Resources is not limited to money in the bank or revenues from the tax purse. Resources are all encompassing and it is all tied to the ability of leadership to first have a vision and then sell it to the people and they will resource it.

It is what you see where paupers build mighty edifices. Pastors in charge of congregations of modest means build cathedrals, poor peasants under Communist regimes build giant factories, industrial concerns making world dominating artifacts.

How the great President Herbert Hoover was able to build what was then one of the mightiest hydro dams in the world at the time the economy was going through the Great Depression and continued to owe the contributors for decades after (50 years it took to pay for that dam).

And many, many, many more examples of leaders round the world who were able to do great things on the back of the people that believed in their vision and so moved mountains literally for them.

I know this is very scarce in this part of the world because leadership is largely visionless and a lot more self serving. You cannot get a people to resource your vision if they see through your pretenses and smell on you the fact that their interests are not your primary concern.

All these foreign loans to build this country are largely unnecessary. There is capacity in Nigeria. I have always believed in that. People are ready to build the roads and rail lines, the schools and the hospitals, the power stations and the seaports by themselves if they see it will truly lead to greatness. But unfortunately the guise of most of the developments is no more than a money grab through contracts and commissions to friends ,cronies and associates.

That is why the people stay away. No one will condone that sort of waste and theft of his very, very personal resources.
