A woman dumped her one year and five months old baby at the Assemblies of God Church, Obudu, Cross River State last week in order to get the pastor’s attention to the plight of her family.
The woman identified as Monica dumped her son at the church on Thursday, August 4th at about 2:30pm with some clothes after the district Reverend of the church, Francis Agianpuye had given her N1,000 some days earlier.
According to CrossRiverWatch, Reverend Agianpuye said he when he discovered the child, he sent some youths to find the mother but they couldn’t find her. Rev. Agianpuye reported the matter to the Obudu division of the Nigeria Police Force before he took the boy back home to take care of him.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kwara state command, yesterday paraded 74 suspects that were arrested with 391.26 kilogramme of hard drugs from January to July this year.
Apeh Reuben who is the state NDLEA commander, said 62 of the suspects were males while 12 were females.
He disclosed that 14 of the suspects have been convicted by the state High Court, Ilorin on offences involving possession and smoking of hard drugs. Apeh said their sentences ranged from 12 months to eight years imprisonment.
“The drug situation in the state has turned to different dimension because they are very expensive. The addicts can no longer afford to buy the drug . Therefore, they engage in pilfering and armed robbery in order to meet up with the cost of maintaining their habit. This, of course, reveals that all drug users or consumers are potential armed robbers. Their inability to afford the cost of drug could make them robbers”
he said.

Suspected militants killed three soldiers and carted away arms and ammunition in an ambush in Nembe city, Nember Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, on Monday, August 8th.
The gunmen also made away with military gunboats, after they sacked the operatives of the JTF stationed at the checkpoint in the waterways of the state.
Reports have it that the militants disguised as mourners to deceive the security operatives before unleashing several gunshots on the unsuspecting officers, killing three instantly and injuring several others, including civilians. Many residents of the area are fleeing in fear of a reprisal attack by the military.

“The attack was deadly and well planned. Nobody had expected that such a thing would happen at such time when the jetties were busy with people preparing to go about their normal business activities,” a resident told Thisday.
“I am sure even the soldiers did not expect such incident to happen at that time. Some persons who were already sailing out of Nembe said they saw the gunmen but dismissed them as mourners because they were dressed in white robes”,
he said.
Joint Task Force JTF confirmed the attack, saying that gunmen believed to be militants at 10a.m , attacked 343 Artillery Regiment, a detachment of Operation Delta Safe deployed to Nembe Jetty in Bayelsa State. Acting Coordinator for the Joint Media Campaign, Centre, Lt Commander A Ahmed, said in a statement,

“During the incidence, three soldiers lost their lives. The Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, has consequently deployed reinforcement to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime. It should be noted that the attack by militants was as a result of the ongoing operations of the JTF aimed at flushing out all forms of criminality, especially pipeline vandalism destruction of illegal refinery within the region.”

Also, Bayelsa State deputy governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah, (retd), who visited the scene commiserated with the families of the slain soldiers and assured the authorities of the JTF of the state government’s support towards apprehending their killers.
Chairman, Brass Local Government Area of the state, Bello Bina, described the killing as totally unwarranted and disheartening. A statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Saint Mienpamo, said that such malicious act was only painting the state and indeed the region in bad light.

“It is wicked for anybody to attack soldiers that are risking their lives to protect us. Such attacks are only sending a wrong signal to the rest of the world because they will continue to perceive us as a violent people. Of course you and I know the implication of this. “It is very difficult to see progress in a nation that is plagued with violence. Only peaceful nations make progress. So our youths must recognise this fact and refrain from violence,”

A 35 year old man arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, has claimed that his pastor pushed him into selling of stolen vehicle.
The suspect, Olawale Olabinwonnu, working with Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Igbogbo, Ikorodu, as an administrative officer, was arrested by RRS Intelligence Team on Tuesday, August 2nd, for trying to sell a Nissan Sentra, 2015 Model, stolen at gun-point.

