In education, Sarumi-Aliyu and Lanlehin emphatically expressed commitment to free primary education while Alao Akala assured of awarding scholarship to deserving students. They, however, all promised to renovate schools, give incentives to teachers and make available modern facilities to aid teaching and learning. Meanwhile, all four candidates, in unison, said they will ensure that the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) is solely owned by Oyo state, with Alao Akala stating that the ownership will be got within 100 days of his being in office. This is as they also all avowed their resolve to pay N30,000 as minimum wage. Central in the policies of the four candidates was a focus on Health, Education, Agriculture, Empowerment, Workers Welfare and Security. Speaking, Sarumi-Aliyu said she’ll reorientate thugs to shun thuggery and violence and provide employment, cut wastages and boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and partner with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to help bring the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (because) to world-class standard. On policies, Adelabu said his government will repair dispensaries and maternity centres to enhance Primary Health Care, adopt a preventive and combative approach to security, employ experts to manage because and ensure payment of salaries by 25th of every month through an increase in IGR and stopping dependence on allocation from the federation account. Alao Akala, on his agenda, said he will guarantee that pregnant women access free health care and equip all hospitals with drugs and equipment, provide employment through a focus on Agriculture, accord payment of salaries and pensions priority and have an office to attend to persons living with disabilities. For Lanlehin, his focus will include embarking on project that directly touch peoples welfare, engaging local contractors for projects, revitalising farm settlements, awarding scholarship to brilliant disabled persons and conducting local government elections as soon as he assumes office so as to have a people-driven government. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday demanded the disqualification of President Muhammadu Buhari from the 2019 presidential election. National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus made the call at the party’s rally in Enugu. He accused Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, of bringing in machineries from Niger Republic to manipulate the election. Secondus described as shameful, the incident in Kano on Thursday, during the APC presidential campaign where governors from neighbouring countries, especially Niger Republic attended the rally and openly campaigned for the president. He said such actions showed that the APC intended to import more foreign nationals into the country to influence the elections and called on INEC to disqualify the party from the elections. The chairman said a vote for the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abibakar is a vote for freedom from poverty, hunger and insecurity. “Atiku will rescue Nigerian from poverty, hunger and mass killings. The governor, David Umahi is the best governor and I know that you are going to vote for him again. “Let me warn INEC that what we witnessed yesterday is the worst that we have seen in the country where people from other countries like Niger and Chad came to influence the election in Nigeria. “By the power conferred on me as the PDP national chairman, I call on the INEC Chairman, Mr. Yakubu to disqualify Buhari from contesting the election. “We ask INEC to disqualify Buhari for bringing in machineries to influence the election. INEC better be warned that you cannot rig this election. We have already won this election. Atiku believes in the youths and women, that is why they are always trouping out massively to welcome him anywhere we have gone”, Secondus said. Earlier in a remark, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki lamented the high rate of hunger and unemployment in the country since the coming of the APC to power. He attributed the economic downturn in the country to the inexperience of the ruling government in management of the economy. “Atiku is experienced having been in the private sector, so vote for a man that can talk to anybody, bring in investors to Nigeria, eliminate hunger from the land and revitalise the economy. That man is Atiku Abubakar”, he said Source:- http://inspireblog.com.ng/2019-election-pdp-demands-buharis-disqualification

Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has mourned former President, Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari. Dogara, in a condolence message to Nigerians, stated that the former president was a true democrat and an icon of transparency. He said: “We have lost a father, man of peace, true democrat, patriot and a nationalist. He led an exemplary life of service to God and country worthy of emulation. He was a president for all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion or region. “President Shagari led Nigeria with dignity and honour and respected the independence of the legislature and judiciary in the second republic under the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN). “He was a bridge-builder and one of the major highlights of his presidency was the alliance he formed between the NPN and the Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP) in accordance with his politics of give and take.” http://tinkoloaded.com.ng/2018/12/dogara-mourns-shagari-says-nigeria-has-lost-father-true-democrat

Abuja – As police continue to lay siege to the Abuja residence of Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over the senator’s safety. The party said with the continued lockdown on the residence of Melaye by the police, the Muhammadu Buhari presidency was turning Nigeria into a police state where those opposed to President Buhari’s re-election were treated like enemies of the state. The PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, in a statement by its Director of Media & Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday, said: “The continued siege, which has been widely condemned as unwarranted and provocative, shows that the police under President Buhari has become an instrument of oppression to subjugate dissenting voices ahead of the 2019 general election.” The party called on Nigerians to note that the only sin committed by its Presidential Campaign Director of Civil Societies, Senator Melaye, was his return to the PDP and his forthright stand against the misrule of the Buhari administration, which were all well within his rights as a citizen. Part of the statement reads: “Since Senator Melaye left the APC, the Buhari administration has continued to hound and harass him, as well as the members of his family with trumped up charges, all aimed to silence and put him out of circulation ahead of the 2019 general election. “The PDP has become extremely worried about the safety of Senator Melaye and his family members under police lockdown and charges Nigerians to hold President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) responsible should any harm befall him or any member of his family. http://tinkoloaded.com.ng/2018/12/pdp-raises-the-alarm-over-dino-melayes-safety