The original vehicle number was changed to a fake one (APP 510 DW) in order to sell it. It was recovered on Monday, August, 1st 2016 at a car park in Lekki, Lagos. The man who took the custody of the vehicle came forward to welcome before he was arrested. He assisted the police in the arrest of its marketer in Ikorodu several days later.
Olawale sensed something was wrong with the vehicle, parked out of his Ikorodu residence and office along with his family to evade arrest. He was tracked on Sunday to another church in Ikorodu where he was arrested last Sunday after church service.
The vehicle, which is owned by one of the first generation banks in the country, was reported stolen at gun point when robbers invaded an hotel in Iju-Ishaga area where the manager of the bank was lodging. The robbers were reported to have requested for the car key from the banker before making away with it along with other valuables. According to Olawale,
“The vehicle was given to me to sell by Ahmed Abbey. I met him at Dammy Jay Hotel, Ikorodu. I went there to drink and he came to my table, bought drinks for everybody. That was how I liked him… When I was going home, I told him I was going home and he gave me N2, 000. Those were moments I was struggling and I had no job… I saw Abbey later that week to explain how he could help me get some money because I had no job. This was the time he asked me if I could help his sister ,who was travelling overseas to sell her car. And, I told him that I would try… I consulted my pastor twice on the issue of helping him sell a car. First, the pastor told me to go ahead and collect the car from him and sell it. I took the car from Abbey and began to market it but after about three weeks, I couldn’t get a buyer. He took the car from me. Some weeks later, I stumbled on him with the car and he challenged me that I didn’t want to help his sister sell her car… After a while, we agreed that I will help him to look for buyer. I consulted my pastor again for him to pray about it. This time, the pastor introduced me to somebody in Lekki who has a car park at a very conspicuous place, where we can put the car for sale… It was here the car was until I learnt that the car was stolen at gun-point… Since I was arrested, I have been calling Abbey to come and explain to the police that he gave me the car to sell, but most of the time, he avoided my calls, at times, he switched off his phone… Presently, he’s no longer picking any call on that line.”
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, noted that the suspect is helping the Police with investigation, adding that efforts are on-going to arrest others. The suspect along with the vehicle has been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigations.

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested four Nigerians and a Malian in connection with illegal sales of 4,580 kilogrammes of psychotropic drugs in Kano State. The seized drugs comprising 2,592kgs of codeine cough syrups and 1,988kgs of tramadol were recovered from five secret warehouses by officers of the Kano State command.
The suspects Ikechukwu Ukwuoma was arrested with with 2,010kgs of codeine cough syrups; Nura Ibrahim, 30, caught with 886kgs of tramadol, and Zakari Muhammadi, a Malian, found with 850kgs of tramadol, Ernest Asogwa, 34, caught with 582kgs of codeine syrup and Ikenna Osuizugba, 34, found in possession of 252kgs of tramado.

Mr. Ukwuoma, 34, a suspected major distributor of Codeine cough syrups in Kano has told the anti-drug agency that he ventured into the business because of the high profit margin. He said Codeine business in the state sells fast and that he was only interested in the profit, the NDLEA said in a statement Friday, August 5th.

“A bottle of codeine in Kano is twice the cost price in the east,” said Mr. Ukwuoma, who hails from Imo State and is married with three children. I did not know how the officers discovered my warehouse where the drugs were kept. I regret my action”
xxThe NDLEA said the arrests and seizures were made following intelligence report on the illicit drug activities of the suspects.

“The abuse of psychotropic drugs like codeine cough syrups and tramadol is prevalent among young people and married women in the State,” said Hamza Umar, NDLEA Kano State Commander. “It is common to see iced bottles of codeine cough syrup instead of beverage drinks in a gathering of young people.”

Ibrahim, who hails from Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Asogwa and Osuizugba all told officials that they decided to sell the drugs because of the profit involved. xxxMuhammad Abdallah, Chairman of the NDLEA, said the agency has intensified its sensitization efforts in the state with the aim of reducing the demand and supply of the drugs.

“The NDLEA is working assiduously to boost the sensitization efforts of the State command,” said Abdallah. “We are getting more families, schools, community groups and the media involved in this enlightenment programme. This is one important way of reducing the demand and supply for both codeine cough syrup and tramadol tablet taken by youths.”

As you read, the award-winning actress is a cast member in the forthcoming movie, ‘Alter Ego ‘, which also stars Wale Ojo, Francis Ochie, Elvina Ibru among others.
On the unusual role she is set to take in the Moses Inwang-directed movie, Omotola shared on Instagram: ‘So I’m doing a shock project friends! I always strive to do projects that Move the narrative forward at different stages. Mortal inheritance, Blood sisters, Ije… We’re on to another one fam… However, with this project you will either Love me more or outrightly begin Hate me… I’m doing something I’ve never done, I’m … to be continued.‘

While many actors have played odd, unusual, or disturbed characters and excel at it, others have not.
For this project, it’ll be interesting to see a new side to Omotola, and like she said, ‘You will either love me or hate me’.
